It is so much easier to see things in another than it is myself. What I have taught myself is that no matter what, everything is a projection. When I hate someone it is as much a projection as when I admire someone.

When I brush up against another who draws forth feelings that I don't enjoy feeling, now is the time to stop and see what the projection is.

With one couple, I was angry that they kept hinting at the fact that I needed to know something they knew. You know, talking to each other about what they wanted me to know. I realized after I got alone and examined it that I was doing the same thing in my own way. I also realized that this action presupposed that I knew better for another than they knew for themselves, and this cannot be.

Another time, more recently, I was thinking about a relative who is in the hospital, she said to me concerning her disease, it is hereditary. As I thought about this, I realized this was a better feeling thought than the one that says, she is to blame. As I contemplated this idea, I broke open with the awareness that I don't want to be to blame either.

With this in mind it isn't much of a stretch to understand that the way I view the world I live in is a direct picture of how I view myself, no matter how aware or unaware of this I am.

I can allow the greater part of me(other people) to present me with the information I need to be whole and free.

Everyone is my teacher.

A little less than 2 weeks until the installation and we are back with some blog activity. Previsualizing an installation and projection on this scale has been a huge challenge for all of us. We created a “mock-up” in Isadora, a software and programming environment for live video. We have used it to simulate ideas and visual concepts within the software, which will be part of our live manipulation. Here is a first look at how we envision our material (preshot urban footage, archival, pedestrian, architectural) to conceptually and visually project.

When folks don't know what to call something or where it fits in the scheme of things, they tend to throw it into a big bucket or list of assumptions. This happens most frequently when they are attempting to understand someone else's plan (e.g. due diligence on a business case, forecast or estimate) or attempting to explain, support or defend their projection of the future.

We can all agree that there are no facts about the future. However, that doesn't mean that the future lacks a rich structure by which it can be explored when standing in the present. There is a decision pattern that can provide the context for every estimate or scenario of the future. Stated another way, every assumption has a decision context; it can be unambiguously placed within a Decision Network model of the business situation. There are no exceptions!

It's been almost 2 decades since I made a list of assumptions to describe or back-up my view of the future. Every assumption that I can think of ends of being a fragment of decision data such as:

Criterion: Must limit or value that a stakeholder associates with a specific requirement/goal in a specific decision

Alternative - possible courses of action that we or a competitor might take for a specific decision

Performance estimate - the anticipated effectiveness of a specific alternative against a specific criterion/factor and our basis-of-estimate

Risk - a potential failure mode associated with a specific alternative and its probability and seriousness

Opportunity -a potential windfall associated with a specific alternative and its probability and potential benefit

Derived requirements - inherent consequence associated with an alternative that constrains other decisions, i.e. creates a decision-to-decision dependency that would otherwise not exist

Tasks - Work and resources required to inform a specific decision or to implement an alternative

Alternative dependencies - Timing/composition relationships between alternatives across multiple decisions that constrain roadmap time estimates

These bits of data don't float in free space somewhere, but they are firmly attached (and only have meaning) in context of a specific decision (a pre-existing, fundamental question/issue that demands an answer/solution). If you have a proven and comprehensive decision pattern and decision-centric information model, every assumption can be precisely described and placed within this decision model. This makes your assumptions more:

Visible

Clear

Testable

Actionable

So the next time you're tempted to build a list of assumptions (or are trying to get your head around a list created by someone else), take a moment and ask, "What decision does this assumption belong to?" and "What type of decision data is it?" Or even better, subscribe to my Decision Driven® Strategy web service and paste it precisely where it fits.

Rune Lessons

Projection

Up to this point in our lessons, we have been learning how to attract the energies of the Runes out of the Quantum Ocean and into our Auras.

Runes are creative, universal energies and the Runic energy you bring into your Aura, will create similar things in your physical reality. You attract Rune FA into your Aura and you will attract physical money into your life.

Attract Rune UR energies into your aura and you will attract physical health.

The Laws of Quantum Physics explain to us that ALL is energy. That there exists an infinite ocean of thinking, intelligent energy called the Quantum Ocean. In reality, it is the Mind of God who created everything, including the lesser Gods.

The God who has remained hidden down through the ages, couched in so many religions. Now with the Age of Aquarius, we can not only know who this God is, but we can know the Laws of Creation.

Runes are very powerful tools to use to co-create and recreate your life.

Since the Quantum Ocean responds to our thoughts, we can think these Runic energies into our lives. I call it the Science of Mental Radionics.

Once you have your Aura charged with the suitable runic energies, you can project these energies to others, to family or other loved ones or to the soldiers on the battle field.

Here is how you can project runic energy while in your favorite chair, which by now has become your outer Rune Realm due to all the Meditations and Breathing exercises you have been practicing while sitting in it.

Inhale the runic energies you intend to use out of the Quantum Ocean. Mentally chant the specific Rune Mantras over and over.

Hold your right hand up and imagine the rune energy flowing from your Aura to the index finger.

You can either have the person you want to project runic energy to in the room with you or you can use a photo or simply a mental image.

Take a deep breath and exhale the runic energy out from your hand and into the Aura of your partner or the person you wish to project to.

As you are projecting, chant the rune mantra three times. While exhaling, imagine the runic energies flowing through your hand into the Third Eye of your partner.

You can proceed and project this energy to each of your partner's chakras. Or simply to their Aura in general. If you intend to heal using the Rune Ur, point directly at the Chakra which is associated with the ailing organ, or directly at the organ itself.

All is Energy, your are energy, your chakras are energy, your organs are energy, your loved ones are energy, Runes are energy. Learn how to project Runes and help bring them into the 21st Century.

After posting my shadow experiment, Patrick Matte posed a question wondering if I would be able to do real-time reflections in a similar manner. The next day I had it done, along with some nice iterations along the way: orthographic and perspective projection (I can release those later if anyone really wants them). I've been sitting on it every since and finally decided I would take the time to write a little description into how its done and give the code to those who are interested (and I fixed up some code for backface culling in the reflection this morning).

In the book Wages of Wins, the author, David Berri, basically uses statistics to come up with some observations regarding the NBA and player productivity. Some basic conclusions he comes to are that wins are directly related to points differential. John Hollinger, the inventor of PER, agrees with this, as any other fan of statistical analysis does. There are great differences between wins produced and PER, but I am not going to go into that. At dberri.wordpress.com you can find out from him where the differences lie. Anyway, so David Berri directly links point differential to his metric Wins Produced via regression analysis. I would tell you to read his book if you wish to understand how he does this.

Well anyway, he also notes that players, in basketball, are incredibly consistent for the most part in their contributions to a teams' success. More so than baseball, football, and hockey.

So I am going to attempt to use wins produced to project the Sixers' record in 2008-09 by taking their career numbers and projecting what contributions these individuals will give to their team. I will essentially be assuming no more injuries really take place, which is a big assumption. Some injuries though may in fact help the Sixers if they occur though according to this metric like Smith's, since it got a more productive player in here in Theo Ratliff. So here goes... a detailed chart will be at the bottom of the post.

Andre Miller: Typical player. His production hasn't changed at all really over the past 3 years. It will likely stay like that. 9.34 is his projected wins produced. 0 missed games projected.

Andre Iguodala: Another typical player. His production has actually decreased over time minimally. Last 3 years average used again. 11.38 wins produced. He is also never hurt really. 3 missed games projected.

Thaddeus Young: Only one year to go off. I expect big time improvements from him, but I also expect some stumbling. We will be conservative and just go with last year. With 5 missed games projected, 4.61 wins produced.

Elton Brand: Coming off an injury. A note David Berri makes in his book is "diminishing returns." Adding Elton Brand will likely trigger this. So I will just take his last healthy year and multiply it by .9 to indicate he make up for the possible drop in production due to diminishing returns or injuries. 10.35 wins produced. If he plays to his potential though, he could produce up to around 17 or more like he did in 05-06 when he produced at a terrific rate. 10 missed games projected.

Sammy Dalembert: Take last 3 years' average and multiply by .9 for diminishing returns. 8.45 wins produced.

Louis Williams: Last 2 years he has been, like Young, an average NBA player. He could easily become more productive. To be fair, we will assume he is what he has been and that is good enough for 4.33 wins produced.

Reggie Evans: Likely to have minutes cut. We will take his last 3 years' average and multiply by .9 for diminishing returns and you get 5.14 wins produced.

Willie Green: Likely to have minutes cut down. Last year he improved greatly. For fairness, it will simply be his last 3 years' average. He will produce -2.22 wins.

Theo: Likely to receive minimal minutes. Theo has 40 games projected to miss due to not being an every day player and being really injury prone. The rest will have many projected missed games because of not being every day players.. Last 3 years average gets you .29 wins produced.

Ivey: -.58 wins produced.

Speights: Assuming he is an average NBA player 1.14 wins produced.

Rush: 0 wins produced.

Total: 51.4 wins

So 51 wins is a very conservative projection for a healthy 2008-09 Philadelphia 76ers team according to my attempt at using wins produced.

The next figure is my attempt at adjusting for likely missed games...

Above is my attempt at a conservative season assuming no major injuries occur. If Lou and Thad can just improve some and get their WP48 up to around .125 AND Elton Brand returns to all star form like he was in 2005-06, the total will go up to somewhere around 57 wins still taking into account diminishing returns and my likely injuries. So basically, if Lou and Thad continue improving and Brand is as good as advertised, the Sixers could be in the 55-60 win range which would be good enough, likely, for a top 2 seed in the East.

Note: Projecting injuries is a terrible idea. I was just doing this in an attempt to keep the total down to be fair, since someone will miss some time.

Over at David Berri's blog he already wrote a post called The Brand Value on this subject. He essentially said that the Sixers will not be better because of Brand so much, but because of Iguodala moving to the 2 and sending Willie Green's minutes down.

The personal image of an individual is characterized by how that individual presents their self when

The personal image of an individual is characterized by how that individual presents their self when meeting others or just out in public. Many perceptions are interpreted and decided within the first five minutes of meeting someone. Character traits a person looks at and for are dependent on the individual looking. People rely on their perceptions of others to classify people into a "type" of person when meeting for the first time or by just looking at someone without meeting.

Body language, behavior, attitude and how one is dressed, all attribute to society's perception of who you are as a person. Many people have two or more identities and which identity portrayed depends on the social setting.

Perceptions are learned. We teach our children about people by our attitudes towards others and even our attitudes towards our children. Our children add to what we teach with what they see in others to form their own perceptions of people.

The media teaches us that if we wear a certain perfume or cologne we will have the opposite sex following us, if we wear certain clothing we will be more sought after, our shampoos can give us more energy, certain soaps, by their lather or fragrance will wake us up in the shower and the list goes on. Other perceptions of society have been turned into slogans or phrases: "Blondes have more fun", "brunettes are smart", "dumb blonde", "hot-headed red-heads" and "Big hands equal big…" (I think you get the picture) Society has taught us these phrases and some people actually use these phrases as rules of perceptions.

When we see men dressed in suits and ties, women in dress suits with heels, we perceive them as business people who work in an office and are generally paid a bit more than the average person. When we see a person dressed to show off their body form, we generally will perceive them in one of two ways. 1. They are proud of themselves and the work they put into being healthy or 2. They are users; they will use their bodies to get whatever they can from anyone they can. They are mental game players with the playing pieces being their bodies and the playing field being you. These are the types of images that are taught to us by the experiences of our own interactions with others or sometimes by the media.

There is not a one image fits all, the best you can do is define your morals, ethics, boundaries and goals, then become that image if you are not all ready. The best image to be is the image of your self and not of someone else. Pretending to be someone you are not will come out eventually. Then all the work you put into your image is a waste… you are perceived as a "fake" and not trustworthy.

This weeks episode begins with an inflatable screen at a public event. With the rains looming in the sky, and thunder rolling off in the distance, at least the 4 guys installing this screen did not have to fight the wind. Imagine assembling a 14foot rear projection surface - similar to the picture below.

[caption id="attachment_31" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="12ft inflatable screen"][/caption]

Now you would think that 4 experienced guys could handle this. But no, they had to de-inflate it to adjust the straps that were a bit to tight the first time. Anyway, a show never goes up without some minor problem.

But the drama continues - fast forward to showrtime......

A crowd of about 200 eager kids and parents jockeyed for position to get the "best seat in the house". They laid out the blankets, unfolded the camping chairs (with cup holders) and waited for the movie. It started right on time!

Usually when a show starts folks move about to get a better view, but this show was unusual. People were packing camp and making major shifts in location.

So here are the reasons - so you can deduce what "not to do".

First off the rear projector had the telltale beam problem. That's when you are looking "into" the projector lens as your view passes through the rear screen material.

Next, the park lights were on, and they to were visible through the screen. Also, if you seated in the wrong place the automobile lights, stopping for a nearby intersection, blazed back at you through the screen.

Solutions (you can submit more) -

Check out the installation before you set up! Walk the "field" and see what interferences may affect your viewers. You probably cannot eliminate all distractions, but choose to live with the least evil of them.

On the bright side (and it was NOT the projection), the soundtrack was clear and strong, attributed to the sound system left from the band that had just played. Pays to have 18" subs in an open space.

Stay tuned for the next chapter of "What not to do"

Of course you realize that by discussing the "wrong ways", we all can learn how to build better shows - DAS

This article from The Onion was written (I think) as satire. Ironically, as a professional trainer who specializes in problem dogs - it struck me as fact rather than farce:

FLAGSTAFF, AZ–"Mommy, Woofers is lonely out there in the doghouse! He wants to come in and play!" says attention-starved Billy Tobin, 10.

"That dog doesn't care about being in this house! He just wants to run around," counters mother Janet Tobin, 44, an unhappily married homemaker.

"Will you two be quiet? All that poor dog wants is to be left alone!" says Bob Tobin, 50, world-weary father and unfaithful husband to Janet.

So goes a typical exchange with the Tobins, a dysfunctional Flagstaff family whose members possess an uncanny ability to project all of their various neuroses onto the innocent psyche of Woofers, the family dog.

"It is not unusual for a neurotic personality to project unresolved issues onto an infant, pet, house, or other neutral entity that is incapable of expressing its own opinions and feelings," said University of Arizona psychology professor Dr. Jonah Douglas. "But while such projection is far from uncommon, the fact that this family has managed to project every last one of its problems onto a single being, Woofers the dog, is truly exceptional."

The use of Woofers as a third-party neurosis receptacle is a daily occurrence within the Tobin household, with unspoken dissatisfaction, pain, and anger constantly displaced from its true source and transferred to the tabula rasa that is, for them, the dog's psyche.

Said Douglas: "Thanks to Woofers, the Tobins need never directly confront any of their longstanding personal and interpersonal issues, enabling them to perpetuate their self-defeating behaviors in an endless cycle of collective denial. He is the emotional glue that keeps this horribly maladjusted clan from tearing itself apart."

Though the Tobins are deeply troubled, they can feel confident that they will not have to confront any of their problems any time soon, thanks to the heroic, if unintentional, role that Woofers plays in their lives.

"To the best of my knowledge, in the annals of modern psychiatric science, there has never been a case of one creature serving as an essential emotional proxy to so many people," Douglas said. "Woofers must indeed be a profoundly exceptional animal. A lesser dog would have cracked under the strain of so many mutually contradictory projections long ago."

Relationships - how well do you relate?

Relationships can be the most profound or most mundane experience. Relationship with another can be

Relationships can be the most profound or most mundane experience. Relationship with another can be a place to suffer and blame, or to thrive and grow.

It all comes down to choice.

Read on if you have the courage and curiosity to live life more fully and effectively.

The relationship you have with anyone else out there (whether with a lover, friend, family member, neighbour, co-worker, boss, client, employee, child, parent, etc.) will always have an aspect (at least one!) that reflects you back to you. The choice is what you do with this.

What does that mean?

It means everyone else is a mirror to us, as we are to everyone else. So when you get upset because someone does or says something, or doesn't do or say something, you have an opportunity to either grow from it, or stay in the upset and be a victim of the circumstance. I highly recommend doing the work to grow, as the victimized life sucks big time, and is the automatic, yes automatic, cost of letting others upset you.

You don't like that? There are many remote places where you can hide out and avoid life AND relationship with others. Frankly, the ostrich approach attempting to ignore the upset or the situation only serves to prolong the agony. If you want to experience healthy relationship with others, this is not a choice you will make.

Rather, for those who would rather live in the world and relationship, and not hide out, here's where the rubber meets the road.

When you get upset by another's action or inaction, ask yourself some questions:

"What is about this person and their action that upsets me?" Answer this without making them wrong!

"What is it about me that I am getting upset about?" A more inward focused question that can reap richer rewards. If you can sit with this question, and let the mind calm down (breathing helps), you may find that this incident is a reminder of something that happened a long time ago in your own life.

"Who does this person remind me of?" Another angle that can reveal the gift this person is giving you. Unearthing an old memory of another person can release stuffed energy, and provide an avenue for healing.

"What memory does this situation remind me of?" This question is focused more on the event, not on the person, and may be a more effective excavation method.

This and more questions can facilitate healing and transformation of your life for the better. And they are part of the work I do with my clients and audiences.

These answers are a powerful route to healing and ultimately to resolve this inner trigger, so when faced with the same situation, you will no longer react in upset. You will not be disempowered, nor will you be a victim. Instead you will be empowered and have a much larger capacity to live fully. Congratulations.

If you desire to learn how to stop being the victim, and how to take mastery of your own life, so you have more peace, more joy, and healthier relationships, we need to talk! Visit my site (http://www.barryselby.com), register for my newsletter, and get informed of my next events. You can also contact me for one-on-one coaching. I am working with individuals and groups to assist them in having healthier and ultimately amazing relationships.

If, however, you would rather live a reactionary existence, being a pinball among the emotional flippers and bumpers of life, then go right ahead, enjoy yourself!

More later.

It is a psychological fact that things that irritate us the most about other people are the things t

It is a psychological fact that things that irritate us the most about other people are the things that we dislike about ourselves. That seeing that attribute in someone else magnifies that irritation because it places the mirror back reflecting at your inner being.

Thinking in those terms I have to look at my true "pet peeves" as far as behavior and wonder how true that statement is in my own life.

1. I don't like people who are over "showy". Yet it seems that at times I am guilty of just that. I don't mean to be, in fact I don't see it in those terms at the time, but in retrospect I can see how it would appear that way. That is something about myself I seek to change and improve.

2. Another thing I don't like is people who put other people down to make themselves feel superior or better about themselves. I don't really feel like I do that, but I have noticed that I have been complaining more and become upset more of other people's actions. I allow it to anger me when I really should let it go. I pass judgements on their decisions without thinking much about what Im doing. Its not a conscious thing.

3. I always expect that people are going to live honorably in life. I always become shocked when they don't. That is a hard thing for me to deal with as I try so hard to make sure the things that I do is moral and correct in the world, and conduct myself so I will never be ashamed of my actions.

4 Jealousy is an ugly and quite unnecessary emotion that I honestly don't see the point in feeling. People are going to do what the do no matter how much you stress and worry about it. What's the point of spending all of the time worrying about it. Much better to simply let go of the situation and trust. The alternative is to live a very unhappy and unsatisfied life.

5. People who constantly "name drop" to make themselves look better. I have to admit that I used to do this when i was younger because it was part of my job. It helped open doors in my careers. However, It is beyond irritating when I see my friends go all Hollywood on me and name drop in every other sentence. It is just too much.

I give myself reality checks. I try and test myself and push my boundaries and make sure that I am on the right track. I ask for feedback from God and my friends and peers for outside and impartial views. I am always open to critique.

I think this is a good exercise we should all take part in. Taking time to stop and re-evaluate our belief systems and if we are on the right path. Throw out the negative and concentrate on the positive. How much better off would we be if we used this as regular maintenance?

At the end of the day its all about checks and balances and trying to find your way to mental health and stability in your life. I breathe and take one step at a time, one foot in front of the tother. And it works well for me.

Do you constantly re-evaluate yourself and your thoughts? Do you take the time to think about the road you are headed and see if it matches where you would like to see yourself ending? if not, then ask yourself why.

Bottom line... we all deserve to be happiness. The trick is choosing to be happy with what we have in life.
