An exorcist by trade, Morgan is one of the few humans with an aura stronger than her possessor, even though her demon can tease her body senseless. She's also a woman who has just discovered a shocking truth: everything she once believed about her past and her identity, may have been a lie...And when the one man who's ever loved her is dragged into the storm, Morgan can't afford to wait for the next terrifying surprise. A rogue, sociopathic demon has entered her life with a bang. His name is The Hunter. And since she is the prey, Morgan has only one choice: to bring The Hunter down - no matter what heartbreaking truths she uncovers on the way...

Aidan Flynn, a private investigator and eldest of the Flynn brothers, scoffs at the haunted-house rumours - especially since Kendall Montgomery, a tarot card reader who has been living in the mansion, is the one to tell him the tale of a woman in white. But when he finds a human bone on the grounds and another by the river, Aidan delves into the dark history of the Flynn plantation. Forced together to uncover the truth, Aidan and Kendall realise that a serial killer whose victims seem to vanish into thin air has long been at work...and that their own fates are about to be sealed forever unless they believe in the unbelievable.

Deirdre finds herself infatuated with a mysterious boy who enters her ordinary suburban life, seemingly out of thin air. Trouble is, the enigmatic and gorgeous Luke turns out to be a gallowglass - a soulless faerie assassin. An equally hunky - and equally dangerous - dark faerie soldier named Aodhan is also stalking Deirdre. Sworn enemies, Luke and Aodhan each have a deadly assignment from the Faerie Queen. Namely, kill Deirdre before her music captures the attention of the Fae and threatens the Queen's sovereignty. Caught in the crossfire with Deirdre is James, her wisecracking but loyal best friend. Deirdre had been wishing her life weren't so dull, but getting trapped in the middle of a centuries-old faerie war isn't exactly what she had in mind...

Robyn Peltier moved to Los Angeles after her young husband's sudden death, trying to put some distance between herself and her memories. Though she's still grieving, the challenges of her new life as the PR consultant to Portia Kane - the world's most famous celebutante wannabe - can sometimes be amusing, even distracting. But when her client is gunned down in the back room of a nightclub, Robyn is suddenly on the run as the prime suspect in the murder. And as more bodies pile up around her, it seems like only Hope Adams, Robyn's best friend, and Hope's somewhat spooky boyfriend Karl are on Robyn's side. Hope Adams follows the kinds of stories whose headlines scream from supermarket checkout lines. But the difference is that Hope's stories are even weirder - and they're all true. Though determined to help Robyn, Hope knows it's only a matter of time before her friend is caught. But it's not the police Hope is worried about. For Robyn has gotten herself in the middle of a turf war between two powerful Otherworld cabals who'll spill any amount of blood - human and inhuman - to protect what they consider theirs for all eternity. And the only way Hope can keep her friend alive is by letting her enter a world she's safer knowing nothing about.

Lainey Livingston has just been made a member of the Elite Hands of Justice, the world's premiere cadre of superheroes. Her work with the Red Knights and the Power Squad was impressive; all her senses are extraordinary, and her great strength and ability to fly are equally remarkable. But no one gets a free pass to active duty, and Lainey's next test is going to be her hardest. She's to train with the Reincarnist. Robert Elliot, the Reincarnist. A magician who has lived multiple lifetimes, he's the smartest man in the world - and Lainey’s last obstacle. He was personally responsible for seeing Pushstar wash out. But his eyes are the softest, kindest that Lainey has ever seen, and he's just the sort to knock her for a loop. Lesson #1: Romantic entanglements among crime fighters are super exploitable, and falling in love with a man who "can't die" is like waving a red flag at a bull. Especially when the most fiendish plot ever is about to break over Megolopolis like a wave of fire.

As chief sorcerer of Felport, Marla Mason thought she'd faced every kind of evil the magical world had to offer. But she's never faced a killer like this. He's dark, glib, handsome as the devil - and exactly who he says he is. Death - in the flesh. He's arrived in Felport with a posse composed of a half-insane necromancer and the reanimated corpse of John Wilkes Booth, and he isn't leaving until he gets what he came for. Only Marla is crazy enough to tell Death to go back to Hell. With the Founders' Ball just around the bend, drawing together the brightest, meanest, and most dangerous of Felport's magical elite, the last thing Marla needs is all-out war with the King of the Underworld, but that's exactly what she's got. As the battle lines are drawn, she can count on her hedonistic, body-hopping partner Rondeau...but how many of her old allies will stand by her side when facing the ultimate adversary? To save her city, Marla will have to find a way to cheat Death...literally.

4 giugno 1968.

Private investigator Quinn O'Casey thinks Lara Trudeau's overdose is a simple case of death by misadventure - until he goes undercover at the Moonlight Sonata dance studio and discovers that everyone who knew the accomplished dancer had good reason to want her dead.

Shannon Mackay is equally suspicious of Lara's death - and equally concerned as the deadly events at the studio start to multiply. But she's asked one too many questions and now fears she's being followed. Worse, someone may be trying to kill her.

Someone does have decidedly fatal plans for Shannon. And as a drama of broken hearts, shattered dreams and tangled motives unfolds, only Quinn can stop the killing.

18-Aug-08 to 20-Aug-08

Review: Not Graham's best, but a good book nonetheless.

Lara Trudeau, one of the top ballroom dancers, dances her last dance, a spectacular performance, only to wind up dead on the dance floor. Cause: cardiac arrest due to a mix of prescription drugs and alcohol. Most believe it to be an accident, but Shannon doesn't. Sure, Lara was known to take a pill or two right before a dance to calm her nerves, but she never mixed with alcohol. To Shannon, it doesn't add up, but everyone else is convinced... all except for Doug O'Casey.

Doug had been sleeping with Lara and doesn't believe that Lara would have done that to herself either. Being a cop, and everyone at Moonlight Sonata dance studio knows that, he asks his brother, Quinn, to investigate. Quinn, a P.I., doesn't really want the job - he's supposed to be on vacation, sees the distress in Doug and reluctantly agrees.

Quinn begins asking questions, seeming innocent, but Shannon is suspicious of him, just as he is suspicious of her. Shannon was previously Ben's dance partner, but after a broken ankle, Ben had moved on to Lara, eventually marrying her, then divorcing. If anyone would be a suspect of murder, it would be Shannon. But Quinn spends more time with Shannon, becoming convinced it isn't her, and getting closer to her all the time. He's falling for her, just as she is for him, and neither are really liking the idea.

I would have never guessed who it was. There were too many possibilities, and at one point, it didn't make sense. You do get the point at the end, but it still leaves a bad taste. It was like the book was hastily written without any real thought. Surprising just the same.

Enough details of ballroom dancing so that you get the idea of what's going on. If you watch Dancing with the Stars, you'll catch on really quick. I do think, however, that the ballroom dancing angle was played just a little bit overboard.

Shannon and Quinn start off hot and heavy and remain that way. Other than the sparks between them, I didn't feel much spark in the rest of the novel, which would be disappointing for me. I've always given Graham's novels at least a 4-star rating if not a 5 - this one doesn't deserve that much from me. But I won't give up on her.

James Rollins, Clive Custler,Eckert Tolle, Oates, King, Kellerman and more. So, I decided to pass my book along with some notes buried inside the covers. A truly international book club of sorts. No time table. No weekly schedule. As you receive one of my "TRAVELING BOOK"s add your comments, fill us in on your life and add a book to the library. Let us know what it is, and where it has been. Tell us about yourself and share your thoughts on the book. DEADLY NIGHT by Heather Graham. I picked this book up as a pre-release proof copy at the BookExpo in LA in May. Heather signed it for me. I enjoyed the book more than I expected. Not knowing the characters from the previous "Flynn Brothers" books, I was cautiously opptomistic that I wouldn't get caught trying to catch up. NO WORRIES. Graham easily blends the back history as the story unfolds with classic flashbacks and cliffhangers. The references to Katrina add a believable touch to the plot development and local color. Her descriptons of the French Quarter give the reader the heart-thumping moments experienced by the heroine as she escapes almost certain danger. The story provides some interesting twists and leaves the reader to allow for flights of spiritual believability where adrenaline might be more realistic. Those of us who enjoy a good Tarot reading will appreciate the moment.I passed this book alomg to my new found friend Myra from Israel/Canada. From After Ellen:

From After Ellen:

"I'm not a lesbian, but I play one on TV."

This is a phrase more likely to be used these days, as casting for lesbian roles in TV and film appears to be much easier today than it was even a few years ago. The increasing success of movies and TV shows with lesbian characters has diminished the stigma of playing a lesbian character to such a degree that directors who once couldn't convince well-known actresses to even look at lesbian roles are now turning them away in droves.

Besides the recent sapphic roles played by Salma Hayek (Frida), Charlize Theron (Monster), Hilary Swank (Boys Don't Cry), Gina Gershon and Lori Petty (Prey for Rock 'n Roll), Frances McDormand and Kate Beckinsale (Laurel Canyon), and Meryl Streep and Allison Janney (The Hours), we will soon see lesbian or bisexual women in upcoming movies played by Heather Graham and Saffron Burrows (Gray Matters), Monica Belluci and Ling Bai (She Hate Me), and Kelly Preston and Famke Janssen (Eulogy)--while everyone from Brittany Murphy to Renee Zellweger to Pink vies to star in the upcoming Janis Joplin biopic.

In the last year on television, well-known actresses like Jennifer Beals, Rosanna Arquette, Lolita Davidovitch, and Kelly Lynch have all played lesbians on The L Word, and next season is likely to see even more familiar faces guest-starring on the series.

But it wasn't always this easy--as recently as 1998, directors looking to cast lesbian or bisexual roles still frequently encountered resistance from actresses to playing gay, as writer-director Maria Maggenti (Without a Trace, The Incredibly True Adventures of Two Girls in Love) discovered when she was first casting her bisexual-triangle film Us, Them and Me five years ago.

"There were several actresses trying out for the film," Maggenti said in a May 2004 interview, "who were concerned about kissing another woman."

Director Jamie Babbit ran up against a similar problem when casting the lead role in But I'm a Cheerleader (a role which eventually went to Natasha Lyonne). "My first choice rejected me on the basis of being too Christian," Babbit admits in a recent interview with AfterEllen.com. "Although she cried when she told me she couldn’t do it, and she was clearly very torn, she just couldn’t have her family see her face on this poster."

The tide seems to be turning, however. When Maggenti set out to recast Us, Them and Me this year, concerns about kissing another woman "didn't even come up once." First-time director Angela Robinson told AfterEllen.com in an interview last July that when she was casting for her feature film D.E.B.S., she was "barraged with actresses who wanted to be in the movie. The actresses I met with were generally not that worried about playing a gay character."

She eventually cast two up-and-coming actresses--Jordana Brewster (The Fast and the Furious) and Sara Foster (The Big Bounce)--in the lesbian roles, something Robinson doesn't believe would have happened five years ago.

Olga Sosnovska, who played the groundbreaking bisexual character Lena on All My Children, told AfterEllen.com in an October 2003 interview that she wasn't fazed upon receiving the information that her character would turn out to be bisexual. Although she "didn't think it would be as controversial as it turned out to be," Sosnovska insists "it wouldn't have made any difference."

Her very public role as one-half of daytime's first lesbian couple clearly didn't hurt her career: she departed All My Children recently for a prominent role on a hit British spy series. (continue reading)
