Something tells me that there might be a bombshell revelation about this otherwise sure to win ticket. For the record, I find detestable the way people are trivializing Colonel Tigh's brave service, specially during his time at the New Caprica Hilton. THE MAN LOST AN EYE, OKAY!?
For those of you that didn't follow it, Battlestar Gallactica was an excellent television program. From what I understand there is still one official episode for the series yet to be aired, but the current "end" of the series was something of a downer. A poster on Fark nailed down the plot precisely, which when compared to picture above, caused a bit of the ole' lol.

Sky1 will air Caprica, the much-anticipated two hour prequel to Battlestar Galactica from executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick.

As BATTLESTAR GALACTICA heads into its fourth and final season, CAPRICA will expand on the Galactica world and get deeper into the origins of the story whilst promising to deliver more of the passion, intrigue, political backbiting, family conflict and hardcore action that fans have come to love.

Set 50 years before BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, CAPRICA follows two rival families – the Graystones and the Adamas. Bound together by tragedy, their ensuing struggle will determine the fate of the 12 Colonies.

CAPRICA is a society rife with advanced technology. Little do they know they are trembling on the brink of the creation of the first CYLON (cybernetic life-form node).

The Graystones and Adamas come from different cultures and wildly different socio-economic backgrounds. Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz, The Mask, Pulp Fiction) is a computer genius and the leading businessman of the 12 Colonies. His wife, Amanda Graystone (Paula Malcolmson, Deadwood, ER) is an elite neurosurgeon. Joseph Adama (Esai Morales, NYPD Blue) is an immigrant, a lawyer with ties to the mob, and a father who is desperate to reconnect with his estranged son, William (Sina Najafi).

Their bitter rivalry will bring the end of life as they know it. Their children are the future.

Be aware there are major spoilers for Sine Qua Non in this Review so if you dont want to be spoiled

Be aware there are major spoilers for Sine Qua Non in this Review so if you dont want to be spoiled dont read on

One Sentence Review

A good episode but we are still left hanging from last weeks cliffhanger, and there is a pointless subplot about who should be acting president

Episode Summary (SPOILERS)

The episode opens on Galactica with Natalie being wheeled into sickbay as she dies she sees a vision of a forest. In response to shooting Natalie Athena is thrown in the brig. On colonial one, there is confusion over what is going on and Zarek assumes the presidency, this leads to a pointless subplot where Adama ignores and bypasses Zarek and Lee and Romo search for an alternate candidate and the "shocking" decision is reached to make Lee Adama the acting president as he is the only candidate acceptable to everyone. The only thing of note in this subplot is that we see Romo's cat running about yet at the end it is revealed that the cat has been dead for weeks (Romo sees the cat, Lee probably does not) and President Lee gives Romo Jake the dog (the New Caprica dog whose dog bowl was Gaeta's signal) as a payment for his help.

On Galactica Tigh talks to Caprica 6 about the Resurrection Hub and it is revealed that only the Hybrids can locate it and only after it has completed a jump (Not sure if 6 is referring to the Hybrid or the Hub), Tigh again sees Ellen as 6 asks him if he loves her. A heavily damaged raptor from the rebel baseship jumps in with no one alive on board, after finding out the Raptor was the one which shuttled Roslin over due to Adama finding Searider Falcon in it. Galactica then jumps to the raptors last location and find signs of a massive battle with damaged Vipers, baseship fragments and evidence of destroyed resurrection technology indicating the Hub has been destroyed. In sickbay Cottle tells Adama that Caprica 6 is pregnant and Adama confronts Tigh about this leading to a fight between Tigh and Adama in Adamas Quarters. Due to his feelings for Roslin, Adama keeps on making reckless decisions leading to him eventually handing control of Galactica over to Tigh while Adama takes out a raptor and waits while the fleet jumps away in search of Earth.

My Thoughts

Overall I would say that this is a good episode and there is alot of development on the Galactica side of things. It did feel that most of the developments could have been fit into half an Episode, the Lee Adama and Romo subplot is the worst offender as from the moment it was clear that Adama would not accept Zarek as president it was clear that Lee would become acting president as he is the only known viable candidate and someone as politically astute as Zarek would realise this. The only alternative to this would have been Lee going back to command Galactica after Adama announced he would quit as Lee does have prior experience of commanding a battlestar and he would be willing to work with Zarek unlike his father and his command record is better than Tighs. Moving on to Tigh, I was shocked when it was revealed he had made Caprica 6 pregnant because even though it has been predicted by posters on the BSGCAST comments boards I thought with Tigh being a cylon and Caprica 6 being a cylon that it was not possible. The Tigh and Adama scenes were as a whole handled well and there was a nice nod to the number of times that Adamas model ship has been damaged and has needed to be repaired. There was also a moment when Adama gives Tigh command that I thought that Tigh might admit to Adama that he was a cylon. The main problem with this episode is that we learn virtually nothing about what happened on the baseship, we learn that they attacked and probably destroyed the Resurrection Hub but other than that nothing. I suspect that this episode and the next were originally one episode but at somepoint in the writing process it was decided to expand it into two episodes each concentrating on one part of the plot exclusively (one episode Galactica and the other the Baseship) with the Romo/Lee presidency subplot added to Sine Qua Non. I therefore expect a similarly pointless subplot in the next episode as well and to not see the fleet unless in the last 5 minutes, they may meet up with Adama earlier than that however.

Liked

The Caprica 6 pregnancy revelation

Tigh and Adama throughout the episode

Athena being thrown in the brig

Head Lance the Cat!!

A nice continuity nod with Laird (Deck Chief from Pegasus) being mentioned by Tigh

Disliked

The whole Lee Adama and Romo subplot, it was not needed as Lee should have become President by the end of the first act

The lack of any proper information about the Rebel Baseship, Roslin and Baltar

The uselessness of the Quorum of 12

Questions Raised

Is the Rebel Baseship still intact

Did they complete their mission

How did one cylon manage to impregnate another cylon

What was going on with the Cat, was Romo projecting and did Lee see the Cat

How long will Admiral Adama stay alone on the Raptor for

How long before Athena gets out of the brig

How long will it take before Tigh declares martial law this time :-)

Episode Rating

7/10 - A good episode let down by a pointless subplot

Theories and Speculation

Firstly the fact that Tigh made Caprica 6 pregnant indicates that the final five do not have the same problem with reproducing that the Original 7 do, unless Baltar is the father and Adamas certainty it was Tigh seems to preclude that possibility. This also raises the possibility that Caprica 6 or her child could be the final cylon as labour is known to cause "Howls of Suffering". Given the amount of suffering going on this Season (Gaeta, Athena, Cally, Natalie, Starbuck, Roslin, Adama, Romo) it is also possible that the part of the Hybird Prophecy referring to suffering does not refer to the final cylon suffering but rather the suffering that everyone seems to be going through. The pregnancy revelation also brings Cally and Helo back into contention as candidates for the final cylon and of the two Cally being the better candidate given her suffering and the irony of the biggest cylon hater being a Cylon.

There is also the question of Romos cat as it is clear from Romos actions that he could see the cat, but it is not clear that Lee did not see the cat though his dialog leans towards that being the case. Was Romo projecting similar to Baltar (Head Lance the Cat) is he the final cylon? Last week Gaeta this week Romo, Ronald D Moore seems to be making as many people as possible viable candidates for the final cylon

Finally the question is raised, where is the baseship? If the mission was a sucess why didn't they jump back. If they suceeded in getting D'anna or even if they didn't as the ship was not found at the battlesite it indicates it has jump capability, therefore it should have jumped back to the fleet. I predict the reason it hasn't jumped back will be because it has found Earth.

Note: BSGCAST finally have their page up for discussion of this episode, I would recommend checking the BSGCASTs out if you havent allready

Obviously, Starbuck is too obvious. And I think she actually has another role, although I've not quite worked out the role myself - a messenger maybe.

And I think I read somewhere that the producers said it definitely wasn't Roslin, Baltar, or Bill or Lee Adama. So where does that leave us?

Knowing what we do about the four among the crew - Tigh, Anders, Tory and Tyrol - I think it's clear that the Final 5 are very different from the other Cylons. What exactly that difference is, I'm not sure. I've even speculated that they were from Earth.

But knowing how similar the Final 5 are to the rest of the survivors and how long they've been integrated with the colonists (Tigh has been friends with Adama for more than 40 years), I've had trouble picking up any clues as to the identity of the last Cylon. That is, until this last episode.

In "Ties that Bind," Cally, Tyrol's wife, suddenly became a suspect for me for two main reasons. Let me explain why.

The four revealed in "Crossroads" all became aware of their Cylon status when they entered the nebula. Clearly that nebula has had an effect on Cally too. She said her insomnia started when they entered the nebula. But unlike the others she turned to pills to help with the symptoms. Could the pills have prevented her from hearing the music? Or as the last model, could she simply be so different that the music didn't affect her? If the final Cylon is on Galactica, why else would they not have responded to the music when in the nebula like the others?

Then there's baby Nicky. A great deal was made about Hera - a child born to one Cylon parent and one human parent. Hera is considered the chosen one. But what about Nicky? If Tyrol is really a Cylon and Cally a human, wouldn't Nicky be some miracle baby too?

In everything I've read the producers have been especially evasive in acknowledging Nicky as a half human, half Cylon. Could that be because he really is a full Cylon?

At first I thought the difference between Hera and Nicky was that one had a Cylon mother and the other a Cylon father? Or the fact that Tyrol was a different type of Cylon that Athena could be the difference. But if Nicky has two Cylon parents that explains a lot.

The one think that troubled me about this theory is why would Tory kill a fellow Cylon. But clearly the other four Cylons aboard Galactica don't know who the final Cylon is, so it's possible that Tory didn't recognize Cally as a fellow Cylon. The other four didn't recognize each other's status until the nebula. And we also know that Cylons are above attacking each other.

But the big question is what has become of Cally. Is she really dead? Do the Final 5 regenerate like the other Cylons? If so, how? They clearly don't have a resurrection ship nearby which is pretty risky in and of itself.

And that leaves me with one final question (or at least one that I'll ask here). How many copies of the Final 5 are there? Is there only one? Could that be what's different about them? Or are there more copies? If so, where are those copies? Earth?

So tell me, do you think Cally could be the final Cylon? Or are the clues I'm reading misdirection? If not Cally, who do you think is the final Cylon?

------------

The season four premiere of Battlestar Galactica has fans everywhere buzzing with questions and theories. Co-Producer Mark Verheiden is pretty mum about spoilers, but he did give a clue of where to look.

Who's the final cylon? What happened to Starbuck? Does she really know the way to Earth? What is with Baltar's harem? Is the prophecy about Hera (Agathon and Helo's baby) or Nicky (Tyrol and Cally's baby)?

These are all questions fans everywhere are puzzling about. But in a recent interview with ComicMix, Verheiden is mum on the answers to these hot questions. The only thing Verheider will say is "As to what it all means, again, I preach the mantra of patience..."

But he is willing to talk about eyes, or more specifically the right eye:

"If there's a single moment that I really like in that "gave me a little chill" way, it's the red light from the raider scanning Anders' eyeball."

For those of you not paying attention that was Anders' right eye. And after scanning it, the Cylons disengaged and left.

Verheider promises that we'll learn more about it next week. But could a scene before it hold a clue.

Moments before the recently self-identified cylon Sam Anders went face to face - or eye-to-eye - with the toaster-version of the cylons, his fellow recently identified cylon Colonel Tigh had a hallucination on the bridge.

In his dream sequence, the one-eye Tigh shoots Admiral Adama in his right eye - the very same eye Tigh is missing as a result of the cylons on New Caprica.

About this Verheider quotes writer David Weddle:

"I was waiting for someone to pick up on that telling detail. Congratulations. But I am disappointed you have not figured out its significance within the larger mythology of the show. It's all laid out for you. All you have to do is run the episode over again in slow motion, and the deeper truth will be revealed."

Well they say the eyes are the windows to the soul. Can they be the window to the secret of BSG?

Check out the screen shots from that sequence above. What do you see?

Maybe I'm reaching, but in Adama's glasses I see the reflection of the board behind Tigh. With the hole that bullet left, I think his eye looks like the Eye of Jupiter.

I've read on some boards (I can't remember where, sorry) that the Canadian version was bloodier that the Sci Fi version of the episode so I'm not sure if that makes a difference in the image.

If that is the Eye of Jupiter, what does it mean? Why did Tigh shoot the right eye? Why did the cylons scan Anders right eye? Is there a connection between these two events?

Could Tigh have used his hallucination to send some kind of warning to the toaster cylons through Sam's eye?

Na crítica sobre 'He That Believeth in me', o Bruno perguntou o que eu não gostei no episódio.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. That is SOOOOO first season.

Tudo bem, colocaram a escolta.

O "put them back on" do Adamão foi de partir o coração.

Assim, do nada?

- A batalha inicial: Linda

Ha.

Meus comentários?

- o Letterman é o cara mais sem graça do planeta;

- a lista de Top Ten é a segunda coisa mais sem graça do planeta;

- só vi dois momentos realmente engraçados: Tigh e Adamão. A Roslin e a Starbuck foi engraçadinho. O resto me fez sentir vergonha alheia, coisas bem no estilo "Sci Fi é coisa para gente boba";

- Ainda sobre o Jamie, é engraçado como ele fica com o sotaque americano durante toda a parte que tem a ver com o universo BSG e daí em um segundo volta pro britânico. Como se ele só conseguisse falar "FTL drive" em "americanês". Dá pra ver como é automático para ele;

- Starbuck, Roslin, Tigh e Adamão são os únicos que estão "no personagem";

- Desperdício do talento do cara que faz o Baltar e eu esqueci o nome;

- A peruca da Tricia fica ridícula na iluminação do Letterman. Podiam ter deixado ela com o cabelo normal;

- Number Six, number six foi legalzinho;

I’m back from my Christmas break, with lots of new DVDs to watch and not enough time… Sa

I'm back from my Christmas break, with lots of new DVDs to watch and not enough time... Sad, sad, sad.

In any case, we continued with Battlestar Galactica season 3 yesterday, watching "Exodus", a double episode that ends life under Cylon occupation for the poor denizens of New Caprica. (Who'd have thunk, with a title like that?) The episode was exciting, with some fairly tough scenes in between - but the way they continued from "Precipice" was a disappointing cop-out.

Last thing we'd seen was Callie, running away after Jammer cut her restraints and told her to get out of there, and then we heard the sound of gunfire... Of course it was unlikely that the guns firing were actually the Cylon executioners cutting down, among others, Tom Zarek and Laura Roslin. It was unlikely that they'd kill both of them off in one fell swoop lifted more or less directly from The Great Escape. But they completely cheated with continuity and editing - when "Exodus" part 1 finally arrives at the scene, it's plain to see that a) Callie isn't running next to bushes or trees and b) by the time the guns start firing, she's already been thrown to the ground by Chief Tyrol. There's only one thing to say to such blatant cheating:

"HE DIDN'T GET OUT OF THE COCKADOODIE CAR!"

Anyway... While the episode fumbled on that one, it was very strong on characterisation. Especially Starbuck and Tigh get fantastic scenes. I never really liked Ellen Tigh as a character, finding her annoying more than anything else, but her last scene with Saul was quite heartbreaking; as was the expression on Kara's face when she arrives on the Galactica with kiddo Kacey, whom she's been made to believe is her daughter - and then Kacey's real mother turns up, sees her child and takes it from Starbuck, crying and thanking her. You can almost see something inside Starbuck breaking.

It'll be very interesting to see how (or indeed whether) the people who've escaped from New Caprica will re-integrate into life aboard the starship. Chances are there are fairly deep psychological scars, and it's doubtful they'll heal from one episode to the next.

P.S.: You gotta love Gaeta's bitter quip to the quivering Baltar: "He believed in the dream of Gaius Baltar. The good life. Booze, pills, hot and cold running interns..."

Battlestar Galactica fans everywhere are full of questions after BSG's third season finale which revealed four of the final five Cylons. Although tight lipped on the details, Executive Producer Ron Moore assures us that answers are coming in Season 4.

But I can't wait. I've come up my own theory about the final five Cylons. I'll forewarn everyone right now that this theory is far fetched. I'm not really basing this on anything, but my own imagination.

I think that the final five Cylons are from Earth. Earth was the 13th colony, right. Why couldn't it come up with the same technology?

I think that the humans on Earth also developed Cylons. And I'm guessing they did it much earlier than the other 12 colonies. I believe that the relationship between the Cylons and the humans on Earth have evolved (maybe not without their share of conflict along the way) to a point of peaceful, integrated coexistence.

I theorize that those on Earth know about the situation in the 12 colonies (I haven't quite figured out how yet) and right before the original treaty between the Cylons and the 12 colonies was signed decided to send four (or five depending on who you believe is the last Cylon) to infiltrate the colonists. Earth leaders foresaw (whether from their own experience or some other premonitory means) the coming war and sent these Cylons as stealthy guides to guide both the colonists and the other Cylons to Earth -- and ultimately to a peaceful coexistence.

In order not to compromise their position, the Final Cylons were not even allowed to know their own identity, but as they approached Earth they "felt" their counterparts on the lost planet; hence, the Watchtower music.

In this theory, Hera is so important because she represents the first union between the colonists and their Cylons -- the first step towards unification. The Chief's baby is not as significant since his model has been interbreeding on Earth for some time.

In this hypothesis, at least one (probably D'Anna) of the original Cylons was also really one of the Earth Cylons introduced into the Cylon fleet for the same reason as those infused with the colonists.

Now, who is the final Cylon? I don't believe it's Roslin. She heard the music because of her Cylon treatment of cancer. Starbuck is still a possibility. But truly, I believe the final Cylon is on Earth and is responsible for guiding everyone to Earth.

As I said, it's just speculation. Go ahead and start poking holes in my ideas.
