Japp, så er uroen snudd. (Takk for nydelige hilsninger på forrige tråd!! Love you!) Jeg har gode

Japp, så er uroen snudd. (Takk for nydelige hilsninger på forrige tråd!! Love you!)

The show must go on".

I certainly watched too much TV in the 50’s. I still watch too much TV. Back then everythi

I certainly watched too much TV in the 50's. I still watch too much TV. Back then everything was in black and white of course. "Truth or Consequences" with its host young Bob Barker was a favorite of mine. He was always smiling, always polite and the show could be funny when contestants had to pay the consequences.

"You Bet Your Life" with Groucho Marx was a family favorite. Nobody was funnier than Groucho. Even as a little kid I knew Groucho was a funny man. For some reason, Groucho reminded me of our family doctor, who also had a mustache and glasses. I guess that was enough to make them seem like they were related. I never confused the two men, its just that they reminded me of each other. On Groucho's show, contestants were teamed together with strangers and played for prizes up to a couple hundred dollars. We would always wait with anticipation to see if anyone would say the secret word that would make the weird looking bird drop from the rafters and give the contestants some extra cash.

Art Linkletter's "House Party" was fun to watch. The show was geared towards women I believe, but the best part for me was when he would interview the kids from the audience. He would have about six kids sitting on chairs and one by one ask them their names, what school they attended, what was their favorite color, what did their parents tell them not to say.... He was slick. Sooner or later one of the kids would say something that would make the audience roar with laughter and we at home would laugh as well. I especially liked the big long microphone he used when he talked to people.

Another favorite was "Queen For A Day", a title that may take on a completely different meaning today than what was intended by the original. On "Queen For A Day" the host would call down women from the audience, they would tell a sad story about their life situation and whoever had the saddest story would become "Queen For A Day" and win washers and dryers, or refrigerators, or whatever the show's producers thought she should win. She'd get a robe and a crown and everyone was crying and that was the show.

All of these shows had something in common that my five or six year old brain caught onto right away. On every show the host would ask a contestant their name and put this object in front of them while they answered. Then they would return the object to their face and ask another question, and send the object back in the face of the contestant. I noticed this and was fascinated that this long object could make people tell you all kinds of things.

One day, I was outside behind the house and noticed this old, old washing machine sitting there. It was round, had two large rubber cylinders resting horizontally on the top of it, and on one side was a long handle. This is pretty much what it looked like: http://www.jamd.com/image/g/3239465. Somehow, I managed to get the handle off (the washer didn't work anyway) and my career as a TV game show host began.

Anyone who got close enough to me became a contestant, and I would very deftly do what all hosts did - ask them their name. Then with every bit of professionalism I could muster I would thrust the "namer" in front of them so they could respond. That's right, the namer. All TV hosts had a namer that would make people tell them their names. Now I had one and no one could refuse. To my surprise, most people didn't really want to be a contestant on my imaginary game show, so my career as a host was rather abruptly ended and the washing machine handle eventually found its way into the trash. Years later I learned that namers were called microphones and I started wondering who Mike was.

Sometimes I get to feelin'
I was back in the old days - long ago
When we were kids, when we were young
Things seemed so perfect - you know?
The days were endless, we were crazy - we were young
The sun was always shinin' - we just lived for fun
Sometimes it seems like lately - I just don't know
The rest of my life's been - just a show.
Those were the days of our lives
The bad things in life were so few
Those days are all gone now but one thing is true -
When I look and I find I still love you.
You can't turn back the clock, you can't turn back the tide
Ain't that a shame?
I'd like to go back one time on a roller coaster ride
When life was just a game
No use sitting and thinkin' on what you did
When you can lay back and enjoy it through your kids
Sometimes it seems like lately I just don't know
Better sit back and go - with the flow
Cos these are the days of our lives
They've flown in the swiftness of time
These days are all gone now but some things remain
When I look and I find - no change
Those were the days of our lives yeah
The bad things in life were so few
Those days are all gone now but one thing's still true
When I look and I find, I still love you,
I still love you.

I stumbled upon watching a news report last night, when many soccer fans converge onto BMO field for

I stumbled upon watching a news report last night, when many soccer fans converge onto BMO field for a soccer match with the MLS All-Star game. However during the start of the game, there was some kind of hitches along the way. Many fans began to protest the national anthems being played in their home country. The national anthems that were played were "Star Spangled Banner" for the USA and "God Save the Queen" for England - ahem, United Kingdom.

Many fans were very upset that these anthems were played in Canada (instead of their usual "O Canada") and they began to immediately bash against whoever is responsible for this madness. They even sing their own rendition of "O Canada" - just to send a message to the MLS organizers! After the fans' request, the anthem and the Canadian Flag were finally played and there wasn't a riot in light of this. It could have been worse if it escalated into a full-throttle riot when the Guns 'n Roses concert was cancelled in Vancouver, B.C. back in November 2002.

My message to all of the soccer fans who attended the MLS all-star game: Keep Fighting! We must really support our country very well and stop bickering against the teams! Just like the song by the Moffatts:
I'll be there be there for you
I'll be there for you
When you want somone who cares
When you're down and feelin' blue
I'll be there
I'll be there for you

There are many message boards who were weighing in against the issue and here is one example of some gossip about the issue. It can be founded at this link. Also, some youtube videos were uploading for fans to show their "second opinion" or "two cents" about how MLS handled the issue.

This is one example:

As one song states:

That's what you get when you let your heart win. Whoa!
That's what you get when you let your heart win. Whoa...
I drowned out all my sense with the sound of its beating.
And that's what you get when you let your heart win. Whoa.

I'm leaving you a music video by Paramore. The song is called "That's what you get". Enjoy.

Paramore - "That's what you get":

I have a very good memory of what happened in the past, complete with all the sensation and the grap

I have a very good memory of what happened in the past, complete with all the sensation and the graphic details. :)I seriously think I might get a serious case of forgetfulness when I grow older, coz my memory is stuffed with all these things in the past.

Boiled prawn reminds me of this terrible nightmare about my mom turning into a prawn queen ^^; I was having this tiring nap in my hot bedroom, and I remembered crawling under the cupboard to hide from the prawn queen. I was in primary 1 then.

Yo Te Amo (song by Chayane and F4) reminds me of a street to my tuition place in my hometown . I was in junior high school then. One day, I saw a full rainbow (that is, full half circle) at the end of the street. That was the first time I saw such a beautiful rainbow. The song also reminds me of quick dinner inside the white Honda sedan (KB 291) because my tuition started at 6pm.

Love of My Life (song by Queen) and Stay (song by Chris Cayzer) are both wonderful break-up songs, LOL! They remind me of my silliness and total lack of maturity then, and contrary to the past, they make me laugh now. (I know, how can I possibly laugh to Freddie's heart-wrenching song!)

The smell of the Multipurpose Hall in my junior college reminds me of the smell of the impossible Physics paper.

Spaghetti reminds me of sleepovers at my childhood best friend's house, about playing organ in her house and playing SimCity (the very first version) and Aladdin games on her computer, and the swing at her backyard, and her ballet dancer neighbour, and her car, and going to English tuition together. And of course, eating homemade spaghetti cooked by her mom.

A song album Car Stereo (with red cover picturing a red sedan) reminds me of this long road to a peaceful town 3-hour-drive from my hometown. It reminds me of the hilly roads to Bethesda (a leprosy treatment centre) and of a narrow road surrounded by sea. It reminds me of a porcelain pottery centre. And a long, long road with paddy fields on the sides. Aw, it's making me sentimental now. Anyway, the album is always in my papa's car dashboard and my mama pointed out to me and my sisters on how the songs in this album will make us cry when both my parents pass away in the future.

Quein Sera (song by Trio Los Panchos) reminds me of lazy holiday and waking up late on a quiet morning. It reminds me of my old house, and of my bolsta of course (tee-hee).

Every Morning (song by Sugar Ray) and Stay The Same (song by Joey McIntyre) remind me of a terribly fierce teacher and my first love <3 I was in primary 4 then.

I realise songs are very powerful in helping us reminiscing our past. I have a longer list to share, but I can't remember now. One thing for sure, in the future, KFC's Zinger and the Taiwanese Shihlin Chicken will be among things that remind me of the present :D

It is that horrible time of year again; it is time to move house. In London, that means ploughing thousands of pounds you don’t have into someone else’s pockets for the sole responsibility of being the middleman in a transaction that does not, under almost any circumstance, need a middleman.

Of course, something that isn’t exclusive to London and utterly soul destroying is the monstrous ‘holding deposit’ we all must put down the moment we like a prospective place to live in fear (usually exacerbated by the agents cunning tongue) of it being swept away by another punter.

In most cases, that fee is a two weeks rent for the property – always difficult to muster at a moments notice, no matter the sum.

My friends and I, on the first day of looking, found a beautiful, spacious loft conversion in my favourite place in London, Victoria Park Village. Its bright, airy, closer to town and everything we were looking for. Awesome.

After a good deal of rushed deliberation, we decide it is ours and ring the agent with the good news. He is stoked, the first viewing and he is a happy man. What more could he ask for?!

Eight hundred fucking pounds is what he asks for, still with a smile on his face. By the end of the day, he says. “That is the only way to confirm you still want the place and that you still have the place.”

I must, at this point, explain; our agent seems lovely, honest and sincere. He isn’t the problem as much as he is part of the problem – after all, it is his livelihood and this is just how it is done.

Have you ever tried asking whether you can transfer the money through internet banking to an estate agent’s bank account? They say it’s impossible. Have you ever then tried to explain why you can’t ‘just go and get £800 out of the bank?’ They simply don’t understand, and now I know why.

I have no choice, because to the estate agents, it doesn’t matter what I say or do or promise, there is no sure-fire guarantee that I can’t or won’t screw them in the 11th hour. That is unless they have almost a grand of your money in its rawest of forms, in their pocket.

Nothing ensures someone’s loyalty like possessing most of his or her savings.

Cash is still the bottom line, the be all and end all of our economy. You can pretend to have money on plastic, you can make your possessions look more than they are worth, but there is no denominator to cash. It simply is what it is and it is always viewed in the present. That is why estate agents like it so much and who can blame them?

So, the bad news – but the frank and honest truth; I’ve used cash.

It sucked, I didn’t like and I really really wish there have been another way, but there really wasn’t. Not without losing our new, lovely home or letting my best friends down.

The worst bit of the experience, by far, was carrying that much money around in such a thief friendly form. It leaves you so exposed and so aware of your possessions – something that cards and pin numbers never do.

I’m not giving up. I consider this a set back and a due reminder of why I am doing this. I’ve woken up and I’m going to get this blog going again. I have another five months without the Queen. I can do it.

We had some Whole Foods ice cream tonight. But the joy of jumping in the car and driving into town to visit the Grafton Dairy Queen. This is the last DQ Eskimo in use and the Dairy Queen it sits over is, in my opinion, the best in the world. I could be a little biased. Maybe.

i just received the most fantastic smelling package in the mail. handmade soaps from Squeaky Queen in Prep Wash (with toy syringe inside) and Calendula Sunshine (which I bought for my sister but it might not make it to her). a little sample soap of Spun Sugar, which smells like a carnival, was thrown in as was a sample vile of Honeytree perfume oil which i'm wearing as i type. It has a sweet yet powdery scent, very soft, not overpowering at all...i imagine this is what it feels like to be a wildflower. also included, a tiny button with a whimsically horned creature whom i can only wish is the monster under my bed at night (already joined with my other pins on the lapel of my green corduroy jacket).

the labels on her soaps are brilliant and my treats were shipped in recycled packaging which made me smile. there is no reason to buy mass produced soap from a drug store when you can get far superior quality, handmade. you know the ingredients, and it was made with care and love. i will be back to buy more (i've got my on that absinthe soap!). Thank you Amanda, for your beautiful soaps.

I posted photos of red prints of one of my recent illustrations. As I had mentioned, I've incorporated it into a red and whilte quilt that I'm building.

Now I have the entire quilt top (measuring 95 by 85 inches) pieces and ready to go. I have a beautiful backing fabric for it, but I'm on the hunt for the balogne part. It'll come, I'm on my way to visit my local Sally Ann.

Anywho, here's a sneek peek..

It's Friday and we're staying in the UK. Thinking of British rock bands with a sense of humor and wanting to get the heck out of the 21st century, I squinted my mole-eyes at my iTunes library and landed quickly on one lone band: QUEEN. Everybody's familiar with "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You," "We are the Champions," that awesome song from the Flash Gordon movie, and probably a handful of their other great and amazing songs. Even this small sampling shows the unbelievable range Queen was capable of. What I love about Queen is that A) they sound like no other band B) they weren't afraid of being theatrical, fun, and upbeat and C) when they rocked, they killed it.

[caption id="attachment_66" align="aligncenter" width="122" caption="1978 Tour de Pants"][/caption]

Which brings us to arguably the band's greatest and silliest one-two punch: "Fat Bottomed Girls" and "Bicycle Race." That these two songs appeared on the same single is a testament to the genius of Queen. Most musicians (Sir Mix-a-Lot a noted exception) probably don't think much about writing a song about either big booty ladies or bicycle races. Queen covered both in one fell swoop. Even more impressive is the fact that the two songs are remarkably different. In "Girls," Queen gives us a lust fueled fist-pumping anthem that begs to be played loudly through the boomboxes of regular joes everywhere. You hear this song and you don't even think twice about the fact that singer Freddie Mercury didn't even like women, regardless of how much junk they had in their trunk. The band switches gears completely (get it?) in "Bicycle," presenting a narrator who sounds like a whiny child who could care less about Jaws or Star Wars (Easy, nerds). The kid just wants to ride his darn bicycle, for the love of God. So how 'bout you let him, hmm?

Everyone have a good weekend and thanks for reading and your comments. Keep 'em coming. No tricks in the video this time, just an awesome clip of Freddie Mercury challenging Wembley Stadium to a skat-boo-de-lee-bap off before launching into "Under Pressure." When you're done here, go have a listen to Craig Moorhead's terrific mix of songs to land a wife with. I'll also add a link to his mix and any others over there on the list to the right in the "music" category. Cheers.

Stasera sono andato all Beach International Jazz Festival, ho alzato bandiera bianca.
