Claro está, Iron Man refutó la hipótesis y la rompió en varios niveles, sorprendiendo después de intentos no muy bien recibidos, como Ghost Rider, Daredevil o Elektra.

Cuando Marvel Studios (pieza clave en la estrategia de producción de la Casa de las Ideas) anunció oficialmente Iron Man 2, Capitán América, Thor y Vengadores, volvió la pregunta de si estos héroes pegarían o no. Especialmente por Thor (dios nórdico que bien te coge a martillazos, bien te manda un relampagazo) y el Capitán América (con la popularidad de los gringos y sus manías "patrióticas" de estos tiempos). Ojo, que tienen más profundidad, pero es la primera impresión lo que les podría jugar en contra.

Así que el nuevo proyecto de Marvel Animation (que opera separada de Studios y Comics), la serie animada de los Vengadores, me suena como la pieza que faltaba para preparar a una porción bastante atractiva del público a la introducción de un universo Marvel extendido. El proyecto todavía va para el 2011, mientras tanto ya tuvimos Fantastic Four, un aclamado Sensational Spider-Man, un Wolverine and the X-Men que promete, Iron Man: Armored Adventures, sumados a Marvel Super Hero Squad y Pantera Negra para el 2009.

La alineación es bastante tradicional, con Iron Man, Hulk, Capitán América, Thor, Hombre Gigante/Hombre Hormiga y la Avispa. Estamos hablando de los cinco miembros fundadores y el Capi, fundador honorario. Yendo a lo seguro como la Liga de la Justicia para empezar, asumo.

Eric Rollman, el presidente de la división de animación, confirma la inclusión de la futura serie en la estrategia road to the Avengers, aparentemente en paralelo con los tres filmes pre-Vengadores del 2011. A esperar lo mejor.

Marvel Animations, la división de animación de Marvel Entertainment, está desarrollando la producción "The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes", que será emitido por televisión en el 2011.

"Avengers", basada en la historieta de cómic, presenta algunos de los personajes más conocidos de Marvel, incluyendo "Iron Man", "Captain America", "Thor", "Giant Man" y "Wasp", que juntos luchan contra fuerzas malévolas que un sólo héroe no podría superar.

After director Matthew Vaughn (Stardust) bailed out to helm Kick-Ass and D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye) threw his name in the mix, another filmmaker is now attached to Marvel Studios' forthcoming adaptation of the comic book Thor, one that is the most unusual and the most interesting.

Indeed it's none other than Northern Irish actor/director Kenneth Branagh (Much Ado About Nothing), who is probably being sought for his strong affinity with shakespearean themes, which are apparently prominent in the comic. If this pans out, I'm convinced Branagh could churn out an amazing film.

Thor will be firmly set in the same continuity as Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk and other forthcoming Marvel films, and like those movies will lead into the planned 2011 The Avengers movie. Thor will be released in 2010. The screenplay was written by Mark Protosevich (I Am Legend).

Well now, that's one item they can scratch off the list. Let's just hope that they follow in the sorcerer footsteps of Jon Favreau and Chris Nolan when casting for the main character. I do not want to see any professional wrestler playing Thor. All they need to do is take a stroll down any street of Norway or Iceland. It can't be to hard to spot an overly muscular, blond haired, blue eyed Viking in that setting. Or can it?

Yo soy de ese grupo de personas que esperó que Iron Man apareciera en DVD para verla. Fueron largos meses de espera, debido a la gran cantidad de publicidad entorno a la película dirigida por Jon Favreau y luego debido a los muchos comentarios favorables que tuvo, catalogándola como la mejor película de superhéroes de la historia, puesto que ostentó hasta el estreno de The Dark Knight. Los 8,1 puntos que los 97 mil votos le dan en el ranking de la IMDb reforzaba todo lo anterior y no hacía más que aumentar mis expectativas en cuanto a la cinta protagonizada por Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man nos entrega 120 minutos de entretención, de fabulosos efectos especiales y personajes insertos en una historia que se sustenta sólo por las tomas de acción y uno que otro chiste facilito. Es buena, sin duda, pero eso se debe principalmente a los efectos ya que en cuanto a guión la cinta cojea y bastante, casi tanto como para decirles que de no ser por la maravilla visual que se nos presenta Iron Man estaría más cerca de las 3 estrellas que de las 4 que efectivamente le puse.

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) es heredero del imperio industrial y tecnológico creado por su fallecido padre. Desde su torre de cristal gobierna el mundo de las finanzas y se llena los bolsillos con los contratos militares que Stark Industries firma con las Fuerzas Armadas Estadounidenses, para proveerles la más sofisticada tecnología bélica. Después de una demostración de su sistema de misil "Jericho" (que coincidencia, mi próxima crítica será de una serie que lleva ese nombre) en un desolado lugar de Afganistán, el convoy que transporta a Stark a una base del Ejército es atacado y el acaudalado "Mercader de la Muerte", como lo llama una periodista, es capturado por insurgentes (¿insurgentes o defensores de su país? Hollywood suele manipular un poquito las cosas, ¿no?). Stark es herido de gravedad, sin embargo, un cientifico local lo salva insertándole un tubo metálico en en pecho y dentro de ese tubo,  unos cables que lo contectan con una batería de auto... ¡Qué loco! Cuando se recupera, los insurgentes, que son super malos, le piden que a cambio de su libertad les construya su propio sistema de misil "Jericho", para atacar a sus enemigos. Aprovechándo esta oportunidad, Tony Stark aplica toda su inteligencia en crear una armadura moderna, que incluye lanzallamas, metralleta, hierro blindado y una cosita brillante que insertó en el tubito del pecho y que le da energía. ¡Loquísimo! Escenas de acción por aquí y por allá, bang bang y Stark es libre para volver a su hogar, con espíritu renovado y una consciencia humanitaria que lo llevará a transformar su complejo militar en una industria que efectivamente ayude a la humanidad. El tema es, ¿su directiva se lo permitirá, en especial su mano derecha Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges)?

Tony Stark debe ser uno de los personajes más odiosos que he visto en una película últimamente. Para muchos pasará por canchero, buena onda, un galán, pero la verdad es que el tipo es un pelmazo, un idiota presumido que vive en una burbuja y cree que el mundo y quienes viven en él existen para su entretención personal, en especial las jóvenes y bellas mujeres que lo rodean (no lo culpo por eso). La elección de Robert Downey Jr. para el rol de este acaudalado empresario fue la más adecuada, quien mejor sino un actor presumido para interpretar a un millonario egocéntrico. Y lo hace muy bien, aunque en realidad los últimos roles de Downey Jr. han sido de personajes que tienen características similares, lo hemos visto en Zodiac, A Scanner Darkly o en Kiss Kiss Bang Bang y seguramente veremos a un odiosísimo detective británico en la próxima a filmarse Sherlock Holmes. El gran problema de este personaje y de los otros que tienen roles protagónicos, como el Coronel James Rhodes (Terrence Howard), el empresario Obadiah Stane (Jeff Bridges) y la sexy y trabajólica secretaria de Stark, Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), es su superficialidad. Ningun personaje de Iron Man tiene una historia interesante, o en realidad una historia simplemente, ya que aparecen de la nada, actúan y listo. De todas formas y aunque esta situación es un punto en contra bastante grande, el director Jon Favreau tiene la suerte de contar con tan buenos actores que se apoderan de sus personajes. Howard y Paltrow, entregan buenas actuaciones, destacan por su relación amor/odio/amor por Stark y su dependencia de él, mientras que Bridges es un buen antagonísta, que asume su maldad y no tiene problemas para mostrarla sin caretas.

Al igual que la falta de profundidad de los personajes, existe poca profundidad en cuanto a guión, el espectador tendrá que hacer concesiones y entregarse a algunas situaciones que no son del todo coherentes, como la facilidad con la que los helicopteros de rescate descubren a un hombre que vaga por el abrazador desierto afgano o la habilidad de Stark para crear la fuente de energía más poderosa del planeta, a base de desechos, en una cueva. Sin embargo, la gran fuerza de la cinta radica en sus impresionantes efectos especiales. Yo soy de esos que piensan que los efectos son un acompañamiento necesario y que ellos no deberían ser considerados como un personaje aparte, o como la única razón para ver una película, sin embargo, en este caso la utilización de la gráfica no sólo le da un respiro a una historia que cojea, sino que además es un excelente acompañamiento en las escenas de acción y de entrenamiento. Aunque no los efectos especiales no son un personaje en sí, Favreau logra presentarlos de una forma muy atractiva y sorprendente. Me imagino lo genial que debe haber sido ver esta película en pantalla grande.

A pesar de los fallos, de la historia semi convincente, de los personajes casi planos, Jon Favreau y los guionistas Mark Fergus, Hawk Ostby, Art Marcum y Matt Holloway, nos entregan una película entretenida que sufre ahora el efecto Post The Dark Knight, cuya larga sombra la opacará como la mejor película de superhéroes de la historia. El problema fundamental de las cintas de la Marvel, es que les cuesta tomarse en serio. Será que Stan Lee, presente en todas y cada una de ellas, le encanta mantener el tono humorístico en sus historias o será que en su concepción sus héroes no son tipos con mucha profundidad. Sea como sea, este tipo de cintas están lejos de generar lo producido por Batman Begins o The Dark Knight y a menos que se tomen de verdad en serio, seguirán estando unos cuantos escalones más abajos. De todas formas, Iron Man funciona bien para entretenerse un par de horas y luego a guardarla por tiempo indefinido en el rack de DVDs.

Overrated beauty Eva Longoria (ABC's Desperate Housewives) has recently visited Marvel Studios' offices, leaving with a bunch of comic books and a business card, and apparently many believe she's in talks to play Wasp/Janet Van Dyne in the forthcoming Avengers movie planned for 2011 and set up by various other comic book films such as Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk.

Wasp is one of the first Avengers and a character I've surprisingly absolutely never heard of before. According to Wikipedia, Wasp's abilities include size manipulation, flight, bio-electric energy blasts and telepathic insect control... Eva Longoria is certainly sexy enough (at least with makeup on) but what do you think? Are you looking forward to Eva floating like a butterfly, stinging like a bee?

Well, not exactly yet, but new hotshot director D.J. Caruso (Disturbia) is in talks with Marvel Studios to helm the forthcoming 2010 Norse God movie.

There’s a fear I have about Thor and depending on what Thor story you want to tell, whether you want to bring Thor into the modern world or if you want to go back to Asgard and get the history of what’s happening between him and his brother and dad. That’s one I’ve always been interested in and it also would be, it would be a monumental task so, I could definitely see myself getting myself into that… I have had some talks with Marvel about it but I have not seen a screenplay. It could be something that I am interested in.

Thor has to be one of the forefront Marvel characters I'm least familiar with, but I'm of course excited at the prospect of the film and Caruso could be an interesting choice. Caruso's next thriller Eagle Eye debuts late September in America and Australia.

Marvel Studios has, thus far, proved to be a fantastic venture. The films to come out of Marvel Studios thus far have been truer to the characters, have been better written, and featured ensemble casts. This much cannot be argued. One could argue their effectiveness, i.e. Incredible Hulk's performance, but the films have been top notch.

However, I don't believe Marvel Studios is being implemented as effectively as it can be. The studio is a great opportunity because characters that ordinarily would not be given the opportunity to have a large scale theatrical release can be done in a tasteful manner, with a script worthy of the character. It was done with Iron Man, a film I never thought I'd see done right, and, for the most part, Hulk was fixed. That's all well and good, but I want to see the envelope pushed.

I want to see a full length feature film about Deadpool.

You say, at this point, the fans need to tell the studio what they want exactly, in order for you to make it. Well, I want a Deadpool movie. It wasn't necessarily possible before, but it is now, for a few reasons.

Firstly, people are starting to take comic book movies seriously. The Dark Knight wasn't just carried by its superior acting - the film provided a social commentary on complex issues such as freedom and morality, human nature and chance. This newfound ability by the public to actually look at comic movies like they do ordinary films means you can cover a lot of the issues the character Deadpool deals with and not come off as being hackneyed. The issue of morality in Deadpool books has always been worth examining, and a feature film will expose many to the character, and his nuances, in a way that his new series isn't going to be able to. Deadpool has always provided an interesting take on the cost of life - how far one person would go to maintain his, and how far he can go before he loses his humanity - and what is humanity exactly?

The character provides breathing room for development, has an interesting origin story that won't necessarily weigh down the film (especially since it looks like he's going to be in that Wolverine flick in 2009), and, let's face it, would just be fun to watch.

the Merc with the Mouth has always been a fan favorite, and has garnered a cult following, making his way into many of Marvel's newer ventures, including X Men Legends 2, Ultimate Alliance, and Hulk Vs. Wolverine. As the character gains in popularity, a feature length film is the next logical step in his progression. I mean, even Howard the Duck got one. Isn't there any justice in the world?

See, Deadpool could be that R-rated film that The Punisher was supposed to be - action-packed, bloody, serious, while maintaining a sense of humor. It fits perfectly in line with the type of films Marvel Studios is making a name for itself doing, just a little edgier.

Marvel's always made a name for itself by being a bit edgier. When X-Men came out, the blatant metaphor for race relations was a slap in the face to many. When Marvel published Amazing Spider-Man without the Comics Code Authority seal, it was edgy. When Marvel killed Captain America, it was edgy. Marvel Studios has the opportunity to carry on Marvel's tradition of being pioneers, this time for the comic book movie institution. We - loyal Deadpool fans, nay, loyal Marvel fans - want to see it happen.

The time is right, and we loyal fans of Deadpool deserve to be able to walk into a theater at midnight on a Thursday with overpriced popcorn and soda, and for just two hours, get to know the Merc with the Mouth just a little better.

In short, when it comes to watching characters we know and love manifested onscreen, make mine Marvel Studios, get the rights to Deadpool back, and make a Deadpool movie already!

If this doesn't get all of you Marvel/Capcom/Fighting game fans excited I don't know what will.  Lets face it, I went into Gamestop the other day to buy a used version of Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, guess what, $79.99 was the price.  $80 for a used PS2 GAME!  I mean really, if that's not confirming how popular this series is, then I don't know what is.  If you go onto Ebay, you'll be lucky to find it for under $100 a piece. 

Naturally since the beginning of time, Marvel & DC have competed and copied each others moves through their long history as #1 & #2.  So this could be Marvel's answer to Mortal Kombat vs. DCU.  To me, I'm a Marvel fan through and through, so Marvel vs. Capcom is much more appealing that MK vs. DCU.

Here's to hoping that it gets announced soon!

This 1994 version was never released or ment to be infact, in an interview with filmmaker Kevin Smith, Fantastic Four creator Stan Lee said that, unbeknown to the cast and crew, this movie was never intended to be released, and was made only because the studio who owned the rights to make a Fantastic Four movie would have lost the rights if they did not begin production by a certain date. Silly really, the special effects are really funny to watch.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, it will be on PS3, Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Wii. To be honest I'm not liking the graphics myself, what is supposed to be next-gen it doesn't look that fancy, maybe its just the quality of the video, hmm check out the trailer here yourself and see what you think.

Marvel is reportedly close to a deal with writer Justin Theroux to to write the sequal to the giant hit Iron Man. It has also been announched that they are close to a deal with director Jon Favreau and star Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man 2 is expected to be released in 2010.

It’s not officially announced yet, but I’m told that Marvel Studios and Iron Man director Jon Favreau have reached a deal for him to helm the sequel, due out in 2010. (Robert Downey Jr had a sequel clause in his contract so he’s on board.) Marvel Studios boss David Maisel was quick to put out a “definitely” richer offer to Favreau, but not quick enough for Jon — who used the Internet and other media to rile up the movie’s many fans by spreading nonsense that Marvel was dragging its feet and then lowballing him.

Overall this sounds good that Favreau is back to direct it. Lets hope he wows us with this one
