Last nite I had a great time listening to Candace Bushnell talk about her new book,"One Fifth Avenue". She read an exerpt out of her book and the audience really loved her. The room was filled with stylish women and a full house...if I must say so! It was held at the legendary Margaret Mitchell house.Im new to Atlanta, and had no clue that this bookstore/museum was named after the great author who wrote,"Gone with the Wind"...wow! That was the only book Margaret ever wrote. Candace talked about some of her characters in the book, her past and love for English writers. She said she thought books were glamourus and often asked her parents why they didnt have butlers and maids. She talked about at 34,she moved to NY.She couldnt afford alot of things. She had no car,no real estate,furniture,silverware...just making an average salary in the beginning.

Candace loved to read books as a little girl. When she visited the library as a youngster, she would often read books that were not appropiate for her age lol. Candace talked about how Carrie Bradshaw was the one character that was the closes to her own image. In 1994,she really was a columinist(Sex and the City) for the NY Observer. She really did have a "Mr.Big". The 49 yr old, talked about how she likes to create characters that has flaws,or that are needy. She said alot of her books are,"Art versus Commerce".Candace says she writes about 3-5 pages daily. There is no routine and that if you would like to be a writer or anything else, you just have to be committed. Committed and focused is the key. She said in being an author there is no instant gratification and to really trust your gut!

She did talk about how she loves Atlanta and how the women here wear great shoes, and are true divas! Women in Atlanta are very sophisticated..oh, I like her! I got a chance to let her sign my copy of,"One Fifth Avenue" and Im already half way through the book, so you guys go pick up a copy its good reading!

I was bored the other day and found myself looking through the latest edition of TV Guide (BTW I'm a TV Guide purist. I liked the smaller booklet of TV listings only compared to the glorified magazine they have now). I came across an interesting section about some of the early TV Ratings from the early portion of the fall season. Something caught my eyes: The season premiere of Heroes only had 9.9 million viewers in its first show in nine months thanks to the writers' strike. This was way down from last year's 14.1 million. This is an alarming occurence and caused me to do some research.

It is possible that the strike could have an impact on how many viewers return this fall to TV shows. It seems especially alarming to those shows that did not return at all after the strike. It seems quite dangerous to go close to a full year without airing anything new. Now I am not worried about popular shows like Heroes since a drop in their ratings does not put them in any danger still. However, I am worried about the several shows that have not been doing well and were already borderline cases coming into this year. Think of a show such as Friday Night Lights for example.

I also came across some information on the internet about some of the shows that are off to a slow start this fall. TV By the Numbers has a Renew or Cancel Index which judges how likely current shows are to be cancelled at the end of the current season. There are some shows that are putting up some very disappointing and dangerous numbers so far (It only includes shows that have already premiered this year). Some shows in dangerous situations right now are Til Death, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Lipstick Jungle, Knight Rider, Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles, My Name is Earl, and Prison Break.

This would worry me if I worked in television and especially if I was on one of those shows coming back from a long layoff. Now I know these numbers are only as of September 30th and their ratings could very well improve. Also it is true that some shows are received well by the critics, like Old Christine and Earl, and will be given more chances to succeed. However, the fact remains that numbers are down early on and more shows could be in trouble than I would have thought. I think of those borderline shows that I watch and I worry. This could be a make or break year for some of these shows. I have a feeling there will be a good deal of turnover next year.

Ela já engliu tanta coisa daquele prepotente chato...

The Wife:
For the first time ever while watching Lipstick Jungle, I have actually enjoyed Victory Fo

The Wife:

For the first time ever while watching Lipstick Jungle, I have actually enjoyed Victory Ford’s story the most out of our three protagonists. I’ve made it pretty clear that Victory is my least favorite character on this show. I don’t think that she has the kind of depth that Wendy or Nico have, nor does she have the maturity or the intellect. Victory has always felt like the weak point compared to the other two members of this power trifecta: she just always feels too flighty and unstable to be friends with such established women as Nico and Wendy. And yet, to her merit, of the three, Victory is the best, most loyal friend. What she can’t seem to make sense of in her own life, she somehow seems to make sense of in others’ lives.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="You just don't understand doorknobs like I understand doorknobs, Andrew McCarthy."][/caption]

This week, she finally began to take charge of her own life. When Joe hires an expensive contractor to design the interior of Victory’s new store without her consent and refuses to allow her input on any design decisions, Victory runs into an attractive contractor with similar views and hires him to do the job without consulting Joe. (Although, I did love the moment where Joe displays the Good-Fast-Cheap triangle on the barren wall of Victory’s store and explains to her these basic rules of building anything . . . and then applies them to his sexual relationship with Victory: “neither fast nor cheap . . . hmm.”)

Victory and Rodrigo go on a sort-of date to a midnight antiques market, scouring the first unloads of the night to find the perfect reclaimed fixtures for the store. And this is where I really began to like Victory: Rodrigo shows her a pair of antique doorknobs, and the pair tell a romantic story about a G.I. coming home from the war to his young wife, turning that very knob on his apartment door and announcing to his bride that they could finally begin their lives together. This is the first time I’d seen Victory display some sort of depth. She understands the secret history of objects and the beauty in that history. This is something I wish I’d known earlier so I didn’t spend 8 episodes being annoyed as hell by her.

As usual, she was a good friend to her assistant, Roy, whom she discovers from the store security cameras has been sleeping in the store for weeks. Roy tells her that he was evicted from his apartment after his boyfriend drained his bank accounts and ran off to Fort Lauderdale. Oddly, that is exactly what happened to my brother. In an effort to help her friend, Victory decides to follow Joe’s earlier advice and rent the upstairs unit so that Roy can live rent-free.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="No more missing wig fittings for chemo, mister."][/caption]

Wendy’s upcoming Beatles movie runs into some production trouble when her friend and star Noah starts missing readings and costume fittings. Thinking that he perhaps has started using drugs again, Wendy stages an intervention, and convinces Noah that she can push production back so that he can take six weeks in rehab to get his shit together. Noah’s wife comes to Wendy in secret and explains that Noah isn’t using drugs, but that he is, in fact, dying of a rapidly-advancing brain tumor. Wendy risks her job and falsifies the physical examination forms so that they can move the production schedule up in order to wrap before Noah starts to show symptoms of his disease. Clearly, this is all going to catch up with Wendy next week in a very negative way.

As for Nico, she struggled with finding her place in the world as a widow and was confronted by her husband’s mistress, who demanded that she be taken care of in the way Charles had been up until the time of his death. At first, Nico is outraged and demands a restraining order against Megan, but later, after spending a lot of time reclaiming her late 20s with Kirby out at swap-a-palooza, she realizes that she has a lot more in common with Megan than she thought. At 22, Megan is giving up her life to raise Charles’ baby, much like Nico herself did at 24 when she married Charles. Nico gives Megan a considerably large check, an agreement to provide medical care and even sets up a trust fund for the baby. As she begins to pack away all of Charles’ things, Nico even gives Megan the brown v-neck sweater she had asked for, to remember Charles’ by. I’m proud of Nico for letting go in this way, and finally being able to start a real relationship with someone who truly adores her: Kirby.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="So even though I'm being nice to you, that doesn't mean you should drop by anymore, okay?"][/caption]

In another note, I finally realized in this episode what bothers me about the actress who plays Megan, Shannon McGinnis: her voice. Her voice is Tina Majorino’s voice, but coming out of the wrong face, and that’s really odd to me.

But it's not Brooke's stunning looks or eyebrow-raising roles that make us love her.

Want to know the real reasons we love Brooke Shields? Check it out:

She's smart. Like, really smart. She broke from acting to study French literature at Princeton, and wrote her senior thesis on Louis Malle (who directed her in the controversial film Pretty Baby).

2. She's seriously well-connected. Her grandmother was an Italian princess, and she's got family ties to figures like Jackie Kennedy, Glenn Close, and countless European royalty!

3. She doesn't give up easily. Brooke lost many roles because of her height-- at 6 feet tall, she towered over many male actors. But with her amazing comeback on NBC's Lipstick Jungle, she towers over her competition as well!

Garçom: Posso anotar seu pedido?
Wendy: Scotch, por favor.
Waiter: Buchanan?
Wendy: Com certeza.
Waiter: Single malte?
Wendy: SIm, por que não?
Waiter: 15 ano? 20 anos?

Ih, verdade, season finale chegando...

The ladies of Lipstick Jungle really have it going on -- especially with their wardrobes! I love each and every one of their outfits; from Niko's beautiful and sophisticated dresses, to Victory's out-there outfits, to Wendy's sleek get-ups, it's definitely outfits I would wear.

I'm watching Lipstick Jungle, and Victory is walking down the street and happens to run into a man. That's realistic. Where I get caught up is that he's attractive, employed, and shows interest in her as well. Not to mention the fact that he happens to be a contractor and she's conveniently in need of a contractor. The only way that this becomes believable is if he's married, has 4 kids by 4 baby mamas or just got out of prison and is still caught up in temptation. (Am I jaded much?). We'll see how that goes.

I'm not saying it's unrealistic, but Niko definitely took the high road when she gave money to her late husband's jump-off. I'm a firm believer in letting things go, but she seemed to evolve at rocket speed, right?

The Wife:
Nothing says “Our meager half-season actually made it to TV because of the strike

The Wife:

Nothing says "Our meager half-season actually made it to TV because of the strike" quite like starting your new season with "Chapter 8" of something. What a random number and what a random way of titling episodes.

Regardless, Chapter 8 actually felt like a very natural place to begin a second season of this show, as Chapter 7 left off with Nico (Kim Raver) making amends with her husband on his sick-bed and vowing to herself and her friends never again touch the man candy that is Kirby Atwood.

Nico did not tell Charles about the affair, and never intended to . . . until he brought home photo of her naked back that Kirby had taken. The photograph acts as Nico's tell-tale heart, silently reminding her of her misdeeds as it glares at her from the wall. Wendy and Victory assure her that Charles was simply subconsciously drawn to the photo because it is, after all, of her and that proves that Charles still adores her. Nico goes to Kirby to try to get him to un-sell the photograph, but ultimately ends up confessing her affair to Charles after he refuses to have sex with her and her newly plumped G-spot. She accuses him of cheating with one of his students, which is a legitimate fear considering Nico was once Charles' student, but he denies her accusations.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption="Look, Nico, it's shirts vs. skins. And if you wanna play, you're gonna have to play skins."][/caption]

The G-spot plumping, by the way, was an incredibly lame subplot that really didn't fit in with the tone of this episode at all. I've seen this plot on other shows and it worked a lot better on them. For instance, on Nip/Tuck when Sean gives a client a G-spot plump and violates her (sort of) during the procedure, the client later returns to have the collagen removed because she's so overstimulated that she cannot lead a normal life. Nico, on the other hand, seems to do this for no real reason at all. It is only what I can assume to be a failed bit of levity in an otherwise heavy episode.

The day after Nico's confession, Charles is admitted to the hospital for a double bypass. Nico, Wendy and Victory run into Charles' student, Megan, in the gift shop and learn that Megan has been having an affair with Charles and is carrying his child. Oops.

And then Charles dies. Oops.

Nico, distraught over this news and learning of the affair, tears through Charles' files and finds that he had known all along about her and Kirby, complete with surveillance photos, and was planning on filing a case for abandonment so that Nico would end up with the financial burden of the divorce. It seems that Wendy and Victory were wrong about that photograph of Nico, after all.

Meanwhile, Wendy's mom, Mary Tyler Moore, came to visit and criticize her daughter for taking less time at the office after Wendy catches her teenager Maddie out at a bar. Props to Wendy for paying attention to her children, unlike the parents on Gossip Girl and 90210 who really don't have any fucking clue where their children are going when they say they're studying for a math test. No props to Mary Tyler Moore for having so much plastic surgery on her face that she no longer looks like human.

Victory is still battling with Joe Bennett for autonomy within her company, which he secretly bought at the end of Season 1 and which I can only presume is how he shows affection. She spent this episode looking for a retail space in which she could open a boutique store, only to wind up in a space owned by . . . Joe Bennett. I've always felt that Victory's strange desire to get away from Joe in the business world is a little odd. Joe is a billionaire for a reason. He's a great person to have as an investor in the Victory Ford line, and paying rent to Joe Bennett for the best retail space in midtown is not a bad thing. The fact that Victory can't separate her personal life – in which she chose to break from Joe – and her business life speaks to a certain emotional immaturity that I just don't understand. I mean, really. Joe was a great guy, and her resistance doesn't make any sense to me at all. Sure, he slept with someone else, but that was after they had broken up. It's not like the horrible disastrous relationship that Nico and Charles had. Not even in the slightest.

And this brings me back to Nico and Charles. This episode had by far the most intricate plot any Lipstick Jungle episode has had so far, and I really, really enjoyed it. I wonder now, in the timeline of Who-Wronged-Whom in the House of Nico and Charles, which of them was cheating first. I have to assume Charles, what with the advanced pregnancy of his former student, and all. In which case, how dare he try to fuck over Nico like that. He's a dick, and he deserves people laughing at his funeral. Okay, maybe that's a little harsh, but seriously. Even if he had survived the surgery, he was going to be in some deep legal shit. Which, I suppose, allows Nico to enjoy the last, highly awkward, laugh.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="400" caption=""He left me for someone who sleeps in headgear." - Nico Reilly"][/caption]

The Fall TV Lineup has begun and I'm pretty excited to catch up on my favorite shows. One show that I accidently stumbled upon last fall was Lipstick Jungle. I was hooked. I love the characters and the story lines keep me engaged. I was quite happy that the first episode of the second season did not disappoint. So in honor of one of my guilty pleasures the Beauty Mavens of the Week are the ladies of Lipstick Jungle: Lindsay Price, Brooke Shields and Kim Raver.

Músicas do Episódio:

Kim Raver sempre foi a minha favorita no show, e eu a adorei aqui.

I’m bored, it’s 11pm on a Friday night and my boy is out with his friends in a town abou

I'm bored, it's 11pm on a Friday night and my boy is out with his friends in a town about an hour away. I shouldn't be bitter, it's my own damn fault for having NO CAR, thanks to my horrible bad luck and Asian house-wives in SUVs. ...Eh, I'm not so much "bitter" as just plain, utterly, insanely...can't think of anymore adjectives?...So, BORED will just have to do. Yes, I'm bored.

So, what do girls do when they're bored? They talk. Normally to each other, but seeing how my "best friend" is now banging my ex-fiance, I'm kind of a dead end with that situation, so, it's just you and me, WordPress. You and me, baby.

The agenda (ah, I've been watching too much politics! Too much talking about agendas!!)

1. My boyfriend and our issues (you thought I'd blog and NOT bitch about him?!)

2. School, Financial Aid and my father's 2007 earnings summary

3. Lipstick Jungle (don't laugh, I just watched it-told you I was bored-and it's already sucked me in)

And, whatever else I end up added after I write.

1: The Boyfriend

After being the balls in my last relationship, making all the calls and definitely having the upper hand, this is a huge change. At first I liked the independence that my boyfriend and I had together, yet, separate. We can make jokes about each other without fighting, we don't attempt to kill each other after 3 straight weeks together and some how we tolerate each others little quirks...like his World of Warcraft addiction and my inability to keep promises and arrive to places on time AND the fact I have a horrible memory. BUT-Not all things that glisten are gold, and, needless to say, he's not really the lovey-dovey boyfriend type. I'm good off of always kissing in public and having a guy open my doors, sure, it's nice, but I have to burn calories some how. After numerous comments from his friends that they didn't even KNOW we were together (after ~5 months), it's starting to irk me. We don't really sit next to each other, we occasionally have a smoke together outside and...that's about it. There's no doubt in my mind that we're madly in-love with each other, I'm just finding that the more I'm falling for him, the more I'm wanting him to appreciate and show affection toward me. I mentioned this casually and yeah, he's sat next to me, but I don't know, it makes me feel less...appreciated? I hate to make this into an episode of The Hills by being all sappy and retarded, but, as a woman, I'm pretty sure it's impossible to feel totally secure about yourself. I don't really want to mold him into the less dominate, pussified type of guy, because, I'm crazy and need some direction, but a simple, "you look nice today" or even a HUG would be nice...maybe even if he waited for me while walking-he tends to walk so fast that I'm nearly 20 feet behind him once we arrive at our destination (and I haul my ass!). I'm most likely talking to a wall, but, hey, this IS WordPress.

2: FUCK FAFSA

Last year my dad made over 140,000 thousand dollars. As of today, my father has 24 dollars in a checking account, a motorcycle and a GMC truck from 1997. We live in a nice million-dollar house in a nice country club oriented neighborhood in the San Francisco Bay Area, namely San Jose. You wouldn't think, but, because my parents got fucked in the ass by complete strangers, I'm a poor little 19 year old that needs help paying for school. You see, my parents had nearly 50 THOUSAND dollars taken just last year alone (and 19 thousand in previous years), I have no idea why they have such bad luck. Long story short, because of this, my parents don't own ANY credit cards (and can't) and after years of promising me my dream education, haven't even the smallest ability to help in paying for even a notebook for my Environmental Biology course at a community college. I know "shit happens" and I don't hold it against my parents, but...after recently filing with FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), I was rejected because of my father's "substantial income." I wish that some where, some how, on my application, I could note that sure, my dad makes that much money, but he also has supported my mother since the day I was born...and my mother's other child (my half sister) and her 3 spawns. That's a total of 7 people over $140,000 (minus the 50ish that was taken, remember!). Anyway, what makes me so mad is that a friend of mine recently received a $2,000 check to aid in living expenses on TOP of a fully-paid education. Her parents don't make MUCH less than my father and they have less children. I'm jealous, yes.... FAFSA calculated my family's contribution to my education as being $44,074...YEAH RIGHT. Uhhggg....

3: Lipstick Jungle

I rarely, rarely, NEVER EVER, get into these types of shows. I'll occasionally watch Sex in the City, but my true TV calling includes Adult Swim, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and Comedy Central. However, after coming across the pilot show (a re-run on Oxygen), I couldn't take my eyes away. First it was about Brooke Shields and her mother have a shitty relationship, then a lady getting a G-Spot collagen shot to spark her love life-when really she had an affair with a younger man, just to find out that the next day her husband-who is very mad at her-needed a double bypass for some reason-and at the hospital the Jungle girls find one of his students and she's PREGNANT, then...some other girl is looking for an apartment but the only one she likes happens to be owned by some guy she's in love with, much less entertaining than the other two. But...I am so addicted. And I don't know why. Chances are I'll never watch this ever again, and I'll probably make fun of the show the next time I blog, but you know what, I'M BORED AND IT'S FUCKING FRIDAY, DAMMIT.

And on another note, I'm starving and...I just realized that this is a pointless blog. Hurray.

Candace Bushnell ( Sex and The City, Lipstick Jungle and new book One Fifth Avenue) was on The View

Candace Bushnell ( Sex and The City, Lipstick Jungle and new book One Fifth Avenue) was on The View this morning promoting her new book and over dramatizing her emotional attachment to Lipstick Jungle, she claimed to " cry at the end of each episode." Mrs. Bushnell talked about women juggling marriage, career and family. Which got me thinking, Can women have it all and what exactly is all? As I hit 30 ( in December), I'm not married and don't have any children but I have a good job and am happily pursing my dreams. So, do I have it all or am I missing something? I think about the women I know, my mom, aunts, sisters etc.... some have kids, husbands and some don't but somehow they seem satisfied with what they do have. I think about Sarah Palin and Hilary Clinton ( marriage, family, kids, career), then I think about Oprah Winfrey and Condaleeza Rice. Do you have to choose? Can you have a family, marriage, kids, a career and a life??????

I say loudly YES YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!! But, you don't have to. The important thing is choosing what you want and making decisions that get you there.

Lipstick Jungle.

Lipstick Jungle.
