Reservor Dogs (trailer original)

Katya: [angry] It’s been very nice wasting time with you, Peter Peders.

Katya: [angry] It's been very nice wasting time with you, Peter Peders.
[she leaves restaurant table]
Peters Peders: [louder, so she could still hear him] You, too, Cunt-ya.

He didn't have the gun or the mustache at the time, but Josh Brolin obviously had the ass-kicking swagger when he got into a bar brawl this weekend in Shreveport, LA. The "No Country for Old Men" actor, in Shreveport filming the Oliver Stone-helmed George W. Bush biopic, "W," was arrested, along with co-star Jeffrey Wright and members of the film's crew, after a fight broke out at the Stray Cat bar.

In the film, Brolin plays Bush and Wright plays former Secretary of State, Colin Powell. Brolin was booked and released after posting a $334 cash bond, according to the Times of Shreveport.

No word yet on who fought who or what caused the skirmish, but it made me chuckle, as most celebrity bar fights do. These drunken scraps remind us that even though they star on the big screen, walk the red carpet and exist in a realm that seems removed from us common folk, they're just as capable of getting shit-faced and thrown in the clink as the rest of us.

Here are a few more drunken brawlers for your viewing pleasure:

Image courtesy of The Smoking Gun.

Here's my boy Vince Vaughn after getting into a fight outside a bar in Wilmington, NC. While in town shooting the film "Domestic Disturbance" in 2001, he and another fave of mine, Steve Buscemi, got into a scrap that sent Vaughn to jail and Buscemi to the hospital with stab wounds. Charges against Vaughn were later dropped and both guys seemed to rebound nicely.

Image courtesy of The Smoking Gun.

Here's former "Dawson's Creek" star Josh Jackson in 2002, after getting into a drunken brawl at a hockey game in Raleigh, NC. What's up with these guys getting into it in my home state?

Apparently, Jackson got a little pickled at the Carolina Hurricanes game and tussled with a security guard.

What about you? Ever been in a really good, drunken fight? Or is there an awesome celebrity brawl I've missed? Tell it in the comments!

Remembering 28 Days: Rediscovering the Intimacy of Love

28 Days is the story of a successful New York City writer who is living in the fast lane and is everyone's favorite party girl. She shares her roller-coaster social lifestyle, hopping back and forth from dance clubs to bars and the morning after hangovers, with her boyfriend. He is handsome and magnetic, but equally attracted to life on the wild side. Life is nothing but a perpetual game of debauchery, until she gets drunk with her boyfriend on the day of her sister's wedding, commandeers her sister's wedding limousine and ends up with a 28-day stay in a substance abuse rehabilitation center.

A young urban woman who is cynical to the core, she is determined not to conform. But her experiences within the highly structured rehab setting begin to break through her carefully constructed defenses and lead her to start taking a closer look at who she might really be. Ultimately, she gradually starts to lose her deeply jaded sense of pessimism about life and begins to rediscover the possibility of having intimately loving relationships with others.

Note: I had first intended my “letters to emily” category to be a moment of reflection o

Note: I had first intended my "letters to emily" category to be a moment of reflection on the works of Emily Dickinson. After my letter to the cats, and feeling kind of inspired by Henry Rollins (I know!), I decided to make it more of an open letter to different people, places, things...

So, on to the letter.

Dear John Malkovich,

No. I realize that too many of us have left you with the impression that you are a stellar actor, but it is time that I speak up. I will give you Empire of the Sun, but let's not kid ourselves, Christian Bale stole that film and made it amazing. And I like Being John Malkovich because it is completely absurd, makes fun of my home New Jersey, and who the hell would ever want to be you anyway? (Again, that's why it's funny). Let's look at some other roles that have generally won you praise: Of Mice and Men. Personally, I get kind of annoyed when some actor is told they play retarded well. I like Sean Penn, but really? Is he really that memorable for I Am Sam? What about The Assassination of Richard Nixon? What about his directing? And I love What's Eating Gilbert Grape, but not because of Leonardo DiCaprio. I mean, he is good in it, but there's also the story that kinda carries the whole film, not to mention Johnny Depp.

Okay, you may also deserve some credit for In The Line of Fire. But you did play a psycho in that. And in Con-Air. You seem well-suited for those roles. That odd shaped head, somewhat sweet and thick voice with a hint of a high-pitch. Again, though, for Con-Air at least, someone else stole the show. In this case it was Steve Buscemi. The man played with Barbie dolls and talked about wearing a human head as a hat. And he wins the prize when it comes to funny looking. The Coen Brothers went with that.

Let me get to what prompted this letter in the first place: Knockaround Guys. Here is a movie, pretty bad mind you, about a group of mob kid friends who decide they want to join the family business. You, as you may or may not know, play the uncle of the main kid, played by Barry Pepper. To hear you attempt a Brooklyn accent and end up sounding like some kid whose just watched A Bronx Tale and is trying really hard to imitate what they assume to be the accent of everyone in this city, is beyond sad. Please, just...no. I have an idea, why not do what you have done in other movies that require an accent, don't do it. In The Messenger you kept your same old John Malkovich voice, despite the efforts of others to sound French. (Vincent Cassel is French, so don't even start the comparisons there). Even in Eragon, which I am admitting to seeing, despite the fact that it is one of the worst movies ever, you did not feel the need to use any accent. Then again, you really did not feel the need to act either. Did you know right away that you were going to treat that performance like practice for other crap roles? Did you just see it as some extra cash? Or were you fooled into thinking it would be good like those of us who shelled out $10 because, like us, you saw Rachel Weisz and Jeremy Irons in the cast and thought "hey, there is no way this can suck!" ? Is that what happened, John? You can be honest. You should know that a god cast does not mean a good film. The Messenger is a great example of that. And you should know that just because everyone says it is good, does not mean it is good. Gone Baby Gone, hello! That movie was a waste of my life. And I cannot get that time back.

Here's the thing, you are in some post-productions that I want to see, and I will see them. But I need you to know that my attending Burn After Reading has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with The Coen Brothers. And when I buy my ticket for The Mutant Chronicles it is because the futuristic movie is about a guy who fights NecroMutants.

In the 80+ DVD movies I have, and I’m sure that is a small collection (we still have VHS

In the 80+ DVD movies I have, and I'm sure that is a small collection (we still have VHS' too, and each boy has their own collection of DVD's. But, in mine alone, out of eighty movies that range from Schindler's List to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes, and the "feel good romp" of Mystic River, thirteen of these movies have Nicholas Cage in them. I told you this was an Extremely Biased Film Review. My passion for Nicholas Cage, and his acting knows very little bounds and has only recently been replaced by Viggo Mortensen, who I only have two DVD's of.

There are some actors who just have to act, even if the movie is a stinker. But, then again, in whose opinion? So here are my thoughts on the Cage movies I own. Starting alphabetically and some in more depth than others:

8mm: Very good movie and performance by Cage. It is, however a dark and disturbing movie about an "obsessive search for the truth." Cage handles it well and you walk away haunted. I highly recommend it.

Adaptation: Cage does a good job of becoming a weak, simpering, overweight fool twin. Why in God's name he would want this is beyond me. This movie doesn't deserve either Cage or Meryl Streep. It cons you into buying it because it was by the creator of Being John Malkovich, an excellent film. The best thing about Adaptation is the cover photo of Cage's face on a broken flower pot.

Captain Corelli's Mandolin: Okay one of the top Chick-Flick, wish you were his co-star, movies of all times. And, he learned to play the Mandolin for it. It's a great romantic story with a sexy lead. Men ask, why the heck is Nicholas Cage considered sexy? I don't know guys, maybe it's the fact that he doesn't hesitate to throw himself into everything he does. He's not afraid to look foolish or dance or learn to play the Mandolin. I don't want men fighting over me. I want a man who keeps living life to the fullest, without shame or fear of looking stupid, and Cage has got that down. YUMMM!

City of Angels: One of my absolute favorite movies of all time. Talk about living life to the fullest. There is a line in this movie about rather living a life with you than an eternity without you. Wouldn't we all give anything to have that kind of love? In this movie, the Protagonist gives up immortality for the woman he loves. When you are watching this film you realize that maybe you haven't been living life to the fullest, yourself. Close your eyes and tell me what a pomegranite tastes like, but tell me with your sense of touch and sound and eyes, not your taste. Just watch it and you will understand.

Con Air: Why I had to buy this is unknown, because Starz plays it about every three months. It's a movie that when nothing else is on, including Two and a Half Men, you can watch it over and over and over and over. And, I have. Cage looks fantastic in long curly hair and jeans. He hasn't overdone the accent. You want him fighting for your friends and coming home to you. There are some great other actors in this: John Cusack, John Malkovich, and an awsome performance by Steve Buscemi.

The Family Man: This is a movie for when a group of friends are half watching. You won't mind them talking during it. It's good and funny. He goes from being a wealthy womanizing bachelor to a married man. He learns to love his kids and get more out of life than the almighty dollar. Just average stuff.

Guarding Tess: I have no idea why I like this, but I do. Shirley MacLane does an excellent job as a crudgy retired first lady; escaping her guards and giving Cage a hard time. He's a reluctant body guard but when the chips are down, he's there for her.

LORD OF WAR: Okay, notice the caps. This is my vote for Oscar winning performance and movie. I love this movie. I think this movie should be a must see for high school kids. It's based on a real story of an actual illegal gun dealer, who was arrested a year after this was out. Cage is fantastic in it. The story is worth the watch. I don't know why it didn't get better reviews, but it deserved them.

Matchstick Men: Billed as an "ingenious, wonderful movie." Not to me. Cage's take on an Obsessive Compulsive does not come close to Tony Shalub's, in Monk. But, then on the back it says he is "agoraphobe, a germaphone" so obviously the acting did not say anything clear to me. It's an okay movie, when you are sick, have chicken soup and are too tired to read.

Red Rock West: Here's a little known Cage movie that I fell in love with. He's just so human in this movie. It's a great story about a guy who has one thing after another that literally brings him back to a town he would just as soon leave; and for his own safety he needs to leave. It will keep you guessing and entertain you too.

The Rock: Okay, if you get Starz, this is the other Cage movie that plays every three months. Sean Connery and Ed Harris are in it with him and they are a great team of actors. I love the opening scene where Cage, as a bored chemical weapons specialist, sits making a rube goldberg contraption to set fire to a toy Hula Dancer. I've watched The Rock a bazillion times (on Starz) and enjoy it every time.

The Weather Man: This one is so good that I barely remember what it is. That's NOT a good sign, especially when Michael Caine is in it too. The billing, to get you to watch says it is part, American Beauty and part About Schmidt. Well, that says it all. It's a waste of time movie. Must have been in the $5.00 bin. I think Cage mailed in his performance too.

Windtalkers: I thought about making this it's own Blog. I do think that Cage deserved an Oscar for this movie. He plays damaged soldier, brave soldier, caring soldier, human soldier excellently. It's all those things and more. Highly recommend!

Despite booze, drugs, and innuendo, each manipulator holds their own, delivering countless barbs of potent wisdom that initially feel well-meaning. Buscemi constantly keeps us guessing as to what's real, fabricated, or a mix of the two, and the leads perform this dance marvelously. Interview is the kind of throwback theatrical movie where two characters slither around the truth, worm into sensitive spots, and unleash a plague of vindictiveness on each other - the last wo(man) standing wins. I haven't seen the Theo van Gogh original, but Buscemi's re-visioning feels altogether American - the culture of celebrity seems a perfect bedfellow for the corroding ethics of high end political paparazzi.

Today was Philadelphia's Bi-Annual Punk Rock Flea Market.

Which means saddle up and by some crap your psyched on! I bought a super old school plastic skateboard for 2, a hotdog on a surfboard for 1, and 3 GWAR VHS tapes for 8. I went with IRA card holding member Andrew. Also took a bunch of artists cards so I can check them out later on the internet. It was a well needed and excellent source of smiling at strangers and striking up fun conversations. Plus buddies Herbin Shellinbaaacka was selling millions of Audio circles. neighborhood Cute brigade Leah and Juli set up a Scrapple fort plus cute baby clothes.

Buddy Brian tried selling Tony Hawk 3 (is he out of his fucking mind.) I also met 2 great gals at the Yelp Reviews table.

Well didn't fully meet, more like chatted with. Anyway it inspired me to right this loose review on my neighborhood.
Living in the Faimount area for about 2 years has it's perks. One of which is living so close to a giant castle like prison.

If your looking for a review of the historic tours, I don't know anything about that (except the audio tour is voiced by Steve Buscemi).

However I do know there's a solid coffee shop called mugshots across the street. I find a relaxing routine in drinking coffee while sitting on the prison ledge on a nice afternoon.

Mugshots is also a free trade business with many organic options, a real guilt free establishment. Head over there and get a crush on one of the employees STAT.
There's also a great bar across the street called the Urban Saloon. To get through the door you often must be wearing sandals, a collared polo shirt, and be psyched on the new Dave album.

I'm just messing around, but seriously did you get that thing I forwarded you Karen?!

I've actually never been in there but, impressions you know . . . back to the prison. You are probably familiar with the fact that Al Capone spent time in the prison, and also of its ghost stories. However the buzz around the neighborhood recently is that there are these cars that drive through the cell blocks at night. But there not like regular cars, they like change into these robot figures, it's like their . . . Transformers (2). So get your cargo shorts on and get that blue tooth in your ear, because the guys at the Gaffer truck need more water, and the on set art directer needs a hot brick. (that's a battery for his walkie talkie.)

TERROR BEHIND THE WALLS!

Il sospetto cresce, fino all’esplosione finale.

"An Adventure As Big As Life Itself."

Big Fish is a fun and fantastic film about the life of Edward Bloom [Ewan McGregor]. As his son, Will [played by Billy Crudup], experiences his father's life through the tall tales he was told as a child, he begins to understand that his perception of his father all these years might not have been entirely accurate. And he's figuring it out while his father is on his deathbed [elder Edward Bloom played by Albert Finney] after getting a call from his mother [Jessica Lange].

This was one of those gems we wandered into because we're Tim Burton fans and we came out completely happy. The visuals were stunning, the story was quirky and fun, sometimes sad, but overall it was just infectious in it's innocence. It's a study in how, over time and retelling, any tale can turn into a legend, but the underlying message generally stays intact. Ewan McGregor does a great job playing the younger Edward Bloom in a series of fun and vivid flashbacks as Will tries to piece together who his father really was. Along the way we meet many colorful characters played by Danny DeVito, Steve Buscemi, Helena Bonham Carter, and more.

4 out of 5. If you like Tim Burton, Ewan McGregor, The Wizard of Oz, the show Pushing Daises or all of the above, you'll love it.

Add'l Info: Released: Jan 4, 2004 • Runtime: 125 minutes • Rated PG-13 for a fight scene, some images of nudity and a suggestive reference

Mr.Blue desaparece no meio daquela confusão toda. Grande parte do filme é passado neste local.

"Me Tarzan, You Jane!"

Uau!

Te pego fácil, no laço!"

The political journalist Pierre Peters (Steve Buscemi) has the, in his eyes, dreadful task of interviewing the slasher-film actress Katya (Sienna Miller). He is completely unprepared whereas she is entirely unmotivated to do the interview. The two of them somehow manage to find a way of communicating. They like and hate each other at the same time, they fight, they kiss, they cry.

Most of the film is set in Katya's incredible loft apartment. I find it fascinating that the relationship between the characters can hold the audience's attention even though it is mainly two people in one room. Plus it's more or less filmed in real time. But it just works. It is a captivating, amusing and intriguing story.

Steve Buscemi is as brilliant as ever. He is so beautifully eccentric that it is hard not to love him. The stunning Sienna Miller gives a great performance as this spoiled but surprisingly clever starlet and her American accent is excellent.

The film, directed by Buscemi himself, is actually a remake (or tribute) to Theo van Gogh's Dutch version.
