Así, el Acer Aspire One se presenta con procesadores Intel Atom a 1,6 GHz, 512 MB o 1 GB de memoria RAM a gusto del consumidor, pantalla de 8,9 pulgadas con resolución de 1024 x 600 píxeles y retroiluminación LED, y dos tipos de almacenamiento: disco flash de 8 GB o disco duro de 80 GB.

Si optamos por el disco flash, obtendremos un Acer Aspire One que no superará el kilogramo de peso (995 gramos). Mientras que eligiendo el disco duro de 80 GB, tendremos que soportar 1,26 kilogramos de peso sobre nuestras espaldas. No obstante, cualquiera de las dos opciones no tendrá problema en funcionar con Windows XP Home o Linpus Linux Lite, los dos sistemas operativos que Acer nos permite elegir.

El sistema operativo de Microsoft es un viejo conocido por todos, pero Linpus Linux Lite puede que no os suene tanto. Se trata de una distribución Linux basada en Fedora que, además de estar específicamente diseñada para ordenadores poco potentes, nos ofrece una interfaz por pestañas para los usuarios no iniciados, como en los Asus Eee Con Linux, y un escritorio tradicional para los más avanzados.

Otro de los puntos fuertes del Acer Aspire One, al menos sobre el papel, es su autonomía. Y es que la conjunción del bajo consumo de los procesadores Atom con la retroiluminación por LEDs, permite gozar de hasta 3 horas de autonomía con la batería de 3 celdas, o de hasta 6 horas si no nos importa aumentar las dimensiones del Acer Aspire One con la batería de 6 celdas. Con esta última, el Acer Aspire One gana 2,5 centímetros de grosor en su parte inferior trasera y 7 milímetros de profundidad.

Mención aparte para el teclado de 84 teclas que incluye el Acer Aspire One. Según Acer, es solamente un 5% más pequeño que los teclados estándar de los portátiles y, como no, viene acompañado de un trackpad (o touchpad) como el del HP 2133 Mini-Note, es decir, con los botones en los laterales.

Por lo demás, en el Acer Aspire One también encontramos los típicos extras de estos miniportátiles, que cada día se alejan más de esta denominación. Así pues, tenemos disponible una salida VGA, tres puertos USB, lector de tarjetas 5-en-1 que también sirve para ampliar la capacidad de almacenamiento, clavija Ethernet (acompañada de WiFi 802.11b/g), webcam integrada y las habituales entrada de micrófono y salida de auriculares.

Por último, aunque esta primera versión del Acer Aspire One no dispone ni de Wimax, ni del más necesario módem 3G integrado, sus creadores aseguran que muy pronto tendremos disponibles estás características como opciones de configuración.

El Acer Aspire One, por el momento, no tiene precio, ni fecha de lanzamiento para el continente europeo. Sin embargo, en Estados Unidos podrán disfrutar de él a partir del mes que viene, previo pago de los 375 dólares que cuesta el modelo más básico. Los colores iniciales son blanco o azul, pero este mismo verano estarán disponibles los Acer Aspire One con carcasa rosa o marrón.

Nemrégiben két közelebbi ismerősöm is laptopot vásárolt. G., aki programozással keresi a kenyerét, egy új, 17 inches erőgépet vett régebbi, egymagos gépe helyett, mert nem csak vimben írja a kódot, hanem matematikai modelleket is számoltat a géppel, adott esetben heteken keresztül. N. pedig megvette élete első laptopját, egy aprócska 12 inches, szélesvásznú gépet. Kb. akkora, mint egy iBook G4 12", de ránézésre kisebbnek tűnik a szélesvásznú képernyőhöz alkalmazkodó arányok miatt.

Egyikük sem Macet vett, és egyikük sem szereti az új gépet. A relációanalízissel azonban még várjunk.

G. külső billentyűzettel használja gépét, és azt írja nekem, legszívesebben asztali gépet használna, mert külső billentyűzettel értelmét veszti a laptop, sőt, kényelmetlen, mert nincs elég magasan a monitor. Amúgy nem hurcolássza a gépet, csak végszükség esetén.

N. a trackpadot találja kényelmetlennek, és eleve nem érti, miért jobb laptopot használni, mint asztali gépet. A laptophoz nem lehet odaülni. Otthon a laptopon nincs internet, az asztali gépen van. A laptop számára leginkább egy könnyen hordozható írógép, amit el tud vinni a könyvtárba, hogy jegyzetelhessen vele.

Végül itt vagyok én, az ellenpélda, a "couch computing", tehát a kanapén/ágyban/konyhában/mindenütt gépezés apostola. Először nem értettem, miért nem kattantak rá erre ők is.

Aztán az a szomorú megfigyelésem támadt, hogy az Apple-ön és talán az IBM/Lenovo-n kívül más laptoptervező cégek alig fordítanak figyelmet arra, hogy jó billentyűzetet és jó trackpadet csináljanak.

A HP, Fujitsu és többi laptopon vacak, kisméretű tapilap van, a gép széléhez igazítva, netán aszimmetrikusan elhelyezve, miniatűr gombokkal. Képtelenség kényelmesen használni. Nehéz vele irányítani a kurzort, a csuklót kifacsarva kell tartani hozzá. Mindenképpen külső egér kell, ahhoz viszont unos untalan el kell hagyni a billentyűzet közelségét. A Windows egérmutató-kezelése sem tűnik ideálisnak: trackpaddel használva vagy túlérzékennyé válik, vagy túl sok mozdulat szükséges a nyilacska mozgatásához. 

A billentyűzetek pedig... N. kis gépén, noha a 12"-es gép szélessége engedné, nem teljes méretű billentyűzetgombokat használnak. A kurzorgombok elvékonyítottak. De akkor is bezsúfolt érzésem támad, ha gépelni kell rajta. Minta minden gomb egy picit kisebb lenne a megszokottnál.

A másik a taktilitás: noha a szóban forgó gép üzleti laptopnak van mondva, vacak, olcsó hatást keltenek lenyomás közben a gombok. Maga a műanyag is gyengének tűnik. A normál használatra szánt gépeken pedig kifejezetten botrányos keyboardokat szoktam látni: a billentyűzet egyik negyede lehajlik, ha gépelünk rajta, bizonytalan a nyomáspont, szivacsos a billentyűút, csúnyán vannak feliratozva a gombok.

Egyszerűen nem értem, miért fordítanak ilyen kevés energiát ennek a két Human Interface Device-nak a tisztességes megtervezésére. Hiszen fizikailag ezekkel vezéreljük a gépet! A képernyő mellett ez a két eszköz a legfontosabb kapcsolat a gép és a felhasználó között. Ha ezek rosszak, rögtön az elején megmérgezik a számítógép használatát.

És bizony ennek ára van: ismerőseim példáján látszik, hogy nem szívesen nyúlnak a laptophoz, mert kényelmetlennek találják a használatát. Először nem értettem, hiszen egy iBookon vagy egy MacBookon a trackpad nagy, kényelmes, egyszerű használni a kattintást, görgetést, a billentyűzetet pedig gyorsan meg lehet szokni és ki lehet ismerni. Ettől támad az a benyomása az embernek, hogy jó használni a gépet. Teljes mértékben képesek helyettesíteni egy tisztességes külső billentyűzetet és egy egeret a laptopon lévő eszközökkel. Aki nem próbálta, nem használta, annak képtelenség ezt elmagyarázni, mert a laptop szóval annyira egybeforrt ez a fajta kényelmetlenség, a rossz ergonómia, hogy az ember nem fogja fel: lehet másmilyen is egy hordozható számítógép.

First, I had to wrestle with the rumor that Apple are redesigning their whole laptop line and will release the new designs over the summer (bummer no. 1). This rumor kept me away from the MBP for almost 20 days (that’s exhibiting a lot of self restrain on my part). But then it hit me, if the rumor is true, and the new laptops will hit the streets in June, it will take anywhere from 2 to 3 months to reach us all the way in Kuwait. By then we will be in September! That’s a long time to wait, especially since my Macbook is getting relay old, and my 3 year old has taken possession of it! There, that settled it. I called the Apple store and reserved the last “17 MBP they had. That felt REAL good =)

So far so good. But then I realized that local Mac dealers charge at least 25% more than the prices shown on the Apple web site (bummer no. 2). OK, that’s a price I have to pay if I want local delivery, service and customization. That didn’t feel real good =(

When I finally unpacked my long-awaited 17" MBP, I found that it does not fit in any of my laptop bags, and I have plenty of them (bummer no. 3). This baby is HUGE! Oh well, this gives me a reason to go shopping for a bag. Actually that felt KINDA good =)

I lost contact with my surroundings, focusing on my new laptop, installing my favorite software, I reached for my Photoshop CS3 installation DVDs, dang! I already activated this software on my iMac. I can only use it on one machine? This defies the whole purpose of buying a laptop to start with (bummer no. 4). Franticly reading the licensing information that came with the DVD, and on Adobe’s web site I discovered, to my great relief, that the kind hearted people at Adobe allow you to install this software on 2 machines. Aaaah, that felt REAL good =)

I installed Photoshop CS3, Adobe Lightroom trial, and then started to import my 10,000+ photos. Usually, this is a very stressful time for me since this process takes a long time and anything can go wrong; and it did. All of a sudden, the trackpad started acting weird. It wouldn’t scroll properly, and became none responsive at times. Needless to say, I started to panic. This is the last laptop they had, and I will not have them “repair” a brand-new machine. The depression!! I call the store up and the lady tells me that their technicians have left already and I have to call back tomorrow (THE MOTHER OF ALL BUMMERS). You can only imagine what kind of a mental state I was in. A few minutes later I regained my composer and decided to do what any sensible geek would do: Ask Uncle Google! Sure enough, after some elaborate keyword searches I found an article that describes this very problem and it turns out to be … are you ready for this? … a grounding issue! Seemingly, since the MBP has a metallic body it has to be properly grounded or the trackpad becomes unresponsive! I was using my Macbook power adapter to power up the MBP, and that’s what caused the problem. As soon as I replaced the power adapter the problem went away. Now that felt REAL GOOD =)

The Apple geniuses have come up with another good one: the Multi-Touch Trackpad. It works the way the iPhone's screen works: you can rotate, zoom and much more the all-new trackpad. Once connected, you have high-speed internet and the ability to print at any printer found. Of course, this new laptop has Leopard, Apple's newest operating system. Also trackpad hot corners and sidebars are great if you know they are there but until we can make trackpads with little LCD displays in them to indicate their presence, they can infuriate the uninitiated.

I finally realized that you can invoke the right-click by starting with your two fingers on the trackpad and then clicking the trackpad button, or you can hold the trackpad button down first and then tap your pair of fingers.

Para isso, basta conectar seu iPhone ao computador usando o Wi-Fi, iniciar o aplicativo Touchpad e começar a usar. Cheguei a instalar aqui, ficou muito legal, mas o uso mesmo é mais para curtir ou mostrar para alguem do que seu iPhone é capaz. O cursor fica com um lag, depois de um tempo... não sei se é só com a minha maquina, mas mesmo assim para um uso diário seria impossível... o wifi gasta muita bateria do iphone e ainda fica muito quente, mas foi legal testar ele no photoshop.

So, I would love to get me hands on an iPhone, but now I'm stuck in a two-year Verizon contract (I have nothing against Verizon - in fact, one stumbling block towards buying the iPhone was AT&T - I had a bad experience with them in the past), and I come across this article discussing a new patent Apple submitted for an "advanced multi-touch" touchpad. This evidently makes use of the "edge" of the pinky for certain functions (click the links to read the comments, if nothing else - they're great. Like, "i can't wait to use my thumb and four fingers to stroke my iPhone...You'd do that in public" or something like that).

This one always happened while the MacBook Pro was searching for a wireless network. Sometimes the mouse would stay jumpy, even after finding and connecting to a wireless network. Only a reboot would get rid of the erratic pointer behavior.

So this one is finally fixed. And it makes the Lame Leopard very happy!

My only complaint is that it took four months for them to fix this one even though people have been reporting this issue since the day 10.5.0 came out.

Según comentan en Insanely Great el trackpad multitactil del MacBook Air se consigue mediante software y no mediante un nuevo hardware. Esto implica la posibilidad de que algún manitas pueda desarrollar una aplicación o panel de preferencias que habilite dichas novedades. Si os fijáis en la demostración que hace Apple de las nuevas características no son nada del otro mundo como para necesitar un nuevo hardware. Por tanto, la posibilidad de conseguirlo mediante software en toda la gama de portátiles actuales lo veo factible.
Recuerdo cuando salió la nueva gama de iBook y PowerBook que permitían hacer scroll con los dos dedos. En ese momento me pregunte si sería posible hacer lo mismo en mi iBook G4, pero no encontré nada por internet en ese momento y decidí olvidar el tema. Hasta que un buen día hallé iScroll2, wow! me encantó. Todos sabemos como funciona y lo cómodo que es el scroll con sólo usar dos dedos. Ahora espero que veamos las nuevas funciones en todos nuestros MacBook y Macbook Pro.¿Habéis probado a ir a Google Maps y hacer el gesto que se usa en el iPhone/iPod Touch para ampliar la imagen?

Sure, the new MacBook Air has a multi-touch capable trackpad and supports gestures, but did you know that the MacBook and MacBook Pro also support gestures?

Not some of the fancier ones like pinch and expand or rotate, but still some useful ones that you may not already know about:

• Scrolling: Place two fingers on the trackpad and move them up and down or side to side to scroll your active application window (it needs to have scrollbars and have a place to scroll too first, of course). Leopard can also do a diagonal scroll if you have both "Use two fingers to scroll" and "Allow horizontal scrolling" enabled in System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse > Trackpad.

• Screen Zoom: Hold your CTRL key, place two fingers on your trackpad and move your fingers up to zoom in and down to zoom out.

• Tap: Make sure that "Clicking" is enabled in System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse > Trackpad and tapping on something will be the same as clicking on it.

• Click and Drag: Drag an item by double-tapping your trackpad and dragging it without lifting your finger. "Clicking" and "Dragging" must both be enabled in System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse > Trackpad.

• Drag Lock: Works with Click and Drag, requires you to tap once on your trackpad to release a dragged item. "Clicking", "Dragging" and "Drag Lock" must all be enabled in System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse > Trackpad.

• Secondary Click: Do the same thing as a right-click on a mouse or CTRL+click to open a contextual menu by tapping on an item or window with two fingers on the trackpad. "Tap trackpad for secondary click using two fingers for secondary click" must be enabled in System Preferences > Keyboard and Mouse > Trackpad.

Tras la aparición del MacBook Air y su trackpad multitáctil lo primero que todos pensamos fue: "esto tiene que llegar al resto de portátiles de Mac". Pero de primeras reconozco que imaginé que sería una actualización en lo que es el hardware del ordenador. Hoy Apple me ha sorprendido gracias a la noticia de Pedro Santamaría de Applesfera, en la que reconocen que simplemente será una actualización de software, por lo que en un principio todos los poseedores de un Mac portátil podremos disfrutar de la sensación de ampliar las fotos con los dedos en el pad. Por ello nos felicitamos y ya estamos esperando la actualización.

Se publica en TerraMac la actualización de Office 2004 para Mac. Viene a solucionar una vulnerabilidad en la seguridad por lo que un usuario maluto podía sobreescribir la memoria con código malintencionado y hacernos la puñeta. Siempre que huele a Microsoft aparecen las palabras "vulnerabilidad" y "seguridad". Pero con todo para mí es noticia, no solo porque sea usuario de esta suite ofimática, sino porque se sigue dando soporte a pesar de haberse volcado mucho más a su nueva versión 2008.

Y terminamos esta sesión de noticias con algo que personalmente venía esperando desde hace tiempo. Desde SomosMac vemos como los amigos de Cupertino se han dado cuenta que tener un dispositivo tan bueno como el iPhone y no incluir una buena radio digital no es de recibo en estos tiempo presentes y futuros. Así que se está planeando el implantarlo, veremos como, si por vía accesorio, hardware o software. Por supuesto es de supone que el iPod Touch también se verá beneficiado. Y sospecho que la próxima generación de iPods también llevarán esta radio digital de serie.

Dentro de poco vamos a poder disfrutar en la Apple Store y en las tiendas Apple de este monstruo de los portátiles en su versión más renovada y actualizada. El lanzamiento en enero del MacBook Air con todas sus innovaciones tecnológicas marcó un punto y seguido en la carrera por actualizar la gama "antigua" de Apple, y el turno le llega a la joya de la corona, el MB Pro.Las principales mejoras vienen de la mano de la arquitectura Penryn de Intel y el novedoso y sorprendente trackpad con la tecnología multi-punto que ya se disfrutaba en el iPhone y que nos dejó con la boca abierta en el MacBook Air. Los discos SSD, no sería raro que sustituyeran al tradicional y más pesado HD. Y las pantallas sufrirán las mejoras del Air, en cuanto a la utilización de la tecnología LED con más calidad de visionado. En resumen, que aprovecharán todo lo bueno que ha traído el Air pero respetando la calidad y la potencia que ya de por sí nos ofrecía el Pro. Un gran producto, veremos el precio de salida.

to activate it, here's the method.

open the terminal.app (Applications folder>Utilities folder> Terminal)

type :

defaults write /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences

com.apple.mouse.tapBehavior -int 1

trackpad tapping in login window is already to use.

to turn it off, just type :

defaults write /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences

Es una pregunta que me he hice nada más ver como con tres dedos se podía hacer zoom en las fotografías usando el nuevo MacBook Air de Apple. Me puse a imaginar cómo funcionaría para hacer más rápido los movimientos más habituales que suelo realizar cuando trabajo con un ordenador. Llegué a la conclusión que para el uso de teclado y ratón común en los sobremesa, el multi-touch, tal y como está ahora mismo planteado no me serviría de mucho, incluso haría más lentas algunas de las acciones, como cambiar entre pantallas, cerrar o abrir programas. Pero qué ocurre en el uso de un portátil...

Realmente muchas personas utilizan un ratón en sus portátiles para trabajar con plena funcionalidad en ellos. Los mínimos tamaños y sus conectividades USB/ Bluetooth, les hacen compañeros de equipaje de mínimo peso. Pero hay quien está acostumbrado al trackpad y no precisa de mas. Aunque mucha pericia tienes que tener para ser más ágil y rápido que en la combinación teclado-ratón. En estas pensé en el beneficio del Multi-Touch y lo vi perfecto para trabajos de edición de imagen, pero no le encuento un uso funcional y práctico tal y como está diseñado. Es muy vistoso, pero siguo pensando que el uso del ratón es más cómodo para un portátil. Otra cosa son las pantallas táctiles de los tablet, o del propio iPhone y el iPod touch, que se hace imprescindible e increíble la experiencia.

Tengo ganas de ver las review de los primeros usuarios del MacBook Air, para que nos describan esta nueva tecnología aplicada a los trackpad. Mucho me van a tener que convencer. Os dejo con un tipo que convirtió su iMac en iMacTouch, esto si es grande.

Apple propone un portatile di nuova generazione e segna un nuovo capitolo (Finalmente) sul versante hardware. Il prezzo è elevato, ma le caratteristiche tecniche e il design super moderno, lo proiettano come sicuro prodotto dell'anno!  Dopo l'iphone, anche questo Macbook Air usufruisce della tecnologia Multi touch (Anche se limitata al trackpad) sempre più protagonista, grazie all'estrema facilità d'uso e alle numerose possibilità di utilizzo.  Steve Jobs e la sua Apple, si confermano ancora una volta apripista nel mondo tecnologico!
