En prenant le métro ce matin, j’ai été interloqué par une publicité affichée sur les murs. On y voit pas grand chose par contre on peut y lire : test VIH gratuit, résultat en 30 minutes pour les hommes gays.

Je me suis senti mal devant cette pub et le message qu’elle peut transmettre, en particulier avec l’histoire du SIDA telle qu’on la connaît.

Lorsque l’on découvre le SIDA dans les années 80 (ou du moins la maladie), les médias la surnomme le cancer gay, pendant longtemps la population pense que cette maladie concerne uniquement les homosexuels.

On associe rapidement ces pratiques sexuelles et la toxicomanie (une des sources de transmission du virus), la défense de ce groupe s’organise vite en particulier avec Act Up et d’autres organisations, elles dénoncent le retour d’un moralisme des conservateurs qui jugent que la maladie est un cancer qui punirait les homosexuels !

Mais le mal est fait, et encore aujourd’hui le SIDA est souvent assimilé à la population homosexuelle. Cette stigmatisation a rendu compliquée la vie de nombreuses personnes et de nombreux jeunes se retrouvent avec une difficulté supplémentaire lors de leur Coming Out (annonce à son entourage de son homosexualité) avec des parents inquiets de voir leur progéniture tomber malade.

Il est vrai que lorsque la maladie s’est déclarée, la communauté homosexuelle a été touchée plus durement, et la cause est les moeurs de la communauté qui a une tendance à pratiquer leur sexualité avec de nombreux partenaires. Pourtant on remarque que la sensibilisation a été rapide dans ce milieu et que l’épidémie a vite régressé pour s’étendre à la population hétérosexuelle et en dehors de la sexualité (toxicomanie).

Et c’est aujourd’hui que l’on remarque que cette stigmatisation a été mauvaise  autant pour les gays que pour les autres, car la sensibilisation dans les milieux hétéros et toxicomanes est beaucoup plus faible, il y a seulement peu de temps que les pharmacies (du moins en France) fournissent des kits sains (aiguille et seringue propre et préservatif), peu de temps que l’on voit des campagnes de sensibilisation pour les hétéros.

Je ne dis pas que les homos sont devenus sains et fiables mais connaissant bien cette communauté, je n’en ai pas rencontré un seul qui ne sache pas les moyens de transmissions, ce qui est fréquent parmi mes connaissances hétérosexuelles.

Alors lorsque je vois des publicités proposant les tests de dépistages gratuits pour les homosexuels, j’aimerai savoir ce que pense un gamin de 14 ou 15 ans qui voient cette affiche dans le métro, dont les connaissances sur la maladie sont plus que vagues :

- S'il est hétéro, ce sera “cool apparemment cela ne me concerne pas vraiment.”

- S'il est homo, ce sera “comment annoncer à mes parents que je suis homosexuel, est ce une maladie?”

On demande encore aujourd’hui pourquoi en France plus d’1/3 des suicides sont liées à l’orientation sexuelle ? C’est vrai ça, pourquoi ??

30 minutes later I get a knock on my door, and this poor white guy with an afro whips out a Victoria's Secret bag with my bra inside.  BEST MOMENT OF MY LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!  I felt like Oprah - I wanted to live there and never leave after that.  Didn't happen.

I haven't been to very many weddings, so when it was time to light the unity candle I broke out into a cold sweat because I had no idea WTF I was doing.  I just copied Sue. 

This is where I tell everyone not to fuck up the marriage license, because it's like $15.00 an error. 

Whenever I learn how to put videos on here, I will include one of our wedding.  You will get to see the part where the song we picked out prior to the wedding was supposed to play, but the stereo stuff was malfunctioning.  I'm like whatever no big deal, I don't care about the song anyway.  But then, as a special SURPRISE the minister busts out with this old pre 1900's song, and I'm like where THE FUCK did that come from?  The look on our faces is the best part of the wedding.

My dad was always big on the 'we are German' thing, and I know we're German, there's no denying that.  Most of Eastern Texas is of German decent, and there is tons of influence from the Germans here.  Where do you think we got chicken fried steak and chili?  One time we went to our first and last family reunion on my PawPaw's (grandpa) side of the family, and they had this book with all of this crap on our ancestors.  Supposedly, we escaped here to flee the wrath of the Nazis because we were helping the Jews in some sort of way.   Which totally sounds right, because I am always that 'we have to do something to help them!!!' person.   We changed our German name, and made it the more socially acceptable 'Damon'. 

My Nana (grandma) is coonass, and Native American.  I don't know the proper word for coonass, because that is the answer I always heard when I asked my dad what my nana was.  So there ya go.  Oh, and here's what Wiki had to say about it:

A faggot is a kind of meatball, a traditional dish in the UK,^[1][2] especially the Midlands of England.^[3] It is made from meat off-cuts and offal, especially pork.^[3] A faggot is traditionally made from pig heart, liver and fatty belly meat or bacon minced together, with herbs added for flavouring and sometimes breadcrumbs. The mixture is shaped in the hand into balls, wrapped round with caul (a membrane from the pig's abdomen), and baked. A similar dish, almôndega, is traditional in Portugal.

The first use in print cited in the OED is in 1851, from Thomas Mayhew, although this appears to be a calzone- or pasty-like dish, with an outer wrapper of caul, covering a filling of mixed pork offal. This was in London.

The dish saw its greatest popularity with the rationing during World War II but has become less popular in recent years. Faggots are usually homemade and are to be found in traditional butchers' shops and market stalls.

A popular dish is "faggots and Peas". This is a common combination in the Black Country area of the West Midlands, especially so since the 18th century industrialisation onwards, but also for hundreds of years prior. It is still common to see small butchers shops in the area selling Faggots to their own (sometimes secret) recipe for a cheap price. Commonly, the faggot consists of pork liver and heart minced, wrapped in kel, with onion and breadcrumbs. Often, the Faggot should be cooked in a crock, with gravy and served with peas and mashed potato.

Faggots are also known as "ducks" in the Midlands, Yorkshire and Lancashire, often as "savoury ducks". "In Leigh market in 1905 you could buy a savoury duck rolled up in an oatmeal cake."

The best-known commercial brand is Mr Brain's Faggots, a frozen food product available in Britain and Ireland, which is made of liver and onions rolled into meatballs and served in a sauce. These faggots differ significantly from the traditional recipe.

Pictures of the product are a popular joke in some Western countries due to additional meanings of the name. Faggots were used as the subject of an infamous 2004 radio advert by the UK supermarket chain Somerfield[1]. The commercial featured a husband challenging his wife's repetitive routine of a set meal for each day of the week. While he wanted lasagne, he was told that, as it was Friday, he was to have faggots. He responded: "I've nothing against faggots, I just don't fancy them." This advert was subsequently deemed to have breached the rules on Good Taste, Decency and Offence to Public Feeling of the Advertising and Sponsorship Code, and was banned from future re-broadcast by the industry regulator, Ofcom.

Then the minister let me slip her the tongue.  I get to sleep next to this insanely hot woman every night.  I guess she doesn't know how much money I don't make.  We will keep this between us.

Unge homofile hjelper unge

Homofiles ungdomstelefon består av frivillige unge homofile og lesbiske man kan ringe for å snakke om identitet, forelskelse og seksualitet.

- Mellom oss og innringerne finnes ingen profesjonell barriere, sier koordinator Jan Bakke.

De er seks faste og fire ekstravakter som gratis tar et tak ved Homofiles ungdomstelefon. Alle er unge. Og alle er homofile eller lesbiske.

Koordinator Jan Bakke tror telefonvaktenes unge alder og at de selv er homofile gjør det lettere for ungdom å ta kontakt.

Der egne erfaringer eller kunnskaper stopper, henviser de innringerne dit kompetansen finnes. Det kan være psykolog. Det kan være lege.

- Vi skiller oss fra de andre hjelpetelefonene fordi telefonvaktenes egne erfaringer er kilde til råd og hjelp, sier koordinator Jan Bakke. - Dessuten er vi er den eneste telefonen som retter seg spesielt mot homofile og lesbiske.

Hovedtyngden av de 300 telefonene som Homofiles ungdomstelefon besvarer hver måned, dreier seg om hiv og aids. På tross av at innringerne er vokst opp med aidstrusselen og en konstant informasjonsstrøm om sykdommen, dreier de fleste aidsspørsmålene seg om smitteveier og frykt for å ha blitt smittet.

- Disse telefonene kommer gjerne fra folk som har oppsøkt risikosituasjoner. Vår oppgave er først å berolige. Deretter opplyse og gi råd.

- Vi opplever at mange innringere engster seg vel mye for nettopp aids. Det er jo andre kjønnssykdommer, som gonoré, som smitter lettere. Men engstelsen er vel et uttrykk for hysteriet som har vært om aids. - Samtidig trengs det fortsatt informasjon. Det er en god del unge homofile som har distanse til aids. De føler at sykdommen tilhørte forrige generasjon og at det ikke er en trussel som angår dem, sier Bakke.

Som landsdekkende støtte- og informasjonstelefon har Homofiles ungdomstelefon operert i to år. Telefonvaktene velges ut ved intervju og alle som er på jobb skal være kurset i sikrere sex og samtaleteknikk. Alle telefonvaktene må skrive under på en taushetserklæring.

Telefonen retter seg mot aldersgruppa 13-26 år. De fleste innringerne er i gruppen 19-22 år. Litt flere gutter enn jenter tar kontakt. Tlf: 810 00 277

I say that Adam and Eve were god with a number of reasons:

At 1st: Equal treatment of men and women, not that god is only a man and therefore men may proclaim the belief and women may not, I am for example in favor of a woman priest, pope, imam, rabbi, etc.
At 2nd: I find that you are best of when you believe in yourself and with the declaration believing that Adam and Eve were god it means that god is in yourself.
At 3rd: Adam and Eve are the ultime expression of god, god is in everything, but not everthing can decide for itself, Adam and Eve however could, they had the ultimate freedom to choose.
At 4th: From the belief that Adam and Eve were god and their posterity therefore also, it means that there is only one human ras.
At 5th: Adam and Eve are models for love and fertility, people may identify themselves with Adam and Eve. Basically, every man should find its Eve and every woman should find its Adam. But, since Adam and Eve were god, and therefore also the posterity of them. I thereby state that Adam/Adam or Eve/Eve relations are divine as well, besides the fact that they cannot reproduce, I do not dissapprove these realtionships. The freedom to choose stands very firm with me.

Revenim, deci, la subiectul principal al zilei: prigonirea fumătorilor, cetăţeni nu model, dar la fel de buni şi la fel de răi ca toţi ceilalţi, care mai au ceva în plus: vor să îşi petreacă o parte a timpului contemplînd rotocoale de fum de tutun. Pentru că asta le place. Pentru că ştiu ce aleg şi nu vor să îi ia statul de idioţi incapabili să decidă pentru ei înşişi. Pentru că sînt conştienţi de riscuri, dar acceptă că nu vor trăi o eternitate, oricum.

Pentru că o viaţă trăită doar de dragul de a o trăi nu are nici un farmec. Pentru că şi ăia care fac yoga, mănîncă doar tărîţe fierte şi beau numai apă plată neîncepută, binecuvîntată şi descîntată, fără ioni negativi, pot avea ghinionul să moară la 30 de ani călcaţi de o maşină. Aşa cum, de exemplu, se poate ca fumătorii să trăiască aproape centenar, precum proful meu de latină din generală, care a trăit activ şi a predat pînă aproape de 80 de ani, deşi suda BT necartonat ţigară de la ţigară, de i se îngălbeniseră degetele.

Cum este posibil, în mileniul ăsta, să fii arătat cu degetul, înjurat, numit intolerant şi înapoiat dacă te iei - un nou exemplu la întîmplare - de homosexuali, dar să fii aplaudat şi premiat dacă îi faci pe fumătorii de tutun albie de porci? Cum se poate ca, în mileniul ăsta, toate minorităţile să fie încurajate să îşi exprime diversitatea, să se întreacă unii în ozosepi şi gulaş, alţii în silicoane păroase, să poată exista legal inclusiv asociaţii de pedofili, dar fumătorii să fie scoşi în stradă, ca nişte ciumaţi?

Am făcut o antiteză en passant ceva mai jos între consumatorii de heroină şi fumători şi am sentimentul că merită exploatată un pic mai mult.

În urmă cu vreo şase ani, cînd lucram la Prima TV în calitate de reporter special, fac eroarea să vin în redacţie cu o ştire despre niscaiva consumatori convinşi de heroină, prinşi în flagrant de Brigada Specială de Intervenţie a Jandarmeriei, unde comandant, pe atunci, era nimeni altul decît generalul Pahonţu. Material exclusiv, cu alergătură şi circ, cu cătuşe şi tot restul ingredientelor care, în 2002, încă erau inedite şi făceau rating. Boon.

Şi, dintre toţi editorii de la televiziune, în ziua respectivă se nimerise la serviciu ăl mai sclifosit, mai talentat, mai dăruit de Dumnezeu omenirii de editor, cu boală grea pe tot ce poartă uniformă, editor căruia eu trebuia să îi ridic subiectul la fileu. Nu contează cum îl cheamă, oricum e un nimeni. "Cu ce e ştirea ta, Ursule?" catadicseşte pretinul să îmi adreseze de la augusta sa înălţime adăpostită în subsolul Prima TV. "Cu nişte drogaţi prinşi în flagrant cînd băgau în venă", i-am rezumat eu subiectul în mai puţin de 12 cuvinte, aşa cum cere BBC.

Şi în clipa aia s-a terminat cu şmecheria. A urmat o lecţie de morală de vreo oră, în care mi-a explicat băiatul ăla şcolit pe la tot felul de instituţii de mass media din Occident că bieţii consumatori de heroină sînt nişte victime, că e de ajuns o singură dată să bagi în venă heroină şi eşti prins în capcana dealerilor, care o singură greşeală aşteaptă de la tine. Era să mă stoarcă de lacrimi cînd mi-a spus cît e de greu să fii dependent de halucinogene, cum şi el, recent, fusese pus de dentist pe novocaină, la o operaţie (în care mai bine îi extrăgea limba spurcată, hahaha!) şi cum simţea că ar fi ucis pentru încă o doză, atunci cînd efectul substanţei s-a dus.

Una peste alta, eu eram nedrept cu ei, sărmanii consumatori de heroină care furau, spărgeau şi dădeau în cap ca să mai facă bani de o bilă. În opinia colegului meu distins şi european, eu le trăgeam o flegmă de la înălţimea poziţiei mele de jurnalist unor oameni pe care ar fi trebuit să îi ajut, să fac o poveste despre suferinţa lor, în loc să îi laud pe jandarmi - nişte nenorociţi de gabori, în opinia lui ilustră - că îi prind şi îi bagă la zdup. Deci nu a intrat deloc ştirea.

Acelaşi cetăţean, în drum spre ieşire, a trecut prin locul de fumat - care atunci reprezenta cam toată redacţia Prima TV. Şi, tolerantul, compasionatul şi înţelegătorul de mai devreme a început o diatribă sălbatică împotriva fumătorilor, care ar trebui scoşi dracului în curte, să nu îi mai polueze lui aerul. Băiatul care aproape vărsase lacrimi mai devreme pentru consumatorii de heroină care fură, le vînd părinţilor din casă tot ce au ca să le umple buzunarele traficanţilor, se metamorfozase într-un inchizitor care spumega şi înfiera, care le găsise vină pentru toate necazurile societăţii fumătorilor de tutun, plătitori de taxe, accize, impozite, angajaţi la patron, membri ai segmentului activ din populaţie, creatori de plusvaloare.

Cu o altă ocazie, un coleg homosexual, mereu gata să se lupte pentru drepturile celor ca el, un coleg pe care l-am admirat întotdeauna pentru curaj, inteligenţă, îndîrjire şi voinţă, a dat cu mucii în fasole rău de tot. Se întîmpla să fim într-un restaurant din România, în salonul de fumători, cînd numai ce aud o voce nazală cu accent ardelenesc că protestează la ţigara mea. Şi la ţigările altor colegi care, la şpriţul consumat împreună, şi-au aprins şi cîte un tutun. "Di ce nu ieşiţ voi afară cu ţigările alia, de-mi poluaţi mie aierul? Cum nu vinie ia Uniunia Ieuropiană sî vă scuată pi tăţ afară care fumaţi?" a început să se isterizeze bezmetic prietenul.

Nimeni nu i-a zis nimic, deşi noi, fumătorii, l-am înjurat, dar numai în gînd, aşa, tolerant. În schimb, ia imaginaţi-vă cum ar fi fost să se ridice unul, mai curajos, cu ceva băutură în plus la bord, şi să îi dea o replică despre homosexuali. Asta ar fi fost naşpa, discriminator, retrograd, intolerant şi ne-european, nu?

Ce au în comun cei doi băieţi despre care am povestit mai devreme? Ambii au istorie pe la BBC, prin Marea Britanie. Adică exact acolo unde fumătorii sînt persecutaţi mai ceva ca vrăjitoarele pe vremuri, pentru că nişte puritani liberali au reuşit să obţină nişte legi cam ca alea de purificare rasială date de Hitler, în anii 30. Pentru acelaşi scop declarat - "o societate mai bună" - oameni care nu au comis nici o faptă antisocială, care nu au luat nimănui de la gură, sînt arătaţi cu degetul şi trimişi în stradă, sînt denigraţi la televizor şi demonizaţi în ziare.

Ei bine, în Marea Britanie, acum e cool să fii homo, sînt legale inclusiv căsătoriile gay. În schimb, e naşpa să fii fumător, eşti privit ca un vierme, eşti trimis la ghena de gunoi să fumezi, în ploaie, pentru că nu ai voie printre oameni. Vi se pare drept? Fumătorii nu se iau de homosexuali să îi întrebe ce îşi bagă şi unde! Sînt convins că mulţi dintre cei care au votat pro căsătoriile gay în Marea Britanie sînt fumători care au considerat că e mai bine să tolereze pentru a fi toleraţi.

Deci în momentul de faţă poţi face sex cu acelaşi sex, chiar eşti încurajat. În şcolile occidentale poţi învăţa cu profesor despre orientările sexuale alternative, chiar de la vîrsta de 11 ani. În Marea Britanie, "age of consent", adică vîrsta legală pentru a face sex cu o persoană, este de 16 ani pentru relaţiile homosexuale, deci poţi face sex gay cu un minor, ocrotit de sfînta lege. Dacă o iei pe heroină, nu-i problemă, există asociaţii caritabile care îţi fac rost de heroină moca, doar ca să nu mai mergi să o cumperi de la dealeri. Eşti ţinut în braţe, consiliat, tratat, psihanalizat, sfătuit, ajutat, asistat, călăuzit, consolat, reintegrat - nu eşti lăsat în drum. În drum e locul fumătorilor.

Ultimul episod al serialului cu acelasi nume, lansat insa pe ecrane, dar cu 120 de minute mai lung ! Cam atat ar fi de zis despre filmul asta. Doua ore juma in care se trage de timp la mare arta si se intampla fix ce se-ntampla in fiecare episod. Adica fiecare face exact ce facea si inainte, Samantha alearga dupa futaiuri, Miranda dupa cariera, Charlotte dupa viatza de familie si Carrie aia dupa pantofi si fuste de firma. A, si era sa uit, se cerata cu Big si se impaca la loc, deci nimic nou sub soare. Stiu ca sunt si femei care citesc blogul asta, asa ca habar nu am ce sa mai scriu despre filmul asta fara sa jignesc pe nimeni. Dar, filmul in sine e o jignire, adusa tuturor alora carora le placea cat de cat serialul. Am zis cat de cat, ca pt fanii pe viatza, o sa le placa si asta:)) Filmul se inversuneaza sa demonstreze ca exista si viata dupa 40 si ceva de ani, dar esueaza lamentabil in incercarea asta. In afara de Charlotte aia (la care nu se vede asa vizibil) au imbatranit toate, Jessica Parker arata aici (sanchi, ca nu numai aici) ca moartea fara machiaj, Samantha la 52 de ani e deja penibila in rolul respectiv, de fapt toate nu reusesc sa convinga pe nimeni. Uno de estos tópicos es el famoso «eslabón perdido», que también ha llegado hasta nuestros días. Cuando Darwin publicó el Origen de las Especies en 1859, muchos de sus seguidores -especialmente Thomas Huxley- comenzaron a aplicar la teoría de la selección natural a la evolución humana, tema al que Sir Charles dedicó un libro algunos años después: «La ascendencia del hombre» (1871). En aquellos años, prácticamente no se conocían fósiles de homínidos, a excepción de algunos restos de neandertal sin identificar descubiertos en 1856.

Los críticos de la época a las teorías de Darwin exigieron como prueba la presentación de fósiles transicionales entre el hombre y el simio y, ante su ausencia, acuñaron el término "eslabón perdido" para hacer referencia a lo que calificaron como una laguna insalvable en la nueva teoría.

El asunto no era exactamente como lo planteaban los antievolucionistas decimonónicos, dado que los fósiles transicionales no constituían un error, sino una predicción de la teoría darwinista, es decir, si ésta era válida, deberían aparecer formas de transición no solamente en la línea evolutiva humana, sino la del resto de las especies.

Y, ni más ni menos, esto es lo que ocurrió, dotando a la teoría evolutiva de tal fuerza que, junto con otras muchas evidencias, hacen que hoy día la evolución sea considerada un hecho probado más allá de toda duda razonable.

Sin embargo, el concepto de «eslabón perdido» perdura en boca de multitud de artículos periodísticos y en círculos fundamentalistas partidarios del diseño inteligente (creacionismo).

Cada uno cuenta la fiesta...

Resulta extremadamente curioso como dos de los colectivos que siguen utilizando habitualmente el caduco concepto de «eslabón perdido» lo siguen haciendo de forma totalmente opuesta, en función de sus intereses.

Creacionistas y fundamentalistas religiosos hacen gala de su memoria y atención selectivas, completamente ciegos ante los descubrimientos de los últimos 150 años y se sitúan en posiciones propias de finales del siglo XIX, argumentando impertérritamente que no existen fósiles de transición y que tras más de 100 años, los «evolucionistas» siguen buscando el dichoso eslabón. Los miles de fósiles de homínidos primitivos, incluyendo Parantropus, Austrolopitecus y Homo, así como cualquier otra especie transicional extinta, simplemente no existen para ellos.

En el lado contrario, muchos periodistas ávidos de dar sensacionalismo a sus noticias, encuentran el eslabón perdido (en singular) varias veces al año. Prácticamente ante cualquier descubrimiento de un nuevo fósil que se filtra a las agencias de prensa o incluso alguna nueva especie viva de características primitivas, redactan rimbombantes titulares que hacen imaginar que hemos alcanzado la comprensión final de la evolución universal. Claro ejemplo de ésto es el titular que apareció en algún periódico cuando hace unos años se descubrieron huesos de un primate primitivo de hace 13 millones de años en Cataluña; el periodista, ni corto ni perezoso, tituló el artículo tan categóricamente como "El 'eslabón perdido' es catalán".

No existe uno, sino muchos eslabones

Es en el caso del árbol evolutivo humano, quizá por lo difícil que es abandonar el antropocentrismo, en el que con mayor frecuencia se alude a estos antiguos términos, tanto por parte del creacionismo como del periodismo sensacionalista.

Y, sin embargo, hominídos es uno de los grupos donde más "eslabones" conocemos. Resulta triste comprobar como unos y otros han quedado anclados en los conocimientos de finales del XIX, donde únicamente se conocían algunos restos de neandertales que, en aquellos tiempos, eran considerados Homo sapiens.

Hoy día, existen tantas especies de homínidos primitivos que el árbol evolutivo está en contínuo cambio, cada vez que un nuevo descubrimiento aporta más luz a la evolución de las diferentes ramas o a la forma en la que los ancestros del hombre salieron de África y colonizaron el mundo. Uno de los últimos descubrimientos en modificar nuestro concepto de la historia evolutiva del hombre se llevó a cabo en la sierra burgalesa de Atapuerca, donde se han encontrado restos de 800.000 a 1.200.000 de años de antigüedad pertenecientes a una especie que fue bautizada como Homo antecessor y que, según el equipo descubridor, sería un homínido del que derivarion Homo sapiens -nuestra especie- y Homo neanderthalensis -nuestra especie "hermana", ya extinta-.

Pero comencemos por el principio: ¿que es un homínido?. Según la filogenia más reciente quie incorpora los últimos aportes de la paleogenética,  Orangutanes, Gorilas, Chimpances y Humanos pertenecen a una misma familia, Hominidae. Dentro de ella se distinguen dos subfamilias: Ponginae (con los Orangutanes) y Homininae (con Gorilas, Chimpancés y Humanos). Homininae se divide a su vez en dos tribus: Gorilini (para los Gorilas) y Hominini para Chimpancés (género Pan) y Humanos (género Homo). Por lo tanto, zoológicamente, los seres humanos estamos tan cercanos a los chimpancés como un elefante africano (Loxodonta africana) lo está a un elefante asiático (Elephas maximus), y mucho más cercanos a gorilas y orangutanes que cualquiera de estos dos elefantes a un mastodonte (Mamutidae).

Por lo tanto, al hablar de homínidos fósiles, nos podemos estar referiendo a ancestros de Orangutanes (que se separaron de la rama principal hace 14 millones de años), de gorilas (separados hace 7 m.a.), de chimpances (separados de la línea humana entre 7 y 5 m.a.), de humanos bípedos (Homo, Australopithecus, Parantropus, etc.) o de todos ellos juntos.

Existe una buena variedad de fósiles de nuestra familia hace entre 23 y 7 millones de años, como Proconsul, Morotopithecus, Afropithecus, Kenyapithecus, Pieralopithecus, Sivapithecus, Lufengpithecus, Ouranopithecus, Ankarapithecus y Gigantopithecus, entre otros, algunos de los cuales representan formas transicionales que dieron lugar las especies actuales, como Sivapithecus para Orangutanes y Ouranopithecus, Ramapithecus o el reciente Sahelanthropus tchadensis para Gorilas, Chimpancés y Humanos, hace entre 9 y 5 millones de años.

La línea humana

Tras diferenciarse el tronco de Orangutanes, gorilas y finalmente Chimpancés, la línea evolutiva humana comienza el proceso que ha venido a denominarse «hominización», consistente básicamente en perfeccionar el bipedalismo, el uso de herramientas y el extrordinario desarrollo de las capacidades intelectuales.

Aquí también existen una buena representación de especies fósiles que documentan un árbol filogenético completo. Existen varias interpretaciones del mismo, y se realizan modificaciones muy frecuentemente, según van apareciendo nuevos hallazgos.

Generalmente se considera que el tronco de los homínidos bípedos que llevarían hasta el hombre moderno partió de alguna forma de Australopitecino, del que derivaron todos los Australopitecus y primeros Homos, posiblemente alguna forma del grupo de los Ardipithecus.

Desde hace 4 millones de años hasta aproximadamente 1,5 m.a., se desarrollan en África al menos 5 especies de Australopithecus (algunas de ellas separadas por ciertos autores en géneros aparte: Kenyantrophus y Parantrophus). Entre ellos, el famoso esqueleto «Lucy», encontrado en Hadar (Etiopía) en 1974, y que pertenece a la especie Australopithecus afarensis.

No obstante, y contrariamente a lo que mucha gente piensa, no todas estas especies pertenecen a la línea directa del hombre, sino que son distintas ramificaciones de los homínidos en los últimos 3 millones de años. ¿Por fin humanos?

Tradicionalmente se han clasificado dentro del género Homo a las especies de homínidos capaces de usar herramientas, aunque últimamente algunas evidencias apuntan a que ciertos Australopithecus ya llegaron a emplear útiles rudimentarios. En cualquier caso, hace 2,5 millones de años evolucionaron, de formas derivadas de los Australopithecus, las primeras especies de Homo: Homo habilis y Homo rudolfensis (que algunos autores consideran como una única especie). Según una de las propuestas más aceptadas actualmente, les sucedió Homo ergaster (2,0 -1,0 millones de años y, posiblemente, el primero en salir de Áfrca) a partir del cual se derivaron Homo erecutus (1,8 - 0,3 millones de años), y Homo antecessor (1,2 - 0,8 millones de años), que daría lugar a Homo neanderthalensis (extinto hace 29.000 años) y Homo sapiens, única especie que sobrevive en la actualidad. Otras hipótesis, como el modelo multirregional, postulan que Homo sapiens es el resultado de la hibridación de las formas derivadas de Homo ergaster en distintas partes del mundo, aunque actualmente es poco considerada.

El árbol incompleto

Aún nos queda mucho por descubrir sobre la evolución humana. Prácticamente nadie duda que irán apareciendo más fósiles de homínidos que progresivamente permitirán ir ajustando nuestro árbol filogenético. Ahora bien, tras los descubrimientos de cientos o miles de fósiles como los que hemos ido señalando, con características transicionales desde los primates primitivos, hoy día deberíamos hablar de un ramificado árbol, al que le quedan bastantes ramas por descubrir, más que de un único «eslabón pérdido».

...Gordon Smith is a sleaze-bag and it's time for him to go.

For those in other states let me give you some background. Gordon Smith is the junior republican senator from Oregon. He is a devout mormon from the conservative, ugly, eastern part of the state. He also inheirited the family business, Smith Frozen Foods. If you ever eat frozen vegetables it's pretty likely they were packaged at his plant. He is extremely wealthy. While he publicly came out against the Iraq war ahead of a lot of other republicans, he only did so after it was apparent that this would be a very popular move amongst his predominately anti-war constituents in Oregon.

Other than that the Senator has voted in line with the republicans on nearly everything. NARAL gives him a 15% rating and he has expressed support for a federal marriage amendment to the constitution banning gay marriage. In spite of his overall poor credentials on queer issues he airs this ad in the Portland area now that he is faced with a tough reelection campaign in a blue state:

I don't know about you, but I am just not impressed. With no disrespect for Shepard or his family, it's kind of gay-rights 101 and very 10 years a go. I think we can all agree that murdering people because of their sexuality, race, gender identity is bad. Basically he's saying we shouldn't be beaten to death, but we also shouldn't be allowed to get married - and other protections against discrimination in the employment or housing amount to pandering towards "special interests".

Smith's Democratic opponent Jeff Merkley has a much better record. As speaker of the Oregon House he was instrumental in passing domestic partneships and another bill addressing discrimination in employment and housing during the 2007 Legislative Session. This race is tight, and Smith has spent an ass-load of money on ads as bad as this or worse, so it is important to get registered now. If you live in Oregon the deadline is Tuesday October 14. The more we can unseat people like Smith and replace them with people like Merkley, the better our odds of getting some real changes on the federal level.

I first saw the film "All Over Me" when I was 15, and though I wouldn't say it is my favorite movie of all time, it is most definitely the one that has had the greatest impact on me as a person.

For those of you that haven't seen it ( and I know all you radical fags and fagettes have), All Over Me tells the story of Claude, a butch-ish 15 year old girl struggling with her queer identity, and her straight best friend Ellen, who is falling into a black hole of drugs and abusive relationships. Claude, of course, is secretly in love with Ellen, and the two navigate this complicated relationship against the backdrop of Hell's Kitchen, a very bad neighborhood in NYC. There world and relationship is changed forever when they become involved in the murder of a local queer musician.

There is a lot of drama and crying and awkwardness of course, but that is not really what mattered to me when I was fifteen. Luckily, I had great parents and was very well adjusted and okay with my queerness. Very little drama involved. So, it wasn't the queer storyline  that really changed something inside of me.

What changed me forever was the musical exposure that I was given by All Over Me. It was how I discovered Helium, Sleater-Kinney, Geraldine Fibbers, Babes in Toyland, The Amps, and The Murmurs. Finding these bands started me thinking about feminism, politics, queer theory and modern art. They gave me the nudge I needed to discover other bands like Team Dresch and Bratmobile. Basically, the soundtrack to this movie helped me to become a pretty fucking awesome, smart, and confident queer teen. I know that who I am today is the result of a clear trajectory started my queer/feminist/altenative rock music of the mid-nineties.

Here is and idea I had today but will most likely by apethetic about following through on:

ALL OVER ME soundtrack tribute/cover night!

Four bands each cover 3-4 songs off the soundtrack and all the proceeds go to SMYRC (a portland queer youth non-profit). Of course my band Swallows would play. Local lesbo heartthrobs and 90's rock lover's Sick Sick Sister would certainly be invited as well... who else?

I feel like a ton of other queer people my age had a similiar experience with this film, so the night would be bound to succeed, especially here in Portland.

Then we decided to finish up talking about Pelagianism.  We discussed an article that is found on the Library of Theology Website, titled, "Defense of the Freedom of the Will".  It is a bunch of quotes by Pelagius on the subject of FreeWill.  We talk about certain straw man arguments against Pelagius, read a selection of his quotes and discuss them.

We then moved on to talk about the book of the month.  The book I chose was Troubling Questions for Calvinists (And all the rest of us..) by F. Lagard Smith.  I am only about a third of the way through the book, but what I have read so far has been great.  I think this book is one that thoroughly refutes the unBiblical acronym of T.U.L.I.P.  I give a general overview of the book and then we look at some things he says in the book.  I recommend that every chrisitian read this book!  I think that everyone who professes to be a Calvinist or is even thinking about being a Calvinist should be required to read this book!

Finally, we played some audio of a secular radio show that I was recently on.  John, Jesse and I were preaching in Rehoboth Beach, DE this past summer and had some problems with the cops.  Rehoboth is a thoroughly homosexual area, so that probably had something to do with it.  We put our encounter with the cops up on YouTube and a local radio station found out about it.  The host of a morning radio show basically played the audio from the cop encounter on his radio show.  He was very much in favor of us, as was his audience.  So, he invited the Chief of Police on and then had me on his radio show right after the Chief of Police.  We played the audio of the Chief of Police being on the radio, as well as the audio of me being on the radio.  We discussed the audios a little, but they pretty much spoke for themselves.  The radio show that I was on is called Talk of Delmarva and it is hosted by Dan Gaffney.  For those of you who don't know, Delmarva is simply short for Delaware, Maryland and Virginia and is referring to the peninsula on the East Coast that all three states are a part of.  Click below if you would like to listen to the parts of that radio show that were talking about us:
