I've always known that I am terribly indecisive but I think that lately I've been even crazier than usual. This whole X thing is throwing my for a loop and unfortunately, you guys get to hear about it yet again...

In short, X has been an ass lately. He's been blowing me off and ignoring me and pretty much keeping me out of the loop. That's probably the part that bugs me most. You're going to stay late at work? Awesome, that means some extra bucks! But you're not going to send me a quick text and let me know about that? Then I'm going to have to sneak into your dorm room and knock on your empty room door while images of injuries scare me silly.

Okay, so I'm a little overdramatic. But I'm a clingy girl. And honestly, I just want to know where you are. Period. And then I will be completely content sitting in my dorm room watching Veronica Mars and eating too many cookies.

I guess it wouldn't be such a big deal except that this shit ALWAYS HAPPENS. He always conveniently forgets to call me, to put his phone back on ring after a class, or to charge his phone when it's dying. He also tends to forget plans and fall asleep about a half hour before a date.

AND, I am still missing a birthday present. Which he did not give to me when he did not attend my birthday party and he did not even call me on my birthday.

I got a birthday text message at 10:45pm and I am still pissed about that.

So honestly: am I crazy? To date or to dump? That is the question...

A-C-CH-E-H-I-L-M-N-O-P-Q-T-Tz-Tl-U-X-Y-Z
4. NO EXISTEN LAS LETRAS:
B-D-F-G-R-S-J-V

¿suenan igual no?

Habría escrito él: "Méjico lindo i querido''.

I have been dying for a chance to update. Now that work is finally slow, though, I don’t even

I have been dying for a chance to update. Now that work is finally slow, though, I don't even know what to write about.

I guess I've just been feeling kind of down lately. Things aren't going too well with X, so between work and events, I've been losing myself in television shows. It's like I have no desire to live my life right now. Can't I just skip to the happy part where things with X are awesome and we can get married and have children? Hell, I don't even care if it's X. I just want a solid, neverending relationship in my life.

Besides Veronica Mars, one show that I've started watching is The Secret Life of the American Teenager. And while I admit that I watch it, I actually don't even like it that much. It's like a poorly acted-out infomercial trying to persuade tweens not to have sex. Which I think is a good message, and I think that the tweens can't even sense that ABC Family is just feeding them a 1-hour dose of Health class every Tuesday night.

Anyway, besides the manipulation of tweens, I don't like it for the stereotypes. The hardcore Christian girl wears a promise ring, the slutty girl secretly wants a relationship, the main character gets impregnated by the drummer at band camp.

Too bad it doesn't really happen like that, though. Because truth be told, I was much more like the slut than the angel in high school.

During high school, I only had 3 "real" relationships. These are the ones where we officially called each other boyfriend and girlfriend, etc etc. One was a remnant from the 8th grade, which I promptly dumped a few months into high school. One only lasted about a month during the summer going into 9th grade; he dumped me (over voicemail, I think), because he hooked up with a girl when he was on vacation in Spain. And the last was O, perfection during the spring of my senior year.

In between, though, I had a great deal of "fake" relationships. About 20, actually. They ranged from one half-hour makeout session to months of "watching movies" and "studying" almost every night.

To give myself a little credit, though, I wasn't a complete slut. The majority of them ended at kissing and were completely no-strings-attached. A little bit of flirting, a couple minutes alone, and that was all. No mess. No drama. I loved it.

Because of the casualness, though, I'm not going to lie and say that each and every boy made an impact on me. Obviously some of them did, but I prided myself on being unemotional. I remember a lyric from The Starting Line that completely explained my thought process:

"It's easy to lie when you're so unemotional."

The boys were sort of a mix between my safety net and my independence. While I sort of used the boys to justify myself, I also prided myself in not needing a boy full-time. And for the vast majority of my time, I was happy.

After O, I tried to go back to my old ways but it never really stuck. I guess I grew out of my stage of random hookups before I even left for college. I had a couple of flings, but then I met X and claimed him as my own. But I think this is why, at the end, I am still hanging on to that last thread of X. Because I have no desire to throw myself back into the shark tank. I've already dated around, I'm ready to settle down.

So... are there any 20-year-old guys who are decently attractive, witty, funny, and feel the same way?

Yeah, I didn't think so.

Is it the sound of Jesus’ voice or really an incantation to raise the dead? Meanwhile, Skinner is talking with a Hollywood friend. It seems that a movie is being based on the ‘X-Files’ and Scully will be played by Tea Leoni, Mulder will be played by Garry Shandling, and Skinner will be played by Richard Gere.

Trivia: David Duchovny wrote and directed this episode as a “thank you” to the cast and crew of the show.

Mulder eats up the spotlight while Scully cringes from it.

Trivia: This episode was shot by the same cameraman from the “COPS” TV series.

What follows is trickery by the ghosts themselves.

Davis) passes away. While Mulder interrogates prisoner Luther Boggs (Brad Dourif), Boggs displays a psychic connection to Scully’s father. Mulder is skeptical and believes Boggs is just buying time.

Ingredients:

- One X server running on the machine in front of you. (Think of an X server as a virtual video monitor with thousands of input jacks and the remote applications as different video sources)
- One OpenSSH server on the system you are connecting to, that must be configured to (tunnel) forward X protocol

NOTE: If you are on the Windows platform, you can either purchase a commercial X server, or use Cygwin's excellent free X server. Again... try to imagine that the X server on the machine in front of you "virtualizes" your monitor and makes it "networkable". When you run the X server, it opens a connection on your machine listening for traffic coming from either the network, or (on *nix) shared memory. When you run an X application, it is instructed to connect to the X server so the Xserver can display it's output. (Just like plugging in a game console to one of your TV/Monitor's composite inputs)

Today we will talk about running X applications remotely using OpenSSH. Normally if you run X applications remotely, your X protocol traffic is going over your network connection out in the open. This is all well and good if you can trust the network that your X traffic is travelling on. But, what if you can't? This is where ssh and X make a pretty good team. You still run your X server on the machine in front of you like usual. But instead of instructing the remote application to connect directly to it, you use OpenSSH's X Protocol Forwarding so that all X traffic is sent through an encrypted TCP tunnel.

SSH Server Side Preparations
You will need to edit your sshd_config file which controls how your SSH server works. You would make these changes on the machine you are connecting to. First, find your sshd_config file. Typically, it's in /usr/local/etc if you compiled the OpenSSH suite yourself or if the package maintainer went with defaults. In other cases it could be in /etc/openssh or /usr/local/etc/openssh. To verify for your distribution, you can run the 'find' command:

find /usr -name sshd_config

Once you've located it, make sure you add these lines to it for TCP and X Forwarding:

AllowTcpForwarding yes
X11Forwarding yes
X11DisplayOffset 10
X11UseLocalhost yes

You will then need to restart your ssh server so that it reads the new configuration.

SSH Client Side Preparations:

A quick aside about the .ssh directory in your home directory. Not everyone is familiar with the purpose of this directory, but to simplify using OpenSSH, it's another essential tool. If you don't already have one, create a text file in ~/.ssh called 'config' and add something like this to it, and save it:

host work
hostname 192.168.1.10
User george

Now, if I type 'ssh work' it will automatically try to connect to 192.168.1.10 passing 'george' as the user name. Obviously, you will need to adjust this appropriately to your correct IP and username. Combine that with a shared key for passwordless connection, and your life with OpenSSH becomes a lot easier. Now back to the task at hand.

Testing from the workstation in front of you:
Now we can test and see if we can forward a simple X app over the ssh tunnel. Assume the existence of '~/.ssh/config' file and connection profile I create above. Also assume that the remote system has the simple X application 'xeyes' in /usr/bin:

ssh -X work "/usr/bin/xeyes"

We should now be seeing the familiar googly eyes peeking at us. All the application execution is happening remotely, but displaying in front of us and it's coming over an encrypted ssh tunnel to boot!

Add X Forwarding to Your ~/.ssh/config File:
Instead of having to type 'ssh -X work [some app]', you can instead enable X forwarding from your ~/.ssh/config profiles. For each connection profile you create, you can add:

ForwardX11 yes

This means that all you would have to do to run a remote X app is either log into a shell using that profile and type the name of the X app you want to use, or... You can create a script to run the app using ssh and make an icon for it on your Windows Quick Launch bar or Gnome Panel. A sample script in Linux would be:

#!/bin/bash

ssh work "/usr/local/bin/gimp"

Pretty simple, huh? In Windows, you can write a CMD file using about the same syntax:

C:\cygwin\usr\local\bin\ssh work -F "C:\Documents and Settings\george\.ssh\config" "/usr/local/bin/gimp"

You can argue that this is a form of "application publishing" to use a friendly term. But it's really a way of exploiting the features of X in a more secure way and without needing to open anything other than port 22 for OpenSSH. Once everything is configured, it works pretty seamlessly as well.

Compression:
This X traffic can take up a good deal of bandwidth since it is quite chatty back and forth, and I personally don't use it unless I have a fast connection (DSL 1.5M or better). In the past I used to prefer 'vnc' over ssh for most instances and these days I use Nomachine NX protocol (which I will discuss at a later date) for remote desktop access. However, there is something you can do which might help out a little in terms of speed with X if you really don't have any other options. You can compress your ssh traffic. Just add these lines to each host profile in your ~/.ssh/config file:

Compression yes
CompressionLevel 9

You can set your CompressionLevel to anything between 1 and 9 with '1' being the fastest but worst compression, and 9 being slow but better. There is a slight improvement in X application performance. This compression applies across the board to any ssh traffic for that connection profile though, so it's handy to add it to your slower connections.

Final Words:
Again, I don't pretend to know everything there is about ssh or X and I am sure there are other ways that this can be done better. If you know of any, I am hoping that some of you will have more suggestions that readers here can share. Please comment.

Great article from The Register...

Billionaire, cosmonaut and founder of the fast-growing Ubuntu Linux distro Mark Shuttleworth dreams impossible dreams.

No, not a return to the stars. He believes in something that's far harder for mortal open source engineers to achieve.

That dream? To produce a desktop more beautiful to ordinary users than legions of Apple programmers supping on the milk of chief exec Steve Jobs' alleged brilliance are capable of producing. That includes a desktop not funded by a clutter of annoying banner or Flash-based ads, but paid for by subscription-based services.

Now you're done dreaming, go home and code for the victory.

In a Tuesday evening O'Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON) keynote, Shuttleworth called on delegates to make a concerted effort not just to catch Apple but to overtake the company in the quality of the desktop experience they deliver users.

Translation by someone who chooses to remain anonymous at the Rose and Blood forums:

Fan: Which is the current state of Yoshiki?
Toshi: his health is good, there's no worries about the November live and I call him everyday

- - -

This should put an end to the rumors that Yoshiki has gone missing, since he and Toshi are apparently keeping in touch.
