Chinese artist Li Wei from Beijing started off his performance series ‘Mirroring’ and later on took off attention with his ‘Falls’ series which shows the artist with his head and chest embedded into the ground. His work is a mixture of performance art and photography that creates illusions of a sometimes dangerous reality. Li Wei states that these images are not computer montages and works with the help of props such as mirror, metal wires, scaffolding and acrobatics.

China's success in eliminating clusters of Muslim insurgencies in the western province of Xinjiang may have pushed an alleged separatist movement across the border into Pakistan and Afghanistan, exposing it to greater influences by jihadi groups in those countries. >>>>>

It appears that many of world's secular, sovereign states have abandoned their fight against each other to somehow alienate their true threats -- Islam, because Muslims seem to not change their religious beliefs for the sake of world imperialism. It's interesting that the secular and only governments who are the permanent members of the United Nations: China, France, Russian Federation, United Kingdom and United States each have their oppressive histories and imperialistic agendas. Muslims were actually the ones relied upon for the front lines against these countries, and seem to have fought the hardest with the least resources.

These images from Chinese performance artist Li Wei are pretty sick. According to the aesthetic poetic, it's all mirrors, metal wires and scaffolding to create these illusions. Maybe it's unfortunate that in pictures, they could pass as being photoshopped; I'd love to see this in person. Someday?

He seems unduly fond of the white t-shirt and bluish shorts combo; maybe its his lucky inversion outfit? Or just to add to the colour scheme perhaps, which I quite like - a suprisingly unhazy freshness, like Dubai just after it rains before the dust has time to descend again. Most of these are taken in Beijing, I believe. I'm reminded of some kind of ultraelevated, frozen parkour kind of thing with some of these.

On conservative estimate the average person takes a bout 3,000 steps per day; that means that each day one experiences 3,000 tiny, controlled falls. Every time you take a step, you lean forward and fall slightly, and are caught by your outstretched foot. If you failed to put your foot forward, you would fall flat on your face. After your foot touches the ground, your body’s weight is transferred to it and your knee bends to absorb the shock. The front leg then lifts the body and propels it forward as the rear leg swings up to catch you again, and the cycle repeats.

Above some artists (left to right: Marc Chagall, Li Wei, Kerry Skarbakka, Denis Darzacq, Sam Taylor Wood, Stanley Forman) provide their observations on that moment where the body is dislocated from its connection to the ground. Unlike the myclonic jerks of sleep flight or falling, these pieces show the grace and fluidity of bodies removed from the ceiling and floor of relative gravity. The Icarusian desire to fly with such seeming grace undercuts its impossibility and the dangers of impact. Regardless, they are fleeting moments of serene beauty, the kind of falls we almost let ourselves take 3,000 times a day.

Trying to embrace the beauty of a fall in perpetuity.

Não! Ele não usa photoshop!
E Sim! O china é o protagonista dessas cenas bizarras.

O artista faz um belo trabalho, desafiando as leis da física, com cabos de aço e espelhos que faz com essas cenas sejam uma mistura entre realidade e fantasia.

Now that I have your attention, it seems that the good old American public is definitely taking this election seriously. Now that it's down to Barack Obama (D... for dumbass) and John McCain (R... for retard), there's a divide. Now a new poll has come out which states who the public would choose if the election were held today:

76.6% for the Yes-Man *hehehe*

Today’s inspiration was sparked by the travel plans of Nemo Design's Creative Director, Mark Lewman. He is on a plane today to China to be part of a pre Olympic art show. The "Lightning Bolt" show is supporting Nike’s sponsorship of BMX racing at the 2008 games. The venue is a converted oil tank located in downtown. The curiosity leads me to the work of Li Wei.

SHOCKING
As the world gets cluttered with images after image it really does become difficult to stand out and have a signature to work. Li Wei work is a cross between performance art and suicide. In action sports we had an underlying mantra of shut up and put up. Don’t tell me what you are going to do, show me. Li puts himself into the work, literally. He has suspended himself above the Beijing skyline to illustrate his vision. I can’t help but wonder if the adrenaline is a key part of the art.

PROGRESSION
It is hard to also progress a body of work and continue to re invent your vision. Sally Mann had a difficult transition after her inspiration, her family, grew up. Li seems to have let his thirst for adreline move his work. The simple magicians mirror trick of 2000 has grown into high wire production. For example, the performance/photograph titled Free Degree Over 29th Story (2003), in which Li Wei’s body appears to float from a window on the 29th floor of Beijing’s Jianwai SOHO office complex. In the image, his body is held in gravity-defying suspension. Arms outstretched, body rigidly horizontal, Li appears on the threshold of either soaring miraculously among the skyscrapers of Beijing’s Central Business District, or plummeting gloriously like Evel Knievel.

Li has gone on to exhibit his work internationally, including recent solo exhibitions in Hong Kong, Madrid, Beijing, and Milan.
