Il y a plusieurs manières d'apprendre une nouvelle langue. Il y a toujours la méthode conventionnelle, de prendre un livre et d'apprendre petit à petit.

That's how I learned how to say that I was learning Czech: Učim se česky. Pretty convenient. You always learn first how to say that you don't really know much.

C'est ainsi que j'ai appris à dire que j'apprenais le tchèque : Učim se česky. Plutôt pratique. On apprend toujours en premier comment dire qu'on ne sait pas vraiment grand chose.

And there are many other ways to learn. You could learn by listening to the radio, reading books, watching movies in that language. Find penpals, and converse with them. Having someone to talk to helps a lot, too. And then, you can use statues.

Yes, statues. Remember, I was talking about Kuks the other day. And I left you without talking about one of the most important assets of the place. I am talking about the Allegories of Vices and Virtues, by Matyáš Bernard Braun, a series of statues, representing Vices and Virtues. The original statues are stored in a safe place, to shelter them from the wind. What you can see outside of the hospital are copies. I am not supposed to be able to take pictures of those, so consider yourselves lucky to be able to see them.

Oui, des statues. Souvenez-vous, je parlais de Kuks l'autre jour. Et je vous ai laissés sans parler d'un des points les plus importants de l'endroit. Je parle des Allégories des Vices et Vertus, par Matyáš Bernard Braun, une série de statues, représentant des Vices et des Vertus. Les statues originales sont entreposées dans un endroit sûr, pour les protéger du vent. Ce que vous pouvez voir à l'extérieur de l'hôpital sont des reproductions. Right in the middle, you can see Náboženství (Religion). The statue usually stands between the line of Vices and the line of Virtues, in front of the main entrance of the hospital.

Pile au milieu (c'est merveilleux), vous pouvez voir Náboženství (la religion). La statue se situe normalement entre la rangée de Vices et la rangée de Vertus, devant l'entrée principale de l'hôpital.

If you look in the details, you will see that on many statues, there are symbols that are common to both cultures. Smilstvo and the monkey, for example. Or Lenost and the donkey, Štědrost and the Horn of Plenty... And it all made me think of a game. Feel free, dear reader, to comply (or not).

Si vous regardez les détails, vous verrez que pour nombre de statues, il y a des symboles communs aux deux cultures. Smilstvo et le singe, par exemple (culture anglo-saxonne, parce qu'en France, c'est le lapin plutôt que le singe...). Ou bien Lenost et l'âne, Stědrost et la Corne d'Abondance... Et tout ça m'a fait penser à un petit jeu. N'hésitez pas, lecteurs et lectrices adorés, à y participer (ou pas).

All in all, I liked all those statues very much. I liked to see the symbols associated to them, and which ones were also part of my own culture. And I think my favorite of all was Trpělivost. Not so much for the statue in itself, but for the word. "Trpělivost, you need it in order to be able to pronounce it" ;)

En tout et pour tout, j'ai beaucoup aimé toutes ces statues. J'ai aimé voir les symboles qui y sont associés, et ceux qui font aussi partie de ma propre culture. Et je pense que ma préférée d'entre toutes est Trpělivost. Pas tant pour la statue en elle-même, que pour le mot. "Trpělivost, il vous en faut pour pouvoir le prononcer" ;)

Na poczatek opisze, jak wyglada dzien A. Zdecydowanie nie preferuje tych dni. Sa meczace, dluza sie w nieskonczonosc i ostatnim razem przegapilam autobus.

US GOVERNMENT - Przedmiot laczacy w sobie wos i historie. Mysle, ze rowniez troche polityki. Jedna z najtrudniejszych dla mnie klas. Slownictwo, ktorego w ogole nie znam oraz historia, ktorej rowniez nie znam. Prace domowe bardzo obszerne. Na przyklad na kolejne zajecia mamy podac po przykladzie z historii Stanow, gdzie kazde z 5 zalozen Konstytucji bylo podwazone, lub moze zostac podwazone. Druga czesc zadania to wyszukac z podrecznika okreslone informacje. Przy okazji chcialam potwierdzic mit o ksiazkach. Faktycznie sa bardzo duze, ciezkie i pelne obrazkow.

ALGEBRA INTERMEDIATE - Przedmiot bardzo ciekawy. I zdecydowanie latwiejszy od dwoch wyzej w hierarchii. Nauczyciel jest przesympatyczny. Ostatnio wylala mu sie Pepsi na pol klasy, a potem przy rozwiazywaniu przykladow sluchalismy Metallici. Quizz z ostatniej lekcji wygladal tak, ze kazdy musial rozwiazac 3 przyklady mnozenia wyrazen algebraicznych. Po chwili rozwiazania byly na tablicy i nalezalo samemu sobie to sprawdzic. Podpisac i oddac. I ... nikt nie oszukiwal, nie zmienial wynikow. Niepojete dla mnie. Zbyt mocno przyzwyczailam sie do polskich realiow.

HEALTH - Mlody, rowniez sympatyczny nauczyciel. Lekcja przebiega w ciemnosci, ogladamy prezentacje, co jakis czas notujac niektore fragmenty. Facet duzo mowi, jest duzo smiechu i faktycznych przykladow z zycia. Tematy sa glownie jak z wychowania do zycia w rodzinie, zdrowia, sportu.

US HISTORY - Wszystko dzieje sie za szybko. Nauczycielka jest stara. Nic jej sie nie chce. Zadaje nam wyszukiwanie dat albo trenowanie szybkosci czytania. Ciekawe co bedzie dalej.

Waznym wydarzeniem, ktore nie sposob pominac bylo 'uroczyste' ROZPOCZECIE ROKU SZKOLNEGO, ktore odbylo sie w piatek. Po przyjsciu do szkoly wszyscy zebrali sie w Auditorium (sala teatralna ze scena). Dzialo sie duzo i glosno. Najpierw wyszedl Dyrektor Afroamerykanin. Jego wejscie zdecydowanie roznilo sie od polskiego rozpoczecia roku. Przede wszystkim dostal ogromne brawa i aplauz. Po drugie byl w zielonej peruce. Po trzecie zaraz po krotkim minutowym przemowieniu kazal wszystkim zawyc (znak szkoly to wilki). Od tego momentu juz wiedzialam, ze na tym apelu z pewnoscia nie bede sie nudzic i obale badz potwierdze mity o high school w usa.

Po kolejnym aplauzie wyszedl na scene futbolista <tak, kolejny aplauz> by zapowiedziec wystep cheerlederek. To bylo cos typowo z amerykanskiego filmu. Blondynki w krotkich spodniczkach tworzace trzypoziomowa piramide. Ladny widok. Brawa i okrzyki trwaly kilka dobrych minut. Kolejnym punktem programu byli bebniarze. Czterech niesamowitych facetow. Moglabym tego bebnienia sluchac caly dzien. Po chwili zdarzylo sie cos dezorientujacego. Jeden z niepelnosprawnych uczniow na wozku zostal wprowadzony na scene i zaczal uderzac paleczka o drewniana deske. Rowniez bral udzial w przedstawieniu. Bylam zdumiona slyszac kolejne brawa i krzyki, zamiast znanych mi dobrze z Polski smiechow i wyzwisk.

Poszczegolne wystepy przerywane byly filmikami prezentujacymi nauczycieli poszczegolnych klas. I moje zdziwinie zostalo spotegowane. Filmiki moze nie tyle wysmiewaly, co przedstawialy tych ludzi w pozytywny, smieszny sposob. Przykladowo nauczyciele matematyki nakrecili parodie teledysku. Natomiast nauczyciele science zostali zamieniemi w marshmalows'owe ludziki ktore ulegaly po kolei zniszczeniu przy pomocy sprzetow z laboratorium. Mrs. Denton zostal spalony przez palnik, bo zapomnial o okularach ochronnych. I tak dalej, i tak dalej... Filmiki dostarczyly duzo smiechu i zabawy. A przede wszystkim pokazaly, ze nauczyciele to tez ludzie.

Nastepnie dwa wystepy grup tanecznych. Byly conajmniej profesjonalne. Dziewczyny tanczyly pieknie, byly zgrane i az chcialo sie to ogladac. Wszystkie w identycznych strojach. Zadnego potkniecia ani pomylki. Widac bylo wlozona w przygotowania prace, wysilek i checi. Widac bylo pasje ;)

Pozniej Sophmores i Juniors wykonali krotkie przedstawienia. Najbardziej rozbawila publicznosc dziewczyna paradujaca po scenie w masce Bush'a i podrawiajaca wiwatujace tlumy. Nie da sie pominac istotnego faktu. Amerykanie maja fiola na punkcie wlasnej przynaleznosci do grupy. Przykladowo mialo miejsce przedstawienie pokazujace wyzszosc Fremont High School nad pobliskimi dwoma szkolami. Polegalo to na quizzie wysmiewajacym brak umiejetnosci uczniow tamtych szkol, a wyjatkowo wyrozniajacym umiejetnosci Fremont. Oczywiscie wszyscy bylu aktorami, ale w Polsce to raczej nietypowe. Drugim przykladem byl krotki skecz w ktorym dwoch uczniow West High School wyszlo na spotkanie Fremont. Podejrzewam, ze aktorzy musieli byc po Drama class, poniewaz grali znakomicie. Parodia piosenki Britney Spears pokazala uczniow WHS, gdzie ich miejsce.

Jednym z ostatnich partii bylo przedstawienie osob z Main Office. Czyli zwyklych pracownikow oraz dyrektorow. Pokazano ich jako sportowcow, ktorzy rozegrali mini mecz na scenie. Pozniej rzucili t-shirty na widownie. Ludzie sie o nie zabijali. To niepojete. I fascynujace :)

Pozniej krotkie skecze o czystosci szkoly, jakoby FHS miala byc najczystsza szkola na ziemi :) Oraz smieszne sytuacje, gdy Seniors pomagaja Juniors na codzien odnalezc sie w szkole. Mile.

Na sam koniec podkreslono, ze ten rok nalezy do Seniors 2009, czyli do nas. Wszyscy Seniors wyszli na scene <lacznie ze mna> i odspiewali <beze mnie> hymn szkoly. Widac bylo wspolnote i przyjazn.

Szkola i mentalnosc ludzi jest zupelnie inna od tego, co dzieje sie w Polsce. Wszyscy sa mili, nie smieja sie z Ciebie jesli wygladasz dziwnie, jesli mowisz cos umownie dziwnego. Nauczyciele ciesza sie z tego, ze ucza i wkladaja w to wysilek. Przygotowuja prezentacje, filmy, zajecia, materialy. Poswiecaja czas uczniom. Tlumacza, sa zawsze usmiechnieci. Zartuja, bawia sie i nie traktuja szkoly jak przykry obowiazek. To samo uczniowie. Szkola to fun i droga do przyszlosci. Trzeba wlozyc troche pracy i checi, ale warto. I az sie chce w takiej szkole. Miedzy innymi dlatego, ze samemu mozna wybrac, czego sie chce uczyc. Drugim powodem sa nauczyciele i atmosfera. Warto wspomniec, ze wszyscy cos robia. Jedni uczestnicza w druzynach, inni w musicalach, inni graja w orkiestrze, etc. Ludzie maja swoje pasje i moga je rozwijac. Moze wyglada to na wyidealizowany obraz. Ale staram sie obiektywnie i rzetelnie opisac to, co widze. Jak to odbierzecie? Mysle, ze nie mozna sie zamykac.

Mam wrazenie, ze zapomnialam o tysiacu rzeczy. Wyjdzie w praniu. Z pewnoscia pojawi sie notka Szkola_3. Narazie dziekuje za wszystkie komentarze, postaram sie zrobic wiecej zdjec <tak, jak mi pozwola to w szkole> i pisac pisac pisac :)

Below are some questions and checklists to help you determine if you are in an abusive relationship. Answer the questions honestly. If you answer “yes” to any of the following questions, you may be a victim of abuse.
lie to your family, friends and doctor about your bruises, cuts and scratches?

In addition to those questions, consider the following two checklists. The first list includes signs of emotional abuse. You are probably the victim of emotional abuse if your partner:

• Repeatedly gives you destructive criticism, verbal threats and browbeating.
• Always claims to be right.
• Excludes you from making decisions and claims to be the head of the household.
• Abuses your trust by lying, hiding important information and papers, cheating or being inappropriately jealous.
• Minimizes or denies abusive behavior.
• Constantly shows disrespect, puts you down or embarrasses you in front of others.
• Harasses you by following you or checking up on you.
• Prevents you from seeing your relatives or friends or insists on going everywhere with you.
• Monitors your phone calls.

The next list includes signs of physical abuse. You are a victim of physical abuse if your partner:

• Intimidates you through angry or threatening gestures.
• Destroys your belongings or household items.
• Coerces you to have sex or perform sexual acts against your will.
• Kicks, bites, stabs, pushes, burns or chokes you.
• Uses weapons to threaten or harm you or others you love.

If you answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, or experience these forms of emotional and physical abuse in your relationship, you should seek help. Abuse is not acceptable behavior and is not something you should just learn to live with.

Don’t be a victim that keeps this a silent disease. Seek help from relatives, friends, law enforcement or community resources. With their help, you may be able to stop the abuse or, if necessary, leave the relationship. Realize that once the abuse has started, it will nearly always get worse.
