The U.S. Office on Violence against Women (OVW) defines domestic violence as a pattern of abusive behavior in any relationship that is used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner. Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional, economic, and psychological abuse.

This article is gender neutral; clearly both men and women can be victims of domestic violence and abusive behavior.

Most of us would agree that new technology is, in most cases, unbiased. It is how we implement technology that establishes its value, and impacts any ethical questions that surrounds its use. It is clear that virtually all technologies, if used improperly, can be used to cause damage.

Over the past year I have reviewed several computer monitoring and keylogger products which I must admit, I had not considered could be misused as an aid in spousal abuse until it was brought to my attention. I suppose I shouldn’t have been quite as surprised as I was; after all many of these products are advertised as a method to detect a cheating spouse.

Curious about this, I Googled “cheating spouse” and I was surprised to see over 900,000 hits. More surprising was the number of hits on “keyloggers for cheating spouse”; over 95,000.

Probing further, I discovered that this type of technology is now pervasive in spousal abuse. According to Anna Stepanov, manager of the Anti-Spyware program at McAfee Avert Labs, “Using spyware for surveillance in cases of domestic abuse is a serious matter.”

Stepanov, who is also the author of a report entitled Spyware: A Morphing Campaign, which describes current spyware trends that includes domestic abuse states, “Monitoring a victim’s online, cell phone, or general computing activity is of more value than ever in controlling or hurting a victim.”

Cindy Southworth, technology director at the National Network to End Domestic Violence commenting on this issue has stated “With spyware, if the victim is thinking about leaving, all that is captured. If the victim looks for plane tickets, shelters, a new apartment, it all shows up in the computer logs.”

Since spyware is now an issue in domestic abuse the agency cautions those in an abusive relationship not to use their home computer for these kinds of tasks.

All of this has now been compounded by the news that the misuse of GPS technology by abusive individuals is now rampant. GPS can be used to track a victim by transmitting coordinates that result in the generation of a web page that maps the victim’s location.

The U.S. National Network to End Domestic Violence suggests the following to computer users, to reduce the impact of this type of abuse.

Internet Safety Tips for Abused Women

If you are in danger, please try to use a safer computer that someone abusive does not have direct or remote hacking access to.

If you think your activities are being monitored, they probably are. Abusive people are often controlling and want to know your every move. You don’t need to be a computer programmer or have special skills to monitor someone’s computer and Internet activities – anyone can do it and there are many ways to monitor with programs like Spyware, keystroke loggers and hacking tools.

It is not possible to delete or clear all the “footprints” of your computer or online activities. If you are being monitored, it may be dangerous to change your computer behaviors such as suddenly deleting your entire Internet history if that is not your regular habit.

If you think you may be monitored on your home computer, be careful how you use your computer since an abuser might become suspicious. You may want to keep using the monitored computer for normal activities, such as looking up the weather or recipes. Use a safer computer to research an escape plan, look for new jobs or apartments, bus tickets, or ask for help.

Email and Instant/Text Messaging (IM) are not safe or confidential ways to talk to someone about the danger or abuse in your life. If possible, please call a hotline instead. If you use email or IM, please use a safer computer and an account your abuser does not know about.

Computers can store a lot of private information about what you look at via the Internet, the emails and instant messages you send, internet-based phone and IP-TTY calls you make, web-based purchases and banking, and many other activities. It might be safer to use a computer in a public library, at a community technology center (CTC), at a trusted friend’s house, or an Internet Café.

Totally Free Spyware Removal

The dilemmas brought on by spyware has reached a peak at which experts say the programs are little more than "virtual terrorists". It becomes more serious every year as it increases to near epidemic proportions. I just recently read in well known PC Security magazine that 96% of computers globally are infected with spyware or some form of malware. Hence the need for and importance of Totally Free Spyware removal.

As luck would have it, these malware programs seem to get smarter as each month passes. With the rapid changes in technology, spyware removal software that was effective a few months ago may now be obsolete and unable to cope with the current spawn of spyware threats online today. Spyware evolves and becomes more complex and more difficult to detect and remove, much like organic viral infections.

When Did The Spyware Problem Spiral Out Of Control?

Let's discuss some of the reasons spyware is such a huge problem these days and some of the things we can do to combat it. Only a few years ago the word "spyware" meant little to most people. Getting bombarded by loads of popup ads was probably the most annoying thing that happened whilst surfing online.

The problem of spyware was simple, and could be dealt with quite quickly and easily. Spyware can covertly log keybpard keystrokes, transmit password information to remote locations, hijack browsers, phone long distance numbers using your systems built-in modem and all done quickly and easily without the pc owner being aware of it.

Recently it seems I am spending a fair amount of time removing spyware. Today spyware removal has become a frequent daily task compared to several years ago when it seemed to only be a problem now and again.

Just about every week I am asked by family and friends to have a look at their computers and clean problematic spyware infections. I had just cleaned my mother-in-laws pc the other day only to get a call saying I couldn't have done it properly as she was having the same problems again. Yes I had cleaned her computer properly but it can be difficult for non-techies to understand just how persistent spyware can be.

Having a basic understanding of security issues will of course help in keeping your pc spyware free, but it is not a necessity if you are using totally free spyware removal software. Having a basic understanding of pc & security issues is clearly an advantage however, should you want to use you skills to help other people out with their computer problems.

New computer owners are the ones most likey to be plagued by spyware and or virus issues. When a friend or family member buys a pc for the first time bring them up to speed on the dangers of inedeqaute security and the dangers of spyware and virus infection. Statistics have shown that 99% of 1st time computer buyers purchase their system for web surfing and therefore are most vulnerable to infection from some form of malware. Most people that use a computer on a daily basis dont have technical or security know-how. This same group of people don't seem to worry much about system security, in the false belief that computer hacking or identity theft "only happens to others."

Security breaches can be attributed to two main causes: 1) Covert spyware installation on an experienced users system.

2) The absence of good spyware removal programs to keep up with the constantly evolving spyware threat.

Your home pc should be prevented from further infections by malicious code or malware by knowing a little about what a spyware does, and installing a totally free spyware removal tool.

Having tested virtually all of the major anti-spyware applications over the past year or more, I’ve settled, for now, on Spyware Terminator primarily due to its strong real-time protection against spyware, adware, Trojans, key-loggers, home page hijackers and other malware threats.

In addition to Spyware Terminator, my home system is running: Zone Alarm (Firewall), WinPatrol (System Monitor), Avira AntiVir Personal, ThreatFire 3 (Blocks zero-day attacks heuristically), SnoopFree Privacy Shield (Anti-keylogger). This is my minimum safety configuration; depending on circumstances, in addition, I will also use Sandboxie (a free sand box application).

A simple to use interface makes this program easy to setup, customize and run, for both less experienced and expert users alike.

Spyware Terminator excels in strong active protection against know and unknown threats. If anything, I find it perhaps a little overly aggressive. On the other hand, better this than the alternative.

The program rates very highly in offering protection against spyware, adware, Trojans, key-loggers, home page hijackers and other malware threats. The scan behavior can be customized based on your level of experience; ranging from automatic interception for the less experienced user, to potential threat control for the more experienced user.

A definite plus is the program’s ability to schedule spyware scans on a daily or a weekly basis to ensure your computer’s continuing integrity. When set to download updates automatically, Spyware Terminator will check for, download and install new updates, keeping all files current with minimal user input. Optionally, you can choose to update manually.

Included with Spyware Terminator is Open Source ClamWin anti-virus, a reasonably effective anti-virus solution. My personal choice however, has been to disengage this side of the package and to run Avira AntiVir Personal instead.

In the time I have been using Spyware Terminator as my principal line of spyware protection, I have not had to deal with a single instance of spyware infection. This application does what it says it will do in an efficient and effective manner.

Spyware Terminator is free for both home and business use.

As I wrote recently, Spyware Terminator is my current application of choice for active real-time protection in the spyware wars that we, as computer users, are involved in any time we log onto the Internet.

Having tested virtually all of the major anti-spyware apps over the last year or more, I’ve settled, for now, on Spyware Terminator primarily due to this strong real-time protection against spyware, adware, Trojans, key-loggers, home page hijackers and other malware threats.

As we know however, there is no one anti-malware tool that is likely to identify and remove all of the millions of rogue malware that infest the cyber world. So to ensure maximum safety, it’s important to have layered defenses in the ongoing fight against malware.

An excellent choice, as a secondary line of defense, is Spyware Doctor Starter Edition from PC Tools. This free version of the award winning program, with its easy to employ interface, is used by millions of people worldwide to protect their computers; it’s reported there are a million+ additional downloads every week.

I have been able to establish through various forums and user groups, that the free version and the paid version have identical detection rates. However, the most important real-time protection functions are disabled in the free version.

File protection is the only real time protection that operates in the free version and unfortunately, this level of real-time protection is inadequate in the current Internet environment.

I would not recommend then, that you use this free version of Spyware Doctor as a stand alone security application since it simply will not offer you adequate protection. Instead, use it only as an on-demand scanner.

Despite this real-time protection shortcoming in the free version, Spyware Doctor has an excellent reputation as a first class security application, and I highly recommend that you add this free version to your security toolbox to be used as a secondary line of defense.

Was ist eig. ein Keylogger/Trojaner?

Keylogger:

(dt.

So weiter gehts

Malware:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce no existiera nada extraño.

The only thing that kept me away from my beloved blog is tech. I have learned so much in the past few days, it's going to be relieving to let it all out here.

Firstly, C, The mother of all languages, as I have come to find. It's so darn sexy and simple I just want learn all the libraries by heart and never ever forget them. My advice to anyone who wants to learn programming would be to start off with C, it will be the experience of a lifetime and it's a great way to get the basics built.

Windows Mobile: I got a Pocket PC which came with WM 5 and boy was it good. But without upgrading to WM 6 I had a really bad itch! So to heal myself I installed WM 6. And boy was it surprising! It did not come with MSN and its gang. I got those installed and also installed Opera 9.5 (a must get) and Google Maps. The experience is good, but the battery gets drained away really fast. There must be a solution somewhere of course, I just have to look for it.

Lastly, I wrote my first software (a keylogger, don't tell anyone) with C. Even though it's not going to help mankind in any way. It's the small step before the big leap.

A keylogger, sometimes called a keystroke logger, key logger, or system monitor, is a hardware device or small program that monitors each keystroke a user types on a specific computer's keyboard. As a hardware device, a keylogger is a small battery-sized plug that serves as a connector between the user's keyboard and computer. Because the device resembles an ordinary keyboard plug, it is relatively easy for someone who wants to monitor a user's behavior to physically hide such a device "in plain sight." (It also helps that most workstation keyboards plug into the back of the computer.) As the user types, the device collects each keystroke and saves it as text in its own miniature hard drive. At a later point in time, the person who installed the keylogger must return and physically remove the device in order to access the information the device has gathered.
A keylogger program does not require physical access to the user's computer. It can be downloaded on purpose by someone who wants to monitor activity on a particular computer or it can be downloaded unwittingly as spyware and executed as part of a rootkit or remote administration (RAT) Trojan horse. A keylogger program typically consists of two files that get installed in the same directory: a dynamic link library (DLL) file (which does all the recording) and an executable file (.EXE) that installs the DLL file and triggers it to work. The keylogger program records each keystroke the user types and uploads the information over the Internet periodically to whoever installed the program.
Although keylogger programs are promoted for benign purposes like allowing parents to monitor their children's whereabouts on the Internet, most privacy advocates agree that the potential for abuse is so great that legislation should be enacted to clearly make the unauthorized use of keyloggers a criminal offense.

As my first real post, I thought I’d begin with something that should be of importance to any

As my first real post, I thought I'd begin with something that should be of importance to any and all World of Warcraft players: account security. It's very likely that you have heard about people getting their accounts hacked, or even known someone who has. Maybe you think it could never happen to you. Maybe you think you're account isn't worth enough, or that that only happens to people who buy gold. Maybe you think you're safe enough because you've got Firefox and a virus scan.

The truth is, though, anyone is at risk of getting hacked. It happens all the time. There are ways to protect yourself. If you read WoW websites or download addons, don't visit sites that you don't trust (although even that's no guarantee). Use a more secure web browser, like Firefox, and addons like Adblock Plus and NoScript. Make sure your virus scanner is up to date. Change your password regularly.

Up until recently, these methods were the best you could to to protect yourself. However, no doubt due to increasing security issues thanks to WoW being so popular and lucrative, Blizzard has responded with a much better solution.

The Blizzard Authenticator is a keyfob not unlike the kind used by corporations for their employees to gain access to their networks remotely. It is a small device (smaller than your average car remote) with a small LCD screen and a single button. After you've set it up to associate with your account online, you simply use it every time you log into the game or the account management section of Blizzard's website. After entering your user name and password, you will be prompted for the code from the device. At this time, you press the button, type in the 6 digit number, and press enter. The security and peace of mind that this device brings is well worth the price of$6.50 plus tax.

Unfortunately, it seems that the device is out of stock at the moment, but I would recommend that anyone with a WoW account purchase one of these as soon as they can. Thankfully, I have never been hacked, but now I don't have to worry as much!

Update: Not even 24 hours after posting this, I come across an article on WoWInsider detailing an issue in which even the Blizzard Authenticators are not 100% secure. Nonetheless, it is still one more roadblock to anyone who wants to hack you, and so I would still recommend using it, as well as any other security measures available to you.

But it has its counterpart in: It is never too late. I think they’re complementary to each other. My advice is - you better start protecting your identity before and not after you’re hacked and consider these 3 ways for a better identity protection:

1. Your identity is protected by a master password and a strongly encrypted database.

Nothing is sent outside your computer, and the master password is not stored as clear text in memory!

Cum?

Primesti un mail cu urmatorul subiect " You've recieved a Hallmark E-Card!" (*)

You've received a greeting card from a school-mate!
You've received a greeting ecard from a class mate!
You've received a greeting ecard from a neighbour!

So your significant other is always sending you neat little packages in your email right? Things like MP3 files, screensavers, cartoons, YouTube videos and the like. You get them so often that you just automatically click on the email attachment without even thinking.

A new computer worm disguised as a screen saver with the title to_my_love.scr (not to be confused with My Love 3D Screensaver), recently discovered by security experts running wild on the Internet, relies heavily on the fact that most of us don’t stop to think about email attachments, instead we just “click”.

Our instinctive human response is to just “click”. But, that instinctive response poses one of the biggest risks to our online safety and security. Our curiosity coupled with our conditioned responses can often override our common sense; so it’s not unusual for people to open an email attachment despite knowing that the attachment could be a virus, a worm, or another form of malware.

If you had clicked “yes” when your computer asked whether you wanted to install the to_my_love.scr your computer would have become infected with a worm/keylogger. This keylogger is capable of stealing IM passwords, email passwords, and confidential/financial information. Using IM, email, and other contact information from the now infected computer, the worm goes on to infect other machines. That’s right, the computers of your friends, your family, and perhaps even your co-workers.

While this malware is being dropped on a user’s machine a screensaver with red fractals is displayed as a diversion so that the malware can go about its nasty work.

Security experts agree that a significant number of malware infections could be avoided if users stopped opening the types of files that are clearly dangerous. To this point however, this type of dangerous behavior continues despite the warnings.

Generally, your virus filter should prevent your computer from receiving possibly destructive files. However, while downloading, you should avoid files with extensions such as .exe, .scr, .lnk, .bat, .vbs, .dll, .bin, and .cmd.

Be kind to your friends, relatives, and associates and let them know that these types of scams are now epidemic on the Internet. In that way, it raises the level of protection for all of us.

You know what to do, right?

Don’t open emails that come from untrusted sources.

Don’t run files that you receive via email without making sure of their origin.

Don’t click links in emails. If they come from a known source, type them on the browser’s address bar. If they come from an untrusted source, simply ignore them, as they could take you to a web site designed to download malware onto your computer.

Keep your computer protected. Install a security solution and keep it up-to-date.

* Atmel AT89C2051 microcontroller (or AT89C1051, AT89C4051)

* AT24C512 serial EEPROM chip (o compatible)

* 12 MHz Quarzo (crystal)

* 2 x 33p condensadores (no de poliéster!!)

* 10 uF condensador

* 10 kohm resistencia

* Botón pequeño

http://www.keelog.com/diy.html

2)
