The movie looks and feels ridiculous in notion to some who have yet to be exposed to the issues surrounding this fact that has become part of regular business in the USA. Some fear the same situation could happen in Canada depending on how Canadian voters, vote on October 14th.

The movie was written by John Cusack, Mark Leyner, Jeremy Pisker to help reach even more people with regard to the unethical business of war profiteering, being disguised as corporate outsourcing of military actions/services.

 

Public/civil services such as policing and military (as well as jails and disaster relief) have been handed over to private for profit corporations that are not government regulated, yet are government funded with tax payer dollars. Some of the arguments against these private corporations are that they don't do the job they claim they can do. Along with allegations of human rights violations and war profiteering, the country in this case USA, has spent even more money funding these corporations than had they done the job with the military/policing structures that were originally in place. These are just a few of the complaints against the government's decision to release these vital civil services to unregulated corporations. Many informed Americans are looking for ways to have their governments reverse the situation before it becomes even more disastrous. It's said that the human rights violations at current out weigh any positive argument to have contracts with these companies.

Review written by Me.

Hilary Duff was perfect in her part, as were all the other actors including John Cusack, an amazing onscreen force as usual (everyone loved the fight scenes). My group of movie goers were ages 40, 35, 22, 21, 20, 18, 16, and 3- 15 year olds. There was some hushed discussion once they realized Yonika Babeyeah was Duff; The kids even let me talk some politics with them on the way home from the movie and afterwards. All liked the movie, the boys (3- 15year olds loved it!) One still quotes certain parts... it was a great way to start some conversations about the bigger issues going on in the world, that would have seemed too deep and confusing otherwise. Having War, Inc. to relate to made it easy to open up the discussions that not only covered what the movie was about but other idea's as well that will hopefully have a positive effect on how they see themselves and their responsibilities in the world.

Recalling certain parts of the movie during our conversations kept everyone interested and they even asked questions, some I couldn't answer but at least they were thinking about big world issues and how being their best could help make changes. It was the weekend and it had just begun, so the converstion ended but hopefully not for long. I'm looking forward to getting the DVD and finding the answers to those questions that were asked that I was unable to answer or give an opinion on.

One morning, after he had finished his meditation, the old man opened his eyes and saw a scorpion floating helplessly in
the water. As the scorpion was washed closer to the tree, the old man quickly stretched himself out on one of the long
roots that branched out into the river and reached out to rescue the drowning creature. As soon as he touched it, the
scorpion stung him. Instinctively the man withdrew his hand. A minute later, after he had regained his balance, he
stretched himself out again on the roots to save the scorpion. This time the scorpion stung him so badly with its
poisonous tail that his hand became swollen and bloody and his face contorted with pain.

En la portada se distingue fácilmente a Scorpion, Raiden y Sub-Zero por el lado de Mortal Kombat, y a Batman, la Mujer Maravilla y Superman representando a los superhéroes.

No me gustĂł mucho, se me hizo sencilla para lo que es, y me sorprende que hayan puesto a Superman hasta el fondo, pero no importa, a final de cuentas el juego es lo relevante.

Scientists have identified a peptide in the scorpions venom that will bind to the membranes of cancerous cells, but leave healthy cells alone. The reason for this is that the cancer cells have a specific receptor on their membranes that healthy cells don't have. So the theory is that by attatching radioactive iodine isotopes to it, the peptide could deliver huge doses of radiation directly to the tumors. In a clinical trial with subjects with inoperable brain cancer, those who got the higher dose of the radioactive peptide lived, on average, 3 months longer than those who got a lower dose.

The scientists also just began a new clinical trial that will determine whether the peptide also could bind to secondary metastases, and not just the primary tumor. 

Sounds promising.

I remember being awed by this simple, yet beautifully descriptive account of a scorpion self-stinging itself to avoid an encroaching ringlet of fire in which it had been placed by the cruel hopes of amusement.  The metaphor is original:  the conscience as a self-destructive agent upon the self to avoid pain.  The final three lines give narrative drama to the scorpion sting, accumulating caesuras to burst like flames into the final judgement, "death!"

Logo após anunciar que o jogo Dead Space já está pronto e será lançado dia 14 de Outubro ( portanto faltam 13 dias e contando...), a EA disse que quem comprar o jogo até duas semanas após o lançamento (até o dia 28/10 mais ou menos) terá a oportunidade de baixar uma armadura específica para cada console, X360 ou PS3, aparentemente deixando de lado os pc gamers...

As armaduras não serão apenas bonitas como também oferecerão resistência melhorada e mais espaço no inventário do personagem. Donos de X360 poderão baixar a Elite Suit via Live e os donos de PS3 baixarão a Obsidian Suit na Playstation Network.

Today it was announced that lead guitarist Tad Kubler is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital for Pancreatitis. While pancreatitis is generally caused by excessive alcohol consumption it could've been any number of things. A useful mnemonic device for remembering the causes of acute pancreatitis is; 'GET SMASHED', that is:

  • Trauma
  • Steroids
  • Mumps
  • Autoimmune causes
  • Scorpion venom
  • Hyperlipidaemias

  • Basically his pancreas is inflamed and it'll be an unpleasant few days until it gets resolved. A combination of intravenous fluids, antibiotics, and medication will be used to relieve the pain. she was stung by a very venomous bark scorpion.  she tried to do another run, bless her heart, but it was apparently quite painful so we had to leave.  i never make such a big fuss when i get a thorn in my paw.  she's scared to go back, but we're gonna give it a shot.

i had to have a bath before class last week because i was supposed to have a pet therapy gig the next day.  here's what i look like when my fur hasn't completely dried...

i look smaller when my fur is wet.  big deal.  i'll let you know how class goes tonight!  hopefully the mama won't make a scene again!

Cleo almost had rabbit for dinner last night. You know how cats suddenly get alert when they spot something interesting--with Cleo it's usually a grasshopper or cricket or moth. So she was on the patio, doing her usual sniffing and investigating every object that moved, when she crouched, her muscles tense, and froze, all except for her tail that swished back and forth like windshield wipers. Slowly she crept over to a shrub and stuck her nose underneath. Since I had nothing better to do and was bored, waiting for Josie and Jen to come over for the night, I went outside (I'd been watching Cleo through the French doors), knelt, and peeked under the bush, too, expecting to see a praying mantis or scorpion. Here's what I saw.

 It is not that I think customers are never right.  Certainly, there are some instances when restaurant staff makes mistakes or boldly lies to cover their own asses.  I am guilty of both.  I pass the blame and lie about dishes all the time.  Ask me where our oysters are from, or if the blueberries are local, or if the soup is good – I will lie right to your face.  My answers will be, “Simpson Bay.  Oh, you haven’t heard of it?  It’s a small by near Kachemak Bay it stays just cold enough to get a nice thick shelled oyster.”  “They are local blueberries.  We get them from a small supplier who picks them wild, we do freeze them after we get them to aid in their breaking down for the blueberry crumble” “The French Onion soup is excellent, it is made with a veal stock, fresh onions, leeks, shallots and garlic and topped with house made cruts and an artisanal Swiss cheese, then fired until it melts together like leaves pressed to a wet walkway on a brisk autumn day, only gooier.”  When in fact, I don’t know where the oysters are from, the blueberries come frozen in a big box from FSA [Food Services of America] and the French Onion soup is at once bland and gross.

And, I’m not ashamed to admit that I make mistakes.  Now and again, I’ll hit the wrong button when ordering on the computer or put the wrong dressing on your salad.  If I have made a mistake, I will know and I will do as much as I can to make it up to you.  I’ll fix the mistake immediately – making it my top priority and furthermore will buy you dessert.  You will be vindicated.  On the other hand, if you are wrong, or you are lying, I will know.  Sure, I’ll fix the problem, but after that you are on your own.  I will move on in a professional attempt to cut my losses.  I’ve served enough people to understand that some just want there to be a problem.  Nothing I do will remedy this.  So, I will make you my last priority and will no longer be polite and helpful.  Bitchy, I know, but if you notice your server being nicer to their other tables than they are to you – it is probably your fault. 
            Interesting side note – you aren’t the only person in the restaurant, even when you are the only person in the dining room.  The server should not be constantly going from your table with things to do.  If you want another drink, coordinate with the rest of your table so the server can make one trip to get drinks, not seven trips to get seven different people, seven drinks at one table.  Be aware of the other tables that your server is working, often one table will be more demanding than the rest.  If you take the courtesy to get your entire table ready for the server and express your understanding of the server’s busyness, you will become their favorite table and will get much better service.

But, to return to the idea that the customer is always right fallacy.  One thing that I’ve noticed that customers want is control of the food.  This is a product of the fallacy.  A restaurant put a great deal of work into its menu.  Recipes are invented, borrowed, stolen, and tested, tried, tweaked until they are en exactly as the chef wants them.  The chef then trains his cooks to cook them exactly as he/she wants them.  The customers’ suggestions are not wanted or taken into consideration.  If you don’t like a chef’s recipe, you are a Styrofoam mouthed moron, in the chef’s opinion.  Chefs don’t want to hear that you think they overdid it with the cilantro.  That being said, if you don’t like a chef’s dishes, don’t eat at that restaurant anymore.  THAT being said, food is or was alive.  So, not every piece of veal will be as tender as the one you had last time, nor will every blood orange have the tang that takes you back to your college days backpacking through Italy with your guide/lover Vinchenso.  Deal with it. 

However, if something is wrong – by all means let your server know.  Hair in the food?  It happens.  But let’s be honest with ourselves, it is not that gross.  Hair is unavoidable, mostly due to gravity and the fact that we don’t hold plates over our heads as we prepare, carry and eat them.  Hair is bound to get in your food sometimes; it may even get into your mouth.  You can’t get Aids from it; it won’t make you puke (but don’t put a horse hair in a cigarette and smoke it…I hear that’s a good way to put a rut on someone).   Anyway, in most cases the hair is yours, or your husband’s, isn’t it?  A bug in your food may be a turn off, but again it isn’t such an awful thing.  First of all, unless it is a live scorpion or black widow spider, it isn’t going to hurt you.  Secondly, it says absolutely nothing about the sanitary conditions of the restaurant.  The bug may have come in the front door with you.  The back door of the kitchen is opened and closed often, bugs find their way in…just like in your house.  One bug doesn’t make an infestation.  Besides, bugs are everywhere – they out number people and restaurants by billions; every now and again, one is bound to end up on your plate.  Get over it.  You eat bugs without knowing all the time.   Where do you think your food comes from?  Outside!  That’s where bugs live! Your food is their food.  They just don’t have the sense to dress up nicely and pay for their meals.

If one of these things happen, we will be happy to make you a new dish.  In turn you should be happy to receive a new dish.  Do not say that you want something else if you have one of these problems.  Do not say that it has ruined your precious, delicate appetite.  These responses do not match the problems.  You can’t get a different dish because, now you are double dipping.  “I just wanted to try a bit of this and a bit of that, so I’ll complain about something and get them both for the price of one.” Or  “My appetite is ruined so now that I’ve eaten, I expect to not have to pay.”  If something happens with your meal, take it in stride.  Get a fresh dish, but don’t expect it to be free. 

On a side note, if you do get something taken off the bill for whatever reason.  Or if the restaurant sends out something, “on the house,” that should be considered in the tip.  The server has done the work of prepping it and bringing it out, so they should be compensated as though the item were still on the bill.  Furthermore, any mistakes or accidents of food preparation should not be taken out on the server.  Their tip should not suffer for bad food.  Bad service, yes.  But bad food is not their responsibility.

One of my favorite video games, Mortal Kombat", collides with the best that the "DC Universe" can muster. Now this game has the potential of being a One-Of-A-Kind experience, if Midway gets it right. I feel that it can beat all kinds of records for video games. Remember this blog when the ratings finally come out. From the trailer, it looks AWESOME. I have an XBOX 360, so that is going to be my platform of choice.

I have really enjoyed every game that midway has made for the Mortal Kombat series, but in later years, they have had a little trouble keeping my attention for the replay action after I have beaten the game. But 2 different storylines is an added replayability magnet. Hopefully there will be online play as well. I have heard rumors that there will not be any Finishing Moves, at least, Stage Finishes. Finishing Moves are an essential part of the Mortal Kombat games. Although 50,000 button presses to accomplish 1 Finishing Move really does not appeal to me, so I hope Midway makes the finishers happen after a single button press after the winner has been announced. 1 button finishers will definitely add replayability to this game. And keep in mind that on a standard video game controller, 500,000 button mashes to "Finish Him" really turns me off. Maybe I should email Midway and see if that idea is plausible? Well anyway, I seriously cannot wait for this game to arrive, and I will be one of the first to pre-order it when it becomes available. The more characters on both sides, the better, just remember the finishers should be 1 button. LOL!!! :)

Just to let everyone know what's going on, lest you all think I've been abducted by aliens or something, I thought I'd post this "coming soon" entry to keep let you know what to look forward to. So, coming soon...

The continuing saga of the crashed T-Rex 450. I've got all the parts necessary to put it back together. I can rebuild him. I have the technology to make him better, stronger, faster.... er, sorry. Slipping back into my old TV show archive there. Indeed, I got the parts to replace the few actually damaged things after the crash, in addition to some stuff that I'm going to relpace just for S&Gs (like the dampeners, beraings etc), but unfortunately, I couldn't save the pinion. Apparently, I DID loctite it after all, but it just plain wasn't tight enough. More unfortunately, the setscrew was pretty soft and I stripped it horribly trying to get it out, and it's not budging. I've got one more pinion that'll fit, but it's a 14 tooth and 3700+ RPM headspeed is not something I'm prepared to do on my 450.

So, I've ordered yet again from ReadyHeli and have a RevCo 13T pinion coming. I also added a set of Radix 320mm mains to that order, so there'll be a mini review of those coming up too. Additionally, I've got some Gorilla gear paddles sitting here waiting to be installed, so another mini review of those is planned.

On the 600N front, I've got all the parts needed to set up the mixture control feature of my MultiGov Pro, and just have to get the time to get everything put together and tweaked. Look for this review sometime in October. Coming up very soon (hopefully later this week) I'll have a new product review posted. The folks over at Outrage RC were kind enough to send me one of their new HyperRage 50 mufflers to review. My stock Align pipe is beginning to make a rattling noise that tells me it's about ready to start losing baffles. I'll be mounting it up and testing it out tonight, so look for the review in the next couple of days. Along with that, I'll be testing out Spektrum's flight log, which is intended to tell you the state of your radio installation and help you troubleshoot glitches and optimize your receiver and antenna installation.

More distant plans are in the works for the 600E. I'm thinking "flybarless". The guys over at InsideHeli interviewed Art form Skookum Robotics and I was intrugued. I'm planning to try out their SK360 Digital Flybar system and go flybarless on the 600E. I'm trying to find a Mikado flybarless conversion kit for the 600 but so far they're out of stock. Either I'll be doing it with that, or I'll be making my own form some spare parts. Still up in the air about making to move to A123 on the 600E, but as a winter project, I will be swapping out the 600XL stock motor and Stock Align ESC with Scorpion's new drop-in replacement when it's released.

Also, I'm lining up a new heli! Although I've been an Align pilot historically (not sponsored, just have preferred Align helis) I've decided to make a break from the norm and try somthign diferent. There is an MSH Protos in my future. If you liked the T-Rex 600 NSP build log, be sure to check out the MSH Protos build log when it's done. I'm going to try and be more thorough in my review, so if you're thinking of building a Protos, you'll have an idea of what to expect. I'll be installing a Spartan DS760 gyro as part of this build too, and will be reviewing it as well. I've already got one on my 600NSP, but I never reviewed it. I'm looking to fix that since I believe it's an excellent gyro.

Sounds like a lot, but stay tuned and bear with me. I will do my best not to disappoint you!
