Primeiro as coisas boas...

Pues no tp!

1- Uma plataforma principal de desenvolvimento e depois sendo portada para outra(s);

2- Desenvolvimento simultâneo, aproveitando o melhor de cada console para deixar o jogo idêntico;

One element of appeal I completely missed in my Mega Man 9 post was the cost factor. As I said before, I applaud the aesthetic direction Capcom's taking this one. But I hadn't really considered what that lo-fi design choice could mean for the bottom line, until I read Chris Kohler's great piece on Koji Igarashi and the latest installment in the Castlevania franchise.

There's already quite a bit of negative press surrounding Castlevania Judgement, and with very good reason. How the hell does a head-to-head fighter fit in the Castlevania universe? Symphony of the Night and Rondo of Blood were terrific recent entries in the series, so it's not like Konami forgot how to make a good vampire-slaying game starring the Belmont clan.

The fighting game approach it just feels like Konami's blatantly going back to the well to take advantage of die-hard Castlevania fans, and sullying their sturdiest franchise in the process. And it gets so much sadder when you realize Igarashi couldn't get the budget for a true followup, so the Konami braintrust's next move is "toe-to-toe brawler."

And that's why Capcom's decision to go 8-bit is so brilliant. Mega Man 9 will feel like a true followup in the series, probably even more so than Mega Man 7 and 8. It can be cranked out by a tiny staff (compared to most current-gen development teams), and delivered via Wiiware for what EA probably spent on snacks on bottled water for the Madden '09 build cycle. And, they can bench test a bunch of new, fresh-out-of-school designers before dropping them into more heavy-duty design teams for the next Resident Evil or Lost Planet games.

I hope Konami thinks about taking Castlevania back to its roots in similar fashion. Of course, a new Zombies ate my Neighbors wouldn't hurt while they're at it.

As posted on xbox360achievements.org

Previously, any PC user who wanted to play "ranked" games, earn online achievements or partake in cross-platform play (for games like Shadowrun, Universe at War and Lost Planet: Colonies) would have to pay the same monthly fee as normal Xbox 360 Live users for a Gold account, reagrdless if they even owned an Xbox 360 or not.

As of today, PC users will no longer be required to have said Gold account to receive the benefits of Xbox Live on the PC. Truly, this should have been the policy from the beginning, but I feel that Microsoft may be getting ready to push more games onto the PC and could not do so with most PC gamers currently loathing them for being charged for something they would receive for free from any other company (Valve, Blizzard, etc.). Anyone who has played a PC game until now would be hard pressed to even find an opponent using the ranked quick search. You'd have to search unranked games, as most users refused to pay for a Gold account.

This won't really affect most of us achievement whores out there who got into PC gaming for the extra achievements since we already have the Gold account from our 360, but this is great news for us regardless, as the more popular Games for Windows Live becomes, the more likely it will be for companies to add achievement functionality. To view a FAQ about PC gaming and a current list of Games for Windows Live games with achievements, head here.

- Nintendo presenta Wii music

Yakuza 2: Septiembre 2008

Little Big Planet: Octubre de 2008

Resistance - Retribution : Primavera de 2009

I am Alive: Primavera de 2009

Quickly before I forget, I have to apologize for my quick dismissal of the EA press conferenece yest

Quickly before I forget, I have to apologize for my quick dismissal of the EA press conferenece yesterday. I have now watched it and it is the best one yet. They may not have announced anything new or huge, but they got to the point. With the a few exceptions, there were no "look how awesome we are" statistics thrown up on the screen. They had the best presenters (Will Wright and Peter Moore) and constant gameplay/trailer action. By far the most entertain conference of the show. Go watch it now.

Nintendo Press Conference

When the most exciting thing at your press conference is the sword fighting minigame in Wii Sports 2, something is wrong. Most people would probably argue that Animal Crossing: City Folk is more exciting, and if that is true for them I'm very glad. Unfortunately, I'm not an Animal Crossing fan. I wish I was more excited for it, but I'm getting ahead of myself. Back to the begining of the conference.

First up, they showed off Shaun White Snowboarding which will use the Balance Board. Looked fine enough, dispite my unnatural hate for Shaun White (most likely cause by the fact that he is my age and has more talent than I). Think they will sell it with a Balance Board or do you have to get Wii Fit to get one?

The next game shown off was Animal Crossing: City Folk. The long talked about game is finally coming out on the Wii and with more connectivity (or so it seems) than I had ever expected Nintendo to give it. It will come with the new Wii Speak microphone. This "community microphone" sits atop the sensor bar allowing a room full of people to communicate back and forth with another room full of people. This is a really cool idea and makes me wish I cared about Animal Crossing and then had multiple friends who also cared about it. The obvious hope here is that they would bring chat to other games, past (Mario Kart, Smash Bros.) and future games. Future seems possible but I highly doubt they will patch it into their back catalog.

City Folk itself looks like more Animal Crossing. The town stuff looks very similar to the game I played on Gamecube years back. The new addition, the city, looks cooler. It is filled with shops and a cool circular world perspective. They showed off some, hopefully, online player interaction, with 4 friends all fishing together. I'm sure there will be many hurdles to climb to get to the point where you and some friends can go on a fishing trip, including but not limited to a long number code and the inability to invite people effectively. I need a lot more convincing before I need to buy a game where the one of the main selling points is being able to send a letter to my friend telling them they are my friend (it's in the trailer).

A few new DS games were also shown off. The most surprising and least talked about was GTA: Chinatown Wars. Color me intruiged. It's coming from Rockstar and being made specifically for the DS. I can't think of how that will work well, but I'm not a game designer so I will give them the benefit of the doubt until I see otherwise.

The next and less interesting DS titles were Cooking Guide and a new Guitar Hero. Let's start with Cooking Guide. Originally a Japanese "help with your life" kind of game, it will now make its US debut. This nongame is simply a cookbook. No minigames here, just recipes. I am clearly not the target market for this, so my commenting will cease before it turns snarky, leaving all my snark for...a new Guitar Hero: On Tour! Oh yes, we will be getting Guitar Hero: On Tour: Decades. Yep, that would be a subsubtitle. There are very few details, the only one that stuck out is some sort of "song sharing." I have no idea what that could mean in a DS Guitar Hero context, nor do I care. I'm sure this one will be just as uncomfortable to play as the last one.

Next, we have my favorite part. Wii Sports Resort. A new Wii Sports game that will come with their new peripheral that was announced Monday, the Wii Motion Plus. This is a little nub that plugs into the bottom of your Wiimote and gives it greater accuracy and 1:1 motion. That's all well and good, but why wasn't that in it to begin with? That aside, they could do something amazing with this, but instead we get more Wii Sports with it. Fine, I can accept that and pretend like they will actually do something cool with it next. This new Wii Sports is full of summery type games such as frisbee and jet skiing. But it totally won me over with sword fighting. While not a traditional summer sport, at least not that I know of, it stole the Nintendo show. This is what Wii Boxing should have been. It looks like a precise, motion following sword fighting minigame. You block with the Wiimote, your mii blocks with their sword. Can not wait. Now someone make a non minigame out of this please.

For the finale, Nintendo finally showed off Wii Music again. From what I could tell this game involves pressing any buttons in any order that in turn play a preselected song. While it does boast "over 50 instruments" that does not change the fact that it is a terrible idea. People slag on Guitar Hero and Rock Band for not being a real musical skill, and say what you want, at least it is some kind of skill. This is just pressing buttons and nothing more. There is a drum mode, which they had a professional drummer showing off. While better than the "press any button you want" horns, it was pretty impercise. He was clearly hitting a snare when he was going for a high hat a good deal of the time. At the end they brought out a few people to play together in a band. This was harder to watch than the Microsoft execs making a crappy B movie yesterday.

The feint light at the end of the tunnel is that the Mario and Zelda teams are both working on Wii titles. But that didn't come out until after the conference.

The best of the rest

I will get to Sony and Activision tomorrow, no worries. The other two press conferences of the day were fairly uneventful. We can skip right over Capcom who, instead of showing fun things like RE5 or Bionic Commando, spent the entire time talking about the Lost Planet movie. The movie will be written by David Hayter and everyone is very excited to be working with everyone. The more enjoyable press conference was given by Ubisoft. They showed off their known titles (Raving Rabbids, Brothers in Arms, EndWar, Farcry 2). Then moved on to their girly games that involve imagining things, petz, and Ener-G. Shaun White came out to shill for his game again, 360/PS3 version this time, but no need to talk about that. Finally, we get to the good stuff. New Prince of Persia trailer and gameplay demonstration. Fucking beautiful. Boiling the combat down to you and your lady friend versus one creature who is powerful enough to kill you looks like it is going to give us some amazing battles. The prince looks as acrobatic as ever and just as fun to play, even if he doesn't have his time sand any more. I can't get over how good the game looks, from a graphical stand point. Their last trailer is for their brand new game, I Am Alive. After some sort of disaster, you have to fight for your survival. Much like Assassin's Creed last year, I'm sure there is more going on in the story then they are letting on. The seemingy always smiling Jade Raymond, who also worked on Creed, is rumored to be working on it.

Now, read, click, watch, enjoy. I must sleep.

More David Hayter news now and for some unknown reason I didn't know he was penning the script for a move adaptation of Lost Plantet (probably because I don't give a rat's arse about Lost Planet). According to Mr. Hayter himself a deal with Warner Brothers is almost confirmed and is "just closing" but isn't quite confirmed yet.

This is good news for fans of the Lost Planet franchise. Hayter has already written screenplays for X-Men which obviously makes him understand the type of culture surrounding games and such. Not only that he seems to like Lost Planet a fair bit too.

Hayter said: "There is gap in Hollywood between people who write good movies and those who appreciate good video games," The voice of (undoubtedly) the best video game character ever (you can quote me on that). Hayter said he tries "to make an effort to take the essence of the game, keep as much of that as possible, and still put it into a proper film structure."

With Solid Snake's scriptwriting this movie does intrigue me now but not so much that i'll be researching the Lost Planet franchise like some over eager recluse just to swot up on the lore of the thing. Although the game did always look pretty cool if it comes down to a tenner I might just pick it up.

Brian Kescenovitz, a very talented fellow, was the designer of this badass Lego mech. The mech, named UM-5, has a fully functional hatch mechanism that reveals the tiny lego pilot.

The mech was inspired by the Xbox 360 game, Lost Planet. I can see the resemblance, but what I want is a break down of pieces so I can make one of these, it looks super awesome. I've always wondered why lego and video game makers don't get together to make lego inspired models. A lego warthog would be amazing!

Since the original announcement of Resident Evil 5 nearly three years ago, the game's release date has been shrouded in more mystery than the shady doings of the series' nefarious Umbrella Corporation. However, Capcom has now shed a little light on the game's release date in a business strategies presentation follow-up to its fiscal 2007 results, announced earlier this week. In a section on the publisher's projections for its fiscal 2008 year (which runs until March 31, 2009), Capcom said it "aims to sustain solid growth by introducing Resident Evil 5 and titles in other core franchises." The publisher broke down a few of its sales expectations, with the next installment in the survival horror franchise projected to sell 2.3 million copies worldwide. The upcoming Bionic Commando revamp is expected to sell 1.5 million units worldwide, while Lost Planet: Colonies' success is pegged at 610,000 copies. Capcom also touted its Monster Hunter franchise, which is exceptionally popular in Japan. Monster Hunter Freedom 2G for the PlayStation Portable was launched in March, and the publisher expects the Asia-only release to rack up 1.5 million in sales in its first year on shelves.

More ill-tidings for E3 Media & Business Summit runners the Entertainment Software Association today. It has confirmed with id Software that it will not be renewing its membership with gaming-industry representative body the Entertainment Software Association. Following initial confusion over id's E3 presence, the ESA revealed earlier this week by omission that id Software has yet to sign on to this year's show, which runs July 15-17 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Earlier this month, long-time id Software publisher Activision and its soon-to-be merged partner Vivendi Games initiated the ESA exodus by revealing they would not be renewing their membership dues and had no intention of attending this year's show. Activision Blizzard were then followed out the door by LucasArts, though the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed publisher said it still plans on attending the ESA's annual gaming exhibition.Speculation over what has inspired the growing unrest over the ESA reached a fever pitch earlier this week when it was revealed through tax documents that the lobbying group had forfeited nearly $5.4 million in event-cancellation fees to move E3 from LA to Santa Monica in 2007. The IRS filing also indicated that ESA membership fees had spiked from about $1 million in 2006 to roughly $4.5 million in 2007 as a result of the dramatic down-scaling of its revenue-generating trade show.

In preparation for the mega-studio's event, it's launched a new video portal called uPlay, to showcase its upcoming line-up. The portal will officially launch on May 29, during the second day of Ubidays, but there are six videos already available including one with JC Guyot, creative director on the new Prince of Persia game, who unveils a speed drawing of one of the prince's supporting character, Elika. There's also a link to a locked trailer that, while pixelated, also appears to be Prince of Persia related. Far Cry 2 producer L.P. features in a short welcome video to tell fans the FC2 development team will be at Ubidays and that the game "might be on display and, actually, it might even be playable on different platforms." Other videos include the quirky Rabbids Secrets to Health and Happiness, starting one of those pesky rabbids and the Wii Balance Board, hinting at a possible Rayman game in development for Wii, while Dedication and Responsibility focus on snowboarding, which is no doubt a nod to Ubisoft's upcoming Shaun White Snowboarding game. A Tom Clancy's EndWar trailer entitled The Power of the Voice, promotes the fact that the game will be "playable entirely with voice command" and Invitation features Gearbox Software president Randy Pitchford, who will show a new trailer and gameplay footage from Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway at Ubidays. In addition to the trailers, the "opening conference will be broadcast live on www.uplay.com on Wednesday 28th May at 7:00pm Paris time [6:00pm GMT, 10:00am PT]," according to a statement from the publisher.

The Resident Evil and Street Fighter series have both already been made into movies, but Capcom wants to see more of its game properties coming to Hollywood. In an interview with Bloomberg, Capcom president and chief operating officer Haruhiro Tsujimoto confirmed that the company was in talks to adapt other game properties into celluloid, but he refused to name them. He said, "We are in the process of working out contracts for several offers we received at the Cannes Film Festival last week and hope to make an announcement soon. If realized, the projects will have a big impact on the game and movie industries." Tsujimoto added that, "We want to do with games what Marvel did with comics," referencing the success of the numerous Spider-Man and X-Men film adaptations. Three previous movies have already been based on Capcom's zombie-killing survival horror franchise Resident Evil (known as Biohazard in Japan). A second Street Fighter-inspired film, Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is currently in development, slated for release in early 2009. Other Capcom properties that could become movies include the successful Devil May Cry series, Breath of Fire, Lost Planet, Bionic Commando, Viewtiful Joe, Mega Man, and Phoenix Wright.

The head of the International Olympic Committee thinks gamers should put down their controllers and get into sport instead. The 66-year-old president of the organisation, Jacques Rogge, has told The Times that he is concerned about the aging audience of the Olympics and wants to get more youngsters interested in competitive sports. The average age of a participant is 24, but the average Olympic viewer is 46, and an IOC member age is 61.7. Rogge told the newspaper, "Kids are attracted to visual, interactive forms of communication. It's not going to be easy for sport to counter that. You won't hear me saying sport is not fun, it is. But it requires austerity and discipline. The answer is achievement. You will never achieve in a video game. It is not really success." The IOC head also believes that the popularity of screen-based entertainment, be it games or movies, has led the latest generation to a more sedentary lifestyle. In an attempt to gain the hearts and minds of the youth of today, Rogge has instructed the 3,500 athletes participating in the Beijing 2008 Olympics to spread the word that sport is cool via Facebook and other social networking sites. He commented, "The idea is, 'Hey, we should be practicing sport.' It's all a different generation to me, but I see the potential to get the message across. We need to hire more young people. If they have baggy pants and pink hair, that's OK."
