Elke vakantiebestemming moet een strand hebben waar je ’s middags heerlijk kunt relaxen. Heeft Rimini dat? Volgens Karlijn wel: ‘Het strand krijgt van mij een 8.0, want het is super goed in sfeer én stijl. Je moet daar wel betalen voor het strand, maar gelukkig is er via de jongerenreisorganisaties geregeld dat je minder betaald. Als je eenmaal binnen bent, is het top: je krijgt lekkere strandbedjes waarop je in slaap kunt doezelen en de zee is prima. En…’, zegt ze lacherig, ‘je hebt natuurlijk ook een prachtig uitzicht op de Italiaanse jongens.’ Het strand verdient dus een super acht. Een tien is te hoog gegrepen, gezien een kleine ergernis van Karlijn. ‘De verkopers op het strand zijn erg vervelend. Terwijl jij je heerlijk op het strand probeert te ontspannen, komen ze één voor één langs om je wat aan te smeren: van handdoeken tot tasjes.’

Een swingende negen voor het uitgaansleven

Alle jongeren willen op vakantie een goed feestje kunnen bouwen en volgens Karlijn kan dat in Rimini uitstekend. ‘Er zijn veel uitgaansgelegenheden en de sfeer is ideaal. ’s Avonds wordt hier veel gedanst: niemand schaamt zich op de dansvloer. Een leuk barretje is Copacabana: het zit vol met Nederlanders, wat zorgt voor een gezellige sfeer en dus een goed begin van de avond.’ En welke discotheek je voor geen goud mag missen? Altromondo! ‘Het is daar te gek: goede muziek, veel optredens, waaronder die van Gigi d’Agostino. De sfeer is geweldig!’ Maar net als het strand verdient het uitgaansleven geen tien: ‘Er zijn heel veel opdringerige Italianen die achter je komen dansen, daar ben ik niet altijd van gediend. De mannen hier hebben hun ogen niet in hun zakken zitten en zij zijn dol op vakantiemeisjes. Karlijn waarschuwt dan ook alle dames: ‘Kom voor jezelf op!’

Een pittig zeven-en-een-halfje voor de activiteiten

Voor alle jongeren die iets extra’s aan hun vakantie in Rimini willen beleven, naast het standaard zon-zee-strand-feest tafereel, bieden jongerenreisorganisaties activiteiten aan. ‘Baia Imperiale vond ik een echte tegenvaller. Het geheel was super mooi, maar het is veel te groot waardoor de gezelligheid verloren gaat. Verder gaat het daar meer om gezien worden, dan om lol maken.’ Toch verdienen de activiteiten een zeven-en-een-half. Waarom? ‘De meeste uitjes zijn heel leuk, zoals een bezoek brengen aan de stad Venetië of de Republiek San Marino. En voor een middag met totale ontspanning kan je mee met de “Lazy Cruise”: super!’

Unlike Friday and Saturday, the other nights of the parade offer all of the décor and parade happenings with less of the congestion traveling to the Balboa peninsula. Once the parking has been solved for the rest is smooth sailing.

When planning your Newport Beach Holiday Cruise the topic of food and what format is the best for maximizing your experience. Sit down dinner options are popular, but we find that buffets or even hors d’ oeuvres allow for more mingling and the flexibility to move around the boat to view all of the festivities. For guests that can push the drinking envelope we can provide a drink package with a fixed cost regardless of what is consumed. Other options include drink tickets or drink credit after which the guest pays or just a cash bar option. But for the added cost the open bar is a nice gesture and a good cost/benefit decision.

A simple yet often overlooked detail that adds value during the holiday cruise and long after is pictures. There is nothing that creates more buzz than taking pictures of the parade, décor, and most importantly the guests. Pictures capture the moment and with all of the visuals and guests that are in a different element the resulting photographs take on a presence of there own. A number of companies that have come out with us were surprised and how long after the holiday season the pictures of their holiday party were the topic of discussion in the lunch room. And for those companies inviting key customers or vendors sending pictures to them even via email is a great way to tie the event into a long lasting memory. Nothing fancy is needed and sometimes is nice to have several individuals with digital cameras (recommended type) and you get a different flavor of photos from each individual.

It is fun to have quite a few properties in San Marino to look at. Today I was able to look at 4 properties, two in the $3 milion dollar price category. The summer slowness has gone away, and even in the wake of difficult financial news nationally, San Marino real estate plugs along. With sales in San Marino very slow in the last of the summer months, it was encouraging to see four properties sell this week. Good news!

950 Roxbury Road

Located South of Huntington Drive on a nice quiet street, this gorgeous two-story English Tudor is quite impressive sitting on its double 23,383 sq ft lot. Definitely the largest and most impressive property on Roxbury Road, this home has 5 bedrooms, 5 baths and 5,388 sq ft of living space. Oggi voglio parlare del mio paese, San Marino. Un paese che sta andando alla deriva, che non ha prospettive per il futuro e che non è visto di buon occhio ne dalla comunità internazionale ne dall'Italia.

La colpa di questo dissesto che ha colpito la repubblica negli ultimi dieci anni sono da imputare quasi esclusivamente ai governi che si sono succeduti negli anni. Colpevoli di non aver operato nell'interesse del paese, colpevoli di non aver avuto la lungimiranza per guidare San Marino verso il futuro e colpevoli di appartenere ad una casta (autoreferenziale e trasversale) la quale, per il mantenimento del potere, ha sacrificato l'ottimo status di cui godeva San Marino.

Un punto su cui vorrei concentrarmi, come potete dedurre dal titolo, è l'indipendenza energetica di San Marino. San Marino è al 100% dipendente da altri paesi per quanto concerne l'energia, il gas, l'acqua potabile ed i rifiuti.

Se un giorno si incrinasse anche minamanete il rapporto con l'Italia e questa, decidesse di chiudere i rubinetti e stacciare i trattati di collaborazione, San Marino sprofonderebbe rapidamente in un regime di caos. Niente elettricità, rifiuti per le strade ed addio anche all'acqua potabile che arriva nelle nostre case.

Ma anche volendo essere ottimisti, e quindi presumendo che i rapporti con l'Italia siano sempre buoni ci sono da considerare altri fattori, indipendenti dall'Italia, dall'europa e, talvolta, dal resto del mondo:

Il petrolio è oltre i 100 dollari al barile e tende ai 200, le risorse petrolifere mondiali sono in esaurimento e comunque sono per la maggiorparte in territori con governi ostili ed estremisti che potrebbero da un giorno all'altro bloccare la distribuzione dell'oro nero verso paesi che sono considerati "nemici".

La nostra generazione non vivrebbe un mese senza energia elettrica: i pazienti negli ospedali morirebbero, la maggiorparte delle aziende chiuderebbero e ne cinema ne musica sarebbero lì a rincuorarci dopo una dura giornata. Ora quello che voglio dire non è che tra cinque anni non avremo più elettricità per carità, ma dobbiamo aspettarci dei grossi cambiamenti, e dovremmo prepararci affinchè i nostri figli abbiano a disposizione energia perpetua, a basso costo e prodotta localmente.

Questo traguardo non è utopico o difficilmente realizzabile, ci sono le tecnologie per ricavare energia dalla fonte perpetua per eccellenza. Il sole. Facendo i giusti investimenti potremmo raggiungere l'indipendenza energetica in meno di cinque anni e non porci più il problema dell'energia per 30/50 anni almeno.

Quello che propongo non è niente di rivoluzionario ed è supportato da dati certi ed incontrovertibili, oltre che "sostenuto" da illustri professori e scienziati di tutto il mondo. Il piano si articola in 2 fasi:

1. Incentivazione alla produzione di energia da parte delle aziende private e dei nuclei familiari tramite l'installazione di pannelli fotovoltaici sul tetto o sul terreno. Creando una legislazione favorevole (vedi il grande successo ottenuto in Germania e Spagna) per la quale chi produce energia in eccesso la rivende al fornitore elettrico, che l'acquista allo stesso prezzo per Kwh. In pratica il cittadino paga in bolletta la differenza fra quanto consuma e quanto eroga all'ente elettrico. Se il saldo è positivo ottiene un accredito. Da 3 anni il progetto è stato adottato anche dall'Italia con il Conto Energia riscuotendo molti consensi ed installazioni.

2. La realizzazione di una centrale solare termodinamica (vedi progetto Archimede). Questo progetto che ormai ha passato la fase sperimentale,  è sostenuto niente di meno che dall'eminente Professore Carlo Rubbia (Nobel per la fisica nel 1984, Direttore del CERN di Ginevra, Professore ad Harvard e presidente dell'ENEA fino al 2005) ed alcuni importanti esempi sono già in funzione ed hanno dimostrato di essere altamente efficienti e senza limiti considerevoli. La prima centrale di questo tipo in europa è stata costruita in Spagna (Andasol 1) e ne sono in costruzione altre. La costruzione è durata 2 anni e copre il fabbisogno di 50.000 abitazioni, ad ogni ora, ogni giorno. Per sempre. Infatti questo tipo di centrale produce energia anche di notte ed anche in presenza di cattivo tempo. Non è pericolosa e crea una forte occupazione (500 persone durante i due anni della costruzione e 50 posti permanenti). La centrale è costata 310 milioni di euro... Non sono briciole per carità, ma ricordatevi che copre un fabbisogno di 50.000 abitazioni (circa 150.00 persone), praticamente cinque volte il fabbisogno residenziale di San Marino.

La realizzazione di questo progetto porterebbe inevitabilmente all'indipendenza energetica di San Marino una volta per tutte e gli permetterebbe di non essere più in balia di stati ed aziende petrolifere. E questa sarebbe una grande vittoria. Ogni volta che premete l'interruttore della luce, ogni volta che guardate un film alla tv, quando ascoltate un nuovo cd o scrivete una mail al computer ricordatevi che state bruciando petrolio, state rinforzando paesi estremisti, state inquinando il mondo dove voi stessi vivete.

Il mondo è pieno di energia, non c'è bisogno di bruciare petrolio per ottenerla, ci vuole solo la lungimiranza per muoversi prima che sia troppo tardi. Prevenire è meglio che curare.

My notes from last night's meeting:

San Marino Recreation Committee met held a public meeting to hear feedback from the community on this matter. 

The proposed dog park will be located in San Marino's Lacy Park on the West side not too far from the tennis courts.  14,500 sq. ft. area that has been used in the past by San Marino Girl Scouts for their August camping/cooking week and the annual fish derby is under consideration.

The costs of building the San Marino Dog Park will run around $20,000 and include putting appropriate turf, access key card, fencing and sterilizers.  The annual upkeep is expected to run several thousand dollars.  Dog Park users will be charged an annual fee for using the park.  The park will be closed a couple of times a year to accommodate the fishing derby and some other San Marino activities.

San Marino Dog Park will have to be self-policed.  Owners will need to pick up their dogs' treasures and ensure that the area is kept clean.

Humane society estimated that San Marino has close to 3,000 dogs based on the size of the community.  Currently less than 10% are licensed with the city.  To be able to use the dog park, residents will need to ensure that their dogs are licensed which will ensure that they have the necessary vaccinations keeping these doggies happier and will add to the city's revenue stream.

Residents of San Marino that came to the meeting were torn on this issue.  Speakers were given 3 minutes to state their opinion on the issue and then the San Marino Recreation Committee took the feedback under consideration in their discussions.

Proponents of San Marino Dog Park:

• Dogs are already allowed in San Marino.  Now they will have their own secure area where they can run without a leash and socialize with other dogs.
• Dogs need a couple of hours of exercise a day.  This keeps them healthy and not as aggressive or loud.  Dogs tend not to bark in dog parks. 
• A dog park would provide another opportunity for dog owners to socialize and get to know one another.  A benefit to the San Marino's close knit community.
• There are really no areas in San Marino currently that will allow dogs to run freely.

Opponents of San Marino Dog Park:

• Putting a dog park in Lacy Park will take away from Lacy Park's original purpose of providing a "pastoral" tranquil and serene setting.
• Size of the dog park was a concern to some.  The recommended size of a dog park is around 1 acre.  This area will be half the recommended size.
• San Marino dog park will be too close to existing homes that back up to Lacy Park.  San Marino homeowners are concerned about the potential noise and smell.
• Parking is an issue for some.  Currently, Lacy Park's parking is very limited.  San Marino residents expressed concern that the dog park will increase the number of visitors thus making it more difficult to park in the area.
• Liability - some residents were concerned about the potential city liability in case of accidents, dog bites, etc.

Unfortunately I had to leave early and did not attend the discussion held by the Rec Committee.  Derek Barker reported that the vote was positive and the dog park is going to San Marino City Council for consideration.

Il Festival Calanchi ha ottenuto negli anni scorsi un grande successo, motivo per cui si evolve in ogni edizione per offrire al pubblico spettacoli di qualità; come sempre la manifestazione proporrà volti nuovi del teatro per far emergere volti nuovi poco conosciuti nella nostra realtà. L’appuntamento con l’edizione 2008 del Festival Calanchi è a San Marino dove grandi spettacoli garantiranno divertimento e intrattenimento per tutte le età.

The first chart represents the number of single family residences (sfr) that came on the market, went into escrow, sold and came off the market in Pasadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, Altadena and La Canada between September 20th and last Friday, September 26th. This picture tells a very different story from what most of the nation is experiencing in their respective real estate markets. Our market been affected by the economic downturn, however it still has a very strong heartbeat.

La Mostra Micologica di San Marino è uno degli appuntamenti autunnali più importanti dove si celebra la bellezza di questa stagione che sul monte Titano è sinonimo di colori e sapori unici grazie alla grande quantità di funghi ed erbe che il sottobosco sono in grado di offrire.

La tradizione fa risalire la fondazione della città al 3 settembre del 301, quando Marino - un tagliapietre dalmata dell'isola di Arbe, fuggito dalle persecuzioni contro i cristiani dell'imperatore romano Diocleziano - stabilì una piccola comunità cristiana sul Monte Titano.

Un tagliapietre? UN TAGLIAPIETRE? Ed oltretutto Dalmata! Ma.. ma.. allora sono Massoni (e sono in 111)! Vabbè approfondiremo il discorso in seguito.

Una cosa interessantissima sulla Repubblica di San Marino è che 6.695 sammarinesi (i cari buon sammaritesi) hanno fondato una piccola comunità a Detroit. Che questo sia l'inizio di un Nuovo Ordine Mondiale il quale vedrà i sammarinesi, con il loro dialetto romagnolo, conquistere il mondo intero, magari alleati con la terribilissima e neutralissima Svizzera? A me tutta sta neautralità ha sempre dato diffidenza. Cosa staranno mai complottando?
