It's very strange that reading a book doesn't seem to deter people from talking to you. Only one person bothered me this morning so it wasn't that bad. :)

I don't understand how the days go by so quickly. I swear it was just yesterday I was bitching about how long I had to wait for it to be friday and now friday is tomorrow already.

I'm kinda sleepy and I think I had one too many martinis yesterday. Who in their right mind drinks martinis on a wednesday??  Me I guess.  I was just kinda bored with my vodka tonics and decided to spice it up.

I heard a bunch of jams on bassdrive yesterday but I was kinda busy as I was listening and didn't write any of them down and therefore cannot report on them. Lame.

Sorry this post is so boring. I'm using all my energy to try and keep awake.

The genesis: MS-DOS & Windows 3.1
I started using PCs at the age of 14 in secondary school. At that time, you would boot a computer to get a black screen (and that was MS-DOS). I would then navigate to the Windows forder and then type "win" to start the Windows 3.1 operating system. On the 486 model computers that I was using at that time, Windows 3.1 was slow but it did allow us to use Word and Excel.

Windows 95
In August 1995, Windows 95 was released and this was a major breakthrough; I remember seeing people queing up in front of stores in the US to buy that OS. You would no longer boot to a black DOS screen but you had a nice graphical interface welcoming you. None of the other releases of Windows after that had such an impact - Windows 98 (it crashed when Bill Gates demonstrated it) and Windows ME (the Mistake Edition) were just ehhhhhh ... well you know.

My Uni Years
The next interesting release of Windows was Windows 2000 which was built on Windows NT. By that time I was at uni and I was starting to touch Linux - Red Hat and I haaaaaattttttttted it. Everything was just so hard; saving on a diskette, finding a file,... and since then I've never liked Red Hat. My undergrad years were mainly Windows 2000 which was dual booting with Red Hat (coz I "unfortunately" needed that at Uni).

In 2003, I went for my MSc and I suddenly stated using a lot more of Linux. There, they had "Monkey Linux" certainly a custom-built distribution of Linux and I started enjoying its speed. At home, I had moved to Windows XP and Mandrake which was just so much better than Red-Hat (same inside but the interface is so much better).

At work
The major change of OS would take place after I got a job at the University of Mauritius. I had Windows on my PC but it was sooooo slow. Avinash, a colleague of mine & the founder of the Linux User Group of Mauritius, urged me to move to Linux and he introduced me to Kubuntu (Breezy Badger at that time) and it was kind of ... ok. Dapper Drake which was released a few weeks after my initiation to ubuntu proved much more stable and had everything I wanted. I stayed on Dapper for quite a while and it would dual boot with Windows Media Centre on my laptop (which was used only for playing games and doing graphics jobs).

Now
I've now moved on to Mac OS X; why? Coz it's the best looking OS I've seen! Of course it rarely crashes and it's easy to use (it boots in 30 secs and shutdowns in 5 seconds) but Mac are just beautiful and of course you can do whatever you want, same as linux or windows.

In fact, I've realized that what I'd want Linux to become. I want Linux to be Mac OS X.

Bueno ya que tenemos eso con nuestra calculadora de Windows pues seleccionamos la opción cientific, ok ahora los 2048000 Bytes hay que convertirlos a Hexadecimal , pues bueno solo escribimos este número y seleccionamos la opción Hex y no lo convertirá y nos dará como resultado esto 1F4000, bueno pues nos dio 6 dígitos así que lo convertiremos a 8 dígitos agregándole dos 0 mas al inicio para que nos quede así: 001F4000 , ahora ya que tenemos el valor hexadecimal , procedemos a cambiarle el peso al archivo , nos vamos a start/run/cmd ya que estamos en la consola ubicamos el archivo donde está por ejemplo el mío esta en desktop así que primero me ubico en desktop en la consola , por si no sabes cómo manejar la consola aquí te va un ejemplo:

Cd:\\users\haner ß—– Bueno me aprece a mi asi entonces que hago para ir a desktop , pues es fácil solo escribes Cd desktop y listo , pero espera y si está en la raíz a pues fácil pones Cd.. Varias veces hasta que llegues a la raíz, continuemos entonces, ya que estemos ahí escribimos lo siguiente:

Debug prueba.txt ß- depende del nombre que sea el archivo , en este caso es el mio , si te pone file no found no importa no le prestes atención a eso , ya que estemos ahí seguimos con el procedimiento

Escribimos RCX / Enter y introducimos los últimos 4 números del valor hexadecimal que son en mi caso 4000 y enter de nuevo

Escribimos RBX/ Enter y introducimos los primeros 4 numero del calor hexadecimal que son 001F y damos en enter

Escribimos W /Enter ß- Se escribe W para escribir el nuevo peso

Escribimos Q /Enter ß- Se escribe Q para salir

Y listo, bueno pero espera ahora vee el peso del archivo y abra cambiado el peso del archivo.

Con este método tu puedes quitar peso o agregar al archivo que quieras como un binder adder pero ahora el binder adder es tu consola de Windows.

Mi rendo conto che l'unica azienda (in questo campo) seria sia la mitica Apple! Certamente non hanno una canzoncina inutile e noiosa, ma almeno uno stile inimitabile... :D

Na iminência da estréia do filme Speed Racer e um jogo, nada como lembrar dos outros que saíram em outras épocas, curiosamente bem poucos. O primeiro deles possivelmente foi Speed Racer: The Challenge of Racer X pro DOS produzido pela Accolade, que na época já tinha feito uns bons trocados com a série Test Drive.

Um tempo depois veio Speed Racer pro Super Nintendo, metade jogo de corrida e metade ação-plataforma. A velocidade parece ser um problema, o que é uma pena porque os efeitos 3d da pista ficaram bem legais.

Depois Veio o do Playstation 1, muito bem feito diga-se de passagem:

Depois desse, oficialmente só mesmo o Mach 5 apareceu novamente, uma vez foi numa rápida aparição no começo da fase do Japão de Sonic Wings/Aerofighters 2 e nesse trecho do que, se não me engano, é a primeira ou a segunda fase do mais que antigo Shadow Warrior pra pc.

E como não poderia faltar, patches pro GTA:

E como bônus, ao procurar as imagens do jogo do Super Nintendo achei essas duas aí embaixo de um jogo do Steven Seagal que não chegou a ser lançado O_O

A fonte é a do Robocop, o movimento e o cenário parecem Moonwalker, mas enfim, parece bem interessante, não percam o filme. Tô falando do Speed racer!

O nome do carro é Green Energy e pode ser visto nos pôsters aqui do Brasil, no terceiro trailer rapidamente lá pelo meio, em alguns postos de gasolina e shoppings numa turnê nacional e no jogo que vai chegar logo logo. O Brasil, com toda sua tradição de grandes pilotos, não poderia ficar de fora logo desta corrida, não mesmo.

Algunos comandos útiles en DOSBox:

• mount: se utiliza para montar las unidades de disco, sino las montas no aparecerán. Ejemplo:

mount d c:\\

crea una unidad (virtual) llamada "d" donde tendremos nuestra disco duro "c:"

• comandos básicos: dir, cd...y todos los de DOS incluidos.

DOSBox trae un archivo configurable, "DOSBox.conf" muy claro y explícito que podeis manejar a vuestro antojo. Echadle una mirada antes de usar DosBox.

Method 1: Using the console registry tool

• Click Start, Run and type this command exactly as given below: (better - Copy and paste)

Method 2: Edit the registry directly

• Open Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) and navigate to:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]

• In the right-pane, double-click DisableCMD and set it's data to 0
   

Method 3: Using Group Policy Editor in Windows XP Professional.

• Click Start, Run, type gpedit.msc and click OK.

• Navigate to User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ System

• Double-click the Prevent access to the command prompt

You can then disable or set the policy to Not Configured. Disabling or setting this policy to Not Configured should solve the problem.

Algún problema, idea... ya sabeis.  

The Telnet client i have chosen to use in Windows Hyperterminal. I started Hyperterminal, and was prompted to configure dialing properties. I don't have a dial up modem on this computer but proceded to put the appropriate in the boxes provided. "03" for area code, and I selected tone dialing.

I was then prompted to enter a name for the new connection, I entered Deakin Library. The next window prompted me to select the type of connection. I selected TCP/IP, and was presented with a box for the URL, and port number. I entered library.deakin.edu.au. I was then successfully logged into Deakin's server presented with the following window. It reminds me of the command line on Linux and MS DOS. The only difference being the background colour.

The client is asking me what kind of terminal I'm using. I'm not entirely sure but will enter v for the first option, VT100.

Selecting VT100 seems to have worked, and now I have access to the library database. Now to search for books by the authour: Bennahum. Seems simple enough!

I select to search by Author, and Bennahum. There are 2 authours by this name. I select the first. Mr Bennahum has one series listed, the Pligrim Library of ethics. I enter "1" to view the first in the series, and I see I'm able to enter P to print. I'm given the option of places to print to. As instructed I select to print via email by pressing "2". I'm then instructed to enter my email address via the telnet server. I enter my Curtin email address, and voila seconds later it has appeared in my email inbox.

This task has been a success!

Reflections on Task

Overall, I think this task has been very simple. I found the interface reminded me of the command line on MS DOS and Linux. I'm pretty familiar with text based interfaces already. It is great though that I finally know how to use the mysterious hyperterminal client that I mistakenly spent hours with trying to connect to the Internet when we had no ISP back when I was probably 13.

Not only that, but these games can be played on any operating system by using DOSBox, which emulates an Intel x86 PC with all the necessary components for running old DOS games. This means that I can run almost all DOS game properly on Linux, OS X, or any version of Windows.

Many of the most common DOS games can be found at bestoldgames.net, but if you can't find what you are looking for or you want to browse a huge selection, check out the-underdogs.info (very slow download speed though).

DOSBox takes a bit of setting up but there is a very nice wiki page at dosbox.com with details of how to configure things for Windows, and I found a very helpful blog page for Linux (links below).

Also, the DOSBox Game Launcher looks like a promising program to help organize and simplify using DOSBox.

One final word. These games were made without the benefit of great graphics and computing power, which means they had to be fun and addicting. Download DOSBox and re-live what was likely the best era of computer gaming thus far.

Sin duda, todo un acontecimiento en la historia reciente, de la cual nosotros tenemos la fortuna de vivir. La historia comienza en 1970 y termina en 1985. Pero ahora, casi a finales de 2007, estas empresas han hecho mucho más, una rivalidad que comenzó desde sus orígenes tomará nuevos aires en 2008, con el fuerte rumor de que Mr. Gates dejará Microsoft definitivamente. ¿Será que no quiere hundir el barco que él mismo ha construido? Ante la franca competencia del sistema del Pinguino creado por la comunidad mundial, uno se pregunta si es posible que sobreviva el estilo que Microsoft impuso: el pago de las licencias de software. Bueno, eso es algo que a nosotros nos tocará presenciar, y ojalá ocurra pronto...
