What makes “You” different?
Start today you’re going to think of yourself differently! You

What makes “You” different?

Start today you're going to think of yourself differently! You're not an employee, staffer, worker, or a manager. You don't belong to any company for life, and your chief affiliation isn't to any particular job function. You're not defined a job title and you're not confined by your job description.

Starting today you are a brand.

You're every bit as much a brand as Nike, Pepsi, Ford or the local Body Shop where you live. To start thinking like your own favorite brand manager, ask yourself the same question the brand managers at Nike, Coke, Ford, or the Body Shop ask themselves: What is it that my product or service does that makes it different? Give yourself the traditional 20 words or less challenge. Take the time to write down your answer. And then take the time to read it. Ten times, and really think about it. WHAT ARE YOU DIFFERENT?

If your answer wouldn't light up the eyes of a prospective client or command a vote of confidence from a satisfied past client, or worst of all, it doesn't grab your attention, then you've got a big problem. It's time to give some serious thought and even more serious effort to imagining and developing yourself as a brand.

Start by identifying the qualities or characteristics that make you distinctive from your competitors or your colleagues. What have you done lately, this week, to make yourself stand out in the crowd? What would your friends, colleagues or your customers say is your greatest and clearest strength? Your most worthy personal trait or what do you think creates the buzz about you.

Now commit to yourself that you will re-write it. What makes you different, unique, from the rest. This is one of the most important parts of your brand.

Your comments and back links are appreciated. Thanks for your time and make sure to come back to continue this series of blog post on the “CEO of YOU”.

Thank you for your time,

É exatamente isso que é o documentário Google Me The Movie.

When you hear it, depending on who said it – the connotations can be many. But we all know what it means – to search and find. To show how fast Google has become a piece of the collective mainstream consciousness, let’s do a little experiment->

Think back 5 years…to when Google was one of the fastest growing sites online, but was still not quite mainstream enough to be a verb in Webster’s. Then think back just less than 10 years, to when you first heard about Google. I know it seemed like another good search engine to me at the time. Did I suspect what was coming? Maybe the founders did – but I can’t recall anyone with the grand vision of today (even 5 years ago.)

Now, think about today – we have "Google Me" – as a song, a new movie, a radio show, and a battle cry for those wanting to be found. According to Jim Killeen, producer of Google Me – the Movie, there’s even Google Me, Reality TV up and coming. Host Jim Cobb produces Google Me Talk Radio, and artist Teyana sings “You betta google me baby!" The other day at a networking event, I heard more than 10 people say “Google Me” when someone asked for a business card.

Where will Google and the Google culture be in 5 years?

I can't agree with these folks.I’ll venture a bold guess – and please comment to tell what your thoughts are:

- As things move to a more and more local focus, your standing in your community will be effected both positively and negatively by Google searches.

I like this movie. The film starts a new genre of film that documents our internet culture in the throws of social media...it gives a kind of rainbow at the end of the google search...a hope for enlightenment of sorts.

Be prepared for future films the likes of Facebook Me and Twitter Me. Jim Killeen was a man on a search for the meaning of life...but instead of going to church or becoming a Buddhist, he goes on an internet search. It is just not any search...a kind of narcissistic search where he looks for the meaning of life by searching his own name.

Most of us have done this. My own namesake has taken my dot.com name and achieved success as an artist who designs furniture with shows around the U.S. I have followed her from the time she had only one or two Google hits...now she is filling up the pages of Google with the odd reference to me. I have thought that someday I should purchase one of her designer chairs...there is one in particular that I like.

I remember about four or five years ago emailing her, but she didn't get back...so I let it go. What would we discuss anyway...we do have a common interest in art. We could compare what it was like growing up with a last name of "Beer", but the conversation would probably be short lived. The only connection that I feel to her is I am happy for her success and will continue to watch her progress. Let's face it, if we are going to have a namesake, we don't wish for them to diminish our name.

In the case of Jim, googling his name was a sort of real-time reincarnation experience where he could visit his other selves within his own lifetime and glean from them what they knew to make sense of his own purpose in life. Well Jim, one thing is for sure. You are a storyteller and a good one. You were able to weave together a group of people with virtually very little in common but sharing a similar name.

I love the editing in this movie. I am seeing from sites like Ustream.tv that I have new appreciation for an editor. You have helped to crystallize our internet culture in the midst of the social media movement. You tooks risks in your search....and as we can see, you are a good gambler...congratulations.

I just have one question...in the time of internet...is Google the new path to God?
