Silly question-- of course you do! How could you have forgotten?

Anyways, I just wanted to share with you that I have a new movie coming out, S. Darko. I will reprise my role as Samantha Darko from Donnie Darko. I'm really excited about the movie because the story line is excellent. See, I take a roadtrip with my BFF because my family's crap is driving me crazy! On our trip, we break down, and a meteor crashes, and I find out that I can see the future. I learn some dirt on Donnie and the rest of the Darkos, too, and ultimately end up learning a lot about myself! My character is very complex.

The cast and director were such a pleasure to work with. Chris Fisher did a lot to make it feel the same, you know, because he had nothing to do with the original version. Don't let that deter you though, because this film is going to be SUPER. We've got cast from Gossip Girls, One Tree Hill, and MTV's dating show Next! It's a very diverse and talented cast.

Anyways, I need go, but be sure to see the movie! It comes out next spring, and even if a meteor falls to Earth an uncannily close time to the release of the movie, we can go straight to DVD... again. Ugh.

Everyone remember the annoying shit from Donnie Darko, Samantha Darko? Good. Well after I learnt of S. Darko being released and fucking joined petitions to stop this atrosity, whining on how this movie is going to ruin Donnie Darko and how I'm going to hang myself... I then discovered that at least Daveigh Chase is keeping her role as Samantha. Sure, about zero to one amount of other characters are returning, but fuck me, she's 18 now and is pretty damn fine if you ask me.

Fuck yeaaaah. I have now decided that should this be released, I'm going to have to watch it just for her. Although I feel like a nonce, since she WAS Donnie's younger sister who was about 11 at the time... Yum.

In the center of my super lame "no one understands me/ I <3 JP Sartre" middle school years, Donnie Darko was a beacon of existential light..plus I sort of had a crush on him. In recent news, there will soon be a Donnie Darko II titled, S. Darko.

Free from the film's original star, director, and screenwriter, S. Darko takes place seven years following Donnie's death when Donnie's little sister, Samantha Darko, goes on a road trip to LA, where weird shit goes down.

There is some legitimately crazies in the southland. I heard she encounters a scary Jewish shaman armed with a camera and an ironic fanny pack, his side kick villian from the East, and their many 14 year old minions. It should be good.

Apparently, British pop musician, Ed Harcourt, is doing the soundtrack.

So I

I hate reading online forums because I get sucked into them. Yes, this post is about movies.

So I'm reading The Dark Knight forum on IMDB when I come across a nasty rumor that has one Angelina "I can't act my way out of a paper bag, not to mention way too overrated (but hey, guys are too busy looking at my tits to notice that I can't act for shit), not to mention I'm also married to Brad Pitt, and wasn't he in Playgirl that one time, who knows? I'm too busy breeding and adopting babies from every country in the world except ours" Jolie will be playing Catwoman. If this true, I'm sorry Mr. Nolan you're just going to find yourself in a Batman and Robin situation with a dead baby on your lap and a bunch of angry nerds (you know the ones who care about the integrity of the film series, errm like me). We'll march to the forums and bitch and whine. Lucky me, I have a blog dedicated to bitching and whining so I don't have to resort to online forums.

Other suggestions are using Mr. Reese (clever, by the way) to replace the Edward Nigma (E. Nigma for you slow witted readers) as the Riddler role. I see the common flaw that everyone else sees: If I were saved by the person who I was going to expose in a time when a mad man in clown makeup had a hit on me (cos he was going to do whatever madmen in clown makeup do if someone didn't kill me), then nothing can change my mind about betraying this guy who runs around in a bat suit. Besides, wasn't it also set up, if you wanna read into this way too much (am I right guy who thought it was an allegory for Iraq), then it was Lucius Fox who said that the new bat suit will protect him again...ahem...cats.

But all in all, these are just nerds, like me, with too much time on their precious hands, like me, that take to the net, like me, and rant and banter about shit that they don't' have anything knowledge of, like me. However, I do have a life and I do try to, you know, not be a complete nerd.

But there is very little hope in the movie world for me. With Watchmen so far away from being released, I'm thinking there should be a few movies I wouldn't mind watching. I even found a few. But thank you shit hole area that I live in, I probably won't be seeing most of these in the theater. Are you glad that I'll spare you the hassle of looking them up?

In Search of a Midnight Kiss

Garden Party

Religulous

Gonzo

and oddly enough, a movie like Sex Drive also piqued my interest

But it's movies like Elegy (based on a novel by one of my favorite authors, Philip Roth) and Boy A that give me a sense of hope that cinema is taking a turn for the better from the shit it's been spewing (ahem, Disaster Movie, anyone?) lately.

Elegy

But then, while there is a flicker of hope for cinema, someone has to go and screw up a cultish classic and make a sequel. So anyone who wants to be maniac, let's ruin the work of Chris Fisher and Nathan Atkins, shall we? Because some movies, like Donnie Darko, do not need a sequel.

That idea's just as bad as Angelina "I can't act my way out of a paper bag, not to mention way too overrated (but hey, guys are too busy looking at my tits to notice that I can't act for shit), not to mention I'm also married to Brad Pitt, and wasn't he in Playgirl that one time, who knows? I'm too busy breeding and adopting babies from every country in the world except ours" Jolie playing Catwoman.

Are you excited about the Donnie Darko sequel being made, S. Darko? I am, I loved that film so much, I can't even remember how many times I've watched it. The directors cut was good too, a bit more revealing. There are still a few questions I have though, but I won't go into them right now.

So the new film is about Donnies sister, and it's 7 years in the future in 1995. Interesting. Apparently Franks in there too but not many of the original cast. Oh well.

Can you remember what you were doing in 1995? I was at school, it was fun! Soundgarden were huge, so was Alice in chains and Pearljam. This was about the time that I started getting into Iron Maiden. UP THE IRONS!!!

This was also the year I saw S.F.W. on video! (what's that??!!!) What an 'alternative' film that was. Actually at the time it was a pretty cool film. The Nineties seems like such a distant ear now that we're almost at the end of the first 10 years of the NEW millenium. Wow, is that scary or what? The nineties was pretty fragmented and alot of angry music (that I love sincerely) got popular, like Nu Metal, Grunge, alternative, etc. And then the end of the millenium and we all thought the world was gonna end on new years 2000. What a load of shit!!!

I remember standing by the waterfront in Wellington, completely off my face with my friends, counting down to the end of the world. And it never came. I think we all breathed a sigh of relief. And the fireworks went off and it was just another new years. My gosh!

Well the nineties are long gone, but I think they were just as important as the eighties in terms of pop culture. All that awesome music. Now what do we have, endless rehashes of what what was. I mean 'the Galvatrons', whats that? Sounds like a Gary Glitter clone or something. Well I guess everything ends up being compared to something else. I should be so lucky.

Hopefully the world won't end in 2012. I don't think it will. I hear that we'll reach a new stage in human evolution and ascend to a higher spiritual plane. Sounds good. So does the new sequel to Donnie Darko.

With his U.S. tour coming to conclusion, and having just completed a video shoot for "Until Tomorrow Then," you might think that Ed Harcourt would take advantage of some much-deserved time off to re-charge his batteries...but no, the prolific songwriter continues to forge ahead. The latest project? Scoring the film "S. Darko," which of course is the sequel to the sci-fi cult favorite "Donnie Darko" — you know, the movie with everybody's favorite evil imaginary rabbit friend.

Taking place seven years after the original, "S. Darko" follows Donnie's younger sister, Samantha, who has started experiencing strange visions herself. Watch out for the "S. Darko" in 2009. In the meantime, Ed also continues to work on his upcoming EP, which he hopes to finish by September, and if he gets the chance, he might be able to sneak a nap or two into his hectic schedule.

Veja:

[Spoilers a seguir]

Funny

How

Time

Flies

"Frank is a manifestation of that ambivalent aspect of Donnie's own erupting id, his stifled/frustrated hormonal urges, his feelings of being trapped in his own body and his own brain between childhood and the full-blown sexuality he so desires but knows he can't act on (with Elizabeth, anyway). How appropriate that he's attending Middlesex High School; when it comes to sex, he's stuck in the middle. When Donnie taunts Elizabeth about how to "suck a f---k" while miming that he's "all ears" -- well, whether he knows it or not, he's conjuring up a prescient image of Frankenbunny, whom he no doubt imagines engaging in all kinds of polymorphously perverse activities with his sister."

This time on ReelTime's Weblog of movies and more.... S. Darko, what it do?

Set 8 years after the death of Donnie, S. Darko is the recently announced sequel to the cult classic Donnie Darko. According to the producers, the story involves Donnie’s little sister on a road trip to Los Angeles.

This is a hard sell. Some people take Donnie Darko very, very seriously. To the Superfans, this might be like tampering with Citizen Kane.

But even making a sequel to Grease can be trouble. And just like the spectacular flop Grease 2, S. Darko has none of the principals from the original involved.

I sense a disaster on the horizon. That giant rabbit guy is warning me - this movie is a bad idea.

Capitalization rules, for one. Used to be I just knew to capitalize proper nouns and words at the beginning of sentences and maybe a person's title or two. But I don't have the slightest idea which words in this blog headline are supposed to be lowercase, so they aren't. I'd like to see someone try to do something about it.

Why in the world do I keep catching a channel called American Movie Classics airing a movie called Dracula 2000? I hardly think Dracula 2000 is an American Movie Classic. For one, I'm 100% sure it sucks, and two, it was a box office bomb. The sad thing about the film industry, though, is that any movie with a wide release is going to make back its budget. The title, even; it would have been appropriate if the movie were the least bit ironic.

I love irony.

Wikipedia just informed me that some sick person made two sequels to Dracula 2000, neither of which have the year they were released in the title. That is disappointing, I would definitely ironically rent Dracula 2003. That has to put Dracula 2000 in the running for the most bizarre, mediocre movie to spawn an entire unnecessary series on DVD. Other films in this category: Wild Things, Universal Soldier, Starship Troopers, Bring It On. Actually, I'm inclined to give Bring It On and its sequels a pass, mostly because the third one has some really strangely amusing dance scenes with Hayden Panettiere. Well, there's one, at least.

Soon joining the ranks of terrible film sequels: Donnie Darko 2 (S. Darko, yes, I'm serious), Into the Blue 2. Not that Into the Blue 1 was any good, but it did feature Jessica Alba. This sequel has Audrina Patridge from The Hills, and I saw a behind-the-scenes clip on The Soup and she is TERRIBLE. All caps, bold terrible. And I'm not one of those guys that is fundamentally opposed to the concept of sequels, either. I mostly love sequels.

I forgot to mention: Dracula 2000 stars Vitamin C. Yeah.

Good things: Supreme Court is all like "yo, George, you can't just get rid of habeas corpus," the Celtics pulled off a big comeback in L.A., Obama meets with a bunch of religious leaders (while supposed born again evangelical-whatever George Bush used to just send Condi Rice), politicians and red-blooded Americans and Anheuser-Busch itself are trying to fight off foreign acquisition of the company. Yeah, the general gist of that last link is a bad thing, but I didn't want to make a new category. Cope.

Yes, it's true, there is a Donnie Darko sequel in the making, though Richard Kelly, the writer/director of the original, has nothing to do with it, nor will profit from it, this according to reports published by Reuters and the Hollywood Reporter. It's called S. Darko and focuses on Donnie's younger sister, Samantha, (played by Daveigh Chase, the only returning original cast member), and takes place seven years after the original movie. Samantha and her best friend Corey, according to the IMDB summary, "are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions." Since Donnie Darko was one of the most self-contained movies I've ever seen, S. Darko has to be one of the least necessary sequels imaginable, but since it's already gone into production back in mid-May, it's on its way, for better or worse. Though there's already a Facebook group advocating a boycott of the movie, this only serves to give the movie some free, albeit negative publicity, and any publicity is good publicity, especially for projects like S. Darko. I'm not wild about the prospect of a sequel, but I'm not ready for a boycott, either, as there's nothing really to boycott until the movie's finished and being released. Will I want to see it then? Probably not, but the poster's kinda neat:
"What Would You Do If You Knew The Future?" I guess most Donnie Darko fans feel they already know the future with this one, that it's going to suck, that is.
I checked at the Internet Movie Database for more information about S. Darko, and came across an IMDB member offering up first footage of the movie here: S. Darko.
Yeah, I know, they're going for a different look there, but hey, it is surreal, isn't it?

Last week I was distressed to learn that one of my favorite movies (yes, of ALL TIME) was being fitted for sequel treatment. S.Darko (as it's being referred to in preproduction) takes place seven years later and focuses on Donnie's baby sister, Samantha (she of Sparkle Motion fame) now 18, who runs away from her "broken family" with best friend in tow. There are online press release references to time travel, the casting of Elizabeth Berkley(!) and a pre-production poster that makes sure to remind us of Frank, the giant bunny rabbit. What does it all meeeean? Though I try to have an open mind about these sorts of things, my first instinct is that no good can come from this. Post your thoughts in comments.

DONNIE DARKO (2001)
A sleeper hit that deservedly found an audience on video, Donnie Darko is a complicated yet irresistibly hypnotic genre movie that combines elements of horror, sci-fi and good ol’ fashioned family drama. Jake Gyllenhall impresses in the title role as a very troubled teen whose visions of a demonic man-sized bunny rabbit (named Frank) elude to the end of the world and cast Donnie as a reluctant player in the cosmic equation. Some of the plot points are obscured by open-to-interpretation mysticism, but essentially this a masterful piece of work made more amazing by the fact that it was written and directed by a 26-year old. Mary McDonnel as the Darko matriarch contributes to one of the sweetest and most sincere cinematic portrayals of family dysfunction in recent history. Real-life sis, Maggie Gyllenhall, plays Donnie’s big sister. Executive producer, Drew Barrymore and ER's Noah Wyle make for believably sympathetic school faculty. As a period piece DD captures 1988 so accurately that you forgive soundtrack tunes that don’t match-up chronologically. Scary, soulful, exhilarating and guided by existential theory, Donnie Darko is a near-perfect movie that operates as a psychedelic Catcher in the Rye in an age of clinical depression and jaded cynicism. ****

DONNIE DARKO: THE DIRECTOR'S CUT (2004)
With the addition of a handful of scenes and new music cues, DDDC arguably offers "new depth" to a story that seemed perfectly poignant and poetic the first time around. If you liked the original cut, you'll probably enjoy the new additions for the novelty alone. Most significant are scenes between Darko family members which do indeed contribute to what was already one of the most realistic cinematic portrayals of suburban family life. New revelations re: Donnie's medical status and the "tangential universe" philosophy at the movie's core sharpen the focus of story elements only implied in the original cut. Whether or not this strengthens the narrative significantly is debatable. What I most enjoyed about the new cut is that the story's genre-bending themes are crystallized. Donnie is more of a "super hero" this time around so some of his seemingly impossible off-screen actions have clearer explanation. (Just how DID he get that ax embedded in the head of that giant bronze Mongrel mascot anyway?) Now the movie's linear plot is broken into book chapters from DD's central source of mythology: "The Philosophy of Time Travel." Now, on-screen glimpses of highlighted passages explain much of just what the hell is going on. But don't expect the director's cut to completely lay everything out for you. It will still take more than one screening for even the most attentive viewer to make sense of it all. If this is the movie writer/director Richard Kelly had wanted to make all along, then great -- but you have to wonder if the studio and budget restraints that forced him to tighten things and find creative ways to deliver his original story, may've paid off with something more mysterious and dream-like. One thing that seems lacking in DDDC is the original's pitch-perfect pacing and fever-dream moodiness that leaves you confounded and hungry for more with open-to-interpretation storytelling. But what's best about the original cut is also the main course here: performances so heartfelt and believable that a lesser script might have coasted along on them anyway.

Awhile ago I posted a blog that introduced the factor of "S. Darko" (aka "Samantha D") - the sequel to Donnie Darko. I'm wondering why they didn't/don't just call it "Samantha Darko" ... Wouldn't that have made more sense?

To make this film's "probable failure" rating go off the charts, Elizabeth Berkley has joined the cast. The concept itself is ridiculous and adding Berkley doesn't seem too intelligent. I had a long list of reasons why... But I know you guys and gals understand what I'm saying. Three titles explain it all - Saved by the Bell, Showgirls, and ... Step It Up and Dance? For all the known details thus far check out this article at Reuters. I wonder what Richard Kelly is thinking right about now...

No. Just...no.

I just heard this rumor and am now pretty sure it's happening. They're making a Donnie Darko 2, or S. Darko. I know like me you're thinking, is it going to be 2 hours of the rabbit dancing around? What is there left to sequelize?

The movie (which will only keep Daveigh Chase, Donnie's little sister Samantha from the main characters), is focused on this character 7 years later after Donnie's death.

The only good thing I can see about this movie is that Ed Westwick (Gossip Girls)

and Justin Chatwin (War of the Worlds)

will be in it. Mmm.

A sequel to Donnie Darko starts filming May 18. Why? Donnie Darko is a perfect movie with a perfect ending. There is no need to go on with it just because you can. Can't a airplane engine fall from the sky on the producers and directors to stop this travesty?

OK OK, I'll probably see it when it comes out! I'm a sucker.

Filming on the new Donnie Darko movie is set to start on May 18th. The film is to be titled S. Darko, and will probably suck.

The story picks up seven years after the first film (and Donnie's death) when little sister Samantha Darko and her best friend Corey are now 18 and on a roadtrip to Los Angeles when they are plagued by bizarre visions.

Daviegh Chase reprises her role as Donnie's younger sister. The cast for S. Darkoalso includes Ed Westwick (Son Of Rambow, Gossip Girl), Briana Evigan (Step Up 2) and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball).

I will not see this movie as I am pretty sure its going to be about as awesome as Blair Witch 2, and its only effect is going to be mental rape of the first movie, which was fantastic. Just incase you though there was a chance it wont suck, more:

Ash Shah's Silver Nitrate and Newmarket Capital are producing. Los Angeles-based Chris Fisher, who previously made Nightstalker and Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders, will direct. The budget is pegged around $10m.

They need to leave Donnie Darko alone.

Titled S. Darko, the film takes place eight years after the events of the first film and follows Samantha Darko (Daviegh Chase), the younger sister of the first movie's lead character, as she travels across America with her best friend Corey. On the road trip the pair start to witness strange visions.

Chris Fisher (Nightstalker) will direct the film. Kelly, who wrote and directed 2001's Donnie Darko, is not involved in the sequel.

"I am a great admirer of Richard Kelly's film and hope to create a similar world of blurred fantasy and reality," said Fisher.

Donnie Darko starred Jake Gyllenhaal as a teenager who, after a near death experience, is told by a giant bunny that the world will end in 28 days.

Fisher added: "Donnie's not in [the new film] but there are meteorites and rabbits."

S. Darko begins production on May 18. Fox has already secured North American distribution rights for the film.

---------------------

Chris Fisher's flimography:

Nightstalker - IMDb User Rating: 3.5/10
Dirty - IMDb User Rating: 5.4/10
Rampage: The Hillside Strangler Murders - IMDb User Rating: 3.9/10

I think he should just leave the project, its one of the best films and should remain untouched. A sequel directed by anyone other than Richard Kelly will just ruin everything.
