Updating his Bob Dylan Encyclopedia for the new paperback edition, Michael Gray took the opportunity to add new entries covering major recent events and product in the Dylan world.

Gray’s new edition reflects the widening array of Dylan-related activity, assessing product as varied as a CD - Modern Times, an art show - Drawn Blank, and two major DVD releases – I’m Not There and the Other Side Of The Mirror.

Michael Gray's excellent biography of Blind Willie McTell, Hand Me My Travelin' Shoes, is about to come out in a handsome paperback edition in the U.K. Still no sign of a U.S. edition, but I've read the hardcover and I can tell you the book is worth the extra freight for anyone interested in blues, American music and, of course, Bob Dylan, who wrote one of his very best songs about the Georgia bluesman.

Some enterprising soul has posted clips from Dead Ringers, which not only gets my vote as one of David Cronenberg's best films but also signaled the arrival of Howard Shore as a major film composer. A couple of minutes into this clip you'll find the bondage interlude, in which Shore's lush, romantic score helps carry the scene from outrageousness to poignance. During the lunch hour each day last week, Navy Yard artist Arianne King Comer invited passersby, local artists and well, anyone, to participate in the final phase of the creation of her Conversation Tree. Arianne's a batik artist, and she helped folks ink their thoughts, poems, sketches into fabric that will become the bark and leaves on her oxidized wire, solar-lighted tree, which is a part of The Future is on the Table international art project coordinated by Gwylene Gallimard and Jean-Marie Mauclet. The tree and portions of the batik will be on display at City Gallery at Waterfront Park and the Gibbes Museum, respectively, in September.

I observed the process throughout the week, and on Friday, finally decided to try my hand. While it was intimidating to follow so many of the talented local artists who contributed to the batik, it was awesome to learn more about the batik process, and participate in this public art project. Utah Phillips is another musician whose work stayed under my radar until his death. In fact, I wouldn't have heard of him at all except for a glancing mention in Hand Me My Travelin' Shoes, Michael Gray's superb biography of bluesman Blind WIllie McTell. On his Web site, Gray takes note of Phillips' recent passing and reproduces his interview with the man, who had a brief encounter with McTell during the course of long, eventful career.

The paperback edition of the Encyclopedia has numerous new entries, but comes without the full-text CD-ROM released with the hardback edition. (No big deal - I’ve only consulted my disc once in 18 months).

List price is £16.99; Borders are discounting it to £12.99 – an unmissable bargain if you passed on the hardback. HMV and subsidiary Fopp have it at £15.

The mandate also reduces to just three the number of concessions a company can hold - quite a blow for companies like Aurelian Resources, which holds 39 concessions. Mines and oil minister Galo Chiriboga has said a draft of the new law will be ready by the end of May.

Bem, considerando que o negócio do Michael Gray é SEO — ou seja, marketing —, sim! Ele tem de me impressionar! É para isso que as pessoas contratam ele, é por isso que eu sigo ele no Twitter e é por isso que eu acho que ele, e todas as pessoas no Twitter, deveriam se preocupar muito em impressionar a todos a quem eles falam (não só eu). Se não querem me ouvir, ao menos ouçam o Seth Godin. Ele fala sobre isso o tempo todo.

Mas certamente o Michael me impressionou. E certamente ele encorajou as pessoas a segui-lo no Twitter. E é por isso que eu sigo ele (pelo primeiro motivo). Mas eu espero que ele me siga também? Óbvio que não!

Razão nº 1 pela qual ele não deve me seguir? Eu "twito" em português. Ele não fala português, então não há motivo de me seguir. A Razão nº 2? Meus twits simplesmente podem não ter o mesmo valor agregado, utilidade ou relevância para o campo de trabalho ou à vida dele. Esta última razão é a mais importante e ninguém pode definir onde começa ou termina o valor, utilidade, ou relevância de uma mensagem, além do próprio leitor.

Pode haver valor sim em fazer um follow em massa. A Márcia Lima fez isso com todos os twiteiros de Porto Alegre, para poder se comunicar com o pessoal da nossa cidade. Ter um motivo claro e legítimo foi o motivo de eu seguir ela. E um bom motivo é necessário sim! Se um twitteiro de Nova Iorque resolver seguir todos os nova-iorquinos com Twitter, será trabalhoso, mas será algo que merece reciprocidade.

No final do dia, embora eu esteja agindo de uma forma rotulada como egocêntrica, eu estou recebendo mensagens muito relevantes à minha carreira e à minha vida (sem pedir por elas, inclusive pelo Twitter!) e, principalmente, não estou sendindo qualquer estresse por sobrecarga de informação. De fato, se tenho alguma frustração que me estressa, é a de não poder fazer mais coisas com as minhas duas horas de almoço por conta do computador lento que tenho no trabalho.

Se você quer receber a água na sua mão, não precisa necessariamente abrir todas as torneiras da casa. Uma torneira já é o suficiente. Também, esta única torneira não precisa estar aberta por inteiro: 1/4 ou metade já é o suficiente para encher um copo bem rápido.
