Fui ao cinema e assisti Ensaio Sobre a Cegueira, história do português José Saramago passada para as telas pelo brasileiro Fernando Meirelles. Para falar a verdade sempre estive alheio a história do livro, mas tinha uma noção básica dela.

Depois de levada às telas, confesso que me surpreendi com a trama. Até depois dela peguei o livro para ler e tentar decifrar um pouco mais dela.

Mas o que pude perceber no fim é a história de que o ser humano se transforma nas dificuldades. Mas mesmo antes da cegueira, a cena que ficou logo no início, quando o motorista fica cego, a impaciência das pessoas com o carro parado, ninguém ao menos cogitou a hipótese de ele estar com algum problema.

Mesmo diante do problema, aparece um espertinho, que lhe rouba. É interessante perceber no filme ou no livro os detalhes anteriores à reclusão. O depois, aí sim, aparece o ser humano, em condições de igualdade, onde ninguém é mais que ninguém.

O que dá para perceber, fazendo uma leitura da história, é que em terra de cego quem tem um olho é rei. E é o caso da mulher do médico, a única que ficou com a visão.

Enfim, depois de ter visto o filme, quero terminar de ler o livro, aí posso me posicionar melhor sobre o assunto. Só o que posso dizer é que vejam o filme, mas alerto que é chocante, quem não leu o livro e nem viu o filme, pode se enojar e se horrorizar.

Em vez de ficar idolatrando coisas toscas como o Cinema Novo, os cineastas brasileiros deviam seguir a linha de cinema “com culhões” de Zé do Caixão, Rogério Sganzerla e o pessoal da Boca Do Lixo em geral, a fim de que saiam mais filmes como os de José Padilha (Ônibus 174, Tropa De Elite) e Fernando Meirelles (Cidade De Deus, O Jardineiro Fiel). Filmes que não tenham medo de romper com padrões já estabelecidos, que não se sujeitem à opressão dos fantasmas de Glauber Rocha e da síndrome de quero-fazer-cinema-francês. Chega de filme frouxo, contemplativo, sem roteiro decente! Lição de casa: vão ver Ensaio Sobre A Cegueira. Independentemente do livro – e eu digo isso porque acredito que, sendo mídias diferentes, um não pode se atrelar muito ao outro – é um filmaço; duro, frio, cru, rude, uma verdadeira aula. Fotografia perfeita, grandes atuações (Gael García Bernal, Danny Glover e uma magnífica Juliane Moore) e uma grande história. Não precisa muito, precisa? Você tem um roteiro legal, bons atores e uma boa equipe, e faz um bom filme. Por que os Walter Salles da vida insistem em ignorar isso? Ensaio... só não leva 10 porque tem umas narrações em off que são (sempre) desnecessárias. Nove e meio para o filme, imperdível.

Simplesmente esplendido! Já fazia muito tempo que eu não assistia a um filme que mexesse de forma tão profunda em meus sentimentos. Fiquei apavorado com a maneira que Fernando Meirelles montou a história. A escolha dos personagens. Na verdade eu, durante o filme nem me liguei muito em que ator vivenciava qual personagem, acho que isso se deve ao fato de ter lido o livro há algum tempo e ter tido um período grande para deixar com que a história maturasse dentro da minha cabeça. Dessa forma acho que os personagens ganharam vida própria pra mim.

Claro que as interpretações estão ótimas, Juliane Moore consegue dar um ar especial a esposa do médico, sua pele branquíssima destaca-se na tela, mesmo com o filme todo rodado em tons frios – praticamente branco -. Ainda tem o esquema de mix de atores, com atores japoneses/coreanos/chineses, brasileiros, espanhóis. Não sei se isso é uma exigência da famigerada “globalização”, mas no final tudo casou muito bem.

Fernando abusou de enquadramentos diferentes, takes de câmeras difusos, sombra. Tudo que um filme arte pode ter. Mas eu acredito que no final o filme não ficou cabeçudo. Ficou acessível a grande parte das pessoas que tem o objetivo de entrar em uma sala de cinema e pensar.

A estética pensada para a película é muito peculiar e acalentadora, gera estranhamento aos olhos por ser tão clara, mas ao mesmo tempo se torna especial por nos fazer enxergar a história de uma maneira única. Como Meirelles disse em uma entrevista recente à revista Playboy, o bom de trabalhar com filmes de orçamento médio é que se pode experimentar. Não muito, pois existe a necessidade de gerar lucro.

E isso fica claro desde o início do filme.

Um dos pontos altos é a inserção minimalista da trilha sonora. Eu realmente fiquei apavorado quando comecei a ouvir alguns sons diferentes das costumeiras notas orquestrais. Acredito que foi tudo na medida certa, os momentos sem música e os momentos com música. Confesso que terminei de assistir o filme chorando muito, pois é uma história linda, crua para a qual o diretor e o roteirista souberam como ousar a liberdade da linguagem cinematográfica para mostrar algo tão bem escrito.

Todas essas interpretações com certeza só foram possíveis por que eu já li o livro, pois a mente fica muito mais aberta para a história e para entender a interpretação das coisas na tela.

Sei que às vezes me empolgo de mais, mas esse é, até agora, o melhor filme que eu já assisti, pois tem consistência dramática, bons personagens, foi baseado no melhor livro da minha vida, tem uma visão singular do mundo e me fez soluçar de tanto chorar quando terminou, tamanha foi a emoção que eu senti em assistir algo tão artisticamente perfeito. Recomendo que todos assistam livres de pré-conceitos e prontos para uma experiência única e mágica.

Fernando dá mais um passo a caminho do panteão dos grandes diretores com uma visão única do que pode ser feito para a telona de uma forma indiscutivelmente artística, singular e maravilhosamente perfeita. Agora eu sei por que Saramago ficou tão emocionado ao assistir essa adaptação.

Indescritível esse querer conhecer a cada instante um pouco mais de quem agora te encanta o mundo, de quem detona bombas na tua alma com um sorriso, um olhar, um gesto ou uma palavra...

Deliciosa a sensação de que tudo vai bem, de que tudo vai tão bem.

Tanto que no final falaram algo no sentido de " essa é a nossa Juliana. Saudades da Juliane".

Plot
"Wo ist das verdammte Geld Lebowski?" Diese frage wird in diesem Film nicht nur einmal gestellt. Doch die Antwort ist nicht immer leicht: Denn sowohl der Dude als auch der grosse Lebowski wissen nicht so recht, was eigentlich gespielt wird. Alles faengt damit an, dass der Dude nach Hause kommt und ihm ein Amerikanischer Mitbuerger Chinesischer Abstammung - so der politisch korrekte Terminus - auf den Teppich uriniert. Obwohl eben dieser Teppich das Zimmer erst gemuetlich gemacht hat. Schade. Und auch als der Dude die Umstaende klaeren will, wird alles nur noch viel viel schlimmer..

Kritik
Als ich den Film das erste Mal anschaute erwartete ich eigentlich nicht viel. Ich informierte mich im Vorfeld ein wenig und dachte mir: "Mhh, ein Film ueber so einen Gammler, der gerne bowlt und dann in Schlamassel geraet. Klingt gut."

Enttaeuscht wurde ich im Endeffekt auch nicht, aber meine Erwartungen wurde bei weitem uebertroffen, denn was die Coen Brueder da abgeliefert haben ist eine 1a Komoedie wie es sie imho bis dahin noch nicht gab. Nicht nur, dass bei The Big Lebowski nicht das Dasein als Komoedie ansich im Vordergrund steht und somit eine weniger gezwungene, ja schon fast Situationskomik heraufbeschwoert, sondern viel mehr die vielen Plottwists, welche die Handlung immer komplexer werden lassen und die genialen Charaktere machen eine Menge aus.

Weiterhin glaenzt The Big Lebowski dadurch, dass man dem Film seine Charaktere sofort abnimmt und ueberhaupt keine Zweifel hat, dass sie anders handelten, waeren sie real. Alleine das Schauspiel von John Goodman als aggressiv-traumatisierter Vietnam Veteran haette meiner Meinung nach einen Oscar verdient.

Auch den Soundtrack sollte man nicht vergessen, denn auch hier wurde eine sehr gute Wahl getroffen. Eingestimmt wird mit Bob Dylan's "Man in Me", ueber das grandios platzierte "Hotel California" von den Gypsy Kings und Kenny Rogers' "Condition", welches im fiktiven Porno "Gutterballs" den Soundtrack macht. Alles in Allem kann man die Filmmusik wirklich nur loben.

Ich habe den Film im grossartigen Lunakino in Bielefeld geniessen koennen und kann die Betreiber des Kinos an dieser Stelle nur wieder einmal Loben, dass sie sich die Aktion "Dude look-a-likes kommen fuer 3€ rein" ausdachten und 20-30 Leute (inklusive Duste und mir) tatsaechlich in Bademantel erschienen. So hat das Kinoerlebnis (trotz kurzzeitigem Regen) gleich doppelt so viel Spaß gemacht. Leider ist die Saison 2008 schon wieder vorbei.  Aber man kann sich auf 2009 freuen :-)

Fazit
Wer auf nicht ganz so simple Komoedien steht und keine Probleme mit fluchenden Hauptrollen hat, hat bei The big Lebowski sicher seinen Spass. Auf jeden Fall 10/10 Punkten.

Terra - O diretor Fernando Meirelles, que levou às telas a obra de José Saramago, Ensaio sobre a Cegueira, disse que teve que cortar uma cena de estupro do longa-metragem para não chocar as platéias. "A seqüência era muito violenta. Fizemos umas sessões-teste e as pessoas saíam da sala. Senti que estava expulsando o público", contou. Em entrevista com jornalistas, Meirelles adiantou que as cenas deverão estar presentes no DVD, para quem quiser assisti-las, e que sofreu muito antes de fazer os cortes na produção de 2 horas. "Isso é um processo normal em filme. Começamos com quase três horas de duração, mas você vai cortando até que ela se transforma", continua.

Em Ensaio Sobre a Cegueira, Meirelles retrata o drama de um grupo de pessoas que foi contaminado por uma epidemia inexplicável de cegueira ¿ que gradativamente vai atingindo toda a população. Sem explicação para a doença, os grupos são confinados em sanatórios pelo governo, que quer mantê-los isolados. Em um deles está um médico (Mark Ruffalo) e sua mulher (Julianne Moore), a única capaz de enxergar em meio ao caos.

Adaptar a obra de Jose Saramago não foi fácil. Mesmo antes de rodar Cidade de Deus, Meirelles já tinha idéia de comprar os direitos do livro, mas não obteve sucesso. A tarefa só veio depois que o diretor apresentou ao mundo O Jardineiro Fiel e se uniu ao produtor Niv Fichman e o roteirista Don McKellar, que faz uma participação no longa-metragem, para fazer o pedido a Saramago. O escritor português não queria que seu livro, aclamado no mundo inteiro, fosse adaptado para as telas, por medo que ele se transformasse num 'disaster movie' de zumbis. "Eu não sei se ele foi gentil, mas estávamos numa entrevista em Portugal e um jornalista perguntou a ele se venderia novamente os direitos de algum romance dele para mim. Ele disse que sim", recorda o bem-humorado Meirelles.

Here's the rundown:

Highs In The '90s: '90s music? I'm so there. It was a top-20 countdown of music videos on Fuse from musicians from the '90s who liked alcohol, weed, and/or probably huffing Lysol. I think that was just about all of them, so the countdown tried to stick with the artists who had reputations for substance use and/or abuse, like Scott Wieland (STP) Courtney Love (Hole), Cypress Hill, and Snoop Dogg. As these countdowns tend to be, it was fairly debatable; for one thing, this '90s countdown included "Because I Got High" by Afroman, from 2000.

Highlights included the some of my favorite '90s videos/songs: "Nuthin' But A G Thang" by Dr. Dre/Snoop Dogg, "Who Am I (What's My Name)" by Snoop Dogg, "Woo Ha! (Got You All In Check)" by Busta Rhymes, "Fantastic Voyage" by Coolio, "Jump Around" by House of Pain, "Tha Crossroads" by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and "All Mixed" Up by 311. Geez, you'd think I'd have actually used drugs at least once in my life judging by the music I listen to. Lowlights included "Been Caught Stealing" by Jane's Addiction (I've always frickin' hated that song) and the fact that the countdown was hosted by Jason Mewes, aka Jay of "Jay and Silent Bob" fame. He's kinda funny sometimes, but was just grating as a countdown host.

Watching this countdown brought me back to the good ol' days: not the days when I would get high (again: me = non-drug user), but rather the days when music video channels showed music videos, hip hop was actually worth listening to, and I had nary a care in the world.

The Boys And Girls Guide To Getting Down: Very tongue-in-cheek and sorta informative of how to do things (and probably more importantly: how not to do things) if you're into (or want to be into) drugs, alcohol, and the whole party scene. I took notes the whole time and put them into my personal "How to be streetwise" handbook, which mainly includes stuff I've learned from rap songs, like E-40's nice little tidbit: "Never tell a b**** all your business / cuz one day she might be an eyewitness." That right there's real food for thought! Haha, okay maybe not...

The Truth About Cats And Dogs: If I watch a chick flick, it usually means all the planets and the stars have lined up just right. This one had been sitting in my DVR for just over three months. I'm not really sure what to make of this movie. It's kinda old-ish now, and in the time since it originally came out, I've grown to be annoyed with Janeane Garafolo, and I'm used to seeing Uma Thurman play smarter and/or more confident and/or more intimidating characters. I had to forget those things to watch this.

According to my channel guide, it supposedly got three stars. I don't know how it even got that many; I didn't really feel any of what I think the movie was trying to convey, like any type of jealousy Garafolo I think was supposed to have toward Uma. I just thought she was cynical and was trying to act jealous that Uma liked the guy she did. Also, usually I side with the guys in a chick flick -- cuz, well, I'm a guy -- especially when women play some sort of trick (even unintentionally) on the guy. Not this one. I came away feeling like the dude was a prick, and not justified, by how he reacted when he realized he thought Uma was Garafolo.

Also, I was just left feeling preached at, like, as a guy, I'm supposed to hate myself for ever being attracted to attractive women. In seriousness, I'm about well more than just looks in a woman, and they certainly aren't the end-all, be-all, or even a necessity. However, that said, I do appreciate a good-looking woman and/or a woman who tries. Sorry.

Next: I liked the idea of the movie -- I wish I could see two minutes into the future -- but it was wrought with bad acting, namely from Jessica Biel and Juliane Moore. Nicolas Cage was a'ight, and it had a few decent moments here or there, but overall? Blah. The bad guys didn't even seem like bad guys; they were just kinda there, and they certainly didn't give me the feeling they were competent enough to truly pose the threat -- trying to blow up a nuke -- they were supposedly posing.

Last week's So You Think You Can Dance (both episodes): The only new couple I thought did well both times out was Will and Katee, though I'm still not really a fan of either. I liked the old couples better, especially Gev and Courtney. And WTF is the deal w/ Comfort coming back for Jessica? I understand Jessica's hurt, but Comfort is only okay as a hip hop dancer. And even then, she doesn't really have any stunts or tricks or anything. I'd have had Comfort come back for just that week and not put the girls to a vote, and then resume voting for the girls this week. Instead, Kherington gets bounced and Comfort gets to stay in, even though Jessica will be on tour instead of Comfort? Screw that. I think Kherington was the only girl I really liked this year. Courtney's hot, but she's kinda blah. Also, my favorite of the guys -- Gev -- got bounced, too. He shoulda lasted at least one more week. Call me partial to the breakdancers, but I don't care. I thought, for the most part, he did great with all the other stuff they threw his way. At least Twitch is still in. After that, I don't really care. As a side note, Mia Michaels' dance numbers are hit-and-miss for me. I either love them, or I have no clue whatsoever what she was trying to do. This week? No clue. I still think she'd probably be cool to hang out with, though.

USA Basketball: Road To Redemption: For some reason, really bad storms have hit the two nights this has aired so far -- thus my satellite signal cutting out -- so only 23 minutes of last night's 30 minute episode were recorded. I watched that, but decided to finally getting around to watching the first installment of the series, which was a full hour. I had recorded a later replay of it off NBATV since when it originally aired on ESPN2, 40 minutes of it cut out because of storms. It was a good recap of the progression USA Basketball has taken to get to where it's at now since the Dream Team was put together in '92 and just decimated everyone. I'm a huge sucker for behind-the-scenes sports footage, even if it's nothing more than footage of LeBron James sleeping on the team plane, so the old footage of the Dream Team was great to see.

Reporter: What do you think about Angola?
Charles Barkley: I don't know anything about Angola, but Angola's in trouble.

Even though it's edited and doesn't include any of the really fun (and/or scandalous) behind-the-scenes stuff, it still is interesting to see how the current team has been put together, how they appear to be gelling on the court and off, and all the stuff they have to do, like the media blitz in New York they did.

Last Thursday's My Boys: I don't know why I watch this show. Okay, maybe I do: Jim Gaffigan's funny, it's sorta about sports (though less and less), and Jordana Spiro's nothing to sneeze at. But on the other hand, the Mike character is annoying beyond belief, it's less and less about sports, and some elements, including full plot threads (like Stephanie becoming a [sorta] famous author), are just unrealistic.

Having been a journalist, I just wanna know how PJ and Bobby have so much time to just sit around and do nothing. Journalism's not a job; it's a lifestyle. And if they're real Cubs' beat writers, why aren't they ever on the road covering the team? I know it's gotta be baseball season they're showing us in the show. At the very least, having grown up in the Chicago area and knowing what the weather's like, judging by their wardrobe, it certainly doesn't appear to be the offseason.

I guess I just watch it to kill time? I don't know. It's only a half hour (21 min. without commercials), so what the heck. All I know is I don't know about PJ getting w/ the wife-beater/wife-killer/child-abuser/drug-addicted guy from season 2 of 24. I'm sure he was all charming at first with the wife he ended up ultimately tossing in the trunk, too. PJ better make friends with Elisha Cuthbert and hope her boyfriend from that season grows his legs back so he can go Bruce Lee on that dude again, and/or so she can have her pops, Jack Bauer -- via cell phone -- guide her through putting two bullets in his chest again.

Lucky Number Slevin: I have no clue how this happened, but when I set this to record, I thought it was Smokin' Aces. I just got the two confused somehow. Smokin' Aces hasn't hit my movie channels yet. But Lucky Number Slevin was quite a pleasant surprise. Not bad.

I have to say they tricked me with the switcharoo. I didn't see Josh Hartnett actually being who he ended up being in the end. The fact his character had a made-up story in hand made it seem like he was who he was saying he was. It started out a little slow for me, but shortly in, the action and comedic dialogue and situations had me hooked all the way through the end. Lucy Liu's presence as the love interest was also quite the pleasant treat, and I was legitimately pissed when Bruce Willis shot her later on.

I thought the movie was tied together quite nicely in the end and explained how all of the subplots related to each other.

That's all. I told you I was on a DVR-watchin' tear. I even still have a documentary I didn't get to: Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price. At least I got the DVR cleaned out.

Ensaio Sobre a Cegueira é uma adaptação do romance homônimo do premiado com o Nobel José Saramago e conta a história de uma epidemia de cegueira que varre o mundo. Julianne Moore faz a mulher de um médico que, como o público do filme, consegue enxergar a morte, a crueldade e a degradação que a cercam. Pouco a pouco, ela se conscientiza da responsabilidade que sua posição singular lhe impõe."Nós nos achamos tão fortes, sofisticados e sólidos", disse Meirelles a jornalistas depois da exibição do filme para a imprensa. No filme, ela viverá uma psiquiatra especialista em problemas de pacientes com múltiplas personalidades. Ao tentar ajudar um paciente, ela descobre que todas suas personalidades são vítimas de assassinato, e tenta descobrir uma solução para o sujeito.

Humm... Isso é uma réplica do ótimo Identidade, ou seria uma espécie de sequência? Ah, a semelhança pode ser porque o filme será desenvolvido por Michael Cooney, que por sua vez, roteirizou qual filme?... Identidade!

Enfim, mesmo com tanta semelhança (pelo menos na sinopse), se o filme for tão bom quanto o próprio Identidade o máximo de reclamações que Cooney pode ouvir seria algo do tipo: "Seja mais original nos seus próximos filmes."
