Halloween is flying toward us on its broom of darkness.  It's prime time for costume preparation and parties. Blondeshell and I spent all day Saturday visiting costume shops near and far to put together some interesting, spirited costumes.

Let me tell you, I'm glad I do not work full time in a halloween store.  The screaming of banshees and flashing lights pretty much had me Halloweened out by the end of the day.  I'm still looking forward to the big day--or several, as I'm working on three different costumes for three different events.  Did I mention how much I love Halloween???

Well, after shopping in the Saturday crowds, I have a little shot to suggest...  It's green and creepy looking and tasty!

The Goblin Melon Eyeball Shot

It's super easy:  pour half the shot vodka and half the shot Midori.  If you like super sweet drinks, just pour the Midori straight.

Get a tray.  Get a bunch of shot glasses.  Pour this eerie green potion and serve it around the Halloween party.  Looks festive.  Tastes great!

Halloween is close at hand and parties are nearing.  Midori has planning tips and cocktails for all your Halloween festivity needs.  The green color of this little liquor is perfect for the season.  While in the seasonal spirit, Tobacco Road Cellars has released new vintages for fall.  The three red wines lend themselves to warming the soul; perfect for the changing weather.  There are also two white releases that are sure to please the palate for holiday dinners and gathering with friends. 

Zacapa Centenario Rum rolls out in markets across the U.S. in the next week or so.  I mentioned that in post this week.  Due to the roll out, I searched through archives for the marketing agreement between Diageo and Zacapa Rum.  It is dated Feb. 7, 2008, but the information is there for any who would like background. 

Courvoisier Cognac makes available eight sets (if I understood the press release correctly) of the extremely rare Courvoisier Erte Collection just in time for the 2008 Holiday season.  Descriptions of each of these Art Deco era style bottles designed by the master Erte may be found in the press release.  The price is not for the faint of heart.  Suggested retail price for a single bottle is $1,450 or $10,000 for the collection.  They will not be available in the U.S. until November but may be ordered now in pre-sale.

Beam Global and funkin, Ltd. have joined forces to distributed ready-to-pour, all natural purees, syrups and cocktail mixes to help bartenders create fresh cocktails quicker.  These mixes are packaged in convenient foil pouches and are available in twenty-four flavors.  The idea is to expand the variety of fresh ingredients for creative cocktails even when particular fruits are out of season. 

Diageo Plc announces their search for “Best Bartender in the World.”  The entrants will receive extensive training in all things a luxury brand cocktail specialist should know from the sound of the release.  A website will open later this month for those wishing to participate.

Even though I'm still not quite sure what "the cloud" actually is (it's the internet, right?), Microsoft has just announced that it will be releasing 'Windows Cloud' at its Professional Developers Conference later this month. Windows Cloud (a temporary codename) will apparently be based on Windows Server, but with new features and characteristics. Steve Ballmer made the announcement at a Microsoft-sponsored conference for IT managers in London.

Some of the new features include geo replication, management modelling, and an SOA model. "We're not driving an agenda towards being service providers," Ballmer explained, "but we've gotta build a service that is Windows in the cloud." I must admit that I have absolutely no idea what that means. To me, the cloud is just a fancy name for the internet, and I can't imagine how to put Windows in that cloud as a service. I could make a lame comment about how a cloud is basically vapour higher up in the atmosphere, but I'll refrain.

More interestingly though, Ballmer acknowledged the existence of Midori, a rumoured post-Windows operating system. He emphasised it's a research project.

Our big problem is there's just no secret that gets kept in Microsoft. The guy in the office next door to somebody working on Midori is not supposed to know about Midori. The last thing we want is for somebody else to obsolete us, if we're gonna get obseleted we better do it to ourselves.

Also mentioned by Ballmer was the existence of Midori, a research project looking to build the OS that may one day replace Windows.

Déjà parlons des photographes, cachés ( ou non ) dans tous les coins, ceux de Kera et de Reuters ont semble-t-il mitraillé l'évenement et nous offrent des photos d'une très belle qualité.

Beaucoup de lolitas présente bien sûr qui constituent un déflié avant l'heure, des coordintaions soignées, classiques ou originales, un régal pour les yeux.

De magnifiques " double twins " ou quadruplés, ça dépend des points de vue ( excusez cette marque humoristique douteuse ), arborant du Angelic Pretty. Différents styles se mélangent, des plus vieux aux plus jeunes, autant ne pas en perdre une miette .
Des sacs contenants des goodies, des flyers et autres petits papiers sympathiques pour faire un peu de pub ( comme s'il n'y en avait pas déjà assez ) ont été distribués.

A droite, collection Poodle de Angelic Pretty une fois de plus .

A l'intérieure, musique, écran géant, Marui assez présent, " kawaï " lancés à tout va, une ambiance très " convention " mais on commence à avoir l'habitude !

Le défilé commence donc avec Baby, The Star Shine Brights ainsi qu'Alice & the Pirates, la collection Poodles et Alice never Voyage's .

Comme d'habitude, rose et dentelle pour Baby et surtout la peluche lapin rose, " kawaï " ! Le nouveau motif d'Alice never Voyage's n'est pas déplaisant quoique les couleurs soient un peu triste pour du Baby . Durant le défilé d'Alice & the Pirates, Kamijo du groupe Versailles aurait fait une intrusion remarquée ( surtout par la gente féminine ). Puis le clou du spectacle, la magnifique cape noire imprimé dorée avec le logo assorti avec un haut de forme piqué de plume rouge !

Ensuite vient le tour d'Angelic Pretty et son " too much, kitsch mais classe " habituel de Maki et Asuka ( heureusement, pas de Milky Way en vue .. ), les motifs de Poodles, les noeuds de la Ribbon Star, et du rose bonbon, on ne s'en lasse pas et la dentelle est toujours admirable ! Cheveux roses, fleurs pour le publique, la magie d'Angelic Pretty fait toujours son effet sur les petites filles que nous sommes restées .

Puis ce fut Métamorphose, temps de fille qui opta pour une musique rock/ blues, refletant la plus grande maturité de ses modèles, sobres mais toujours très classe , un mixe entre le classique et le rock qui a fait son petit effet ! Des manteaux gris, des robes marrons et des bottes rouges, cela donne des coorinations soignées .

Le groupe de Visual Jealkb avec leurs " yaoi kiss " on une fois de plus enflammer la gente féminine. Ils ont joué trois de leurs chansons et " The Lolitas are head banginig " ... Et le phénomène para para fait encore des victimes vu que les mouvements du publiques étaient sans fautes et parfaitement synchro !

La performance des models du Kera Angel était moindre, certain vêtement tombaient mal, la présentation n'était pas exceptionnelle non plus .

Et nous en arrivons à Emily Temple Cute, une très belle préstation très '50-'60, kitsch à souhait mais toujours dans la sobriété du casual et un peu bo-bo, superbe . On y retrouve les dernières tendances comme les mailles, les caniches ( encore et toujours ! ), noeud éxagérés, cheveux frisés, chaussures dorées, couleurs chaud, leggings  ..

On peut aussi parler de Victorian Maiden qui a présenté des combinaisons pourpres, robes au motif de roses fanées. Un couple de sombre romantiques vêtus de haut de formes et chemises à jabots. La modèle à légèrement buté sur le chemin du retour et la suivante marchait étrangement avec ses bottines. La dernière création avait une magnifique traine de gaze et de plume noires !

Puis ce fut les créations d'ateliers BOZ, sans grands commentaires sauf l'apparation remarquée de Kanon Wakeshima à la fin, toujours éblouissante avec sont violoncelle et une très belle robe blanche agrémenté d'une couronne ( Hime lolita je vous l'avais dit )

Puis la musique change, punk/rock pour Hangry and Angry !

La perfomance de Jealkb fut rattrapper par celle de Plastic Tree, sans comparaison mais cela ne dura qu'une vingtaine de minutes .

Ensuite, KERA Arena, Hiderock, Hypercore, Superlover's, OzzCcroce et Qutie Fresh.

Alors, h.Naoto et son magnifique ensemble chemise à jabot (!) montre une fois de plus sa maitrise des vêtemnts "Goth" .

Puis la fin d'un défilé définitivement attendu et apprécié.

If you'll remember an earlier post Create experiences that combine the magic of…blah…blah…blah, you'll know that Microsoft's current Vision statement is one that moves the company away from the desktop and windows, toward a more "clouded" hybrid. What was the full vision statement?

“Create experiences that combine the magic of software with the power of Internet services across a world of devices.”

Yeah, see how clouded that is?

OK today it became a little more concrete for me. From hello://internet:

Recently Microsoft announced that it was developing an operating system (code named Midori) that “is centred on the internet and does away with the dependencies that tie Windows to a single PC”.

Did you just see that?  Makes a lot of sense for the company doesn't it?  Talk about a new platform.  It's worth reading more of what Ahassan says about Midori's potential.

Essentially what this means is potentially a complete conversion of the web.  Right now we have websites, and web "applications."  We've seen many applications sprout up as products like Picnik, and Photoshop.com. Of course you can't for get Zoho and Google Docs, or even Mobile Me? This Silverlight based applications approach however points towards something even more robust, with more implications.

By the looks of the video Microsoft has something very compelling here, and if they could get a foothold they have a potential to supplant, or at least be the gateway to great many web services/applications.

Like it or not this, I have to say, is much more exciting than anything like Windows 7.

This is a video I found of Youtube and the interesting thing about it is that it is an application that runs on the browser. The emphasis here is not the application itself but the technology used to create the application. The other emphasis is that the application runs on the internet – so that means you access it from anywhere.

Silverlight is a really powerful technology because you can create applications that run on the internet. Recently Microsoft announced that it was developing an operating system (code named Midori) that “is centred on the internet and does away with the dependencies that tie Windows to a single PC”.

In the video, you can see an example of a Silverlight application. It is a simple video editing application that has a user-friendly interface. It also has windows, a desktop and a bin. It is very interactive but more importantly, has the potential to evolve into a full operating system.

It may seem like an idea that doesn’t make sense but imagine if Microsoft developed the Office Suite, a browser, a multimedia player and all the applications that you can think of for that operating system. And imagine if they allowed third party developers to develop their own applications for it and gave users the ability to save their stuff online. That would mean that you can save all your bookmarks and not worry about them being unavailable when you're using another computer.

This could mean that users can access their new desktop from any computer that has internet connection. Not only will this benefit end users but also businesses. If you think about it, this is a large network (the internet) and all the desktops are connected to it. This will make collaboration much easier and cheaper.

I think this should be the way forward and we should maximise the potentiol of the internet to make our lives easier. The benifits of this are huge but with it come more problems: governments will want to access people's files (everything) with/without their knowledge, the risk of data loss increases and there will always be people who would want to sabotage the system.
