It's disappointing to invest all that time and creativity into designing something amazing for a client, only to not be able to see it through.  But I've decided to turn tanks into tulips!  Just because the projects didn't make it to the end product doesn't mean I can't share the designs I created for them!  So here we go!

Bachelor #1 (ooo...sounds like a dating show!) was entirely uninspired by his space.  He had the basics with regards to furniture, so this project was all about adding treatments to make it cozy, romantic, and inspiring for him to be in.  He likes earth tones and a minimalist/slightly asian approach.

Since this project tanked, I decided to go all out and embellish the design from scratch.  If we were to go forward with the project, I'd leave the furniture choices out, as he already has a bed and nightstands.

I chose the majority of products from Viva Terra* online.  They have a very nice selection of quality, eco-friendly lifestyle products.  It wasn't quite the 1-stop shop for this project, but close!

Furniture::
Substitute the reclaimed douglas fir plank vintage bed from Viva Terra for the padded one.  Fabric headboards tend to get dirty and have to be professionally cleaned.  Reclaimed douglas fir Gustavian nightstands are also from Viva Terra.

Bed Linens::
10,000 foot organic cotton bedding set from Viva Terra.  For a guy, I might forego the fluffy tassled throw at the foot of the bed.  White, high maintenance products tend to not be good choices for most guys, though there are some guys that lend exception to that rule!

Walls::
The sustainable monkey pod wood buddha panel from Viva Terra would hang on the wall opposite the bed, flanked by floor candle sticks, for a peaceful view as one slumbers off to sleep.  When the candles are lit, they provide a soft glow on the art work, as well as romantic ambiance!

Curtains would be custom-made in the Tyee bio linen fabric by OEco Textiles.  Recycled wrought iron custom drapery hardware by Antique Drapery Rod Co. comes in a bronze tone to match the hanging lamps.

I envision a warm tan or something with soft gold or camel tones for wall color.

Floor::
Cocoa-colored 100% New Zealand wool Flokati rugs by Helenic Rug Imports, Inc. would lay underfoot on each side of the bed so one has something extra soft to step on when getting in and out of bed.

Lighting::
These ornate recycled metal globes by Viva Terra provide another source of ambient and romantic lighting.  They can be hung together or separately and come in different sizes.  For this design, hang the large one in the corner, to the left of the window, and the 2 small ones on each side of the bed.

There.  Tank officially turned tulip!  What do you think?

Collins: Hey, Shadow.

Shadow: (Puts his paw up to shake)

 

Collins: You’re a good boy.

Shadow: (Tail wags)

 

Collins: I heard you found a body in the woods.

Shadow: Barks (runs in circles)

 

Collins: What did you think of her?

Shadow: (Head and shoulders down on the ground, back end wiggling happily. His tail goes crazy)

 

Collins: You like Destiny, huh? She must be a good person.

Shadow: (Rolls over to have his tummy scratched)

 

Collins: But didn't she shoot you?

Shadow: Whimpers (Rolls over and plays dead)

 

Collins: That’s how you were, and you still like her?

Shadow: (Jumps up, barks, and wags the tail more)

 

Collins: What did you think of Charles DeMont?

Shadow: Snarls then growls

 

Collins: Down boy. We won't talk about him anymore.

Shadow: (Raises one eyebrow and cocks his head)

 

Collins: Thanks for coming today Shadow. It’s always a pleasure rubbing your tummy.

We have all decided that October is our favorite month for weddings. The backgrounds are beautiful, the light is perfect, and the temperature is just right. Samantha and Sean were married at the Sacred Heart Church. The ceremony was lovely. Their reception followed at the Plum Creek Golf Course and we had fun riding around in the golf carts picking out our backgrounds for romantic pictures.

this weekend will, for me, be that panic-inducing milestone in the life of every twenty-something: the first of your close friends' weddings. now, i've had friends i went to high school with get married, people i know from college who have tied the knot, even my brother (who is my age) is married. but this is that big event, where the people getting married are not doing so because the woman is pregnant or well, because that's just what you do.

this is different. this is that first wedding where the bride and groom are both actual adults, with established lives and don't give you that impression that they're just playing dress-up. and that's honestly far more terrifying than i ever imagined! especially when you happen to be in a long-term relationship that is marching ever-closer to that phase...

so the last few days have been completely anxiety ridden as i went on to our friends' "wedding page" and was introduced to the wide, wonderful world of theweddingchannel.com (i'm not posting an actual link in order to safe your sanity. you can thank me later). and i realized yet again how much the wedding industry scares me and reaffirmed my desire to get married at the courthouse. then why the anxiety, you ask? because ladies and gentleman, the man in my life is what we would refer to as a "groomzilla". and the more discussions we have about a wedding, the more it becomes apparent that we should really just have separate ceremonies and hire proxies to stand in for each other!

as i said, i'm all about the small, low-keyed wedding. i can honestly invite everyone i want to, and their dates, and still stay under 20 people. the boyfriend, however, feels that 250 is a more reasonable number. yeah.............. now to be fair, he does have a large extended family, but he's an only child! i have five brothers and sisters! i mean, i love his family and i love my family, but i don't need to invite everyone who shares more than four genes in common with me. this is also influenced by the fact that half of my family is not on speaking terms at any given moment, but that's a whole other post!

i know he wants to be romantic and have a big wedding and i think its really sweet. i think i'm (shockingly!)just too much of a pragmatist on this one. i'd much rather have an intimate ceremony with close friends and family, and spend the money that a large wedding would cost on a fabulous honeymoon. or more practically a house. what do you guys think? am i killing the romance?

Ai fi gata sa te supui procedurii ? Si daca in proces ai pierde nu doar ce te deprima ci si amintirile ce te fac sa zambesti ? Joel Barish (Carrey) ofera un posibil raspuns la aceste intrebari. E un film simpatic pe care vi-l recomand cu caldura.

Mi-a placut mult ideea filmului: posibilitatea de a sterge din memorie ceva sau pe cineva. Mi-a placut foarte mult si cum e construit filmul.Un labirint in care actiunea are loc ba in mintea lui Joel, ba in realitate, urmarindu-i cand pe Joel si Clementine, cand pe angajatii Lacuna Inc si deplasandu-se prin timp cand inainte cand inapoi pentru ca in final sa ajunga cam tot de unde a plecat.

Toate astea imi aduc aminte pe undeva de Memento si Being John Malkovitch ( al carui scenariu a fost realizat de catre aceeasi persoana Charlie Kaufman )

Carrey si Winslet isi joaca foarte bine rolurile si creeaza 2 personaje cu personalitati diferite dar care graviteaza unul in jurul altuia chiar si cand amintirile le-au disparut. Nici restul personajelor nu sunt de umplutura, aparitiile lor subliniind ideea ca este in natura oamenilor sa caute dragostea indiferent de obstacolele care le apar in cale.

Si din punct de vedere vizual filmul are cateva puncte forte: masini care cad din cer, case care se descompun, fete si amintiri care par a se dizolva, scenele in care Joel incearca sa ascunda amintirea lui Clementine sporesc senzatia de fantastic si adauga sare si piper la atmosfera filmului.

Ahh .... si finalul.....finalul. Ce frumos lasa loc pentru interpretare personala.

Joel: I can't see anything that I don't like about you.

Clementine: But you will! But you will. You know, you will think of things. And I'll get bored with you and feel trapped because that's what happens with me.

Joel: Okay.

Clementine: [pauses] Okay.

Punct in care romanticii incurabili se gandesc: "oau ... si-au mai dat o noua sansa. poate de data asta va merge mai bine" in timp ce cinicii exclama: "cya back at Lacuna Inc. in 2 ani". Paranteza Lacuna Inc. este firma ce executa operatia de stergere a amintirilor inchid paranteza.

Dupa care pluseaza cu scenele de final in care cei doi se fugaresc pe o plaja plina de zapada, aceleasi cadre ruland again and again and again pana totul se termina cu un fade to white de parca pana si amintirea aceea ar fi disparut.

Per total e un film care mi-a placut foarte mult. Un film cu suflet si un film care vorbeste despre lucruri cu care multi dintre noi ne putem identifica.

Voi cum vedeti lucrurile?

]]> <![CDATA[evidently the heat was turned up way too high.]]> http://thoughtstowords.wordpress.com/?p=110 Fri, 10 Oct 2008 03:28:26 +0000 char879 http://thoughtstowords.pt-br.wordpress.com/2008/10/09/evidently-the-heat-was-turned-up-way-too-high/ I hate emotions.  You can't control them and often they show up at the worst times.  When I say emotions I mean mainly crying.  Anger also gets in the way a lot and of course jealousy.  Jealousy is the worst thing in the world.  Everyone sees it.  And I generally can tell when I am jealous and I feel so foolish.  Also people do really dumb stuff when they are jealous, especially guys (15-30yrs. old and maybe even a bigger range then that).  Jealousy causes stupid fights and often untrue accusations.

Crying/depression is also a lame emotion.  I attempt to cry as little as possible, but it just doesn't work.  I cry during horror movies, during romantic tragedies (that shouldn't count as bad), when I see homeless animals/people, when someone I love is crying, and on and on.  I hate when I begin to cry and am at the same time trying to comfort someone.  But it is so wrenching when you see someone that you care about in terrible pain (and somehow my sympathy goes out to people in horror movies too...).  Sometimes I can hold my tears in and generally this is when it has to do with relationships.  I want to be tough and not be seen as some little girl who is dependent on someone else.  Eventually the dam breaks though and then I am left with nothing. I also hate those times when tears might actually do some good but I am unable to cry because I am just completely messed up -- as in feeling a billion things at once.

And then there is anger... one of the most moronic and possibly, for atleast some of us, the most out of control.  Your blood boils and you are just so mad.  Anger generally destroys everything and there is no bright side to it.

Basically emotions are at times very unhelpful and annoying.

I'd sleep with any man that's read Jane Austen.  No, really, any man.  Of course, that's probably only 3 but, I'd still sleep with them.  Even though I myself have never read Jane Austen.  It wasn't required reading and I've always been more into science fiction.  Funny thing that is.  To me, Jane Austen represents a feminine longing I've never allowed myself to dwelve too much on.  A romantic dream.  I don't think I understand her much.  I saw that one movie with kiera knightly  in it.  I think I was kiera knightly. Or maybe it was anne hathaway.  I'm really not sure.  But I found it insipid and annoying.  I also find most women who read Jane Austen to be insipid and annoying.  Out of touch with the true grittiness of reality.  Life is always unfair, often cruel and usually morose.  There are no Mr Darcys.  Maybe I never understood Mr Darcy.  Maybe he wasn't so obnoxious in the book. 

As a historical figure I admire Austen for breaking ground in a time when women were rarely allowed shovels.  And also for bringing a decidedly feminine mentality, so often ignored, to the forefront of the literary world.  but still, there's just something about her I find... cloying.  Just like the women who enjoy her.  Cloying.  But a man who reads Jane Austen.  Now there's something rare.  Something unique.  Something sexy.  A man not afraid of femininity and it's insipdness.  Cause let's face it, we are all a little insipid at some point.  And Goddess love a man who doesn't roll his eyes at us.  Women as a whole, and I include myself in this, are emotional and irrational, illogical and often times trite.  We have good traits too, of course.  Amazing traits.  Wondrous traits.  But you take the good with the bad.  And i'll be the first to say, there's plenty of bad.  Such is life. 

But a man who has allowed himself to see that, to understand that.  Well, he might just be worth his weight in gold. It shows an openess, a willingness to accept the extraordinary brutishness that is woman.  And we are brutes, never doubt it.  A man can beat a woman for years and she can still find the courage to walk on and build a life for herself.  One cruel word from a mother and a boy is scarred for life.  That could mean that man is the weaker sex but I don't believe that.  I believe women are the more vicious sex.  We hit were it hurts the most and then write poems about  doves and romance.  Austen is just so highschool to me.  And the real world is not highschool. 

So why this love for men who read Jane Austen?  Maybe cause I've never met one.  Maybe cause even though I know I'm a monster I still long for love.  Hope for love.  Maybe since I see the romantic streak in me as a weakness it's safer to indulge if it's mirrored in someone else.  Someone I can adore... or villify.  It all suddenly seems rather more complex than just sex with a sweet guy.  There's not enough witty banter in the world to distract from a conversation with yourself.  Especially a conversation where you don't like what you hear.  I've always been proud of my more "macho" characteristics.  But are they just a knee jerk reaction to the fragility that stains my own heart.  Am I really so easily broken.  Well, yeah, I guess I am.  Does a man who reads Jane Austen symbolize, to me, the type of man with whom I'd feel safe and unjudged?  Who I would not judge?  Does that type of man protect me from my own abyss?  Could I just be horny?

In the end my offer still stands.  No matter what it's motivation.  I'd sleep with any man who's willing read Jane Austen.  All three of them.
