I laughed out loud. By myself (well, with the dog). It was so absolutely perfect.

So, in the first post i mentioned that i was getting over a break up. While i don't want to get into the nitty-gritty of the relationship and the break up (quite certain that will come out soon enough--that's what this thing is for, right? ), the short story is that he was acting strange, wouldn't talk to me and then suddenly broke it off .

After a couple of postmortem phone calls (from a good distance), he could offer no explanation. None. And while I'm still a little shell shocked and my ego is more than a little bruised (it's a little fragile as it is), this little ditty definitely brought a new, lighter perspective to things. I mean, he just didn't want to be with me. That doesn't make it easier to take but, it also means that he's probably not thinking about me like i'm thinking about him. And no matter how hot i look next week and how successful i am, that will not make him change his mind. I will still do all of those things, but they need to be for me (i mean, they are, but i need to be the primary target).

So, thank you, Bret and Jermaine for giving me a moment of clarity and a few (hundred) laughs.

I am trying to really look at the big picture here.  What will I remember in 20, 30, 50 years? The uncomfortable conversation followed by a few uncomfortable weeks? the stress and the extra dollars spent? or fulfilling a shared lifelong dream of mine and my husband's?

I'm trying to be braver then I've been in the past and just trust. Trust that whether or not this will be everything I want it to be, it will indeed be the path I'm meant to follow. 

As usual in conflict, I am feeling the strong urge to talk it through with someone to help figure out the right decision to make.  But since there is no one both knowledgeable about my situation, and far enough removed to be unbiased, I finally took the plunge and started the blog I've been contemplating for a while.  I decided I should contribute to one of my biggest guilty pleasures.

I've added a page to this blog onto which I can publish my personal song-vocabulary and sheet music. I've learned quite a few tunes over the past week, but I'm worried that I get into the 'just learn' mode rather than the 'play properly' mode. My fingers are still pretty fast and accurate (thank God for muscle memory!), but I need to make sure I learn and play the stuff properly.

On a bit of a tangent - the band had to play for some senior officers in the pub last night. It was a bit of bad timing with a Championship just 3 days away, but the guys were obliged to play (they are a military band after all). It was great to see and hear the band as a whole, giving me a bit more incentive to get up to speed quickly.

I miss playing in a band... for months and months I didn't want to join one. All of the bands I've played for in the past hack at the same tunes over and over, and are only really active during the competition season each year. The Irish, by comparison, have parades and functions throughout the year, and there is always something going on. I'm glad to have joined... after all the shit with my coaching (click here to read about it) and the politics in rowing, I'm thrilled to have found something else to occupy my time.

China Earthquake Relief Concert Series is initiated and organized by a volunteer team comprised of staff members and students from the University of Virginia (UVa), and supported by International Studies Office (ISO) at UVa, UVa's Chinese Students and Scholars Society (CSSS), and various musicians and artists who are volunteering to perform on stage.

This endeavor is beyond all national divisions, racial boundaries, and religious differences. We are simply human beings, seeing others falling over and reaching out hands without thinking. Person to person.

We have one simple goal to help ease the suffering of the 4.8 million homeless and countless affected victims of the disaster to recover their lives.

I was waiting to post about this song until their was a video.... and let me just pat myself on the back because this is hands down the best video to come out in YEARS!

Now, I enjoy Rihanna as much as the next 'mo, but by no means do I worship the girl. For the last several months I've been beggin' for someone to "Please, STOP THE MUSIC." Well, someone, somewhere heard my cries and Riri returns with her version of thriller.

"Disturbia" is an uptempo jam with a hook that won't quit. I'd recommend googling the lyrics, since it wasn't until I read them that I understood what a brilliant song this is. Expect to hear the Jody Den Broeder remix of this at the clubs this weekend, and Denver remixer Craig C's mix in the coming weeks

I'm a firm believer that you could spend your entire life watching youtube videos and on your death bed you won't have seen all of them. It's something that spread like a virus, and quite frankly, I'm glad I've caught it.

I figured I'd try and bring you a new video or song every weekend that you probably haven't heard of, is on the verge of breaking out, or is fitting for the occasion.

This week, it's the Lost Daze remix of former Destiny's Child member Michelle Williams. Her song "We Break The Dawn" was a smokin' hot summer jam but never really caught on. Luckily, this remix is sitting in the top  5 on the Billboard Dance Charts. Good luck Michelle, keep turnin' out the dance jams.

The contest couldn't have come at a better time. Sales for her album E=MC2 haven't come anywhere near the success of Emancipation (2005), so Mariah has to spark some interest. Personally, I think "...Long Time" is the best single she's had since Shake It Off, and allowing the fans to be a part of the single is something that flourishes in the internet age. Allowing fans to vote at mariahcarey.com only adds to the interest in the single and hopefully will allow Mariah to return to the charts and the clubs in a similar style to current radio king Jesse McCartney. McCartney hadn't had a hit in years when he ran a similar contest for his recent single Leavin', but fan response to the contest and single were so huge that the song currently sits at #1 on radio and peaked at #10 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Generally, remix contests get flooded with computer-made mixes that have no musical integrity to them at all. To make sure the best remix wins, the top 3 will be picked by Mark Sudack, the co-executive producer of E=MC2, and Billboard dance columnist, Kerri Mason. The prizes are pretty fabulous, with 1st place not only having their remix promoted on Mariah's myspace, Island DefJam's site, and Mariah's official site, but pick up $5,000 as well. 2nd place is a ProTools LE Recording System, an awesome package for any aspiring musician, courtesy of sweetwater.com.

Since the early days of her career, Mimi pushed for many of her songs to be remixed, re-singing vocals to fit the structure of a dance mix (something that's relatively unheard of in the music business). Frequent Mariah remixer, David Morales mixed Emancipation era singles It's Like That and Say Somethin', but with the release of Touch My Body, the remix he completed never saw an official release. The lack of remixes for the next single Bye Bye fueled concern that this era wouldn't see a club anthem from Mariah.

I did see in no particular order, MGMT - saps climbing the scaffold stopped the show, but when they re-started, excellent. A spot of the Delorentos who were great, Amy Winehouse forgot her lyrics. I met Shane Hegarty, bring back present tense please?

Loose, Loose, Loose, I frickin love the Loose. The Ting Tings were rockin', Camille O'Sullivan is the sexiest thing i've ever seen, the end of Vampire Weekend was great, Raconteurs were a bit lame, Roisin Murphy was brilliant. Interpol are so hot right now.

I'm missing some, so i'm sure i'll remember later.

Excellent frilly knickers, I bought more yesterday Lady Anon, as Darren's named you! :) Excellent dancing, some brandy, a spot of pitting it at Interpol, feeling very important.

Unfortunately I had to bring my own cutlery, and I know it's not environmentally friendly but those wooden sporks get me every time.

It could very well be the year of P!nk before 2008 is said and done. Allaccess.com, a radio reporting website that keeps track of upcoming singles, recently revealed that August 18th Pink's first single from her 5th studio album will be sent to radio. The song is called "So What" and you better believe the Gayzette blog will be the first to bring it to you within the next couple of weeks.

For her new album Pink is once again working with producer Max Martin, of Since U Been Gone, Who Knew and I'm A Slave 4 U fame. (If you don't know these songs, leave your Gay Card behind as a comment). Until we get the mp3, check out these classic Pink performances you might not know about.
