Part four of six. So I decided to do SciFi this week. I Want To Believe is out today (along with Step Brothers) and I already did comedy. Below is a list of the top five movies from the past five years (in my opinion). Be sure to check back every Friday for the next two weeks to see my picks for the best of the best.
__________

Children of Men. (2006)

I remember seeing the trailer for this and hearing the line "Because since women stopped being able to have babies, what's the point?", and thinking "Wow. Lame." Suffice it to say I was incredibly wrong and ended up seeing this movie four times in theaters.

Quote: "As the sound of the playgrounds faded, the despair set in. Very odd, what happens in a world without children's voices."
_____

Sunshine. (2007)

Yeah the science doesn't make much sense. But who cares? I remember downloading this movie (because I couldn't catch it in theaters) and watching it for a week straight.

Quote: "Kaneda! What do you see? Kaneda! What do you see? Kaneda! Kaneda!!"
_____

Cloverfield. (2008)

I loved it. Everyone else I saw it with hated it. I remember leaving the theater and not being able to say anything about it because I didn't want to get in a pissing contest with my friends. But, if you read my review, you can tell how much I enjoyed it. Read it here!

Quote: "Look at me! Look at me. I love you!"
_____

28 Days Later. (2003)

This is actually a default choice. I'm not big on SciFi and I had to choose five. The scene of London's streets left abandoned and desolate was awesome enough to get it on the list.

Quote: "He was full of plans. Have you got any plans, Jim? Do you want us to find a cure and save the world or just fall in love and fuck? Plans are pointless. Staying alive's as good as it gets."
_____

The Fountain. (2006)

I saw this on opening day (November 22) in 2006 with my buddy James from the Move It Move It staff. Right when the credits appeared on the screen, some bitch ass fucking sorority chick in front of us let out a "Um... okayyyyy?" Dumb hoe. The rest of the crowd also left the theater either making beatbox sounds with their mouths or in a dumbstruck silence. Anyway, I walked outside to discover that my vehicle had been broken into and my CD player was stolen. Instead of bitching and crying about it, much to James' surprise, I continued to talk about how amazing The Fountain was.

Quote: "All these years, all these memories, there was you. You pull me through time."
_____

I had a hard time with SciFi because, again, I don't really care for it much. Only two more weeks left of the Top 5. Seems like there's been a lot of opinions on what I've chosen for the past weeks posts. As always, if you agree or disagree with any of my choices, feel free to leave a comment.

Great! Here's a fun craft to keep the kiddies busy today:

Boogie Monsters (Okay, I confess, this craft caught my attention because of the boogie/booger reference. I'm shallow - I know this. :D )

These zany desktop dancers have the "cents" to stand on their own two feet.

CRAFT MATERIALS:
Tacky glue
3 (12-inch) pipe cleaners
2 medium pom-poms (ours were 1 1/2 inches in diameter)
2 googly eyes
Felt
Tiny pom-pom
Wooden skewer
Feather
Poster tack
2 pennies
2 penny-size buttons

Time needed: About 1 Hour

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Glue a 7-inch length of pipe cleaner between the pom-poms for arms. Let the glue dry.

2. For legs, fold a 9-inch pipe cleaner length in half and glue the fold to the bottom of the lower pom-pom.

3. Attach each googly eye to a small felt circle, then glue the eyes, felt ears, and a tiny pom-pom nose to the face.

4. For each horn, coil a 4-inch pipe cleaner length around the skewer, then glue the horn onto the head. Fold the ends of each arm to form hands. Glue the feather tail in place.

5. Add a foot to each leg by using a small ball of poster tack to sandwich each end between a button and a penny, as shown.

It's hot here in New Orleans. About this time of year I am wishing it was any other season than high summer. I'm told by friends and family that I could probably not handle winter up north. Like I'm some kind of endangered rain forest frog that would die if you took it out of it's environment.

OK not a frog maybe an alligator.

Anyway I wish it was my favorite time of year ... fall. I LOVE fall. It cools off here, you can go out side without being drenched in your own sweat, and it's Halloween time! The best time of year for anyone who use to play dress up as a kid. Yes, even for you beautiful boys who loved to try on your mothers pantyhose ... you know who you are.

I was watching "The Nightmare Before Christmas" the other day and realized that I identify with Jack more then Sally, as depressing and morose and I am. Not sure why but it could be the endless searching for something more ... or Jacks awesomely round like pumpkin head. I believe than I have an awesome pumpkin head too. That is a good comparison. Lets hear it for the strange and unusual folks!

Tim Burton's original poem for "The Nightmare Before Christmas":

It was late one fall in Halloweenland,
and the air had quite a chill.
Against the moon a skeleton sat,
alone upon a hill.
He was tall and thin with a bat bow tie;
Jack Skellington was his name.
He was tired and bored in Halloweenland

"I'm sick of the scaring, the terror, the fright.
I'm tired of being something that goes bump in the night.
I'm bored with leering my horrible glances,
And my feet hurt from dancing those skeleton dances.
I don't like graveyards, and I need something new.
There must be more to life than just yelling,
'Boo!'"

Then out from a grave, with a curl and a twist,
Came a whimpering, whining, spectral mist.
It was a little ghost dog, with a faint little bark,
And a jack-o'-lantern nose that glowed in the dark.
It was Jack's dog, Zero, the best friend he had,
But Jack hardly noticed, which made Zero sad.

All that night and through the next day,
Jack wandered and walked.
He was filled with dismay.
Then deep in the forest, just before night,
Jack came upon an amazing sight.
Not twenty feet from the spot where he stood
Were three massive doorways carved in wood.
He stood before them, completely in awe,
His gaze transfixed by one special door.
Entranced and excited, with a slight sense of worry,
Jack opened the door to a white, windy flurry.

Jack didn't know it, but he'd fallen down
In the middle of a place called Christmas Town!
Immersed in the light, Jack was no longer haunted.
He had finally found the feeling he wanted.
And so that his friends wouldn't think him a liar,
He took the present filled stockings that hung by the fire.
He took candy and toys that were stacked on the shelves
And a picture of Santa with all of his elves.
He took lights and ornaments and the star from the tree,
And from the Christmas Town sign, he took the big letter C.

He picked up everything that sparkled or glowed.
He even picked up a handful of snow.
He grabbed it all, and without being seen,
He took it all back to Halloween.

Back in Halloween a group of Jack's peers
Stared in amazement at his Christmas souvenires.
For this wondrous vision none were prepared.
Most were excited, though a few were quite scared!

For the next few days, while it lightninged and thundered,
Jack sat alone and obsessively wondered.
"Why is it they get to spread laughter and cheer
While we stalk the graveyards, spreading panic and fear?
Well, I could be Santa, and I could spread cheer!
Why does he get to do it year after year?"
Outraged by injustice, Jack thought and he thought.
Then he got an idea. "Yes. . .yes. . .why not!"

In Christmas Town, Santa was making some toys
When through the din he heard a soft noise.
He answered the door, and to his surprise,
He saw weird little creatures in strange disguise.
They were altogether ugly and rather petite.
As they opened their sacks, they yelled, "Trick or treat!"
Then a confused Santa was shoved into a sack
And taken to Halloween to see mastermind Jack.

In Halloween everyone gathered once more,
For they'd never seen a Santa before
And as they cautiously gazed at this strange old man,
Jack related to Santa his masterful plan:
"My dear Mr. Claus, I think it's a crime
That you've got to be Santa all of the time!
But now I will give presents, and I will spread cheer.
We're changing places I'm Santa this year.
It is I who will say Merry Christmas to you!
So you may lie in my coffin, creak doors, and yell, 'Boo!'
And please, Mr. Claus, don't think ill of my plan.
For I'll do the best Santa job that I can."

And though Jack and his friends thought they'd do a good job,
Their idea of Christmas was still quite macabre.
They were packed up and ready on Christmas Eve day
When Jack hitched his reindeer to his sleek coffin sleigh,
But on Christmas Eve as they were about to begin,
A Halloween fog slowly rolled in.
Jack said, "We can't leave; this fog's just too thick.
There will be no Christmas, and I can't be St. Nick."
Then a small glowing light pierced through the fog.
What could it be?. . .It was Zero, Jack's dog!

Jack said, "Zero, with your nose so bright,
Won't you guide my sleigh tonight?"

And to be so needed was Zero's great dream,
So he joyously flew to the head of the team.
And as the skeletal sleigh started its ghostly flight,
Jack cackled, "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

'Twas the nightmare before Christmas, and all though the house,
Not a creature was peaceful, not even a mouse.
The stockings all hung by the chimney with care,
When opened that morning would cause quite a scare!
The children, all nestled so snug in their beds,
Would have nightmares of monsters and skeleton heads.
The moon that hung over the new-fallen snow
Cast an eerie pall over the city below,
And Santa Claus's laughter now sounded like groans,
And the jingling bells like chattering bones.
And what to their wondering eyes should appear,
But a coffin sleigh with skeleton deer.
And a skeletal driver so ugly and sick
They knew in a moment, this can't be St. Nick!
From house to house, with a true sense of joy,
Jack happily issued each present and toy.
From rooftop to rooftop he jumped and he skipped,
Leaving presents that seemed to be straight from a crypt!
Unaware that the world was in panic and fear,
Jack merrily spread his own brand of cheer.

He visited the house of Susie and Dave;
They got a Gumby and Pokey from the grave.
Then on to the home of little Jane Neeman;
She got a baby doll possessed by a demon.
A monstrous train with tentacle tracks,
A ghoulish puppet wielding an ax,
A man eating plant disguised as a wreath,
And a vampire teddy bear with very sharp teeth.

There were screams of terror, but Jack didn't hear it,
He was much too involved with his own Christmas spirit!
Jack finally looked down from his dark, starry frights
And saw the commotion, the noise, and the light.
"Why, they're celebrating, it looks like such fun!
They're thanking me for the good job that I've done."
But what he thought were fireworks meant as goodwill
Were bullets and missiles intended to kill.
Then amidst the barrage of artillery fire,
Jack urged Zero to go higher and higher.
And away they all flew like the storm of a thistle,
Until they were hit by a well guided missile.
And as they fell on the cemetery, way out of sight,
Was heard, "Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good
night."

Jack pulled himself up on a large stone cross,
And from there he reviewed his incredible loss.
"I thought I could be Santa, I had such belief"
Jack was confused and filled with great grief.
Not knowing where to turn, he looked toward the sky,
Then he slumped on the grave and he started to cry.
And as Zero and Jack lay crumpled on the ground,
They suddenly heard a familiar sound.

"My dear Jack," said Santa, "I applaud your intent.
I know wreaking such havoc was not what you meant.
And so you are sad and feeling quite blue,
But taking over Christmas was the wrong thing to do.
I hope you realize Halloween's the right place for you.
There's a lot more, Jack, that I'd like to say,
But now I must hurry, for it's almost Christmas day."
Then he jumped in his sleigh, and with a wink of an eye,
He said, "Merry Christmas," and he bid them good bye.

Back home, Jack was sad, but then, like a dream,
Santa brought Christmas to the land of Halloween.

When Resistance 2 was first shown on GTtv people thought the game didn't looked that great. Insomniac games mentioned it wasn't a finished product and that a Graphical update was coming and that you would see it in the new E3 trailer. Today Insomniac made new screenshots available, and to be honest, I'm pretty speechless about them.

Resistance 2 will be released in November 2008. The beta is rumored to be in Qore Episode 3, which Bigpete7978 mentioned earlier.

There are many diverse denizens of Daedonas, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, the greatest strength and weakness of the Kinken are one in the same, trade. The Kinken are the most numerous and influential people of the Crescent Lands. With a high birthrate and the ability to adapt to many different climes the Kinken can be found almost anywhere, from the western highlands to the east coasts, living in anything from rural villages to ancient cities. Although not considered adept mentally or physically the Kinken’s make up for this is in their numbers and their innate understanding of trade and obsessive pursuit of wealth. This pursuit has led the Kinken to spread out all over the crescent lands, both peacefully and aggressivly, their settlers are far reaching and farms, hamlets and Kinken villagers are everywhere. This has led to the displacement of many Rohrak, Braymun, Grungi and Kukri, and has always led to much war and strife between other denizens and other Kinken. In the city they are the majority of the population and directly influence both government and trade, even if they aren't always leading it.

Living an average lifespan of up to 60 years, most Kinken spend their lives in squallid conditions, eeking out a farming life fighting beasts, other denizens and rival Kinken for each acre of land. The city folk Kinken are the labourers and craftsmen. Those that excel in trade do rise above their kin and live in the more structually safe higher reaches of the ancient cities. Being an avian genus, the Kinken are born from eggs, there are generally more females then males and leadership of the kindreds rests on a male figurehead, but since there are so many females an incompetant leader doesn't hold his station for long.

All die kleinen Fröhlichkeiten

Loslassen, was mir schadet.

Vergessen alles was sonst den Kopf überquellen läßt.

Danke, H.

This is a pretty durable creature, except for the parts of its blue flesh not covered by rock. When it wants to eat something big, it grabs it with its arms and holds it near its mouth. Because it only eats bones, it sprays an acid over the specimen that melts down to the bone. He then, obviously, eats it.

Langweilig!
Wen interessierts.
HYPE!

Resume

Resume
I need to create a new resume. The only resume I own contains information about special skills like "Southern accent" and "baseball." It's for background/extra work. While I would not be opposed to doing more of that, I have realized said extra work will never lead to a starring role. Ergo, I would rather not schlep around in winter clothes crossing and re-crossing the streets of NYC when it's 95 degrees out. The smell of piss and burnt waffles is too overbearing in the heat.
Work History
Besides the occasional background work, my only paid job experience to speak of is eight years working as a waitress at TGIFridays. It used to pay the bills but not so much anymore. Now, it is simply a source of mild amusement and distraction.
Education
I have a B.A. in English with minors in Theatre, Journalism and Film. I also have completed three levels of Improv class at UCB. I will take more classes soon. Surely, that will add to my net worth. I took the IQ test on facebook & I scored 143 so I might be pretty smart.
Things I do & like doing
I like taking pictures. I have two fairly decent cameras. I am skilled with Photoshop but I only work on a PC and the only copy of Photoshop I have is the incomplete Elements cheap-o version. I also use some generic program that runs like the turtle in that commercial. It used to be great for selective coloring of pictures and creating animated gifs. I like making videos but my video camera necessitates a pretty awful proprietary program and the footage it creates is subpar despite my best intentions. I love to drive but, unless I get a new job that pays more money, I may have to downgrade from my beloved Mini =( I love music. (Here's where you find out why I stay up until 6am most weekdays) For the past year, I have been in charge of my boyfriend's band's myspace. For the past six years, I have made their press kits, Tshirts, pictures, videos and posters but this more recent endeavor has led to my adding over 9000 friends to their page. While this has not taken them any closer to record deal, it has enhanced my skills as a vicious self-promoter and has guided my career focus toward something music related.

SOOOOO, in short, I would like any of the following jobs:
* Concert photographer
* Traveling concert photographer/documentarian (I love rock-umentaries.)
* Photo editor (preferably not for something stuffy like pharmaceuticals)
* Avante garde supplemental wedding photographer who is responsible for taking the "fun" pictures/candids
* Myspace researcher/friend getter (I have zero web design skills and do not know HTML)
* Graphic designer for a company willing to train me in the ways of the MAC world & all of the programs that I do not know (I am a fast learner.)
* Tshirt designer
* Continuity expert for movies/tv (I hate so very much when the glass refills itself halfway through a scene)
* Music blogger
* Professional improviser (I would be a perfect addition to the "Reno 911!" staff.)
* Rock star (I know five chords now and can almost carry a tune)

[caption id="attachment_31" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="Daniel Johnston"][/caption]

Any suggestions? I have searched craigslist and monster and have yet to find a job that suits my abilities. I have, however, found out that I could get paid thousands of dollars per week just to take surveys from home. Too bad "taking surveys" is not one of my skills. Any ideas on easy ways to create your own professional looking photo portfolio online? I am currently sending people to my slightly out of date photo.net site. I am open to any and all suggestions.

Legendary artist and producer Dr. Dre, Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman Jimmy Iovine and leading audio/video accessories company Monster, announced today (July 22) via press release that their new Beats by Dr. Dre high definition powered isolation headphones will be available July 25th at Apple retail and online stores, Best Buy retail and online stores, as well as the official website beatsbydre.com, for a price of $349.95.

With the help of Monster, Dre and Iovine hope to provide consumers with high-level audio performance headphones, meaning extreme clarity, deep bass and full power which they believe have been lacking in conventional headphones. By combining new advanced materials, sophisticated construction, extra large drivers, and a powerful digital amplifier, The Beats by Dr. Dre high definition powered isolation headphones have the capability to reproduce the crisp, clear sound that musical artists and producers hear in professional recording studios.

Dr. Dre says via press release: "Artists and producers work hard in the studio perfecting their sound, but people can't really hear it with normal headphones. Most headphones can't handle the bass, the detail, the dynamics. Bottom line: the music doesn't move you. With Beats, people are going to hear what the artists hear and listen to the music the way they should - the way I do."

Furthermore, to recreate the quietness of an isolated recording studio listening experience, the headphones also feature powered ambient noise-isolation, allowing consumers to hear all the details and nuances in their music.

Convenience is also key as the headphones come with additional Monster iSoniTalk headphone cable with integrated high grade microphone and answer button for consumers with music-enabled phones.

"Dre and I have been developing these headphones for a while and in Monster we found a partner that could work with us to crystallize his vision and develop them to the quality level he expects," said Jimmy Iovine. "Beats By Dr. Dre is yet another example of Interscope's commitment to working together with its artists in developing new avenues to experience music."

The headphones will be available starting July 25th. Link
