2 Arrested In Death of Man Outside Cleveland Home.

This is another example of what Cleveland, Ohio has become. Before I get started,

My grandfathers uncle, Dr. Ally Maschke, was the director of medicine for months on the medical center in Cleveland, Ohio. My cousin, Dr. Victor Vertese, was also the director of medicine from outside my medical center in Cleveland, Ohio. Furthermore, my father, Maurice Maschke Jr., was, at one time, the president of the national linen supply Association of America. Furthermore, my father, Maurice Maschke Jr., and I, co-owned Pioneer linen supply company, at 3611 Payne Ave, here in Cleveland, Ohio until his death. Furthermore, my father, Maurice Maschke Jr., and I, were both personal friends of Dr. Bernard Kryle, one of the founders of the Cleveland clinic foundation here in Cleveland, Ohio. Furthermore, my father, Maurice Maschke Jr., was on the board of trustees for the Cleveland clinic foundation of Clinton Ohio until his death. Furthermore, both my father, Maurice Maschke Jr., and his father, Maurice Maschke, graduated with top honors from Harvard University. Additionally, my aunt, Helen Hanna Maschke, was married for a period of time, to Mark Hanna, the founder of the Hanna Mining Company, here in Cleveland, Ohio, which became the 3M Co.. Additionally, my grandfather, Maurice Maschke, was the national Republican committeeman for all northeastern Ohio, and was the United States customs inspector for the entire United States, under president Harding. Furthermore, my grandfathers family, the Maschke family, not only knew Moses Cleaveland, but was actually one of the founding families of the city of Cleveland, Ohio.

My family, the Maschke family is have a long history of investing heavily, not only financially, spiritually and emotionally, in the city of Cleveland, Ohio. Unfortunately, the city of Cleveland has now turned into a rather serious area of complete moral deprivation and degradation. Mayor Frank Jackson, and his administration has been fraught with inaptitude, and with repeated scandals, which have virtually paralyzed the city government of Cleveland, Ohio. Additionally, the city of Cleveland, Ohio has more members on its city council than almost any other major city in the entire United States. And while the city of Cleveland is virtually going broken losing money left and right, each member of city Council, in Cleveland, Ohio, is paid $70,000. Additionally, Cleveland, where it used to be known as a tremendously thriving market Center, is now being known for one of the most racist cities in the entire nation. Additionally, one I used to live Shaker Square, in Cleveland, Ohio, I would watch the suburban black people come to the rapid transit station, at the same time, I would watch the inner-city black people coming to the same rapid station. And what most people in the United States don't understand is a Cleveland is now so racist, that the people who are black live in the suburbs have an extreme racist attitude toward the black people who still live in the inner-city. The terms of the black people who live in the suburbs give the people who are black live in the inner-city is, downtown blacks. And the term that the inner-city black people give to the black people living in the suburbs is, uptown blacks.

In addition, city of Cleveland has become extremely racist and prejudice against Jews in the past two decades.

While it is true that I have a terminal illness, my home will be paid off in three years. Once it is, my wife and are making plans to leave the city of Cleveland. I do not want to reside in the city to take so much pride in being racist and bigoted and prejudice against Jews, and prejudice against mentally ill people. I certainly don't want to live in the city that has become so homophobic, and xenophobic, that most of the newscasters in the city of Cleveland are nothing more than glorified liars. I have been invited by a number of people throughout the country to go and live with them rather than here in the city of Cleveland, which is now pretty much becoming a cesspool. Furthermore, I have a tape recording of the conversation between me and a member of the mayor's action line, here in Cleveland, Ohio, where as soon as I explained that I had a mental illness, the person basically told me I had no right to call the mayor's action line at all because they didn't care about the mentally ill people in the city. I furthermore got the indication that because I was not black. And I basically had no rights in the city anymore. And that is conjunctive with the fact that the city of Cleveland now has more black residents than it does white residents. Additionally, there are bullet holes and my windows were my windows up and shut out. And a number of years ago about was put on my property. In my mailbox was exploded and the FBI had to be called to investigate. The party who put the bottle my property trying to kill me and my wife was never found. Additionally, a police officer, in the city of Cleveland has been heard by two witnesses, what I last tried to leave my house several months ago. And they saw me, they were heard to say that if I walked out of my house again and they were around they would shoot me on sight. That was a police officer who said that.

Additionally, the police department in the city of Cleveland, what is known as the constabulary, legally, has become so ineffective, the crimes of this nature of this particular posting right now, are becoming so typical that numbers of these incidences are happening every single day. And as I said, most of the newscasters in the city of Cleveland are nothing more than extremely glorified overpaid liars.

So like I said, while I have this terminal illness, my wife and I are planning on leaving the city. As soon as our home is paid for over the next three years. There's no way I want to give Cleveland any more of my attention or my money since they have taken the attitude of hatred against the Maschke family, and hatred for me as a survivor of that family. There is no way I want to continue to support the excessive financial behavior of the city Council, which is basically racist against Jews, or to support the city of Cleveland, which is also racist against Jews. There are many other areas of the country where I can go and live and die, and to stay here in Cleveland, which is now becoming so violent and so racist. That Cleveland is no longer known for being a market Center or good business center in as much as they are becoming known for being violent, racist and actually one of the most racist cities in the entire nation. This is the legacy the Cleveland is leaving and giving to the United States.

Having a legacy that I do. I understand the city of Cleveland, a lot better than most Clevelanders do because my family has actually been an integral part of the city for so many generations all the way back to the beginning of the city. My grandfathers father, actually had a ships supply store at the exact spot where the terminal tower is now, in his store was right next to the store of the man by the name of Fazio, who eventually owned Fischer Fazio's grocery stores. Back then, Cleveland was a melting pot of a number of different cultures with a great deal of pride and a great deal of energy as well. Now Cleveland is nothing more than a rather filthy dirty city filled with draft, greed, lies, murder, political scandals, reporters should take pride in doing yellow journalism, and a great deal of anti-Semitic Jew hatred that is completely promoted by most of the TV stations in the city.

So as I said, it's only a matter of time before our home is paid off. And I will leave this city. I do not intend to die in this city that has now become so filthy dirty and disgustingly horrible and immoral before God, and all humanity. Not to mention how the city is becoming known for nothing more than open racism and constant killings and murder. I'm not been a die in such a disgusting horrible place. I used to love the city of Cleveland. Now I'm ashamed to say that I'm from the city because of how horrible and filthy and racist is become. And there's no reason for me to turn on the local news in the city because most of the newscasters are doing nothing but lying to the general public. That's all they do they promote yellow journalism and lied to the public. And I don't like be journalists in the city because they show open contempt and hatred for the Maschke family.

So again, there's no reason for me to stay here. I get the message the TV networks in the city of Cleveland no longer want the Maschke family to be in Cleveland and no longer want me to live in this city. They would like me to leave as soon as possible, and I'm more than happy to oblige them. And even though I had this rather serious terminal condition going on with me where I am blind legally in my right eye. I can't walk, I can't drive, and I only have one lung, and a myriad of other physical problems, my wife and I are still determined not to live in Cleveland as soon as her home is paid for over the next 2 1/2 years. Once that's done we will leave this city once and for all in Cleveland can go ahead and be as dirtiness filthy and its scandal ridden and as racist as they want, but I will no longer be giving them any of my tax dollars or my attention at all. Cleveland has made it perfectly clear. They hate the Maschke family. They hate the legacy of the Maschke family and they hate the contributions of the Maschke family made in the city. So that's fine, since Cleveland wants to be all about being white supremacists and white fundamentalist Christians who love to hate anyone who's not a fundamentalist Christian or who is not black enough to satisfy the mayor and the mayors government and the black population of the city of Cleveland. No problem. As I said, I have a number of people from around the country who have personally extended invitations for me to go to where they are. So I can die in peace with some respect, which I don't get here in the city of Cleveland.

It's sad for me to have to say these things about the home where I have lived for 50 years. But in a nation now that is so polarized with racism and hatred, I've come to expect this kind of sadness in this kind of disgusting demonstrations of the human condition in modern times. As I said, Cleveland, Ohio used to be a nice place. Unfortunately it is no longer nice anymore.

End of line...

I just want to explain basically what has been going on over the last 24 hours. With regard to

I just want to explain basically what has been going on over the last 24 hours. With regard to my juxtapositioning, regarding Microsoft, IE 7 and Firefox. This is one of the issues I've had over the years with Microsoft. Microsoft could have made things easier for me, but they chose to make it more difficult. Basically what happened was that the new beta version of the Google toolbar, which worked with Windows XP service pack 2, did not work very well with Windows XP service pack 3. What happened was a Java code interrupt came to the surface and caused a disruption in the display of certain Java codes to the screen. So the screen displayed began to become somewhat disrupted. As a result, I was fooled into believing I might have to go back to blogger.com in order to continue my blogs. However once over there I realized, while I was using Firefox to try to correct the problem, that the real issue was not IE 7 but was in fact, the new Google toolbar based on the fact that Windows XP service pack 2, was slightly different than Windows XP service pack 3. And so as a result, I then downgraded back to the original Google toolbar for IE 7. Once I did that, a Java interrupt became result I was able to continue using WordPress.com for my blog.

This juxtapositioning had to be done because Microsoft does not like to be straightforward about any of their program changes. And this is a certain degree of arrogance on the part of Microsoft, in addition to belligerence. Microsoft has never made adapting to their software easy as a matter of fact admitted as difficult as possible. And this is the kind of bullying, pursuant to business ethics, that Microsoft has been known for ever since they started the company. It's sort of like if they don't get their way, they will make things as hard on you as possible. And this is one of the main reasons that most of the people in the world are totally completely fed up with Microsoft Corp. at this time. And this is yet another reason why most people in this world are refusing to use Windows Vista. For while Microsoft keeps saying that people must use Windows Vista, whether we like it or not, the world is telling Microsoft now we don't have to use Windows Vista and if you don't like it you need to put up and shut up instead of making us do that. And as a result, Microsoft now is beginning to realize they no longer have the right to push people around like they've always done.

And so Microsoft is now realizing that their Windows Vista is not a good program and that nobody likes it. And that they basically make themselves out to look completely stupid by trying to force people to use a product that nobody wants. So now they're touting IE 8, and Windows 7 like these are going to be really good things went so far, what they given us is nothing but garbage. Windows Vista is not a good program. Furthermore, it is not an operating system is a server system. So when Microsoft is telling the public that it's an operating system, basically Microsoft is lying. Because Windows Vista is not an operating system is a server system. And as a server system is not something that the users wanted. And finally now, Microsoft is beginning to realize they can no longer push people around and demand that people simply put up and shut up and take what Microsoft wants to give them. Microsoft is beginning to realize if they don't put up and shut up there then and up being divested and forced to break up and they're not to have the market share they want and they're not to be looked on as a monopoly anymore and they're not to be able to practice racketeering like they've been able to do since they started the company.

In any event, I have resolved the issues, regarding software and my blog so that I can continue my blogs here on WordPress.com. And as I said before, I'm maintaining my blogs of WordPress.com because of the higher degree of readability versus blogger.com. Furthermore, I'm not really concerned anymore with the naysayers who don't like my blog. I'm not concerned with the people who don't want to read it or who want to do nothing more but castigate me and attack me. If that's all there, small minds can come up with is to attack me then. They will probably get back to karma that they send out. But I am not going to buy into that. I have four more to do than to do that.

End of line...

I’ve had to switch back and forth between the browsers of Firefox and IE 7 for the last couple

I've had to switch back and forth between the browsers of Firefox and IE 7 for the last couple of days. However, I have finally stabilized. As of this morning there became a problem with the Java code with IE 7. As a result I have now gone back to Firefox. However, that being said, I have to say that Outlook express does work better and more efficiently, pursuant to the e-mail functioning of Gmail than does Thunderbird. So for that reason, I'm going to continue using Outlook express.

I have however sent out some notes to my personal readers that I might be switching back to blogger.com, that is not going to happen. And it won't because I have been able to make the blog editor program for my speech program work on WordPress.com. That being said, as I said before, the readability of WordPress.com is greater than the readability of blogger.com, pursuant to a number of factors regarding the Internet. So as a result, I am staying here and blog is going to go forward.

I'm not making excuses about this because there are so many different things that are taking place pursuant to blogging these days and pursuant to the Internet and things are moving somewhat haphazardly regarding software, pursuant to Microsoft Corp. right now. Microsoft is in a state of flux. It is because Microsoft is having a great deal of trouble trying to assess which direction it's going to go and pursuant to Windows Vista and Windows 7.

Even though Microsoft is taking a very strong stand so to speak, when you read the dialogue is going on with Microsoft on the market. You see that Microsoft is in a state of flux. That being said, this does put me somewhat in a state of flux, seeing as how I'm using a speech program in order to be able to do my blogging. But I have been able to work around these necessary changes and now things are stabilized as they were before.

That being said, I will get back to doing the news articles are in the moment I have a few updates software wise to finish. And from there I will then go ahead and do some more news articles.

I do highly recommend Firefox over IE 7. Regardless of any of the hype that Microsoft might want to give about IE 8, were still talking about Windows Vista, which is basically a failure in the market.

End of line...

I’ve made some adjustments to my speech program. For one, the people at Dragon Naturally

I've made some adjustments to my speech program. For one, the people at Dragon NaturallySpeaking have explained that using the temporary directory, under user accounts, where most of your temporary files go for installations, it's probably not a good idea for Dragon NaturallySpeaking because these files, if they are in that directory can be corrupted by various disk cleaning programs. Partially because I have been stubborn and partially because I wasn't sure exactly where to put these files. I've held off doing anything until recently.

What I have discovered is that yes it is true, if you leave the installation files for Dragon NaturallySpeaking in the temporary folder on your user accounts, those files can be corrupted by various disk cleaning programs. The workaround for this is quite simple, what I have done is to create a new directory, in the program files master directory, and simply labeled it Dragon setup files, or Dragon setup files. Doing this then puts the installation, and/or setup files, for Dragon NaturallySpeaking in the program files master directory and the program files master directory is a very secure and protected directory for them does because it is the main engine for all of your setup an actual running program files go for your various programs. That being said, putting your installation files for Dragon NaturallySpeaking into that directory will ensure that you will not have any problems should you run any disk cleaning services such as CCleaner or other programs.

I'm passing this workaround on because I believe it'll be important for those who very well may need this assistance.

My default Web Browser is still Internet Explorer 6.0. Not that I particularly like IE 6, I happen t

My default Web Browser is still Internet Explorer 6.0. Not that I particularly like IE 6, I happen to have Firefox, Opera and Safari installed as well.

But, most of my customers still use IE6 and some of their(woefully unpatched) SAP CRM 4.0 and 5.0 IC WebClient Systems still require IE6.

A quick run down on IC WebClient browser support(all the versions support IE6) from the PAM:

CRM 4.0 - IE7 has been released(11 July 2007) conditionally to the implementation of notes 986254, 1005093 and 981710.

SAP CRM 5.0 - IE7 is supported with CRM 5.0 Support Pack 10 since 29 July 2007. Also note that the WebClient on IE7 with Vista will only be supported by 30 September 2008!

SAP CRM 2007 - IE7 support came standard. Also, there is limited support for Firefox 2(This really works, except for the bloody ActiveX controls).

Bottom line, IE6 is still the most trusted and reliable browser to use with the WebClient.

Microsoft released IE7 in October 2006 and it took SAP 9 months to get the WebClient to work with it. It seems IE8 is in beta on its way later this year. Time will tell if the final version 8 will fix the bugs and be as standards compliant as promised.

I don't think there was anything wrong with SAP developing the IC WebClient(and most of its other BSP Applications) only for IE6 as that was what 99% of its customers were using at the time(I have never seen anything other than IE on a corporate network). However, I imagine SAP spent a truck load of money to make its 3 supported CRM versions work with IE7. Now, IE8 is coming and I wonder how much it will cost SAP to provide IE8 support.

My hope is that SAP realizes that by chasing compatibility for individual browser editions is inefficient. Developing to a standard such as XHTML, wasn't feasible 2 years ago, but it surely must become the development direction now.

And there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to display SAP Notes(also a BSP application) with a relatively standards compliant browser such as Opera. By the way, Opera is not supported for any HTMLB based BSP applications, so this is not a CRM specific issue.

A final thought relating to the screenshot above. Why should SAP completely bomb me out if I use an unsupported browser? Why not just run the page and see what happens? Its not as if I am going to log a message about it as the PAM clearly omits Opera as a supported platform.

We all know how awesome Internet Explorer 6 is and how wonderfully it complies to all those standards and stuff, and if we had our way everyone would be on a Mac or using Firefox, but unfortunately it's not the case and there are millions of people still trolling around the internets with the now very outdated Internet Explorer 6.

When building websites it's critical to test on as many systems as possible, but impossible when you only have a single machine to do all of that testing. I did a quick search around this morning and found what appears to be the best solution.

Standalone browsers

These look to be fantastic as they don't overwrite any of the system files that your main browser uses. Ultimately this means you are testing in a fresh copy of IE6 or earlier on the same system as IE7. Of course, I can't figure out a way just yet to run IE6, IE7 and IE8 simultaneously on the one system without using virtual machines...

You can grab the standalone installers from here -> http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/standalone

(Feedback)

Just got this story off the wires and its funny because my homey that grumpy 20 something cat was bothering me to download this yesterday even though I have the beta and I mainly use safari but then I see this... guess thats alot of patches to roll out huh...

Firefox 3 Vulnerability Found

Five hours after Mozilla officially released Firefox 3.0, researchers found a vulnerability in the new browser.

Tipping Point has verified the bug and reported it to Mozilla, Tipping Point said on Wednesday.

Since Mozilla is still working on a fix, the researchers won't share details about the problem. Tipping Point ranked the severity of the vulnerability as high, but said that users would have to click on a link in an e-mail or visit a malicious Web page before being affected. The issue affects users of Firefox 3.0 as well as Firefox 2.0.

Once the problem is fixed, Tipping Point will publish an advisory on its Web site, it said.

Tipping Point found out about the vulnerability through its Zero Day Initiative, which lets researchers earn cash by submitting new vulnerabilities to the company. Once Tipping Point validates the issue, it pays the researcher for the information and notifies the relevant software vendor of the technical details.

Mozilla did not respond to a request for comment.

Mozilla launched its newest browser on Tuesday along with a marketing stunt that went a bit wrong. The company announced that it wanted to set a Guinness World Record for the largest number of software downloads in a 24-hour period. However, the volume of downloads crippled Mozilla's site, and so customers in the U.S. couldn't begin downloading the software until two hours later than expected. Still, Mozilla said it logged more than 8 million downloads within 24 hours. There is currently no record for number of software downloads in a day, but Mozilla must now wait for review of the stunt by Guinness officials.

Resumindo, vale apena testar!

Firefox 3 is attempting to set a new world record for the most downloads over a 24 hour period. The attempt to break the record will begin at 1800 BST on the 17th June.

Paul Kim, head of marketing at Mozilla said Mozilla had no specific target for the number of downloads it would like to achieve on the day but racking up five million would be "awesome".

Firefox 3 boasts some impressive new features including automatic warnings when users stray onto web pages booby-trapped with malicious code. Also a nice new feature is the "Smart Location Bar" that lets people return to web pages they have visited even if they have not bookmarked them or cannot remember the full web address.

Firefox 3 will work with Windows 2000, XP and Vista and some non-Windows operating systems including Linux.

To sign up for the world record attempt please visit http://www.spreadfirefox.com/

Firefox as a web browser is more popular with more "tech-savvy" web users more web pages appeared as their designers intended. Furthermore, Firefox is far ahead of IE in terms of standard compliance. A criticism of IE is the lack of compliance with web standards that can make some web pages look very strange to the user. However, the beta version of IE8 is due in August 2008 and is set to resolve these issues.

In the mean time, sign up to download Firefox 3 and help set a new world record!

Windows Internet Explorer 8 (commonly abbreviated IE8) is the next version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser, succeeding Internet Explorer 7. A Beta 1 targeted for web designers and developers was released to the general public on March 5, 2008. A Beta 2 targeted for all consumers is scheduled to be released in August, 2008.

According to Microsoft, security, ease of use, and improvements in RSS, CSS, and Ajax support are its priorities for IE8, along with significantly better support of web standards than its predecessor. As a result of better standards compliance, IE8 will break compatibility with web pages that were designed around the bugs and quirks of previous versions. To soften the impact of these compatibility issues, IE8 will enable web designers to turn off all breaking changes in IE8. There are three modes that IE8 can render, named, "Quirks," "Strict," and "Standard." When there is an old DOCTYPE or when there is no DOCTYPE, IE renders it like IE5 would (quirks mode). When a special meta element or its corresponding HTTP header is included in a web page, IE8 will render that page like IE7 would (strict mode). Users can switch between the three modes with a few clicks and then restarting Internet Explorer.

The first beta release of IE8, which was demonstrated at the MIX08 conference, contains many new features, including WebSlices and Activities.

Activities are contextual commands that allow a user to invoke an online service from any other page. Actions such as selecting the text or other objects will give users access to the usable Activity services (such as blogging with the selected text, or viewing a map of a selected geographical location), which can then be invoked with the selected object. According to Microsoft, Activities make copying and pasting between web pages easier. IE8 specifies an XML-based encoding which allows a web application or web service to be invoked as an Activity service. How the service will be invoked and for what categories of content it will show up is specified in the XML file. Similarities have been drawn between Activities and the controversial Smart tags, feature experimented with in the IE 6 Beta but withdrawn after criticism (though later included in MS Office).

WebSlices are snippets of the entire page that a user can subscribe to. WebSlices will be automatically kept updated by the browser, and can be viewed directly from the Favorites bar, complete with graphics and visuals. Developers can mark parts of the pages as WebSlices, using the
hAtom
and
hSlice
microformat. WebSlices have been compared to Active Desktop, introduced in Internet Explorer 4 in 1997.

Address bar improvements

The address bar features domain highlighting for added security so that the top-level domain is shown in black whereas the other parts of the URL are grayed out. Domain highlighting however cannot be optionally turned off by users or websites. Other features of the address bar include support for pasting multi-line URLs and an improved model for inserting the selection caret, and selecting words, or entire URLs in the Address bar. The inline autocomplete feature has been dropped from Internet Explorer 8.

Other new features in IE8 includes a redesigned Favorites Bar, which can now host content such as WebSlices, web feeds as well as documents, in addition to website links. The phishing filter has been augmented with Safety Filter that prevents sites known to spread malware from loading. Users need to make an explicit choice to load a blocked site; however this feature can be disabled using Group Policy. A crash recovery mechanism has been incorporated; if the browser crashes, web pages being viewed are recovered when the browser is restarted. Full-page zoom now reflows the text to remove the appearance of horizontal scrollbars on zooming. For developers, IE8 includes tools that allow HTML, CSS and JavaScript debugging directly from the browser.

Internet Explorer 8 includes performance improvements across the HTML parser, CSS engine, mark-up tree manipulation as well as the JScript runtime and the associated garbage collector. Circular Memory leaks, which resulted earlier due to inconsistent handling of JScript objects and DOM objects, have been alleviated. For better security and stability, IE8 uses the Loosely Coupled Internet Explorer (LCIE) architecture and runs the browser frame and tabs in separate processes. Glitches and hangs don't bring down the entire browser. It also leads to higher performance and scalability. Permissions for ActiveX controls have been made more granular - instead of enabling or disabling them globally, they can now be allowed on a per-site basis.

Most of today’s web sites and web applications are built using the JavaScript scripting langua

Most of today's web sites and web applications are built using the JavaScript scripting language. Some may say that a trend towards the fine-tuning of JavaScript interpreters in modern browsers was just a matter of time since any such optimization translates into performance gains. Mozilla recently launched the browser speed race with Firefox 3, which delivers more speed than any other previous Firefox version. Apple answered with Safari 4, claiming the browser’s JavaScript engine has been accelerated by 53%. Welcome to the browser speed race.

Safari 4 has just been seeded to the developers at Apple's developer conference. The manufacturer claims that the software has a 53% faster JavaScript engine than the preceding and current version 3.1 (based on the SunSpider JavaScript Performance test conducted on iMac with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 2.8 GHz, with 2 GB of RAM and running under Mac OS X Snow Leopard.) Although Firefox 3 RC3 was the first to deliver significant JavaScript performance improvement, Apple apparently is exceeding those gains with Safari 4.

Apple uses a new and improved JavaScript interpreter code-named SquirrelFish, which is provided on an open-source basis from the WebKit project, the same organization that makes the open-source engine used by Safari to render web pages. According to the WebKit project, the SquirrelFish engine is 1.6 times faster than the JavaScript engine in Safari 3.1.

SquirrelFish does its magic by turning JavaScript script into so-called bytecodes, an optimized code much more suitable for run-time execution than natural language-based JavaScript commands, which are longer and more complicated to interpret – and therefore are slower.

Why JavaScript performance matters
Most today's web applications and web 2.0 sites rely on the JavaScript scripting language originally created by current Mozilla CTO Brendan Eich while he was employed by Netscape. JavaScript acts as glue that connects a user interface rendered in a web browser with a database and programming logic running in a web server. The browser's JavaScript engine is solely responsible for interpreting and executing JavaScript commands embedded in HTML code. As a result, a browser's JavaScript engine performance is directly related to the performance and responsiveness of a web application, contributing to an improved user experience.

The fact that many applications grow in size and become more bloated with each release means that a browser that can run web applications faster and make user interfaces more responsive on any computer is actually a big deal. You don’t have to have any specific market forecasting talent to predict that this trend may be impacting browser market shares: Speed can directly translate into more usability for most of us. Clearly, JavaScript handling is on its way to become a powerful weapon in the browser market.

SpiderMonkey, SquirrelFish, Tamarin and more
Mozilla was the first to introduce significant speed gains with Firefox 3 beta 5 (the final version is expected to ship by mid-June). Firefox has its Gecko engine to render web pages, which is generally considered to be slightly slower than Safari's WebKit – which is largely responsible for the "fastest browser in the world" status Safari enjoys. Firefox' JavaScript implementation is based on Mozilla's own and decade old SpiderMonkey technology, which many considered to be the fastest JavaScript interpreter until SquirrelFish came out.

Although in beta, Firefox 3 scored with many reviewers who are praising the browser’s performance improvements, with WSJ's Walt Mossberg declaring the browser a "winner." But now that the SquirrelFish/Safari combination appears to be offsetting the speed gains in Firefox 3 and may set a new benchmark, we can expect more direct competition between Mozilla and Apple. Mozilla has plans to expand SpiderMonkey with Adobe's JavaScript engine called Tamarin, included in Flash 9, which has a so-called "tracing" feature designed to enable faster code execution. However, the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark claims that SquirrelFish is at least 1.9 times faster than Tamarin.

Mozilla plans to wedge Tamarin into Firefox and match the API’s of both technologies "There are areas in which SpiderMonkey is faster than Tamarin and areas where it's not. We're looking to build hybrids that are best-of-breed for both worlds and we're going to pull those into the Firefox release when ready," Mozilla co-founder Mike Shaver recently said.

Can IE8 compete?
The big variable in this game is Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 8, currently in beta 1 phase. IE8 is expected to deliver speed gains in JavaScript performance as well. However, Microsoft is facing a tough task. The fact that the software giant is often criticized for delivering bloated and inefficient software certainly doesn't help. In our tests, the first beta of IE8 shows no noticeable speed gains in running web applications.

Quite the opposite is the case, actually. Websites and web applications run noticeably slower than in IE7. The whole browsing experience generally appears to be less responsive. Of course, IE8 is in an early development stage and you can bet Microsoft is going to tweak its performance. The only problem is that the software giant will have to work to raise the stakes in the browser race. If IE8 under-delivers, the market could respond with further market share erosion for IE. It is evident now that JavaScript engine performance has become a key metric in the newest race for the title of fastest browser.

The battle ahead is nicely summed by Mozilla co-founder Mike Shaver who said the following: "They [Apple] have dropped SquirrelFish in now and got a big speed up there. We've got more coming on our side. You'll see this leapfrog pattern over and over. We're not going to let anybody slack on that and the other browser vendors need to keep up, too."

According to Net Applications, Firefox 3 captured almost one fifth (18.41%) of the browser market in May, followed by Safari 3.1 which hit 6.25%. Microsoft's Internet Explorer continues on its pace of a slow but steady decline, ending up at 73.75% in May. Microsoft has scheduled second beta of IE8 for an August release, with a generally expected final release in the fourth quarter of this year.

Just a quick followup to the IE8 post I published earlier. Many of the Tech*Ed public terminals have IE8 beta 2 on them. So, I thought, "Hey, I'll check my work email real quickly". WRONG!

When using IE8 Beta 2, after you login to email.rmic.com, you have to re-login every time you double-click (to open) an email. Man, that sucks! Real Nice.

So, this was a pretty good session. Most of the guts are listed out below. The areas I liked the most, which

Customer Trust

Phishing

IE7 - Phishing Filter included & International Domain Name protection (make sure you're not fooled by international characters)

IE8 - the *actual* domain name is highlighted in the address bar after you click link in phishing email.

Security

Targeted Phishing Attacks

see above

Exploits in common ActiveX controls

IE7 - "opt-in" option so users approve the ActiveX control for use.

IE7 - ActiveX Kill Bits that allow control with known flaw to be prevented from loading in IE

IE8 - Per-User ActiveX contains risk to a single user account

IE8 - Per-site ActiveX allows developer to restrict the control to only their site/app (things like flash controls are on a pre-approved list)

Compromised Partner Site

IE7 - No protection

IE8 - Cross Domain Requests object ensures data is only shared after a mutual validation of identity

IE8 - Cross Document Messaging helps apps send messages between apps only after mutual validation of identity.

Group Policy

There's over 1,300 policies in IE8

New features are exposed via group policy

Safari, Firefox and IE8 ALL support the same standards!

Decide when your business can afford to stop supporting IE6 & IE7 so you only have to support 1 browser standard (IE8).

IE8 will run in "standards" mode, by default, which adheres to only standards. User can switch to IE7 compatibility mode if a site looks funky (b/c it was written for IE7, but IE8 rendered in standards mode).

Go to: http://msdn.microsoft.com/iecompat to learn how developers can use the page/site compatibility meta tag so that it notifies IE8 that it has code specifically for IE7. If you use the Meta tag, then user can leave browser in 'standards' mode and it will still render fine.

IS Dept can enforce the mode that IE8 uses via Group Policy.

You can use Group Policy Editor to set IE8 to IE7 mode if you need to. That will override any end-user settings. If end-user sets it to IE8 mode, it will still render sites using IE7 mode. Very cool.

Crash Recovery (Very Nice)

Tabs now isolated into separate processes - one tab crashing does NOT bring down the browser

Crash recovery reloads tabs when they crash (like Firefox now)

Announcement regarding Slipstream

IE8 - Will be able to add IE8 to your current WinXP image!

Couple new user Features:

Activities - Highlight text, like an address, on page and you get a floating box with activities (like 'translate', 'map', 'define', etc.). You can click to map the address, etc.

Webslices - allows you to subscribe to portions of websites and include them in your link bar. Pretty cool.
