Premessa

Come potrei fare?

Note:

sudo apt-get install youtube-dl

youtube-dl “http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejemplo”

y el programa guardará un archivo
ejemplo.flv
en tu ordenador.

Si escribís en consola
youtube-dl -h

Primero, necesitas tener Compiz instalado y activado.

(name=Vista) | (name=gimmie_applet) | (name=gnome-panel) | (type=Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu | Dialog | ModalDialog)

y

ToolTip | Menu | PopupMenu | DropdownMenu

sudo apt-get install tor

Most of the companies have made tie up with the Microsoft and is bringing out their product with windows preinstalled.. but a good configured system with windows installed is little bit beyond the reach of a common man.. here my question is Do you really need Windows.??? Most of you say yes i want windows because thats the only thing i know. just pause and think have you ever tried to check what Linux is all about or if something like Mac is there in market.. I'm sure most of those using pirated windows on their computer know there is something by the name linux but has never tried to check what it is because 10 years back someone checked it and said it is a geeks thing.. my simple advice try checking out a computer with ubuntu live cd.. its simply great if you need all the features like multimedia in it try fedora.. just see how gr8 it is and ofcourse the key word.. it is free... yo can get a copy of it from anyone who has it already. Free dosent mean it is sub-standard. Free means it gets improved every second. this is something unlike from windows. they make you pay and give you the bad experience. So why not go for more amazing, feature filled linux instead of Windows.. and yeah say good bye to virus along with windows.

A few months back, my friend Chad inspired me with a post describing his foray into the world of open source. I've been a fan of open source for a while. I dabbled in OpenOffice.org, an open source office suite with applications that give MS Office a run for its money -- partly by not even charging any money. I have even administered and used a lot of applications that run on LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP). I blog in on a WordPress.com platform, administer a SMF forum and a MediaWiki field guide, and developed a blog for a friend using WordPress.org. In all that, though, I never learned anything about Linux itself since all that fun stuff happened in the background on whatever served provider I used.

So when I saw Chad's blog and that he had actually installed and used (at times, exclusively) Linux as an operating system for his day-to-day computing needs, it excited me. As much as I appreciated the freedom of not having to pay money for great software, the thought of getting away with not even having to pay for Windows as an operating system blew my mind. Could I find complete freedom from the chains of the corporate computing world?

Chad's blog actually made it sound easy. And even better, it sounded like you could maybe even revive older hardware with this Linux stuff and make it run better than it ever did with Windows.

[I] recently created what my coworkers are calling the “Ubuntu Lounge”, a computer room on the third floor of our library where I’ve set up four legacy machines to run Xubuntu and Fluxbuntu.

Okay, Chad didn't say specifically in his blog that he made it run better than it ever did with Windows, but after researching these strange and mystical names (Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Fluxbuntu) I started to get the idea that this magical reviving might be possible.

You see, I've had this little HP laptop that I bought back in 2001 that had died of a virus likely downloaded through Kazaa and compounded by a chronic case of Windows ME. To make things worse, the restore disks that I had gotten with the laptop wouldn't work. If I wanted to ever use the thing again, I would have to either find a Windows ME install disk to use with the license I already had, or I would have to shell out money for a Windows XP license. I remember at one time, Chad had actually mentioned that I should look into putting Linux on it, but at the time those happy-go-lucky distributions like Ubuntu never turned up on my radar.

Also, I work at a non-profit that doesn't always have the money to upgrade its hardware, so the thought of using Linux to bring old hardware back to life -- without having to pay for any license fees -- really appealed to me.

After poking around at the different distros on the plate, I decided to try putting Xubuntu on a machine at work that had pretty much stopped limping along in XP. I downloaded the live CD. What a concept, by the way, letting you try out a whole operating system from a CD that doesn't even have to install a single file on your hard drive. After trying it out, I decided to go ahead and install the full version. And guess what -- I liked it.

It's probably because I started out in Xubuntu's XFCE window manager that I still gravitate to it over the more popular KDE and Gnome environments. But I also love it as a great middle ground: not as weighty as KDE and Gnome, but it's user friendliness is so much better than Fluxbox.

Let me take a moment to explain some of these crazy words to the uninitiated. I know they sound confusing.

Linux is the kernel of the system. It's what lets the hardware and software talk to each other. A distribution (or distro) is all the goodies on top of the kernel that make it into something that you can turn on and run the way you expect a computer to do. The distro packages the kernel together with a window manager (which, imagine that, manages your window environment) and a smattering of software that works with the window manager.

Ubuntu is the name of one of the most popular distros. It packages the Gnome window manager (one of the most popular wm's) with a ton of popular Gnome-based software.

Kubuntu is a distro in the Ubuntu family that uses the KDE window manager (prettier and far more configurable than Gnome, but somehow less popular overall) with a bunch of KDE-based software.

The Xubuntu distro uses XFCE as its window manager and generally tries to get away with sofware that doesn't depend too much on the Gnome or KDE libraries.

The above three distros are all canonical distributions of the appropriately named orgnaization Canonical Ltd that engineers, supports and releases updates for them on a regular basis with fancy animal names like Dapper Drake, Edgy Eft, Feisty Fawn, Gutsy Gibbon, and most recently, Hardy Heron.

The Fluxbuntu distro is a non-canonical and non-Canonical distribution that combines the reliability of the Ubuntu base with the ultra-light-weight Fluxbox window manager.

So is all that as clear as mud now? Good. Don't worry, you'll catch on. The beauty of it is that you can install all of the window managers on the same computer and run whichever one you want whenever you log on to your computer. The computer I'm typing on right now came with Vista installed, but I shrunk down the partition and installed Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu all together on a separate partition. And you don't necessarily have to install a whole -buntu just to run the software that comes with that distribution. For instance if you like Kubuntu's Amarok music player better than Ubuntu's Rhythmbox, you can have it. Just use your fancy Synaptic Package Manager to install the program, and it will check to make sure that you have all the libraries you need in order to make it work.

If this sounds like a bunch of nerdy jargon and doesn't make much sense, don't worry. Two months ago I wouldn't have understood what I'm talking about. So, in no time, you too can be as nerdy of a noob as me. I pretty much use Xubuntu exclusively at work and at home. If I can do it, then so can you. I can even recommend some required viewing so that when you take the nerd test you'll pass with flying colors. You do know the difference between a TARDIS and a DRADIS, right? I mean, you could potentially catch a TARDIS on the DRADIS, but you're not too likely to see a DRADIS on a TARDIS. And you know that Serenity is in Firefly and is a Firefly at the same time, right? Beats. Bears. Battlestar Galactica. I'm off to Tashi Station to pick up some power converters. Leggy Blonde, goodbye.

I found xplanet the other day because ... well, I forget why. But I tinkered with it yesterday and came up with a fairly interesting use for it. (Actually I didn't really come up with it. It's more or less hinted at on the xplanet home page, but I'll put all the steps here for you.)

That's a satellite cloud map for the northeastern part of the globe, around 6 p.m. on Friday, July 25. The cloud patterns were superimposed on on the globe by xplanet, which oriented itself so Tokyo is directly at the center. I have enough of an angle on the planet that I can see weather coming in from China and the Koreas, and typhoon systems coming up from the Phillippines and Taiwan, which is important this time of year.

The night-and-day shadow is updated every 30 minutes, and the cloud map refreshes every three hours and on each boot. The rendering itself is somewhat processor intensive, but aside from that, the system drag is dependent on how often you want the image to update.

Since xplanet comes with a standard earth map for night and day, the entire setup really only relies on your settings. Trigger xplanet like this:

xplanet -latitude 40 -longitude 139 -radius 75 -quality 100 -geometry 1600x1200 -fork -wait 1800 -config config

The latitude and longitude numbers should be fairly obvious -- those are the general coordinates for Tokyo. Replace those with the location you prefer.

The radius command zooms the map in close enough to give a better angle on my location. The setting is generally 50, which is the distance from the top of the screen to the center. In other words, the radius of the planet is 50 percent of the height of the screen. Setting it to more causes part of the planet to be cut off, like in the screenshot. Mess with that and see what you like.

Quality is a quality setting of course, and roughly corresponds to JPEG compression settings, like in the GIMP. I set it at 100 just because I happen to like my wallpaper to have some detail.

Geometry matches the screen dimensions. I set that because I don't care to have an outsized image rendered, then resized to fit the screen. Might as well do it all in one step.

The wait command tells xplanet to pause for 1800 seconds -- 30 minutes, give or take. I see no point in rerendering the map any more frequently than that. -fork sends it to a background process, independent of a terminal. Finally, the config file, where some more important settings lie.

In Crux, the default configuration file is at
/usr/share/xplanet/config
, which you can copy to
~/.xplanet/
and modify from there. Here's the only line I changed:

cloud_map=/home/kmandla/.xplanet/clouds_2048.jpg

There's plenty more in there you can change; just as an example, uncommenting the marker file setting for earth gives you city labels everywhere on your planet.

So there's only one other small trick that needs to be set, and that's a fresh cloud map. The xplanet home page talks at length about cloud maps (and maps for other planets too), but the long and short of it is this Python script and this command:

python download_clouds.py /home/kmandla/.xplanet/clouds_2048.jpg

The script searches mirrors for a fresh map, and sends it to the
.xplanet/
directory. The config file passes it to the xplanet process, and the entire trick is complete.

Almost. That map is refreshed every three hours, so while it's convenient to rerender the globe, we'll need a fresh cloud map every now and again. The obvious way to solve that problem is with cron, and if you decide you want to go that route, I leave it to you to set it up. It doesn't take much effort.

I decided to leave that out, only because I don't usually have the machine on for much longer than an hour or so without rebooting -- or it's on overnight, and I don't need to refresh it. Take your pick.

Adding both of those commands, in sequence, to your .xinitrc file gives you a fresh weather map at each X startup (or boot). Of course, you might have already sniffed out a little problem.

There's a considerable delay between when X starts, and when the first map appears on the background. Of course, that delay is going to depend on the settings and your system speed; on mine it's about ten seconds or so.

Which means you'll be staring at the awful default hash pattern for a little while. I haven't actually bothered to fix this yet, but my suggestion is to rewrite the xplanet command to output the image to a file instead of directly to the window.

Then you can use something like feh to actually paint the image to the background, and additionally you can trigger feh on startup to put up the old map, and let xplanet draw a new one. When it's done, trigger feh again, this time to apply the new image.

That's about it. There are other ways and other applications that can do this, but xplanet is really very cool; it does a lot more than just draw wimpy weather maps. Take the time to learn all the ins and outs and you'll be making some very cool background images. Check the xplanet home page for some more screenshots.

$ ping 208.69.34.231

$ sudo chattr +i /etc/resolv.conf

$ sudo cp /etc/resolv.conf /etc/resolv.conf.auto
$ sudo gedit /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf
# append the following line to the document
prepend domain-name-servers 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220;
# save and exit
$ sudo ifdown eth0 && sudo ifup eth0

apt-get install aria

Luego, vamos a Aplicaciones - > Internet -> Aria Download Manager.

¿Miedo a Linux? ¿Odio?

$ sudo apt-get install iasl

Volcar la tabla DSDT:

sudo cat /sys/firmware/acpi/tables/DSDT > dsdt.dat

Desensamblarla:

iasl -d dsdt.dat

Editarla con gedit:

gedit dsdt.dsl

If (_OSI ("Windows 2000"))
{
Store (0x04, OSVR)
}
....
Else
{
If (MCTH (_OS, "Linux"))
{
Store (0x3, OSVR)
}

Y cambiamos este ultimo por:

If (_OSI ("Linux"))
{
Store (Zero, OSVR)
}

P'a flipar!!!!

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server as a proxy/mail gateway, and I had a problem with apt-ge and havp.

It seems that every time I used apt-get it complained about some problem with havp:

Starting havp: Starting HAVP Version: 0.86
Could not create server (already running?)
Exiting..
invoke-rc.d: initscript havp, action "start" failed.
dpkg: error processing havp (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Errors were encountered while processing:
havp
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

So what I've done was:

sudo bash

cd /etc/init.d

mv havp havp.old

apt-get upgrade

mv havp.old havp

and this cleared my apt-get errors.

The guide was written by MAKETECHEASIER and can be found here. Now while it doesn't feature all the iApplications that you would get with your Mac OS X, it does a pretty impressive job in converting the visual appearance of your Linux PC into an Apple! I still haven't set up my spare PC with Ubuntu yet, so I can't test it really? But let me know if you come across any problems!

Subject: Foxconn motherboards sabotaging Linux ACPI

I am writing to inform you that Foxconn, one of the biggest manufacturers of computer motherboards is currently shipping boards with a BIOS that seeks out and attacks Linux with an intentionally broken DSDT table, this effectively cripples Linux's power management features, and makes it terribly annoying and crash prone, I've dissected part of their BIOS that proves this:

http://izanbardprince.wordpress.com/2008/07/25/foxconn-bios-sabotaging-linux-change-of-plans/

or

http://ubuntu-virginia.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=869249

I've already complained to the FTC and the Better Business Bureau over this, but I feel that backing the customer into the corner of using Windows, from a company that violates the user's trust is a horrible thing to do, if there is anything you can do to help in this matter, it would be greatly appreciated.
