Like most warm-blooded females I know, I’ve been anxiously awaiting the Sex and the City movie

Like most warm-blooded females I know, I've been anxiously awaiting the Sex and the City movie release. Sad? Maybe. But I'm not afraid to admit it....nor am I afraid to admit the fact that I saw it on opening day (today—but more on that later).

Just in time for the movie's release, there's been some media brouhaha over a few comments supermodel Lauren Hutton made on the Today Show yesterday regarding Sex and the City's famous foursome. Essentially, she said that the show was written by a bunch of "guys, who happen to be gay, who are sluts" that wrote the characters to act the same way.

Hmmm. Her homophobic comment stands on its own as being totally inappropriate, so I don''t even have to go there. But, sluts? Really?

Aside from Samantha, who's more of a caricature than a real character, I never thought of any of the women as being promiscuous. Did they date? Yes. Date multiple men? Yes. Have sex? Yes.

But really, when you think about it, what are single women in their 30s supposed to do? Sit around the house wearing a chastity belt until Mr. Right shows up? Maybe, having fairly recently turned 30, I'm taking this a little personally, but I still think Ms. Hutton's comments are way off. Just because Carrie and company go out, have a little fun, maybe get a little serious or maybe don't makes them more entertaining, sure.

But it doesn't make them sluts. So there.

Lauren Hutton appeared on the “Today” show to publicize a new make-up line, but veered o

Lauren Hutton appeared on the "Today" show to publicize a new make-up line, but veered off to talk about the promiscuous gay male writers of "Sex and the City" and the character sluts they created. One problem: she's never actually watched the show.

She said:

"It's written by guys, who happen to be gay, who are sluts. That's what I think. Let's face it most men are sluts...You have a bunch a guys who are sluts, writing for women and telling them they are supposed to act like this... I've never seen the show. Are the girls like that or not?"

Well Lauren, granted many men are pigs, but I hate to break the news to you: there are some women who do sleep around. Of course you've been sheltered from all this working in the world of modeling. Because as everyone knows, models do not sleep around, they do not do drugs, nor do they have eating disorders. (I'm sure Anna Nicole Smith and Kate Moss are just the exceptions. Along with British model Sophie Anderton who worked in a brothel part-time when she wasn't high and having sex parties with both men and women.) And if women wish to sleep around, must we be so archaic as to call them sluts. Can't we just simply refer to them as happy.

By the way, I'm wondering why you chose to talk about something you have no knowledge of. You've actually never watched the show but seem to have formulated opinions about it. (Good thing for all of us you didn't start riffing about Islam or terrorism).

Just to catch you up to speed: the show and characters were based on the book written by Candace Bushnell, a woman. (And no, she's not gay or transgendered). Granted, gay Michael Patrick King was executive producer and wrote many episodes. But all the rest of the writers on the show were actually women. Who in many cases happened to be writing about their own experiences. The only character that could really be called a "slut" would be Samantha; the other three, not really.

So just a little friendly advice: just because you're on TV talking about your make-up doesn't mean you can make-up things. Because then someone like me comes along and says, well there you go, all models are a bunch of dumb-asses. "That's what I think".

Unfortunately this video won't embed in this blog, but here's a link to it. It's a clip of her accepting award on Bravo TV. It's all kinds of scary.

“Let’s face it most men are sluts. That’s what testosterone is supposed to do. As a hunter, if you stayed alive after 30, nature wanted your genes out there. Women were just trying to get the best sperm to make a masterpiece.

Tell 'em Lauren. AM I the only one who thought that the cast of Sex and the City had too much sex and had way to much time for sex.

As far as Lauren's facts are concerned about who is writing the show. There are approx. 120+ shows written by openly gay men and approx 94 shows written by a gay woman. Being "gay" has no undertone here, it's just matching facts with comments. I don't care what the writers do in their homes, all I have to do is turn that SATC crap off.

In my opinion, Sex and The City was a fashion marketers dream. Look at what it did, and what it's still doing, to the fashion industry. Kudos on the marketing. I would have never known what a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes or Manolo Blahnik shoes were if they didn't market them correctly within the show.

Tell me...Was Sarah Jessica Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw, writing involve sexual research to have sex with as many well hung or stubby and curvy (Ladies, you know what I mean) men as possible?

Sorry I got so graphic.

What a cock crock! I am taking Lauren Hutton's side on this one. About the men being sluts comment. Men are 'hoochies', too.

Well, some men. I guess, if you're reading my posts, you can't be a slut...right? I do grade on the curve. No sexual pun intended!

[In the show]... Samantha had 42 partners, Carrie and Charlotte had 18, and Miranda had 17.

I am not saying this is uncommon. I am quite sure, after writing and researching for this blog, that there are women that do this kind of sexcapades.

As a matter of fact, I recall a friend of mine in high school who had "scored" (I know that word is sooo 80's) with over 100 guys. I didn't know where she had so much time to have sex. I mean, I saw her in school and talked to her sooo much on the phone after school that she must have squeezed them in on the way home or something.

My point is, again, about being 'wholesome'. Where's the leadership to say that this "hood rat" and "hoochie mama" lifestyle is bogus and leads you nowhere?

I am surprised 'Mr.Big' would even bother to marry a chick that had so many sexual partners that she has to start using her toes to count them all.

And, what exactly does "Mr. Big" mean?

For the record, as far as all this sex talk goes, Seriously McMillan would probably play some sort of Sex In The City character based "Sandra Dee".

Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending the second annual F.I.R.E. session at Brains on Fire, a branding and identity agency based in Greenville, S.C. (Disclaimer: Brains on Fire is one of my PR clients).

Scott Ginsberg, the "name tag guy," and Richard Tait, one of the co-founders of the awesome game Cranium, spoke at the event, along with some of the leaders from Brains on Fire. I didn't come away with just one of those 'Let's Go Make a Difference!' feelings. I had that, but also a rejuvenation for what I do. It's fun to be around people who truly enjoy what they do for a living, and all of these people were living examples of folks who, for the most part, seem to like getting out of bed and going to work every day.

I feel so fortunate to be able to do what I do. My dad told me once, "The two most important decisions you'll ever make in your life are who you marry, and what you choose as your career." I've taken that to heart (see Dad, I do listen every once in a while). I think I married the best guy around, and I've tried to make career choices that inspire me and make me excited to go to work. Ever since I started my own business last year, I've had sense of excitement.

Don't get me wrong - there are good days and bad days, just like any career. But after attending the F.I.R.E. session yesterday, I'm reminded why I do what I do, and why I think it's fun.

I hope you're doing something you think is fun, too. Do it with purpose and make it count.

Oh, and as a side note, I also attended Greenville's TALK Magazine "Talk Live" luncheon yesterday, where Lauren Hutton was the keynote speaker. Even at 64, this woman is a knock out! Quite the character. She was nice enough to have her picture taken with me.

I'm headed to NYC later today for a tradeshow and to meet with some great media outlets while I'm there. I'll report back if anything interesting happens!

Made me "pee my pants" funny comments:

IC: January Jessicurl’s "How to Beat the Winter Blues" Contest

Go south, stay there, leave when it gets hot. This should be compulsory.

Tracy M:

Oh, Gimme gimme gimme! It was 5, yes FIVE degrees here this morning, and I’m thinking of taking a pumice stone to the dry skin on my legs. Have mercy

Cynthia Berry:

feel better, i mean! not butter!

Sylvie Argirakis:

I thought a nice trip to Aruba last year for my 40th b-day would help me beat the winter blues. It doesn’t. When I got back to Cleveland, it was below zero…and I was still 40! Even worse, it’s so hard to return to winter after 7 days of heaven. It was a great trip, but does not take care of those winter blues. So, what works? Chocolate seems to be the best answer to that question for me.

And although he didn't actually comment on the site, Tris Hussey wrote up a wonderful link to Mythbuster Beauty this week:

Part of the deal in Shai’s link love project is linking to the person who left the comment above you. For me that was Jen Hill of Mythbuster Beauty.

Yeah now that I’m done with the obligatory link you’d think I’m done right? You know me better than that!

I looked at Jen’s blog. Yeah makeup and beauty tips aren’t really up my alley. Okay I was given a pineapple-juice based exfoliant for men and I do use it once and a while (hmm my skin is feeling a little tight…), but that’s not what came to mind. Photography. That’s what struck me. I know nothing about makeup for photography! I doubt any woman in her right mind would let me apply makeup on them, but maybe I should read up on this a bit. I love taking pictures and if I ever want to do semi-professional stuff (like portraits) it might be good to know some tips for the ladies.

Okay … I think I’ll pass Jen’s blog onto my female friends, they will probably get more out of it anyway.

And Finally, the "really warms my heart" comments:

Teresa Hoyt:

Curling up with a hot cup of tea (coffee, cocoa, etc.) , a good book and a warm fuzzy blanket.

Susan Caldwell:

To beat the winter blues,
I take good care of myself physically….
I eat better, I make sure I get enough sleep,
I take my vitamins/mineral supplements,
I dance around the house with my favorite music,
I remind myself that summer is coming, and that
I will be complaining about the heat soon lol.

Samantha Freeman:

i LOVE to play Bingo all winter long, i don't so much in the summer, but living in Maine and having long winters, it also gives me a way to socialize.

Laurel:

Trying some of the stellar products that Jen has recommended is a great way to beat the winter blues. I have had so much success in doing so and am so grateful for Jen’s advice!

Many Thanks and here's to several great comments to look forward to in 2008! Who knows, sometime this year I might even get a comment from Oprah!

It is a fairly well-known fact that all celebrities will be cast into the flames of eternal damnation when they die. As a bouncer to the 7th Circle of Hades, I have my work cut out for me--deciding who gets through the gates and who does not can be a tough call at times. To make my job easier, I created a blog. Now, for the first time in history, readers can help determine which celebrities are worthy of entrance into the 7th Circle.

American Gigolo was a crap movie, but everyone looked so good in it that it hardly matters. I think that the sports-coat for men should make a comeback, it's such a nice option to the full suit (and by sports-coat, I don't really mean how all the boys wear blazers with jeans, but a suit type jacket that you wear with a co-ordinating, though not matching, pant). It also got me thinking about fuzzy hair, and how disdainful we are of it these days. Look at this picture of Lauren Hutton, the softer, fuller hair is quite nice.

and here is a picture of Richard Gere with the softer hair and the sports-coat (somehow the poster is just that much better in french):
