Volunteer Abroad in Philippines: Volunteering Opportunities

Volunteering Abroad in Philippines: The culture of the Philippines is a combination of Asian and Spanish influence. The people are an ethnic mix of Malay, Chinese, Spanish, American, and Indian. Since the Spaniards dominated the Philippines for over 300 years, many of their traditions, and holidays originate from the Spaniards. Over 90% of the country is Christian and 80% of these are Catholics. Local feasts for patron saints are some of the popular catholic celebrations. Religion plays an important role in the lives of the Filipinos.

Filipino, also known as Tagalog, is the official national language in the Philippines with English considered as the country's unofficial one. Both English and Tagalog are taught in school starting in grade one. In addition, there are over 111 dialects spoken throughout the different regions of the country.

Hospitality is one of the Filipino characters that truly distinguish them from other Southeast Asian people. A visitor is treated as the most important person they have ever met and will be introduced to the best the family can offer - the best food, the best place in the table, the best things, and, if they have to stay overnight, the best room and beddings!

The Philippines primarily has a tropical rainforest climate. Heavy rains are common from June to October because of the Southwest Monsoon. Monsoons are rare from December through June so there is little rainfall during these months. Strong typhoons are a concern from June through November.

Our projects are located in the Visayans, on the Leyte Island, supporting the education of orphan and rural children from the surrounding areas. The poverty experienced in this area is not just a lack of money but also the inability to access basic needs, such as health care and health facilities, as well as basic quality education for all of its children.

Our programs allow you to take part in meaningful community service work, while discovering the people, sights, smells and tastes of the Philippines.

Volunteering while traveling n the Philippines is a way to totally immerse you in Filipino culture.

This is a great opportunity to make life-long friends, learn a new culture from the inside out and discover that one person really can make a difference.

Any computer connected to the Internet needs some sort of protection against unscrupulous companies

Any computer connected to the Internet needs some sort of protection against unscrupulous companies and persons who use the Internet to spread malicious software. The new lavasoft.com Adware 6.0 has been designed to protect the computer from different types of Adware. Adware is short for advertising-supported software. Internet users are often tricked into installing an Adware program on their computer, and once it is installed the Adware program can take control over the computer and automatically play advertising material for the user, or download advertising material to the computer without the owners consent. It is very easy to involuntarily install Adware. A simple click on a fake X in the top right corner of an irritating pop-up add can be enough to `okay' an installation, without you ever even noticing that a program is being installed. The fact that you are using a Firewall and a good Anti-virus program does not mean that you are safe when it comes to Adware. You need a program specifically designed to detected and remove Adware from your computer, and alert you every time an Adware program tries to install itself.

As mentioned above, the Adware is primarily used to display advertisements and commercials for you. Some Adware are however combined with so called Spyware. Once your computer has been infested with Spyware, the Spyware program will monitor you action and send back sensitive information to its owner. The information is used by the Adware program to more effectively target you with the right commercials. The gathered information can include very personal details such as lists of all your visited websites, how often you visit each site, online purchases and all your online searches. Adware are used by dishonest persons and companies to track your online habits and gather information about you without your knowledge or consent. The information is normally used to target you with commercials and advertising, but can be used for more malevolent actions as well.

There are also honest Adware products available, which are not installed without your consent. Adware can be a way to make it possible for a company or a programmer to provide the users with free versions of a software program, such as a popular game. The advertising displayed while you are using the program will help paying for programming development costs etcetera. Honest Adware programs are not installed without your knowledge and you can remove them when you do not wish to use the software product anymore.

Lavasoft.com Adware 6.0 is one of several programs design to protect your computer from Adware. Lavasoft.com Adware 6.0 will scan your computer and clean it from existing Adware. The program will also alert you every time an attempt to install a potentially harmful program on your computer is made. Lavasoft.com 6.0 has been designed to alert you of any potential security- and privacy breaches. Lavasoft.com Adware 6.0 can be downloaded for free online and most users will probably find it easy to install and use. Compared with many other Ad-Aware programs the file is relatively small and will therefore not take for ever to download, even if you are using a modem to connect to the Internet. Lavasoft.com Adware 6.0 will begin working immediately and do not require a reboot. Using Lavasoft.com Adware 6.0 to scan your computer and clean away any suspicious software will typically take a few minutes.

One drawback with the free version of Lavasoft.com Adware 6.0 is however that it does not include all features, and you will have to pay for an upgraded version if you want to have full program access. Regardless of which Ad-Aware program you choose to use, you must update the program regularly to keep the register up to date, since new types of malicious Adware are created constantly. With Lavasoft.com Adware 6.0, updates are available for free and you can also set the program to update for you automatically.

You can configure Lavasoft.com Adware 6.0 to make it suit your own preferences. The free version comes with plenty of different options, but if you wish to have access to all possible configurations you must buy the Plus or Professional versions of Lavasoft.com Adware 6.0. If an option is greyed out in your version of Lavasoft.com Adware 6.0, it means that this option is not available. All the changes you make concerning the configuration is saved, so it is very easy to go back to an earlier configuration if you find out that your current one does not suit you.

Jason Frovich

New forms of malicious Spyware and Adware are constantly created and in order to protect your computer from infestations you must choose a high-quality program and keep it updated. Supportcave.com offer all this and more.

So, I've created my first teen program and run the first of four sessions. Given my own tendencies it's predictable that I've decided to set up some gaming in the library. But without any platforms, or dedicated game machines or staff who game, I had to do things a bit differently to the really awesome programs I've seen around the place.

What I did have was intimate access to two hardcore gamers (one who is studying game design), some older laptops and a meeting room adjacent to the library. I also had an awesome marketing librarian helping me through the red tape of it all (...we may have forgotten to put staffing needs in, but everything else was there!). I also had my enthusiasm for it and a complete dearth of teen programs in the area, particularly aimed at the less outgoing kids. I also had a few gaming regulars who have gotten to know my face.

How did I turn it into a program?

I decided on demo games for starters - apart from lessening the financial layout, it emphasised the communal nature of it all. I downloaded a lot of games and trialled them at home - big mistake because most of them wouldn't run on the laptops at the library. I downloaded some old school shareware games too, which were the hit of the night.

Another thing I decided was to download game trailers and machinima. Again there's a community focus and discursive thing (and low financial requirements). Download and trial failed yet again, with a lot of the trailers requiring updated codecs.

So, there was an astonishing amount of fail, but it was still a success. The group I got were very nerdy, very determined to show each other the coolest stuff and the most fun games. They're keen to do it again. One of them actually said "it's not about the games, it's about getting to talk to other gamers". They liked my old school stories of building PCs and blowing up power supplies in my face. They laughed themselves sick at the old DOS games. I did have a ten year old turn up, and when I explained that this was created as a teen program and had games rated for teens the kid said "well, I'm allowed to play GTA: San Andreas". After choking back my shock, I reiterated that games have ratings and they are there for a reason. Both then stuck around and nothing ruins a teen group dynamic more than the presence of two mothers.

The advertising we did was limited - mostly in the library, a mention in a local free paper and community centre newsletter. I'm going to hit the local public highschools. We're also explaining further to staff that it is a teen program, not a kids program, and isn't one that parents need to come to. Hopefully that helps.

So what else am I doing? I'm liasing with our tech and she's updated all the codecs for me. She's looking at some other improvements as well, and getting some headphones. I'm ramping up the amount of trailers/machinima vs. games and limiting myself to oldschool games. I'm going to propose the purchase of a Wii and explain how it can be used for all ages.

Apart from that, I really enjoyed the session - it was fun, if exhausting, and I'd forgotten how outcast most nerds feel at school and at home. So it felt good to give them a place to hangout and just relax.

I’m seriously considering law school. Not because I want to become a lawyer — Ambrose Pi

I'm seriously considering law school. Not because I want to become a lawyer --- Ambrose Pierce defined a lawyer as one skilled in the circumvention of the law, and I'd like to keep my soul intact --- but more because I find fascinating the balance between tedious paperwork and long-winded decisions founded on purely hypothetical arguments. In other words, I'd like getting a law degree because I'd like the process.

At first, I wasn't sure how I'm going to pay for it. Student loans are a racket, especially for law school, and the local law school doesn't have much in the way of scholarships and grants. There are 83 units; each costs $750; the costs continue to increase every year.

Then it hit me: Teach.

Teaching is perfect for some future law student eyeing the five-year law program at the local school. The best part speaks for itself: teaching brings automatic pay raises typically after every 15 graduate units, typically up to a maximum of 60 units or higher. Further reasoning follows:

After just two years, when a teacher gets established and gets a routine going in the classroom, there needn't be very much prep time spent outside the normal work day. After the same, concurrent two years of at least adequate service, that same teacher becomes tenured --- you'd have to have sex with a student to get fired after that, and sometimes not even then.

After tenure and routine set in, more time is available in the weeknights and summers for law classes from that special five-year program. Even before tenure, all summers are wide open for the sake of teaching or taking summer school and, after taking these few units, teachers get yet another automatic pay raise. It's a lucrative cycle for a young, frugal, single male with custody of zero children. The pay raises won't completely cover law school, but they'll make a sizeable dent.

I'm set to snag a position as soon as I'd want, mostly because my school photography company sends me to schools four days a week. On its dime, I can very easily start making connections throughout the better part of three counties, spreading the word with a well-placed business card --- one highly qualified social science intern is all too ready for hire.

It'll be hit and miss, mostly miss. I don't mind --- I need just one hit, one home run, and I'm perfectly satisfied to stick around my company until I make that fluke. Then, I'm set to re-enter the preliminary stage of a profession famed for militant unions and infamous for high burnout.

And why not? I'm not all that tired of teaching. After a year of training in front of a classroom and just as long theoretically learning about teaching as a credential student, I had only just begun to start. I would have continued it, too, if it hadn't been for my meddling hubris.

I have all the time I need, and I'm in just the right position to make just the right move. My CSET scores are still good for a few more years, and, chances are, my existing units will more-or-less transfer. From here, it's a matter of timing.

If nothing else, yet one more route to fame, fortune and the presidency of these United States just uncovered itself. Sweet.
