Al igual que en el caso anterior de junio de este año, a los clientes sólo se les ofrecerá un 15% de descuento.

Asegurando que el precio de 158 mil pesos por un notebook Vostro 1510 era "erróneo e irrisorio", Dell informó en una declaración pública que los clientes que compraron el equipo a ese precio sólo recibirán un descuento de un 15% y que no se les entregará el computador portátil.

"El precio que apareció en la página era erróneo e irrisorio, muy inferior al precio real publicitado y ofrecido", afirma Dell, para agregar a renglón seguido que "por esta razón, Dell no procesó las solicitudes correspondientes, informando a los clientes de la situación".

No obstante, un usuario contactado por Emol, que logró comprar dicho equipo aseguró que a diferencia de lo que afirma la declaración, a él le apareció un comprobante de la transacción y luego le llegó un mail con la orden de compra por un "precio total de $ 158.000,54".

En la información oficial se destaca que el bajo precio final se debió a un "error de cálculo" que estuvo publicado "por unas cuantas horas", aún cuando la oferta estuvo disponible cerca de 11 horas.

Como medida compensatoria, la empresa "está ofreciendo a esos clientes un 15 por ciento de descuento sobre el precio actual de cualquier portátil Vostro disponible en su página web".

Esto es lo mismo que se ofreció a los clientes que en junio pasado adquirieron un notebook Inspiron 1525 a sólo 77.790 pesos, los que finalmente terminaron presentando más de 2.500 reclamos en el Sernac.

El descuento -dice la empresa- será enviado a través del correo electrónico y podrá ser utilizado solamente de forma individual para compras online.

Para finalizar, Dell solicita a los clientes que tengan dudas sobre esta situación que llamen directamente al 800-20-2044 (si el teléfono es CTC) o al 1230-020-3477 (si es Entel).

La opinión del Sernac

Consultado por Emol, Sergio Corvalán, subdirector del Servicio Nacional del Consumidor (Sernac) aseguró que la publicación de computadores a este precio "agrava y profundiza la infracción de junio pasado, porque es la tercera vez, lo que da cuenta que no es un hecho aislado".

A juicio de Corvalán, "hechos como este, que no es aislado, afectan la confianza de los consumidores y clientes con la empresa, pero lo que es más grave afecta la confianza de los clientes en el comercio electrónico".

در بیان این مسئله اولین نکته ای که مایل به بیان ان هستم اینست که شما چه نوع کاربری هستید ؟ اما قبل از تشریح ان یک نصحیت دلسوزانه دارم و ان اینکه به دنبال هر نوعی که هستید قبلا تمام مشخصه های آن را در منابع مختلف وب مورد بررسی و مقایسه قرار دهید . این از  همه چیز مهم تر و حیاتی تر است !

 در یک بیان کلی من چند دسته از کاربران را معرفی میکنم :

1. کاربران عادی که تنها هدف انها استفاده از مزایای سطحی یک لپ تاپ به عنوان یک کامپیوتر متحرک و سیار است . بیشترین کاربرد  دستگاه در این گروه  مصارف خانگی اعم از تایپ , مشاهده فایل های صوتی و تصویری , مطالعه منابع و استفاده از اینترنت و ... است
2. دسته دوم افرادی هستند که در رده حرفه ای ها قرار میگیرند . دقت کنید وازه حرفه ای کمی ابهام بر انگیز است .پس بهتر است کمی انرا باز تر کنیم . در اینجا منظور من از حرفه ای بودن دو گروه است.گروه اول برنامه نویسان و گرافیست ها هستند که نیاز دارند در گروه تجاری قرار بگیرند . این گروه نیاز دارند تا از لپ تاپ های با مشخصه های بالا استفاده کنند تا در سریع ترین حالت ممکن نتایج پردازش را ببینند . و گروه دوم کسانی هستند که من نام معتادین گیم را به انها میدهم . همان طور که میدانید game (بازی ها) از جمله نرم افزار هایی هستند که تمام توان سیستم را صرف لود و اجرا شدن خود میکنند و در دنیای امروز و با حضور بازی های دارای موتور های گرافیکی بالا کمترین نقصی در performance سیستم تمام نتایج را بهم خواهد ریخت .

البته از نظر من افرادی هم وجود دارند که تنها برای کلاس و مسائل غیر تخصصی و تنها برای ارضای نیاز خود ستایی  در بازار لپ تاپ ها حضور میابند که موضوع انها در حوزه صحبت  من نیست . در همین ابتدا توصیه میکنم نگاهی به سری XPS شرکت dell بیندازند و خود را بیش از این معطل نکنند .

اما در  خصوص دو دسته اصلی که از انها نام بردیم . با توجه به تنوع بازار مجبورم کمی با استفاده از تجربیات خودم دست به انتخاب از روی سلیقه نیز بزنم :

دسته اول که بیشترین قشر کاربران و مصرف کنندگان را شامل میشوند در 1 سال اخیر یک کمپانی معروف را در پیش روی خود دارند و ان DELL این برند مطرح امریکایی است . شرکت dell در سال 2007 پر فروش ترین لپ تاپ های خود را در این بازه ارائه نمود . این شرکت در وب سایت خود 4 گروه را معرفی نموده است . Latitude ,XPS ,Precision Mobile Workstations,Vostro

Vostro   مناسب برای این نوع کاربران است ( به قول dell مناسب برای اموری تجاری کوچک ) بنابراین در صورتی که یک کاربر خانگی هستید و برای جابجایی محتوای اطلاعات خود و امور شخصی نیاز به لپ تاپ دارید آنرا انتخاب کنید . دقت کنید صحبت من در خصوص ماهیت این سری است . اما در این گروه شما میتوانید کانفیگ بالایی چون cpu 2.5 ghz  به همراه 4 گیگ RAM هم پیدا کنید که من زیاد آنرا توصیه نمیکنم . .نتیجه اینکه خود این لپ تاپ ها نیز دارای مدل های مختلفی در رده خود هستند تا تنوع محصول رعایت شود . مثلا خود vostro 1510 دارای 4 نوع مختلف است که در cpu و ram و ... با هم تفاوت دارند . بنابراین بسته به نیاز خود یکی را انتخاب کنید.اگر میخواهید کافیگ بالا انتخاب کنید به سراغ مدل های تخصصی dell بروید مانند latitude

Latitude مناسب  برای شرکت های IT و کسانی که نیاز به یک رده بالاتر از کاربران عادی دارند . اینها افرادی هستند که نیاز به لپ تاپ های با ویزگی های کاربردی برای برنامه ها و کار های با رشد بالا تر و آینده نگری بیشتر دارند . کسانی که فکر میکنند در آینده نزدیک نیاز به لپ تاپ بهتری خواهند داشت اگر يك مهندس و طراح سيستم هستيد كه امور مختلف پردازشي و گرافيكي را همزمان انجام ميدهيد  و يا در محيط هاي كاري نويزي مانند كارخانجات هستيد سري latitude بهترين انتخاب براي شماست. در اين گروه بهترين انختاب D830 با كانفيگ 2.5ghz وRAM 4 گيگ بهترين انتخاب است .اگر كمي هم حوصله كنيد از تاريخ درج اين مقاله تا 2 هفته ديگر سري E كه بهترين نوع آن هم E6500 است وارد بازار ايران خواهد شد . اين لپ تاپ ها كه در نوع خود بي نظيرند بر اساس تكنولوژي Centrino 2  بنا نهاده شده اند و حتي باتري انها تا سقف 19 ساعت !! دوام خواهد داشت . اين براي مهندسين و آنها كه حرفه اي اند بي نظير است

XPS  ها لپ تاپ های جدید dell هستند که هم از نظر نوع تکنولوژی بکار رفته در چیپ ها و قطعات و هم در نوع طراحی برترین نوع لپ تاپ های dell هستند . این لپ تاپ ها برای مالتی مدیا و بازی طراحی شده اند اما یک نگرانی در کنار آنها وجود دارد و آن گرم شدن انهاست (اینجا را ببینید)

Precision Mobile Workstations و ها لپ تاپ های مخصوص برنامه نویسان , گرافیست های حرفه ای و چیره دست و در مجموع کسانی که میخواهند از لپ تاپ خود کار بکشند و نیاز های تخصصی تری چه در میزان تجهیزات و پورت ها و چه در   کارایی دارند . این سری گرانترین مدل های dell را دارد .

شاید نیاز نبود که از تمام سری های dell اینجا نام ببرم اما همان طور که مشخص است برای دسته اول کاربران ما لپ تاپ های سری vostro  و insprision بهترین انتخاب هستند .

توجه داشته باشید که برنامه گرافیکی در ویندوز ویستا حداقل نیاز به 1 گیگ ram دارند و توصیه من cpu  بالای 1.8  ان هم از نوع دو هسته ای (خصوصا برای مصرف کم برق و سرعت بالا ) است . توصیه بهتر من ram بالای 2 گیگ و cpu 2.2 گیگا هرتز است  که چیزی در حدود 1,200 هزار تومان هزینه در بر خواهد داشت .

توجه داشته باشد که لپ تاپ های مناسب قشر small business که در حال صحبت در مورد انها هستیم از رنج 700 هزار تومان تا 1,400 هزار تومان دارای مدل های مختلف هستند .  البته ذکر این نکته هم بد نیست که لپ تاپ های dell کمی بی  ریخت تر از سایرین هستند . مخصوصا در مقایسه با HP  و سونی.اما اگر تمام شرایط را در نظر بگیریم من همچنان dell را در این گروه برتر میدانم .

در این رنج هزینه و امکانات لپ تاپ های Hp نیز مدل های مناسبی را دارند .اسم این لپ تاپ ها در hp , Home Office است البته در hp دقت کنید که از cpu مدل AMD پرهیز کنید که مصرف بالایی در برق و باتری دارند . البته در صورتی که cpu دوهسته ای AMD داشته باشند موضوع کمی کم رنگ تر میشود . نوع طراحی مدل های hp دلنشین تر بوده اما اگر در این بین مدلی را انتخاب نمودید حتما انرا با مدل مشابه در dell مورد مقایسه قرار دهید . به عنوان مثال اگر cpu شما 2.2 است و 2 گیگ  ram  دارید حتما با مدل vostro مقایسه ای در قیمت و سایر مشخصات اعم از وزن , هارد , کارت گرافیکی و حجم حافظه ان , نوع صفحه نمایش ( که توصیه میکنم زیر 15 اینچ نباشد و wide screen  نیز باشد ) امکانات بلوتوث و وایر لس داشته باشید . در لپ تاپ هاي HP متاسفانه در ايران من از سري Compaq مدل هاي ايده الي مشاهده نميكنم . در حالي كه در امريكا و اروپا اين سري در كنار Pavilion ها كه مخصوص entertainment طراحي شده اند قرار دارند و حرفه اي هاي زيادي انرا انتخاب ميكنند . در ايران سري pavilion  آن هم با كيفيت نه چندان مرغوب و ساخت چين ارائه ميشود كه متاسفانه گارانتي معتبري نيز پشت ان قرار ندارد . اگر ميخواهيد يك انتخاب برتر و نسبتا گران قيمت از اين محصول داشته باشيد در حال حاضر DV7 1070 كه 17" است را پيشنهاد ميكنم . در هر صورت HP در ايران بسيار ضعيف پشتيباني ميشود .

در این رنج از شرکت سونی نیز در سری N مدل های مشابهی را مشاهده خواهید نمود که من با توجه به مشاهده یک نمونه آنها از توصیه و اصرار بیشتر اجتناب میکنم .  لپ تاپ های سونی در مجموع LCD کاملا متفاوتی دارند . ترکیب رنگ این لپ تاپ ها اغلب برای کاربران ملموس نیست و اشباع متفاوتی دارد .قیمت لپ تاپ های سونی همیشه بالاتر از موارد مشابه در سایر برند ها است .صحبت در زمینه سونی و توشیبا را به مقاله بعدی موکول میکنم

بروز رسانی ( چند نکته مهم ) ولی ساده ):

1. اگر قرار بر این است که در ماه جاری و پس از ان خرید کنید از cpu هایCentrino 2 انتخاب کنید . مگر اینکه مشکل مالی داشته باشید .
2. در خرید از گارانتی معتبر استفاده کنید . نمونه این گارانتی در dell زیگورات است
3. در هنگام خرید لپ تاپ کاملا نیاز خود و نوع نرم افزار های مورد استفاده خود را در نظر بگیرید نه برتری محصول . که در اینصورت توسط فروشندگان لحظه به لحظه به سوی لپ تاپ های گرانقیمت هدایت خواهید شد .
4. اگر اهل رفت و آمد زیاد هستید و در ترافیک مجبورید لپ تاپ را بدست بگیرید حتما به پورتابل بودن لپ تاپ اهمیت دهید و سایز کوچک انتخاب کنید و سعی کنید کیف خود را از نوع کول پشتی انتخاب نمایید .
5. به blue-Ray بودن لپ تاپ در حد وسع مالی خود اهمیت دهید . در حال حاضر ضرورت جدی ای برای آن وجود ندارد .
6. اگر مهندسی اید و واقعا همزمان از نرم افزار های سنگین مانند auto cad ,.net 2005 یا 2008 ,sql server ,photoshopو... همزمان استفاده کنید حتما به میزان رم و هرتز cpuدقت کنید که بالا باشد . اگر کمی هم مسئله مالی تا حد 2 میلیون را در نظر نگیریمFSB 1066 را از دست ندهید !

Now, Vostro laptops may be customized considerably prior to order, so the hardware specs vary. Mine is a Intel Core2 Duo T9300 @ 2.50GHz (6MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB), 4Gb RAM box, probably near the top of the range. For WiFi, it's got the Dell 1505 miniPCI card (that's probably a Broadcom 4328, capable for 802.11n) and for Bluetooth the standard Dell Wireless 360 Bluetooth Module. It's got a 13.3 inch WXGA screen and a 128Mb NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS (64 bit) video card.

Installing Debian Lenny 64-bit (amd64)

For the record, my first attempts at installing Linux on this box were very frustrating, as both Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 64-bit versions wouldn't correctly recognise the Ethernet card (Realtek 8168) - which is the last thing I'd expect not to work. Same thing happened with 64-bit Debian Sarge. I was getting frustrated by the time I tried 64-bit Debian Lenny, but things suddenly worked out of the box and installation was a breeze (using the netinst CD).

I decided to go for the easy option and install Windows drivers for the WiFi card through ndiswrapper. The process is relatively straightforward:

• Get and install ndiswrapper from http://ndiswrapper.sourceforge.net/
• Get the drivers from http://ftp.us.dell.com/network/Dell_multi-device_A17_R174291.exe (Dell 1505 miniPCI WiFi card)
• Use the command unzip Dell_multi-device_A17_R174291.exe to extract files and cd to the directory that contains bcmwl5.inf
• As root, execute the command ndiswrapper -i bcmwl5.inf

Well, all you need to do (as root) is rmmod ssb ; rmmod ndiswrapper ; modprobe ndiswrapper ; modprobe ssb

You should now have a wlan0 interface to configure for WiFi connections (you might want also want to install wifi-radar). The rmmod ssb etc. stuff needs to happen every time the system boots. I have written a simple initialization script that does this.

Now, I thought I was having a Bluetooth problem, until I noticed I had switched off WiFi and Bluetooth using the little switch at the right side of the laptop, next to the DVD drive slot. As it happens, Bluetooth worked out of the box, but please have a look at this if you have Vista pre-installed: http://onemansjourneyintolinux.blogspot.com/2007/10/enabling-bluetooth.html

I had opted for Windows XP pre-installed with Vista installation media, so I didn't experience any problems. In fact, I routinely use Bluetooth to connect to my 3skypephone mobile and use it as a 3G modem. Please have a look at this, if you are interested.

I have also installed NVIDIA drivers for the video card (here's one of many tutorials) and Compiz-Fusion, which looks quite nice! Here's a brief video:

Screen capture (with recordmydesktop) was a bit flickery, sorry, but I was stressing the machine: I was using loads of Compiz-Fusion eye-candy and installing Vista as a virtual machine through VirtualBox at the same time.

Suspend and Hibernate work out-of-the-box. All-in-all, this laptop gives me everything I need for heavy development work - power management, connectivity, performance (and eye candy to impress co-workers). I don't know if the fingerprint scanner works, I haven't even thought about using it yet.

My only real complaint up to now is audio :-( This is an interesting story, actually, because I had sound when I first installed Lenny about a month ago (well, without headphone jack sense) and then I went for a kernel update, which broke sound! The sound device now doesn't even show up in the operating system, so it's no use recompiling ALSA (which I have done, just in case). Now, Lenny has not been officially branded as a "stable" release yet, this is supposed to happen in 1-2 months, so here's hoping one of these days I do a system update and suddenly everything works (again). But, as I said earlier, I am using this laptop as a development box, so lack of sound doesn't really affect me. It'd be nice, however, to be able to listen to some mp3s while at work, which I do through my n800 (as a quick fix).

El jueves anterior me encontraba sumido en la lectura de un texto fabuloso, Mundo Espejo (Planeta, 2004), y recibí la llamada que había llegado este juguete, esta herramienta, en la cual escribo justo en este instante. Terminé de leer el capítulo en el que me encontraba (Cayce Pollard había encontrado el dominio de la realizadora del metraje: armaz.ru), me paré de la cama, decididamente me vestí y puse música en mis oídos. Para mi sorpresa, ante la aleatoriedad del iPod, sonó un álbum de los Beatles que poco había explorado: Beatles for Sale. Un LP prensado en el 1964 el cual tuvo un amplio éxito comercial en el Reino Unido. A medida que me dirigía hacia la puerta del lugar donde vivo, sonaba No reply el primer corte del trabajo, un tema armónico, con vocales clásicas de la primera época de la banda, con brincos de fuerte moción entre el coro y el verso. No soy un experto en la banda así que las voces no las distinguí, Lennon o McCartney, pero la identidad del grupo no me eludió. Ante mi desconcierto de la canción anónima, miré la pantalla del

reproductor y vi el arte de la carátula: una simple foto de los integrantes, del pecho a arriba, vestidos de invierno, mirando seriamente a la cámara con sus cortes del pelo más reconocidos. La parte superior, un fondo miel desenfocado, y en la parte inferior una mancha de fuera de foco de color verde a la izquierda y una de color naranja a la derecha.

El viaje a la casa de mí amigo, quien era el receptor del correo enviado por la compañía manufacturadora del computador, estuvo lleno de más canciones de este trabajo I’m a loser, Baby’s in black, Rock and roll music; el conocedor de los Beatles se dará cuenta que el álbum sonaba en el orden que fue prensado. La emoción de recibir el esperado juguete, mesclada con la música de artistas de hace más de cuatro décadas, me generó nostalgia y pero ánimo también. La llegada fue bañada por la melodía de I’ll follow the sun. Pero allí los músicos de sesentas dejaron de tocar en mis oídos casi tan abruptamente como dejaron su carrera musical como banda en el setenta. Las cajas estaban allí, exageradamente grandes, pero llenas de tecnología esperando a ser utilizadas. En primer lugar la caja pequeña, teclado y mouse Bluetooth, elegantemente negros, brillantes y con el característico olor a nuevo. El teclado no me convenció inicialmente, Alberto puede dar testimonio de esto, pero ahora que lo utilizo en mi vida diaria se ha ganada un espacio querido bajo mis dedos. Por su parte el mouse flechó ergonómicamente mi mano, listo para apuntar y darle clic a todo lo que pudiera: abrir un programa, señalar texto, ir a un enlace en línea, disparar mi arma de portales o mi lanzallamas.

Pero el otro embalaje esperaba, tranquilo, marrón y sellado. Los destellos del flash de la cámara que documentaba esta adquisición fueron los primeros en tocar la superficie negra cromada externa del laptop. Estaba todo allí, oscuro macizo, pequeño, un poco pesado, me hizo pensar en los viejos Thinkpads de IBM.

Abrirlo fue sentir la propiedad de un objeto que se ansía de nuevo, que además de necesitarlo para trabajar en él, también es disfrutado en otros momentos en los cuales la actualidad se hace presente al leer noticias en línea, o momentos en el cual el mundo se desdobla y es remplazado por las facilidades industriales de Aperture Science o la tenebrosa y mágica Undercity. La experiencia de trabajar en él Mostro (una forma de llamar afectuosamente la máquina) fue suave y sin dificultades. Sus contenidos permitieron correr sin problema el OS el cual venía pre-instalado y además permitió montar MacOS X 10.5 (Leopard) desde un HD externo con problemas, los cuales según leo y me cuentan, pueden ser no tan difíciles de arreglar. Es vergonzante saberse movido por de una manera casi infantil por un objeto material que no es más que un puente de paso en la vida diaria, pero aún así la emoción era incontenible.

Meticulosamente cada parte fue empacada en una maleta para el frío y húmedo tránsito de casi media noche, periféricos y computador tratados delicadamente para mantenerlos en estado de novedad sin precedentes. Tras la despedida de la casa de mi amigo, el pulgar de mi mano derecha pulsó el botón de reproducir y terminó el tema que antes había quedado en punta. Inmediatamente después sonó Eight days a week la canción más familiar del trabajo, la única familiar para mí, el ritmo pegajoso y veloz, las palmas en el coro, los tonos altos de las voces halaron los músculos de mi cara y una sonrisa apareció, satisfecha y emocionada por el nuevo comienzo con este gadget que hoy me acompaña. Y ahora, casi una semana después termino de redactar este corto relato que hace el intento de recrear eventos que poco importan, pero que en ese instante era el principio de una felicidad inconmensurable.

Basically this works for all Vista-based 32/64bit machine, and supposedly all ranges of Dell laptops [Update -- This will not work for XPS users as hardware limitation is imposed 2:25 PM 8/27/2008]. For others I'm not sure. First of all, I hereby express that this is according to the sites I found, and tried it myself. Try this at your own risk. All legal actions have been expressively disclaimed. You have been warned.

Now, let's proceed.

We all know that Sigmatel's driver in Vista provided either by Dell or if you download it somewhere of the internets, they disabled LineOut, StereoMix, and DigitalMic (for mine). According to what I came across, it's due to an agreement made by Microsoft and the RIAA (curse copyright).

So, like hell if they would appear in your recording devices in Windows Vista's mixer even if you select "Show Disabled Devices" or "Show Disconnected Devices".

Right now, please make sure you have the default installer for Sigmatel's driver from Dell, just in case if you screw up during the process.

Next, download this driver from Dell -- Click Here and save it to your desktop. Or where ever you want it to be.

Then, right click on the installer, choose Properties. Well I have my UAC disabled so for users with UAC on, you might have to allow access or press OK.

Navigate to the compatibility tab. You should see a list of OS-es at the dropdown menu. Tick the "run this program in compatibility mode" -> Choose Windows XP (SP2), press Apply, and OK.

Now, double click on it, and it shall load. Install it, and then voila, you're done. I don't even have to restart to see the effects. Well for some users it's worth a try to restart if you still cannot see it.

After you installed it, go back to your volume mixer, choose recording tab, check the Recording Tab. If you ticked "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices", you should be able to see the Stereo Mix shown elegantly inside. Now right click on it, and enable it.

Enjoy.

With the introduction of Centrino 2, most manufactureres are gearing up to introduce new models with the new processors. Not to be left behind, Dell introduced Vostro 2510. It's a Business Notebook with an emphasis to look like a non-business type notebook. Basically it's not like a boxy business notebook. The specs are as follows :

Dell provided a list of its notebooks affected by a chronic graphics chip flaw as well as a firmware fix that should reduce the risk of the problem. The company is the first known PC vendor to do so and says that its new updates modify the fan behavior on each of the notebooks to make sure they remain cooler than normal and thus prevent the heat problems that trigger the failures.

The sheet reveals systems that are largely using NVIDIA's GeForce 8400M and related video chipsets. Most are business systems and include the 13-inch through 17-inch Vostro business notebooks as well as the Latitude D630/D630c and Precision M2300 workstation. Three home systems are affected and include both the XPS M1330 and M1530 gaming notebooks in addition to the 14-inch Inspiron 1420.

Dell warns that the fix isn't guaranteed to prevent a breakdown and that anyone already experiencing signs of the problem, including patterns and other artifacts on the screen as well as an outright video failure, has to be taken care of under Dell's normal support program.

It's unknown when other notebook manufacturers will follow suit.

Por default, el sistema de audio que utiliza Ubuntu es "alsa", su configuración se accede desde "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base". Desde que instalé Ubuntu, no pude hacer funcionar correctamente el sonido, me sucedía que las aplicaciones que "tomaban" el sonido, (por ejemplo, Rhythmbox o Amarok), no dejaban que otra aplicación lo usara luego (por ejemplo, Firefox para ver videos en youtube).

Solución

God bless google, es cuestión de saber que buscar, parece que "ubuntu sound Two applications can't play sound at the same time hardy" funcionó bastante bien.

A workaround might be to change your audio output to Pulseaudio. It handles mixing differently so It might be worth a try.

You can change the output in "Sound Preference" / devices tab (simply choose PulseAudio Sound server for what is needed)

La solución consiste en cambiar el motor de audio por pulseaudio.

sudo apt-get install pulseaudio

Luego ingresamos a "System -> Preferences -> Sound" y elegimos "PulseAudio Sound Server" como opción para todos los parámetros:

Ahora veremos un nuevo ícono en nuestra barra, el cual nos permitirá acceder a la configuración de PulseAudio.

PulseAudio es una opción mucho mas potente que alsa, nos permite tener un "servidor" de audio, nos permite controlar el volumen por aplicación!!

Si algún día investigo un poco más y le saco el jugo un poco más a esta aplicación, lo estaré comentando por acá!

I mentioned in my Windows Live Space blog that I bought a new laptop - Dell Vostro 1310. It's really powerful and lovely. All black so hopefully the palm areas don't go dark grey like the silver Inspirons do after long term use.

The top of the laptop is glossy and easily scratched. In fact by now there are already quite a fair bit of scratches which I have no idea of how they came about, perhaps by the zipper when taking it in and out of my bag. So as a solution to protect my laptop from further scratches, I found this online.

It's a removable laptop cover sticker and it's sooo pretty! It's about 19USD including shipping cost. It only accepts Paypal which I don't have and have heard of many problems about it when it involves Malaysia. However, based on http://www.thepaypalblog.com/weblog/2007/09/paypal-introduc.html I think Paypal now works in Malaysia. Hopefully it's true and I will be able to redraw money out of the account later on :D

Could this be the beautiful answer to my laptop surface problem?

Buyers of the low-priced Vostro line of desktops and notebooks will pay $20 to $50 more for Windows XP Professional installed as a "downgrade" from Windows Vista Business or Vista Ultimate than they would for Vista only.

To meet Microsoft Corp.'s June 30 end-of-availability deadline, Dell will stop pre-installing most versions of the seven-year-old operating system after tomorrow. However, it will still be able to ship PCs with XP by taking advantage of the downgrade rights built into Vista Business and Vista Ultimate. Downgrading lets Dell install Windows XP Professional in lieu of Vista, although the newer operating system is still shipped with the machine so that buyers can, if or when they want, transition from XP to Vista. El portátil que poseo, tiene como primera unidad de inicio el CD, y por tanto con meter el CD en la unidad, en unos instantes muestra una lista de idiomas, con las flechas elegimos nuestro idioma preferido (en mi caso, Castellano), y confirmamos la selección dando a enter. Luego volvemos a dar enter, teniendo seleccionado por defecto "Probar Ubuntu sin modificar el equipo".

Ubuntu muestra la ventana de carga, y en un rato, después de mostrar la ventana de progreso, nos mostrara el escritorio.

Lo primero que haremos, será iniciar el instalador, realizando un doble click sobre el icono.

Esta acción, iniciara el instalador, mostrando un mensaje de bienvenida y la selección del idioma, por defecto el escogido a la hora de iniciar, una vez realizada nuestra elección, damos con el botón sobre "Adelante".

En la siguiente pantalla, nos solicita nuestra localización, por defecto, usara la del idioma.

Realizamos click sobre "Adelante".

En esta pantalla nos pregunta sobre nuestro teclado. Salvo que tengamos el teclado en otro idioma o distribución, no tocaremos nada, ya que las teclas multimedia no van por este camino, en caso de necesidad se puede modificar a posteriori.

Ahora elegiremos el modo de particionado, en mi caso solo explicare el manual.

Pulsando sobre la línea de "Free space", pulsamos el botón de "new partition" , acto seguido se nos muestra el siguiente formulario.

Como comente antes, voy a dedicar 100 GB a cada SO, elegimos partición primaria, al principio de la partición, de tipo Ext3, y como punto de montaje, elegimos "/", y aceptamos la configuración. Comento que se pueden realizar diferentes particiones con puntos de montaje diferente, pero si, apreciado lector, sabe sobre esta posibilidad, posiblemente no debería estar leyendo esta guía.

Realizamos lo mismo para la partición de intercambio, en este caso de 1000 - 2000 MB, y en utilizar como, escogemos "área de intercambio".

Obteniendo esto como resultado, damos al botón "Adelante".

La siguiente ventana nos solicita nuestra información de usuario y de equipo. Aquí escoged lo que mas os guste, comentar en este punto, que la contraseña que deis a este usuario será la misma que la del superusuario. Una vez terminado dais a siguiente.

En esta ventana se nos muestra el asistente de importación (desde perfil de Windows), en mi caso, no tengo nada, así que no voy a importar nada. En particular, no suelo importar, pero es gusto personal, esta opción puede ser interesante para alguno de vosotros.

Después de dar "Adelante" en el paso previo, se nos muestra un resumen de la instalación. Una vez visto que todo esta a nuestro agrado, damos al botón de "Instalar", y el proceso de instalación comenzara. A partir de este momento ya solo nos queda esperar (tampoco mucho, depende del equipo).

En este punto, cabe decir que yo estaba conectado a Internet, de forma que durante la instalación se baja parte de los paquetes de internet (si mal no me acuerdo, son parte de los de idioma). Para conectarte a internet, si se hace mediante conexión cableada y con servidor DHCP (suele ser siempre), no habrá que hacer nada. En caso de conectarse mediante wifi, y si la tarjeta esta soportada (para este portátil, si), haremos click sobre el icono de la parte superior derecha con dos ordenadores superpuestos, a la izquierda del icono del altavoz, y se nos mostrara un menú despegable con las redes encontradas, elegimos la nuestra, introducimos la contraseña y ya estamos conectados, si nos aburrimos podemos navegar por internet mientras esperamos la instalación (y pongo yo esto al final, pero que mala leche).

Una vez terminado el proceso, podremos continuar desde el Live-CD o reiniciar para usar el nuestro, como queráis, pero la instalación ya ha finalizado. ¡¡¡A disfrutar!!!

Pero, ¿Que calza?

I own a couple of ISO keyboards. I bought them on eBay in early 2006 because they were the cheapest USB keyboards I could find at the time. I can't really type on them, though, because my left pinky consistently hits the intervening key when it is hunting for the Shift key. (My right pinky also has some trouble with Return, but not to the same extent.)

The image to the right shows an ISO keyboard on top and an ANSI keyboard on the bottom. The ISO model is a Silicon Graphics SK-2502U. The ANSI model is an Inland "Windows 107-Key USB Keyboard" (which, at $4.99, just may be the cheapest keyboard for Mac Mini). Note the width of the left Shift keys and the relative location of the Z keys.

Now take a look at the European Dell Vostro 1310 keyboard shown below. Dell has inadvertently created a hybrid ANSI/ISO layout. This is no good because they have shifted all the letters on the bottom row one slot rightward from where a touch-typist would expect them to be!

The Z should be below A and S (in both ANSI and ISO) but on this laptop the Z is below S and D. Oops.

Dell admits its blunder and will provide replacement keyboards.

The Vostro keyboard error has received a lot of press on the web, but to my knowledge noone has mentioned the ANSI vs. ISO issue. It would seem to explain how this astounding error could have been made when the North American Vostro keyboard was adapted for European release.

Parece que DELL ahora es tema de conversación pero por el desafortunado diseño de teclado de portátiles Vostro 1310 y 1510, el inconveniente se encuentra en la posición de la tecla "Z", que a diferencia del sistema QWERTY fué desplazada una posición hacia la derecha, colocándola debajo de la "S" y la "D".

"¿Luce normal verdad?, mira tu teclado..." son parte de los comentarios que jakegordon un usuario de flickr publico junto con las fotos de su nueva Vostro 1310, de esta forma fué como los clientes afectados encontraron eco ante la dificultad de escribir sin tener que estar viendo su teclado.

Dell por supuesto después de recibir una gran cantidad de llamadas de sus clientes no tardo en ofrecer un comunicado informando sobre el "ERROR" cometido y ofreciendo brindar una solución a sus clientes, menos mal, porque si tuviéramos que experimentar el tener que adaptarnos a un nuevo sistema de escritura sin tener que echar un vistazo al teclado vaya que nos llevaría mucho tiempo y haría perder mucho dinero.....

Las computadoras no se equivocan nunca, pero los diseñadores si, son humanos .... y bueno aprovechando el tema de cambios en lo convencional... el otro día escuche una nota sobre una forma de comunicación que quizá muchos ya usamos ahora en el chat  y resulta que los mensajes de texto (SMS) estan volviéndose una forma de comunicación, así es, ahora no sólo encontramos ausencia de H, de acentos ortográficos y contracciones de palabras, actualmente el número de personas que utilizan esta comunicación son en su mayoría jóvenes menores de 25 años que están convirtiendo esta forma de comunicación en un lenguaje habitual, a estas personas ya se les denomina "chaters" (Adictos al XAT).

I blew away the Windows XP and Dell Media Direct partition, but then I decided I wanted to play
with Dell Media Direct.
Sadly Dell Media Direct requires Windows XP to be installed.

So I booted with the Dell Media Direct disc. It gave me the option of using all the space on the harddisk or specify a size of the c: drive. I used the "use entire disk" option.
When the Dell Media Direct finished its process, it requested the XP install disc.
I ejected the Dell Media Direct disc and inserted the XP install disc and pressed enter.
After the looooong XP install was finished, I put the Dell Media Disc back in so it can finish installing.

After the install I shutdown the machine and pressed the "Home" button and Dell Direct Media did its first time config and all was set. I exited out of Dell Direct Media and booted into Windows.

I installed Partition Magic (I was too lazy to download a Knoppix or Gnoppix disc image)
I shrunk the c: drive to a mere 20 GigaBytes. I rebooted and upon reboot Partition Magic did the drive shrink operation. After Partition Magic finished , I booted into Windows XP and all seemed well. I shutdown the machine and pressed the "Home" button and Dell media Direct worked.

I turned on the laptop and pressed 'F2" to get into the BIOS (this gave me time to insert the Ubuntu CD). I exited out of the BIOS and the machine booted with the Ubuntu Studio CD.

Network:
The installer did not detect my Intel Wireless Network card, so I connected the machine via ethernet to my network. It grabbed an IP off of my DHCP server and it procegoogeded.

Disk Partition:
This is my partition scheme:

• /dev/sda1 FAT16 47 MB for Dell Utility
• /dev/sda2 NTFS 20 GB for Windows XP
• /dev/sda4 EXT3 100 MB for /boot for Ubuntu Studio
• /dev/sda3 extended
• /dev/sda7 LVM 60 GB for Ubuntu Studio
• /dev/sda5 FAT32 for Dell Media Direct (I suspect)
• /dev/sda6 NTFS for Shared Data (the rest of the space of the drive)

Logical Volumes:

I am using logical volumes to I can move space around as needed.

The install went well and these are the minor issues I faced after installing:

NVIDIA Card:
By Default Ubuntu uses the opensource driver.
I enabled the NVidia Driver by going to:
System Menu then -->Administration-->Restricted Drivers Manager
I enabled the NVidia Driver it did its thing and I rebooted and all was well.

Sound Issue:
Sound was not working so I had to do :

sudo apt-get install linux-backports-modules-rt

I rebooted and sound worked

Wireless Network:
The Wireless Device was recognized from first boot.
I installed kwlan and was able to setup wireless networking.
Good thing I chose the Intel Wireless Device.

Extra Software:
I installed extra software by first installing AutoMatix

Grundsätzlich läuft alles so wie es soll. Die üblichen Verdächtigen Suspend Modus, Akkupflege, WLAN und Bluetooth liefen auf anhieb.

2 Dinge gehen allerdings nicht. Zum einen die Webcam, damit kann ich aber leben. Und auf der anderen Seite werden von den 4GB RAM nur 3,4GB genutzt.

Leider hat Ubuntu keinen PAE bzw. Highmem Kernel in seinen Repositorys (abgesehn vom Xen Kernel). Zum Vergleich, bei RedHat basierenden Distris (also z.B. CentOS, Fedora etc.) gibt es diese Kernel in den Quellen. Ich hab das jetzt händisch nachkompiliert, aber irgendwie find ich das doch etwas Panne das die funktion nicht in jeden Kernel drin ist. Ok, bei 64Bit hät ich das Problem nicht, aber da hab ich dann Softwareprobleme. Also muss ich nach jedem Kernelupdate den Kernel neu kompilieren.

Falls jemand dafür eine elegante Lösung hat, her damit :)
