Hey guys... Hola from all of us here at where ever it is I am...

Today, I'm going to be sharing my thoughts on the alpha male in the La Push Pack, Sam Uley...

Like Jacob, no one really gets him. He's a man of mystery, or wolf of mystery, whichever you prefer. He has a lot to hide, and be guilty about.

He's a werewolf

He really shouldn't be the Alpha in the Pack

He almost killed his imprint, Emily Young

Emily has to live with the scars of his mistake for the rest of her life

He imprinted on his high school sweetheart, Leah's cousin, Emily

He had to dump Leah for Emily

He used to be thought of as a cult leader

See... A lot to hide, a lot to be guilty about... I say he doesn't deserve all this guilt, mainly because we know that he loves and cares so much about Emily, but is constantly guilty about having to leave Leah for her. But really, I blame Leah for his guilt!

I mean, the poor guy has to live with the guilt of hurting Emily permanantly, but now having to be guilty for leaving her heartbroken... Seriously! He has enough problems to deal with!

Like, Jake running away to flippin' CANADA! And the Cullens breaking the treaty. AND worrying about more vamps in Forks and La Push! I mean, if I were him, I would probably be a pizza faced freak! What a stressful life! I think he's actually handling it really well though. Because he actually had to fight with his arch enemy instead of againstthe 'leaches'. He didn't have to do it, but he chose what was good for the pack.

Share your thoughts on Sam Uley..

Comments would be greatly apprecitated...

And dont worry... More rants are coming!

Thanks

"You can't possibly mean to hurt me with that weapon."

"Why not?" Mina raised the gun, aiming down the sights. Slowly, deliberately, she angled it to point at his groin.

His eyes widened briefly, then he smiled. "I'm a vampire."

"Yup. 'Course you are."

He took a step toward her.

"Ah ah ah. No closer, if you like your nubblies where they are. In fact, you should probably just back out of the room."

"Nubblies?"

She shrugged. "Family jewels. Beans and weanie." She flicked her eyes to his. "Cock and balls. Call 'em what you like, they're mine if you don't get out of here."

"This is ridiculous. You can't kill me with a gun, and we need to go. Now."

"I'm not in the habit of following crazy people to my grisly doom. That vampire bit was definitely not the way to get my trust here."

Marcus resisted the urge to snarl. With preternatural speed, he dodged across the office, stopping with his legs against her desk. To his surprise, she tracked his movement with the weapon. She moved her aim to his head, her eyes wide and panicked.

"Woah. That was fast."

He grinned and reached for her.

"Stop!" She yelled at him and backed up.

"Dammit! We don't have time for this!" He ran a hand through hair. "What can I do to get you to trust me?"

She twitched her head and thought for a moment. "Do the teeth thing."

"What?"

"If you can do the teeth thing at will, under my scrutiny, I'll accept you're a vampire and not just crazy."

It seems the phenomenon of Friday Fiestas is here to stay. What started with midnight bashes to her

It seems the phenomenon of Friday Fiestas is here to stay. What started with midnight bashes to herald the Saturday release of the Harry Potter books has become a publishing must.

So, tap a keg, whip out the jello shots, and pour a bowl of Frito-Lays because starting now the book industry wants you to Paaaaaaaaaartay!

First, RSVP to the Twilight Midnight Party being held across the country on Friday night, August 1st. Barnes and Nobles, Borders, Books-a-Million? You can't go wrong. Dress like a vampire, a werewolf, or just plain Bella and head on over.

Next stop? The Midnight Release Party for Christopher Paolini's Brisingr. And guess what day of the week that will be? You guessed it! Friday night. (For the Sept. 20, 2008 rel. date) This will be Random House Children's Books first Saturday release date.

These two represent just a small sampling of the growing trend. With Harry Potter, the parties seemed justified. No question. But, keep in mind that "worldwide sales" for Stephenie Meyer's Twilight books "top 8 million." That is less than the first weekend sales for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. And Paolini's Inheritance series? It's sold about a million.

We've all heard that the publishing industry is pushing towards major blockbuster hits. Well, big parties seem to be a factor in the equation on which they've decided. Only time will determine its effectiveness.

As for me? I'm not one to miss a party.

Want to read other Friday Forecasts? Check out Honey, I Shrunk Our Audience and Let's Talk Money.

Announcement: Serious goodies to be given away next week on Fumbling with Fiction! Starting Monday, every comment you leave will enter you to win a shiny, new hardback copy of Heather Terrell's The Map Thief. And guess what? The book's not even out yet! On Saturday, August 2, I'll be reviewing The Map Thief. Comments on that day will count as a double entry. I've got 3 copies with y'alls' names on them.

Status: Yesterday I made some serious progress on SCOUT. I'm learning a ton about what makes her tick and am loving every minute. I love this character and getting her story down is almost effortless. If only I had more time!

Right now, I'm in the middle of packing, which is no fun. My room is a disaster. I'm about ready to call in the National Guard. And I'm supposed to have everything done tomorrow. Wow! Ok, back to work...

Greetings from Fanpire Land, where the people are nerds and are obsessed with Stephenie Meyer's Twilight Saga!

So.... i think I will do a rant on my favorite Werewolf, Jacob Black!

Now, I never really understood Jacob, untill I started writing Fanfictions. Jacob's character is so... complex that you never really get where he's coming from untill Eclipse.

I mean, in Twilight he thought all those legends about the "Cold Ones" and "Werewolves" were just... legends passed down to him by his supersticious father.

And then, in New Moon, when Bella is as back to normal as she can be, he becomes the person he was afraid to be. But he didnt understand it when he thought it was all supersticious crap.

But then, in Eclipse, at the beginning of the book, you start to think, "this guy is really malicious!" But in truth, he's not. He's just playing the same game as the rest of the world! The battle for the one you love! And Bella realizes it too, but she doesnt want to. I admit, I was..... livid to say the least when the whole kissing scene took place. I felt like Bella had betrayed Edward, but Jacob had deceived Bella. I mean, we all knew it was wrong, but seriously, like Edward wouldnt do the same thing!

Like I said before! He's playing the same game as Jacob, only he's got the advantage point!

I mean, Jacob is in love with this girl, that threw him to the dogs!(no pun intended) She knows she's in love with this guy, but she chose the vampire, that doesnt have a pulse! I mean no disrespect to Edward fans, because really, Im one too, Im just ranting on Jacob today. But, with Jacob, she can have a life, have children, have a relationship with her parents, friends, and most importantly, be ALIVE! She's giving up on a great option right here!

But this might change, for Breaking Dawn is not yet released! Read this! Comment it! Please!!!!!!

I work in the exact center of mid-town manhattan. Any given day I am offered leaflets or advertisin

I work in the exact center of mid-town manhattan. Any given day I am offered leaflets or advertising postcards from no less than 10 people. Usually I do what any non tourist would do and ignore the sad sacks. After all, what could possibly be so interesting.

Well, today that changed. I don't know if it was the engaging t-shirts the people were wearing or... wait, did here shirt say "Support the Vampire Rights Amendment"? Sure enough, the people were giving out postcards and buttons in support of an organization called the "American Vampire League". Now the marketing guy in me was exited. "Did I get in on the ground floor for a new viral marketing campaign?"

Yep. Turns out the swag is a not so subtle marketing stunt for a new show on HBO. So far they have a few videos posted on YouTube and a Facebook group. I haven't found out any details regarding the show itself, but the website linked at the bottom of this post is the supposed official site of the AVL.

I'm very excited about whatever show this is. I LOVE all things vampiric. My favorite movie is the original Dracula with Bela Lugosi and I've got a cherished original theater poster drawn by Edward Gorey of a run of the play in NYC in the 70s.

I'll post more details when I can find them. For now, here are some pics of the swag.

UPDATE:

Well, I'm not quite on the ground floor as much as I thought. Aparantly the viral campaign has been going for a bit longer than I thought. If you've seen any of the Tru-Blood commercials on TV, those are part of the same viral marketing campaign. The campaign is for an HBO show called "True Blood". It premieres on September 7th and it's from the guy that brought you "6 Feet Under". I now have very, very high hopes for this show. I've posted a few more links to some of the related sites.

i have several stories completed and have been working on cleaning them up a bit. this is the first one, entitled eyes of the seer. the image to the right was painted by the talented christine griffin and accompanies this first work as a cover image of sorts.

thank you for reading. :)

peter

~

Prologue

You and I have never met. I can promise you this with utmost assurance, for if we had brushed paths, you wouldn't remember the experience. As such, allow me to introduce myself to you.

My name is Peter Dawes and I am a vampire.

The admission must stir a response. After all, how many times do you have somebody tell you that in such a candid and lucid manner? If you gazed upon me, it might make sense, and as we spoke, you would realize something was different about the man seated before you. The black suit hanging from his slender frame provides a stark contrast against the pale complexion. His mouth can move in conversation without revealing much in the way of teeth and as he spoke, you would notice the formal way he conversed, almost like a man out of place in time.

My apologies for that, by the way. Old habits die hard and after years spent given over to the notion that we immortals – we decadent sophisticates – must sound like relics straight out of the previous century, I have not been able to rid myself of the mannerism.

That isn't why I asked you here today, though.

I could spend hours telling you of life as a vampire, but rather than bore you with such a discussion, I confess I brought you here to tell you a story. My story. Horribly pretentious of me, isn't I? I promise, though, I am no ordinary vampire. When I smile wide enough to reveal my fangs, you may think otherwise, but as you've studied me, you've missed a very crucial feature underneath the short, light brown hair and above the crooked smile.

Do not fret, though. Most people do not know what they should be looking for when they see me. Not many of your kind recognize the bright green eyes or know of their relevance and for very good reason; unique creatures such as I do not wish you to know the relevance. There exists an entire world underneath your noses that you overlook every day and only when the supernatural world falls onto your lap do you know its presence. I was much the same as you a few decades ago; an unsuspecting, unknowing mortal with pale blue eyes instead of the ethereal emerald irises I now possess.

It seems I've lived so many lives in my still short tenor on Earth.

This is why I brought you here today. Somebody has to know the truth.

This man sitting before you has held many titles. He has been several people and several things already. There were years when he gazed at you with compassion latent in his stare – before he bartered his life for immortality – and there were years when he beheld you with coldness before he ripped your precious soul from this mortal coil. Saint and sinner. Bastard, friend, and foe. So many lives lived with an eternity lying in wait for many more to emerge. I'll not linger any longer on riddles; suffice to say there are many layers to this creature who walks within your midst and yet, you rarely cast a second glance his way.

My name is Peter Dawes and this is my story.

It all started with a murder.

These days, author Stephenie Meyer has given young readers a kinder, gentler breed of vampire to daydream about: Edward Cullen, the hero in the wildly popular Twilight Saga series.

I wonder if there really is a co-existence of both vampires and humans? I am quite thrilled with the thought...

Like what I said in my recent post, I like vampire themes and unusual storylines, thanks to Hino sensei I've decided what my latest manga addiction would be - - *squeals with joy* her latest masterpiece, the Vampire Knight!

The title recently and continuously became one of the top picks as I had browsed through several manga sites and video hosting sites as well for the animated version -- its first season installment. Who wouldn't be enchanted by her works?

The characters are lovable particularly Kaname, she made his eyes seem soulful *melts* that sometimes I wish I was in Yuuki's place! Yuuki indeed is a still doll for me that I thought it wouldn't matter if she'd be replaced by another character except for the fact that her hidden past is of great value to the story. I like Zero's character too but only second to Kaname! Also, the night class *all vampires* are of exceptional beauty! Waaah! *gasps for breath*

Too bad the chapters only has to come out monthly! :(( But I guess it would be a few days from now...yey!

I can't wait to uncover the deepest secrets the story conceals and I'm so psyched as to whom Yuuki will be ending up with! Let it be Kaname, onegaishimasu Hino sensei! *takes one full vow*

Maybe I'm gonna write reviews on each chapter? I still can catch up I guess...who knows!

Lyda here. I went to bed at 10 p.m. I got up at 1:30 a.m. I've been sitting at the computer since, playing spider solitaire, reading blogs, and wandering the Cosmic Innernetting. I took a short break when the Resident Sith Master got up to get some water. In the morning, he may or may not remember our short conversation, or even that he was up. Sleep walking runs in the family. Or lurches. Whatev.

Why am I up?? I haven't a clue. I was so tired today. I maybe had a little extra caffeine, but not mega doses. It was a bad day with the fibromyalgia, so I took two doses of Vicodine (properly spaced, one in the afternoon, one just before bed). Vicodine used to put me to sleep. What happened? I went to bed very sleepy, read a bit, fell asleep. Nothing new or unusual in any of this.

Then I had a really great dream (yeah, one of those dreams). And I was wide awake.

I'll be a basket case tomorrow. A total zombie. Even more than usual, I mean. And the cat refuses to let me sleep in. I tell you, he's trying to kill me.

And now I'm hungry. Who is hungry at 3:48 am?? Other than babies still on their night feeding, I mean.

And vampires. Who are also on their night feeding. Heh. Have ya'll read "Bloodsucking Fiends"? Great book. Did you know there is a sequel? Oh, and here's another of his I didn't know about. Must. Read. I love Christopher Moore's books.

Although I can never remember his name. I have to wander the bookstore, or look up one of the titles on the computer. It's not like it's a difficult spelling or anything. It's weird - like I have a mental block against his name or something.

But I digress...

I obviously need a keeper.

Or a real sex life.

In my wanderings, I discovered this site - Cake Decorating, the Dark Side. Sorry, I can't remember whose blog lead me to the link. Did I mention it's almost 4 am? I'll come back tomorrow (shit, I mean later today) and figure it out. Wait, I remembered, it was here on That is So Queer...

The Swedish chef makes cakes that look better than those - and he's a Muppet. YouTube has everything, I tell ya.

And this blog makes my Inner English teacher laugh. And this blog which has all kinds of geeky goodness, including Star Wars cakes. And I discovered that Spidey will be swinging and singing on Broadway. I think they should make "SpiderPig: The Musical". But that's just me.

Did you know Alan Rickman made a film called "Snow Cake"? Here's the trailer. Searching IMDb resulted in 7 movies/TV shows named "Cake", and over 75 movies/TV shows with "cake" in the title. Plus a lot more cake references. See? Who knew there was so much cake in movies?

Cake is everywhere. Except my kitchen. Dammit.

I discovered this guy, who is as obsessed with cake as I am. And this cartoon - I need a boyfriend who is this determined to bring me cake!

Cake or Death?

Why not both? Make your own Dalek cake (with a bonus Doctor Who clip).

CAKE!

Hey, I think I figured out why I'm hungry...

Hrumph. Don't have any cake.

This nice cold water is just as good, though. Water. Yum.

Dammit. No sex. No cake.

Might as well go back to bed.

It's past five in the morning now. Finally sleepy again. Heading back to bed now.

Maybe I'll dream of cake. To dream, perchance to sleep...

Wish me luck.

I had a very interesting experience the other day…one that I haven’t encountered in a wh

I had a very interesting experience the other day...one that I haven't encountered in a while, but I'm sure happens every single day. I've been lucky up until this point, I suppose, to only encounter people who are accepting of my beliefs and the information I present, and if they aren't, they kindly keep it to themselves.

Like everyday I check my "incoming links" to see who's linking to me or talking about my blog so that I can thank them for helping me out. Well--I followed one of the links to a forum the other day, which was a "vampire lifestyle support" forum. I was pretty impressed, and there were some great people in there answering questions for the people that came in and said "OMGZ vampires exist?!" or "I think I'm a vampire, help!" It was great...

...until I started getting a little further in, where some guy came in and started tearing these people apart. He claimed he was "debating" but in all honesty he was just being condescending, unreasonable and rude. He claimed he's been researching vampires for five years and he had a speech prepared on the proof that they don't exist (which he copied and pasted into the forum).

That's fine...state your opinion. But when the vampyres in the forum proceeded to kindly disagree he would pound them with remarks such as (and these are taken completely out of context, it's just the condescending tone I'm talking about):

" Yeah it's a little thing call eating food. You should try it sometime."

"Would like to try the "vampires have already back their claims bullshit again?""

"If you do a little RESEARCH which you vamps are avoiding it like it was the plague, you would know that the type of anemia that is not treatable, is the one that people who are HIV positive! Once again you guys don't like looking for answers so you stick a monster sticker on yourself and be done with it. Wow what kind of lable would I would choose if I never look up infomation about my dyslexia? One eye one horned flying purple people eater?"

He got every assumption he made about them wrong, and continued to demand "tangible" proof that vampyres existed. Everyone, to my surprise, stayed very calm and tried to explain things to him and correct his misconceptions, but he continued to come back with claims that our explanations were vague, inaccurate, or had an alternate explanation that could be explained by any array of medical conditions that he'd "researched."

I honestly wanted to participate in this thread, but his ignorance is leading me to act like I normally would not...and I don't even want to go there.

The thing is--there is not "tangible" proof of everything that exists. No matter how hard you try, there are not yet scientific instruments that can record energetic or spiritual experiences. (With the exception being the camera that photographs the aura, but this does not show how the person is actually altering the aura as this man demanded.) Some vampyres display certain visual effects of vampyrism, such as fatigue if they have not fed for a long time, and evidently there are a good many that exist for sanguinarian vampyres that do not even touch what psychic vampires experience. (Photosensitivity, anemia, etc.) But these are not symptoms of some vampyre condition, they are simply effects that vary from person to person, or do not exist at all in some, and can not always be associated with vampyres. Not all vampyres have anemia, not all anemics are vampyres. You see?

Vampyrism, when it boils down to it, is an energetic thing a spiritual thing (even the blood-letting kind) and neither can be perceived with the eyes or measured tangibly.

One of the girls in the forum made a very good point, and I'm going to have to paraphrase because it's now 240+ pages long and I can't find it, but she said something to the effect of: "There are no concrete facts, because we don't know all of the answers ourselves."

Wisest words I've heard all day. Vampyres are human beings too, and in being, are all different. Things that affect one vampyre, may never affect another. Some feeding techniques will work for some and not others. But most of all, there is no concrete proof, no checklist, to lable someone a vampyre. And from what it sounded like, if he didn't have this, he refused to believe there was a possibility that there were modern day vampyres speaking to him on that thread.

It's sad, really. If you go through life demanding proof for everything you wish to believe in. There is so much that can not be seen or touched that you miss out on if you live this way.

But in the end...he'll leave feeling triumphant, and the vampyres will continue being vampyres. Proof, or no proof.

So, the moral of the story is:
1. Not everything needs proof to exist.
2. There is no need to "flame" the people who believe something different than you.
3. Ignorance...is not bliss.

Today at work, while doing menial paperwork in a trance state that I find helpful for doing menial p

Today at work, while doing menial paperwork in a trance state that I find helpful for doing menial paperwork, I thought back to my college graduation many years ago. I had studied hard for years to achieve documented proof of successful higher education, and on that glorious day, as I walked back to the family car (mom's Vibe, from back before she also had a convertible), I remember my mother saying "You had a pimple on your nose."

There were no words of praise or celebration. I was then dropped back off at the house and my parents went somewhere without me, and I was left to face the fact that the greatest achievement of my young life was completely meaningless to my parents. It saddened me thn, and I was very depressed for several years about it. At one point I confronted my mother, the great Vampire Holocaust, Queen of All Undeads, about her cruel dismissal of what was, at the time, my life's only achievement. Her only response was "get over it."

I never did manage to get revenge on her, as she is an immortal creature of darkness that feeds on the suffering of others and highly proficient in the arts of necromancy and torture, but tonight I came to a greater understanding of this event.

You see, Vampire Holocaust has achieved success. she is a leader in her industry, her skills are in high demand, and she has removed all opposition to her will by doing hard work for long hours. She has a large suburban home and many cars and fancy pieces of furniture as a testament to her victories in battle, and I believe she has a secret collection of the adrenal glands tenderly removed from each of her foes with her own razor-sharp bone fingertips.

Needless to say, I inherited from this powerful necromancer I call Mom a capacity for similar success. I was in fact invited as a child to study at a special school where I would live a highly regimented life of long hours and hard work to achieve success not unlike my mother's. Thankfully, my father intervened.

My father has likewise achieved success, but in a different way. Unlike my mother, who learned powerful Italian necromancy at my grandmother's knee, he was tutored by Mothman, The Jersey Devil, and other Appalachian sasquatch-folk in the arts of a different path: the way of the Sagacious Donkey, known to the layman as "being a wise-ass."

With keen powers of discernment augmented by his military training, he saw in the docile, somnolent demeanor of his ever-napping child a capacity for greatness, but not greatness hard-won by the long hours and hard work of Vampire Holocaust's sorcerous ways. My father, Nuclear Holocaust, saw in me a heroic capacity for leisure, the ability to lackadaisically achieve heretofore unimagined heights of goofing off, slacking off, puttering around, and couch-potatofication.

"Work smarter, not harder" he would often tell me, encouraging me to use my intuitive dislike of effort and movement to find the most time, energy, and resource efficient solutions to any problem so that i might return to a state of blissful inactivity as quickly and comfortably as possible. It was this vital instruction that allowed me to discern a method of budgeting my time and energy in high school to get by with a B average while maximizing the time available for my leisure pursuits of the time such as comic books, role playing games, and horror movies. This same technique served me well in college, allowing me to invest as much time as possible into the chasing of girls.

The chasing of girls is the one area in my life where I failed to apply this valuably slackful strategy of my forbears. I had been misled by many romance-comedies to believe that relationships are things one must work at, even if one would rather be doing something else. The identity of the girl I chose to chase more than any other is lost to history, but I recall that she was a powerful sorceress like my mother, with the same ability to induce crippling despair by merely uttering a word of power. I was greatly impressed with her knowledge of black magic and sadistic demeanor, and even thought that by chasing such a girl, I could achieve the impossible and win my mother's approval.

Fortunately, it was not to be. One who follows the teachings of the sagacious donkey and acts like a Wise Ass may indeed live a life of great leisure and delight, but their friendly, slackful ways are often very irritating to those around them, and the girl I chased responded to my lackadaisical attitude with bone talons and shrill, ear-piercing cries as she attempted to conjure knowledge of a killing word from the depths of the void beyond hell. It was her harpy cry that snapped me out of my foolish belief that the enjoyment of anything, especially the company of another person, requires work, and I was able to treat her with the same beatific indifference with which I regarded the rest of the world.

Pleased that she had taught me this vital lesson that reinforced my slothfulness, that I was now unflappable in my magnanimous lassitude and no longer capable of being tricked into working, she set me free to achieve the great leisure of which I have always been capable. I later learned that she was a Leanhaun Sidhe, a species of vampiric gnome from the magical land of New England, and was an agent of my own mother's patron goddess, Kali the Destroyer, sent to get my life's journey back on track on the Path of the Wise Ass.

Since then, I have done as little as possible. I have leisurely pursued various creative pursuits until they became too much like work, at which point I set them aside for the more purified leisure of raw consumption, and have indeed achieved the nest of comic books and horror movie dvds that i often dreamt of as a young wise-ass. I have secured a job where I may achieve sufficient results with minimal effort and even dodged the mowing of grass and other chores i disliked as a boy.

sometimes, when I think back to the years I spent working at having fun rather than achieving fun by not working, i do pine for the company of someone to share my treasures with, someone who will appreciate my relentless pursuit of gluttony and sloth, someone who enjoys my goofy nature and will pay a high premium for my chaste yet whimsical company.

I know, however, that such a person does not exist in the world, that there is no sense in paying to watch someone else slack off when they could just keep their money and do their own slacking, so I do not bother to try to meet new people, and merely delight in the various on-again off-again friendships I have held onto for years, alienating my boyhood companions with some fit of despair or paranoia then celebrating the restoration of our friendship when they are bored and want someone funny to talk to.

Well the whole Twilight craze has died down, now that the official stuff has come out.
So someone created a BITCHIN New Moon Trailer.
She knows that Steven Strait isn't Jacob (although we still all secretly hope. Kidding - I like Taylor).
She said she couldn't find enough footage of Taylor to do the trailer.
ANYWAY! Enjoy :D

The straightforward way to discuss this book is to call it a vampire novel and move on from there. That's one conversation.

Richard Neville is seemingly the last man. Everyone else has become a vampire. By day he walks the empty streets, by night he cowers as the vampires surround his house.

What struck me most about I Am Legend was how it comprised a study in hopelessness and despair. The internal thoughts and deteriorating mental condition of the protagonist comprise the majority of this book.

Neville's study of vampires provides him with some relief through engaging his mind, the monotony rather than the danger being his greatest enemy. It is not bloodthirsty monsters but tedium that drag at him day after empty day. The incident with the dog is just incredible.

I Am Legend is highly recommended. If you see the word 'vampire' on the cover, don't be mistaken. This is closer to Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle than to Bram Stoker, or Joss Whedon for that matter.

What's Scent Got to do with IT?
Published by Sharon Moalem February 14th, 2007 in Evolution and You.
Have you ever wondered what makes one person's smell so appealing and another's so revolting? And I'm not speaking about the run of the mill bad body odor that builds up if you forgo showering for a while. I'm talking about that subtle, almost imperceptible odor that many of us spent fortunes trying to manipulate (the worldwide fragrance industry is estimated to be worth around 15 billion dollars).
Back to the question at hand, why are there some people whose smells we like and others we just don't? It may be that we're all spending so much money in vain because evolution has been at the scent game for much, much longer.
Turns out that women are the big players here (women's sense of smell is far better than most men) and it seems that they choose their partner's based on their odor. Studies have shown that heterosexual women tend to enjoy sniffing men whose immune system is most different from theirs giving their potential children a better fighting chance when it comes to surviving infections.
The part of the immune system that they are sniffing is called the MHC, it's what doctors routinely use to make 'matches' between people when they transplant organs. The closer your MHC is to another person, the more likely you are to be related.
This region of the genome also helps the body fight infections, and the thinking here is that being attracted to people who have a MHC region which is different from yours is one of the things that can help you from shacking up with a sibling.
So the next time you're on a date or with the one you love, just stop and think for a moment, without evolution and your wonderful nose, you may have ended up spending the evening cuddling with a relative.

It can make you hot and sweaty, especially around the back of your neck. But you still want to show off your locks-you spent so much time brushing and straightening. If you want to wear your hair loose and not get hot, this is the article for you.

Steps

~Drink plenty of water. This will most definitely help you stay cool. Fill up a drink-bottle with water, not soft drinks or even juice, just water. Carry it around with you and drink regularly. Not only will this keep you cool and hydrated, it's good for you and will make your skin look great.

~Wear appropriate clothing. If you're wearing your hair down, you might not need to wear a heavy jumper. Judging by the length and thickness of your hair, dress so that you'll be warm, but won't get too hot. For example, for very long and thick hair, you might only need to wear a light, long sleeved top. For shorter and finer hair, thicker clothing would be needed.

~Don't hang around in a hot place. Okay, so you can walk around outside, but try to make sure that whatever you're doing, the sun isn't directly hitting you, and that the place you're in isn't too hot. Just hanging around at home or going to the mall is okay, but maybe you should tie your hair up for going to the beach on a sunny day, or jogging.

~Wash your face frequently. Don't bring along your moisturizer and cleanser or anything, but every now and then splash some cold water on your face. It can help to just wash your hands, too. Do consider bringing and reapplying sunscreen. If you're at the mall, stop at the bathroom and wash your face in cool water. It'll make you feel cooler and more refreshed.

~Don't do anything to make you too hot. Don't go on a marathon run or a heavy bush-walk. Your hair should be tightly tied up for those kinds of activities. As stated before, hanging around home or the mall, or even just walking around is fine, but make sure you don't start doing anything that could get you sweaty and hot.

Tips

~Carry mints around with you. Sounds pretty weird, yes, but it'll actually help you feel more refreshed and calm, and maybe even a little less hot. So pack a tin of mints to carry around with you. It'll ensure you have nice breath, too.

~Keep your hair on one side. If things get really bad, try flipping your hair over one shoulder. It still looks cool, and it keeps your hair off your neck, giving you a break.

~Carry around a brush and hair bands. Just in case your group decides to do a heavy walk or play soccer, pack your brush/comb and a few hairbands for emergencies. Don't be lazy about it, you'll regret it later.

Warnings

You might get really annoyed and hot. Constantly flipping your hair and drinking loads of water, splashing your face. It can be a bit of a hassle, so if you think you might get annoyed, just tie your hair back.

One indicator of success? Over 1,800 book reviews of Twilight as of July 2008, for crying out loud! That's 9 times as many as "The Sound and the Fury". If nothing else, that speaks to how deep the fangs are on this sucker, and probably something about the decline of civilization.

The Twilight Saga tells the story of starcrossed love between a woman and a bloodsucker, and no, it's not the story of Anne Hathaway and her Con-Man boyfriend.

Nope, its that same old story, Boy Meets Girl, Girl Loves Boy, Boy's Vampiric Blood Lust causes relationship troubles. You have to give kudos to Meyer for finding ways to mix the romantic and horror genres in a way that is profitable and fulfilling to many readers, but according to these Book Reviews, Twilight, and by extension the Twilight Saga, sucks:

I don’t know anything about young adult fantasy fiction. I got a Harry Potter book for Christmas a few years ago, opened it up, read about 10 pages and never opened it again. I really liked the first Lemony Snicket book - mainly for the stylish binding and font, but couldn’t bring myself to care what happened to the Baudelaire kids after the first installment. My excuse that I’m not a kid is a pretty shoddy one, because many adults and children share a love for these fantastical worlds.

Now there’s this TWILIGHT series of books about teenage vampires, that on face value sounds interesting to me, but I tried to read it, and once again I was just completely underwhelmed. Reeltime has the trailer, too. But, I just don’t get it. I know ‘I don’t get it’ doesn’t fly at venerable journalistic sources like the OC Register and Ain’t it Cool News, but it’s much more honest than a long winded discussion.

But, just because I don’t get TWILIGHT, doesn’t mean it’s not going to be popular. In fact, it could potentially be really popular. The books are already huge sellers, and if the movie gets young females and their families to watch again, and again, like TITANIC, well, who knows the limit?
