2008 China Beijing Olympics Key Venues

The stadium can seat as many as 91,000 spectators during the Olympics. The capacity will then be reduced to 80,000 after the Games. It has replaced the original intended venue of the Guangdong Olympic Stadium[citation needed]. The stadium is 330 metres long by 220 metres wide, and is 69.2 metres tall. The stadium uses 258,000 square metres of space and has a usable area of 204,000 square metres. It was built with 36 km of unwrapped steel[citation needed], with a combined weight of 45,000 tonnes. The stadium has some 11,000 square metres of underground rooms with waterproof walls. The stadium will cost up to 3.5 billion yuan (≈423 million USD).

With the Olympics Games about to begin in Beijing, I found it relevant to show you the greatest dunk I've ever seen! It was in Sydney in 2000, during a game pitting the Team USA and the French National Team. Maybe you've already seen this, but you never get tired of it, huh?

At the time, I watched it live! I remember it vividly, I started to yell and leaped out of my chair! Even if I was naturally rooting for my country, I was amazed by this dunk.

Vince Carter just humiliated the French Center. His name is Fred Weis, and the guy is a seven footer! His exact size is 7"2. How in the world did Carter manage to jump above Weis?! His jumping skills are just mind-blowing.

As for the French center, rumor has it that after this humiliation he never really get over it. He became mentally weak, and lost confidence in his game. He was drafted by the NY Knicks a year before, but never made it to the NBA. Was he afraid to run into Vince Carter one more time?

Yesterday, I read a Kobe Bryant interview (L.A Times), and to tell you the truth I was flabbergasted

Yesterday, I read a Kobe Bryant interview (L.A Times), and to tell you the truth I was flabbergasted by what he said.
Here's an excerpt of his interview:

"How does international play differ from that in the NBA?"

Kobe: "I think the NBA is actually a little less physical than international basketball. I think the international basketball rules and what they have, it's what the NBA used to be in the '80s, in terms of being able to hand-check and set screens and roll with the guard under, real physical in the paint. It's a much more physical game."

Wow! Kind of impressive, huh? Kobe is right on the money. What's your opinion about that? For me, Kobe's thoughts on International Games are just mind-blowing! Actually, I was happy to read that comment, plus it's a great star like Kobe who uttered this sentence, so it gives a lot of credit to this statement.
Over the years, International teams have so much improved that even great stars like him are forced to acknowledge their strides, and above all to respect them.
Who could have imagined that about 15 years ago? Well, nobody.

Way back in '92, Team USA was crushing her opponents in Barcelona, Spain, for the Olympics Games. Same thing for Atlanta '96. They were just manhandling their opponents, who were unable to face them more than 20 minutes. At the time, every kids in the world was worshiping them... as for me I was like everybody else : enthralled by this show.

Four years later in Sydney, Australia, things started to change a little bit. USA struggled to clinch the gold medal. They were not dominating like before, International teams had already made some significant headway, but team USA was still able to cope with it. But there was another major issue with American players : their barefacedness. They were disrespecting their opponents, with their trash-talking and all that stuff, and the way they behaved on the bench. They looked kind of uneducated, to say the least. And before long, their behavior would rile most folks. Most often, I was getting mad when they were behaving like some spoiled child... It was kind of insulting.

But the best part was to come... for foreign teams. In the '02 world championship, who was held on the American soil, Team USA was beaten for the first time (with NBA players). Moreover, this mess happened in America! Talk about an earthquake! Agentina was the team who pulled off that feat, and that was a huge relief for many people (including me!), 'cause now America was coerced to respect the rest of the world...

And 2 years ago, for the World Championship in Japan, USA's sovereignty over his opponents was definitely water under the bridge.
They were harshly beaten in the semi-finals of this competition by the Greek Team, who just outplayed them. USA hit rock bottom that day, and turned out to be unable to stop those Greek players.

So here's my point: when Kobe talks about his opponents with a lot of respect, I'm prone to think that America's effrontery over his opponents tends to disappear. I hope his teammates are on the same page as him!

Nowadays, there's a real opposition on the court. That's the way I envision the sport: play fair, give everything you have, face a real opposition, play tough while respecting your adversary, synonymous of sportsmanship.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Beijing's Olympics Games... even if my French National Team won't attend this event. Maybe I'll blog about this letdown one of these days...

As you know, Olympics Games will be held this summer in Peking, China, and the roster of the USA wa

As you know, Olympics Games will be held this summer in Peking, China, and the roster of the USA was disclosed yesterday by the manager of this team, namely Jerry Colangelo.

Take a look at this squad: Carmelo Anthony (Denver Nuggets), Carlos Boozer (Utah Jazz), Chris Bosh (Toronto Raptors), Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers), Dwight Howard (Orlando Magic), LeBron James (Cleveland Cavaliers), Jason Kidd (Dallas Mavericks), Chris Paul (New Orleans Hornets), Tayshaun Prince (Detroit Pistons), Michael Redd (Milwaukee Bucks), Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat), Deron Williams (Utah Jazz).

You can notice that none of the Celtics' big three will attend this competition. Garnett said a long time ago his time with Team USA was over, and I guess Allen and Pierce are knackered after playing 26 play-offs games in the postseason. They definitely need some rest!

I think you'll agree with me when I say that at first sight this team looks incredible. There's a bunch of all-stars (or former all-stars), and physically they'll be superiors to their opponents.

However, I think this team is unbalanced. There are too much exteriors players, and not enough insides players on this team. Only 3 insides players (Chris Bosh, Carlos Boozer et Dwight Howard) is just ludicrous, with Howard being the only center. What if one of of them gets injured, or is in foul trouble?

Plus, this squad desperately lacks some "role-players", one who can perform the dirty work. All those guys are used to get the ball all year long in their team, and they ain't used to work for the team (stuff like setting screens, playing some defense without getting many shots and playing few minutes without bitchin' about it...).

To be efficient, a basket-ball team must have some sort of chemistry on the court, and the 1st step to get this chemistry is to have a hierarchy inside the team. And when you only have superstars in your own team, please tell me how you get a hierarchy!

The lack of hierarchy was one of the main downsides in Athens '04, and in Japan two years ago. Team USA hit rock bottom against this Greek team mainly because of it. Every American players wanted to take care of the ball, and be the leader on the court.

I can't blame them: it's just what they're used to do in the regular season with their own team. But it just doesn't work this way in International competition : you gotta play as a TEAM.

One last thing: I hope this time, Mike Krzyzewski and his staff will scout their opponents!

Head of Interpol Ronald Noble has warned that there is a "real possibility that the Beijing Olympics will be attacked by terrorists. He said security services in Beijing must be prepared "for the possibility that al-Qaeda or some other terriorist group will attempt to launch a deadly terrorist attack at these Olympics''.

He added that "These activities could range from disruptive behavior, like blocking major transportation routes or infrastructure or interfering with competitions, to more violent acts like assaulting Olympic officials or athletes or destroying property.''

Chinese officials have said that terrorism is the biggest threat to the August Olympic Games and have called for closer international co-operation to prevent possible incidents.

Heart of Asia

Lucy Alexis Liu (Chinese: 劉玉玲 Liú Yùlíng, born December 2, 1968 in Queens, New York) is an Emmy Award-nominated American actress. She became known after starring in the television series Ally McBeal (1998-2002) and has also appeared in several notable film roles, including Kill Bill and Charlie's Angels.
Liu began acting in 1989, after auditioning for a role in the University of Michigan's production of Alice in Wonderland during her senior year. Liu was cast in the lead role, although she had originally only tried out for a supporting part.[1] Liu had small roles in films and TV (including the Hell Money episode of The X-Files) before landing a role on Ally McBeal. Liu originally auditioned for the role of 'Nelle Porter' (played by Portia de Rossi), and the character "Ling Woo" was later created specifically for her. Liu's part on the series was originally not meant to be regular but the enthusiastic audience response to the actress' 'feisty' Ling Woo secured Liu as a permanent cast member. It also earned her an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, as well as a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy Series. Liu cemented her reputation playing bad girls by portraying "Pearl" the sadistic dominatirix/hit woman for the Chinese mafia in the film Payback (1999).

Liu became better known with her turn as Alex Munday in the Charlie's Angels movie, alongside established Hollywood stars Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz. The film became a hit, earning more than $125 million in the U.S., and a worldwide total of more than $258 million. The sequel, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, opened to poor reviews but was a box-office hit again, earning more than $252 million. In between the two films, Liu starred with Antonio Banderas in Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever, a critical and box-office failure.

Liu next played O-Ren Ishii (Cottonmouth), one of the major villains in Quentin Tarantino's 2003 film, Kill Bill. She won an MTV Movie Award for "Best Movie Villain" for the part. Subsequently, Liu appeared on several episodes of Joey with Matt LeBlanc, who played her love interest in the Charlie's Angels movies. She also had smaller roles as Kitty Baxter in the smash hit Chicago, and as a psychologist opposite Keira Knightley in the thriller Domino. In 2006, she played leading lady and love interest to Josh Hartnett in the popular crime thriller Lucky Number Slevin. Other appearances include a cameo on the animated show Futurama and recently, The Simpsons.

Liu caused a stir when she posed for photos in the April, 2007 German edition of O magazine.

In April 2006, the documentary Freedom's Fury premiered, with Liu as executive producer. The film dramatizes the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, climaxing with the infamous water polo showdown between Hungary and the Soviet Union at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, known as the 'Blood In The Water match'.

Her film 3 Needles was released on December 1, 2006. In the film, she plays Jin Ping, an HIV-positive Chinese woman. Liu agreed to star in the film for lower than usual pay because she wanted to spread awareness about the way AIDS is improperly treated in China and Thailand. Liu's other recent roles include Code Name: The Cleaner, an action comedy released January 5, 2007 and, Rise, a supernatural thriller co-starring Michael Chiklis in which Liu plays an undead reporter, Watching the Detectives, an independent romantic comedy co-starring Cillian Murphy, and Kung Fu Panda, an animated film scheduled for 2008 in which she will voice a snake. Liu has also signed on to star in Beautiful Asian Brides and a new version of Charlie Chan which has been in pre-production since 2000; she will produce both films.

Liu has guest starred as lawyer Grace Chin on Ugly Betty episode 16 Derailed and episode 17 Icing On The Cake.

She was 5th place in the "super girls singing contest". I think she has an awesome voice, granted her English pronounciation isn't the greatest, nevertheless despite her faulty pronounciation it is still pretty obvious that she has a beautiful voice especially since she since most of the songs acapella.

She performs:

The Power Of Love - Celine Dion
I Will Always Love You - Whitney Houston
When You Believe - Mariah Carey + Whitney Houston

A compilation of highlights from the 2004 Olympics, featuring world number one tennis player and seven-time Slam winner Justine Henin (BEL).

Here you will see highlights from Justine's run to her gold medal victory, including her famous semifinal match against Myskina when she came back down from 1-5 in the final set (one game away from losing) to win it 8-6. Justine wins the final against Amelie Mauresmo and wins Belgium's only gold medal in the 2004 Olympics. Justine's run to the gold medal is all the more impressive considering that she hardly competed in 2004 due to her struggles with a fatigue-inducing virus.

Also shown in this video are Mary Pierce (FRA), Anastasia Myskina (RUS), Amelie Mauresmo (FRA), and Alicia Molik (AUS).

Dopaje en los Juegos Olímpicos

De Wikipedia, la enciclopedia libre

Saltar a navegación, búsqueda
