However, beyond just efficient data centers, before the end of the year, two of its data centers "will run on 100% recycled water, and by 2010 [Google] expects recycled water to provide 80% of [their] total water consumption." They even created a website dedicated to "sustainable computing" which outlines its green mission and Google's commitment to being carbon neutral as a company. Will this mean that Larry and Sergey will be buying carbon offsets for each trip they take aboard the Google jet?

Check out details of Google's greening efforts here.

Highlighting the Gphone's concept of "Mobility", the Googlers: Larry Page and Sergey Brin tried to impress everyone at the launch with the rollerskates. Take a look:

Look, fundamentalists, it’s not any fun to make fun of you when you do the ridiculous shit I s

Look, fundamentalists, it's not any fun to make fun of you when you do the ridiculous shit I say you're going to do. You leave NO ROOM for satire!

When Google came out against Proposition 8, the anti-gay bigot amendment which would rescind the right to marry from gay and lesbian Californians, I put up a silly post with the title "Fundamentalist Christians are never allowed to learn anything again!" In that post, I said the following:

From now on, Fundamentalist dumbfucks will have to boycott Google, due to the buttsecks, and use the yet-to-be-formed search engine “Conservatardia.” It’s sure to provide ignorant unscientific ‘tard information for ignorant unscientific ‘tards. YAY-boo.

Take that, Fundamentalist hick hate machines! Boycott it, boycott it, please!

I WAS KIDDING.

But wouldn't you know it, one of the kings of the Christianist wingnuts, Randy Thomasson of the "Campaign for Children and Families" is urging his sheep-le to boycott Google, Pacific Gas & Electric (the power company, yes), Levi's, and Steven Spielberg. So funny:

Randy Thomasson of the Campaign for Children and Families says young billionaires Sergey Brin and Larry Page (Google co-founder) have "replaced all notions of God's truth by worshiping money as god."

"You might have noticed that their website...actually avoids...Thanksgiving, diminishes holidays like the Fourth of July, gives sarcastic tribute to Easter and Christmas, and actually elevates more pagan-type holidays to their liking," he points out. "So, it's no surprise whatsoever."

Thomasson is calling on supporters of traditional marriage to take action with their pocketbooks. "There needs to be a response from people who will say, 'I'm not going to put a dime of my money or time into businesses that are attacking the sacred institution of marriage,'" he argues.

And the pro-family activist has some suggestions on how to do that. "Don't buy Levis. Don't use AT&T. Don't use Google," states Thomasson. "We've got to take a stand, and our money is generally how we vote with our conscience -- at least we need to start thinking that way."

Of course, Google acknowledges all holidays. Randy Thomasson is pretty much hallucinating.

In another article, Thomasson is quoted hating on that mean old Jew Steven Spielberg:

"I don't even want to see Steven Spielberg movies anymore because that man donated $100,000 for defeat of marriage between a man and a woman."

Thomasson also privately promises himself not to ogle Brad Pitt's hot nipples anymore, due to Pitt's $100,000 donation.

What's so funny is that these dumbasses actually seem to believe that their own marriages are being affected by marriage equality. Not funny haha, but funny sad-stupid.

Okay, since both of those articles come from OneNewsNow, they have (YAY) comments sections. Let's see what America's Greatest Geniuses have to say about this:

"I have been a Google user for almost as long as they have existed. Used Google mail and their calendar for several years now as well. I will be using a different search engine, and am in the process of researching a different email and web based calendar. Kudos to all taking a stand!"

"Bye Bye Google, AT&T and Levi perverts - I will spend my money with decent and moral companies. McD lost mine and most I know money the day we learned of their perversion also."

I am wearing Lee Jeans at Wendy's right now! Take that!

"There is an alternative search engine which benefits Christians it is called, Goodsearch.com, I believe it is sponsored by yahoo. I got this from a prophetic e-mail I receive daily. It's been awhile since I used it last because google is plastered everywhere. But I will force myself now. Aol pushes google. I've been staying away from McDonalds for a long time now. It's is a pity shame when major coroporation get involved in people's lifestyles. So now we can surmise where the homosexual movement gets all their money?"

A pity shame indeed! God, this next one is amazing:

That's right, boycott the corporations that promote anti-Biblical teachings, promoting immorality, while silencing the truth of the Bible, like Google. I stopped using Google years ago, when they refused to run ads from anybody opposed to homosexual activism. I don't even use the word, "Google," to keep them from getting the influence on people I work with. Yahoo! it. I don't wear Levi's over their pro-homosexual activism, it's Wranglers for me. I don't wear Nike shoes, for the same reasons, it's New Balance. As much as possible, when you hear of a corporation joining the immoral opposition in the culture wars, join with the good guys, not the bad guys. Did I mention no more McDonald's for lunch, etc... Fight the good fight and do not grow weary of doing good."

Do you hear that?! I don't even SAY Google! I get all my jeans at Wal-Mart, and I wear New Balances, because they are SO cute. Most gay guys wear them when running! OH NO! THROWING SHOES IN TRASH NOW!

These people are amazing.

So...I think it's time for a municipal water supply company to come out against Proposition 8. The little fundamentalist retard problem might just take care of itself.

Dagegen hat Sergey Brin im offiziellen Blog des Google-Konzerns die offizielle Haltung des Unternehmens veröffentlicht: "While we respect the strongly-held beliefs that people have on both sides of this argument, we see this fundamentally as an issue of equality. We hope that California voters will vote no on Proposition 8 -- we should not eliminate anyone's fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love."

The company 23andMe was in the news thrice this month:

cutting the price of its service by more than a half

organizing a celebrity spit party

the husband of the 23andMe co-founder Anne Wojcicki, better known as Google co-Founder Sergey Brin, revealed he is at risk for Parkinson's Disease, as determined by....23andMe.

Coincidence or part of a strategic plan?

23andMe is a 'direct to consumer genetic testing' company that as 23andMe puts it: "democratizes personal genetics". The lowering of the service price from $999 to $399 brings personalized genomics within the range of many.

What do you get for those $399? A spit kit, you do your thing, send the tube to a certified lab, which analyzes your saliva for more than a half-million points (called SNPs) scattered across the 23 pairs of chromosomes you have (hence 23andMe), as well as your mitochondrial DNA. 23andMe shows the digital data and gives you information on certain traits and diseases. 23andMe also gives information on your ancestry and compares your DNA to your relative's and friend's-genes, if you want to share that knowledge with them. With your genes in their database you help 23andMe to perform more research for new discoveries, a program called 23andWe. In fact once you sign up you cannot refuse the use your (anonymous) DNA for this purpose.

The main question is: what purpose does this serve (besides as a potential for yielding income)?

According to 23andMe the main purpose is 'for research', 'for education' and 'for fun': “It’s fun to learn about your own genome”.

In this light, we should probably see the recent event 23andMe organized: a spit party where a few hundred people were lured away from the catwalks during the Fashion Week in New York City. On the sound track of "a whole lot of love" celebrities were spitting their DNA-containing saliva in a tube (see here and here). According Guy Kawasaki, who report on it on his blog (see here),

"even Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell were there providing their spit, but their handlers wouldn’t let me take a picture. I found this ironical: Giving DNA was okay but not a picture."

The aim for which Sergey Brin let 23andMe test his DNA was less funny. As Sergey (whos mother has Parkinson) explains in his brand new blog:

(.....) Nonetheless it is clear that I have a markedly higher chance of developing Parkinson's in my lifetime than the average person. In fact, it is somewhere between 20% to 80% depending on the study and how you measure. At the same time, research into LRRK2 looks intriguing (both for LRRK2 carriers and potentially for others).

Thus this shows a 3rd aim: diagnostic?!
Formally 23andMe denies there is a diagnostic purpose (in part, surely, because the company doesn't want to antagonize the FDA, which strictly regulates diagnostic testing for disease). However, 23andme does give information on your risk profile for certain diseases, including Parkinson.

In addition, 23andMe encourages the formation of networks of people sharing the same traits.

"If you want to have a community around psoriasis," Ms Wojcicki said, "we'd like to be able to allow you to form a psoriasis-specific community." (see New York Times article)

Psoriasis-specific community when you only have the genes that may enhance the risk of getting psoriasis??

That sounds like condemning you to a psoriasis patient already?!

Then lets discuss the following burning question: how well does 23andMe predict that you will get the disease?

Even the LRRK2-gene data of Mr. Brin aren't that conclusive. A marked higher chance of 20% to 80% is often misconceived as meaning that Sergey's chance of getting Parkison is 20-80%, or "he will almost get the disease for sure". As explained by the Gene Sherpa in his excellent post on this subject (see here) it only means that the LRRK2-mutation increases the normal chance of Americans/Europeans getting Parkinson from 2-5% to 4-10% at the most (the chance is less than doubled). Furthermore LRRK2 isn't the most crucial gene for getting Parkinson.

23andMe has chosen to relate personal health info only to common diseases and common genes. Thus whether you have an enhanced or lowered risk for breast cancer (normal 1 out of 8 women) is determined by 2 (not very predictive) SNPs associated with Breast Cancer, but not by determining BRCA1/2 mutations that are highly predictive for breast cancer, but rare in the entire (western) population .

Although 24andMe explicitly mentions that the tests are for non-diagnostic purposes, it is hard to imagine that people will see it otherwise. But:

Most genes are only weakly predisposing

Often multiple genes are working in concert in a difficult to predict way (seldom one gene-one disease)

The environment and chance also play an important role.

Thus the value of these fun predictions is low, but how does it affect people that think they are prone to having a disease? For some it might be reason to adjust their lifestyle (but then, what is the chance you really change "your destiny"), others may get fixed on their presumptive future disease, confused, or depressed. It is not without reason that genetic screening is usually restricted to people with high risks, when a disease can be predicted accurately (without too many false positives and negatives), something can be done about it (prevention or treatment), and only as part of a genetic consultation by professionals.

Why? Well, because Google has come out in opposition to Proposition 8, the bigot-fucker amendment on California's ballot which would rescind the right to marry from ALL of California's citizens, leaving it for only those who were born heterosexual. Sergey Brin, one of the multi-gazillionaires who runs Google, posted the following:

As an Internet company, Google is an active participant in policy debates surrounding information access, technology and energy. Because our company has a great diversity of people and opinions -- Democrats and Republicans, conservatives and liberals, all religions and no religion, straight and gay -- we do not generally take a position on issues outside of our field, especially not social issues. So when Proposition 8 appeared on the California ballot, it was an unlikely question for Google to take an official company position on.

However, while there are many objections to this proposition -- further government encroachment on personal lives, ambiguously written text -- it is the chilling and discriminatory effect of the proposition on many of our employees that brings Google to publicly oppose Proposition 8. While we respect the strongly-held beliefs that people have on both sides of this argument, we see this fundamentally as an issue of equality. We hope that California voters will vote no on Proposition 8 -- we should not eliminate anyone's fundamental rights, whatever their sexuality, to marry the person they love.

From now on, Fundamentalist dumbfucks will have to boycott Google, due to the buttsecks, and use the yet-to-be-formed search engine "Conservatardia." It's sure to provide ignorant unscientific 'tard information for ignorant unscientific 'tards. YAY-boo.

Take that, Fundamentalist hick hate machines! Boycott it, boycott it, please!

(Don't worry, you won't suffer any loss of knowledge, because you are already too stupid to use search engines, ha ha ha.)

Açıklamada, fikirlerin Google'a sunulabileceği sürenin 20 Ekimde dolacağı kaydedildi.

Our favourite search engine turns 10 today. To commemorate this milestone, Google have put up a new logo, designed in the font of the first-ever logo and also have kickstarted a pretty nifty initiative. Named Project 10100, its a call for ideas which can change the world by helping as many people as possible. After a shortlisting and voting process, the 5 best ideas will be chosen and Google will help bring these ideas into reality by providing funding to the tune of $10 Million. Read more about Project 10^100 here.

Apart from the announcement on the official Google blog, there also is a neat webpage outlining Google's timeline, right from how Larry met Sergey to Google's 1st employee to its 1st April Fool joke to the launch of several key products such as Picasa and GMail and Chrome to its 10th birthday announcement. Check out the randomly-displayed informative tidbits, interesting pictures and videos and lots of statistics over at Google's Tenth Birthday page or if you want to explore the timeline right from the beginning, head to the start page.

Further to reports that Google founder Sergey Brin has written a blog revealing intimate details about his personal health worries, executive communications strategist Mindy Gibbins-Klein, a.k.a The Book Midwife, is challenging other CEO’s to follow suit if they want to get up close and personal with their clients and other followers, but only if they are prepared to write it themselves.

“Vulnerability sells and more CEO's should drop the slick facade and try it”, explains Gibbins-Klein, who suggests that there is nothing wrong with an executive like Brin sharing something personal on a blog, as it will most certainly be seen as attractive and endearing, and will probably turn into more trust, and more revenues.

Gibbins-Klein argues that the problem with most big companies is that the customer gets little to no exposure to the top exec and his or her views and that it is very difficult for an assistant, marketing staff or ghost blogger to write the real personal blogs, which are an outpouring of emotion and sharing of the CEO’s personal experience and not just an marketing exercise.

An example of an authentic executive blogger is Bill Marriott, chief executive of the hotel chain. His message comes completely from the heart, and is exactly in keeping with the feel and tone that Marriott customers have come to expect”, says Gibbins-Klein, who is also a published author and international speaker.

“And in the political arena, we have seen Barack Obama take control of the blogosphere, pulling in more loyal supporters than his rivals and raising an unprecedented amount of campaign money in record time, again by writing and speaking from the heart and sharing concerns and vulnerability as well as the good news”, adds Gibbins-Klein.
