Apro la confezione. Complessa. È la mia prima volta. Titubo. 5 cd?.

New York, 24 April 2009

Sebelumnya (2006) U.S. office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees juga menganugerahkan Humanitarian of the Year kepada Hosseini untuk bukunya ini.

I’ve always been somewhat of a slow reader, and as a journalist, that’s not exactly the best thi

I’ve always been somewhat of a slow reader, and as a journalist, that’s not exactly the best thing to be. But, the other day I finally realized why. I’m not the kind of person that can just skim a book to get its general plot, and breeze through it without paying close attention to details and say that I read it for what it’s worth.

Also, in a nerdy sort of way, I often find myself re-reading particular sentences over and over just to admire the style in which the author chose to write it—it’s complexity, diction, beauty, etc. For that reason alone, I often get stuck spending more than needed to finish just one page of a book. I also sometimes feel that I have a bad memory, another characteristic that’s not exactly good to have as a journalist. But, through my over analysis of things and drive to get every detail perfect I feel it’s not important to have a good memory in general, but rather important to remember what’s important. So by reading books with a detailed eye I feel that I pick up on things that others might not pick up on, which may be important details later on in the book. So essentially, by taking more time to read the book I can understand it better and get a greater experience from reading it than those who rush through it.

Anyways, I guess the point of this blog was to say that I made a goal for myself this summer to read as many books as I possibly can. Needless to say, that goal was quickly broken. I started off the summer strong reading Khaled Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns before May was even over. I had read Hosseini’s Kite Runner after my older sister and I made a deal. I was to read Kite Runner, and she was to read, Tears of the Giraffe by Alexander McCall Smith (a book I read in my Ethics: Ethnicity and Eating class a few semesters ago) which of course she never did. I however, always ( J ) keep my end of a bargain…not to mention the Kite Runner was a great book.

Anyways, I started reading A Thousand Splendid Suns after finals were over and I have to say that it was one of the best books I had read in a very long time. Though both Hosseini’s books were amazing, I think I liked Splendid Suns better than Kite Runner (one person suggested that perhaps the reason for this was because Suns was written from a girl’s perspective while Kite Runner was from a boy’s perspective, which very well might be the case). I rarely find books that I am sitting on edge trying to figure out what happens next, but this was one of those books. At the same time I ruined the book for myself, which I often also do with movies, because I have a bad habit of guessing what is going to happen next…and am usually right :]. But nonetheless, for me, this book gets and A++.

**OK, in an effort to make my blogs not seem endless, I am going to try to break up these next few according to the different books/topics from each book they are about.

If this was boring for you I'm sorry. I promise this blog “series about what I read” will get better and more interesting!...I hope.

Keep reading and feel free to leave me comments :] I know this isn't your typical blog with juicy details of the happening of my weekend or day, etc. but hopefully it's still interesting.

ALSO, if there are any typos in any of my blogs I apologize. Please don't think I'm dumb. I just simply don't have time to go through all of my entries and make sure all of the grammar and punctuation is correct.

My god vilken bok!

Having read and loved Khaled Hossieni's first novel 'The Kite Runner', I decided to read his second too 'The Thousand Splendid Suns'. Oh What a beautiful story it was, but equally heart wrenching. As his first novel was through a Man's perspective, His second is Afghanistan seen through a Woman's eye.

This story is about Mariam and Laila, along with every such woman in who dare to survive in a country where constant wars delude the Humans perspective and existence - Afghanistan. It was very sad to read about the state of women, the extent of exploitation, where woman are considered as something filthy and not as normal Humans, But In what a ravishing way did Khaled say this story ... !!!!

I cried for Mariam, just as i cried for Laila. I cried for the injustice and agony faced by woman there. Reading this novel, the story of which is plotted very close to the reality was a pleasant change from reading the usual fictional stories to me where I got to feel their pain, understood their tears and prayed mutely for those myriad woman living amid that savage world. I couldnt keep the book down once I laid my hands on it so captivating was the story which is anything but fictional.

A definitely to-read Once again from Khaled, which left me earning for his third book, which i hope would be soon. This story reminded me of a movie I saw awhile back - Provoked. The plot of which is a bit alike The Thousand Splendid Suns.
P.S: Isnt the book cover absolutely stunning, A perfect description of what the book holds - Hope of a Woman .. !!! ?

As you all must have understood by reading the title, This post is about a poignant story I read awhile back 'The Kite Runner' by Khaled Hosseini.

The most beautiful fact about 'The Kite Runner' is It felt very close to the reality, I could instantly picture a boy like Amir and someone like Hassan. The plight of people living amid wars in Afghanistan brought tears in my eyes. Wars destroying their culture, uprooting their heritage, Ruling and torturing them in their own land was gruesome, I just dint realise when i started crying for those people. The Characters are so beautifully potrayed, some of whom I instantly fell in love with, and some whom I couldnt help but Hate.
This story is about Amir, a upper class Pashtun, who enjoys the luxury of education, material comfort and a playmate Hassan, His Hazara servants son. Throughout the story the Loyality and friendhsip between them are tested, where Hassan often ends up paying a Heavy price more than life itself and Amir chooses a path of less resisitance hiding behind his superior class. Marking the betrayal of Amir towards Hassan, the scar on Amir's heart tortures and ridicules him his whole life when one day He gets a chance to redeem himself, choosing of which leads him to an another perilous challenge filled with Love, Hope, Loss and Happiness, explaning him the essence of His life, His friendship with his longtime companion Hassan.

I wish i could write more, I wish my words wouldnt have betrayed me. This book left me absolutely speechless just like His lates novel 'The Thousand Splendid Suns' which I will reviewing shortly inshallah. I encourage everyone to read this book, I am sure you would be amazed by the beautiful and enriching debutant stroy from Khaled.

A very heartwarming read by Khaled - The Kite Runner.

Just finished Khalid Hosseini's "A Thousand Splendid Suns". Outstanding book, well narrated by Atossa Leoni. Some books you can lose interest in, but not this one - kept me constantly listening. It will be interesting to see if they make a movie out of this one. No doubt, I'm sure. The book certainly gives you an appreciation of what women endure on the other side of the world (not to disparage those who live on this side of the world!).

If you haven't listened or read either of Khalid's books, you should do yourself a favor. Not only is it excellent writing, but it leads to a better understanding of the people who are living in those countries, where turmoil is the word of the day.

I'm so glad that i had the oppurtunity to watch such a rare beautiful film. It's an adaptation of the novel of the same title The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. I haven't read the book yet but i'm planning to get a copy of it on the coming days.

The story was brillant and compelling. Two young boys - Hasaan a loyal friend, tough, persistent to his beliefs, willing to do anything for his friend; Amir a well-to-do boy, passive, a writer in the making - torn apart by a hideous incident that crucially changed their lives...and then further separated by war. The story showcased the pre-war Afghanistan on the background - its humble and peaceful life with its own color and unique beauty and how war turned it into waste and rubbles. I won't give anymore details...hehe

I love how the film was done. Every scene is a feast for the eyes. I would like to give a special commendation on the film's original score which i think one of the most beautiful scores ever made. In fact, its better than this year's oscar winner for original score which is also one of my favorites. Acting-wise, the two boys who played the major roles were very impressive. Very genuine acting. The rest of the cast were also good.

I can't believe this. I'm already giving a review...hehehe...What i'm just trying to say is that - you have to watch it !

*The photo above is the film's official poster.

A discussão ultrapassou as obras.
