Last night, in the noisy confines of Logan Airport (BOS) trying to make a phone call to notify fans, friends, and family of the completion of yet another successful, if exhausting, trip, I went to put on my Jawbone v 1.0 and the earloop snapped in half. Wait, aren't these made out of metal?! What gives?

I asked the customer service folks at Aliph more or less the same question, via email, today:

I received my Jawbone as a gift last Christmas and have enjoyed using it since. It's an invaluable tool for me, as a frequent business traveler, however, yesterday, when removing my Jawbone from its pocket in my travel bag to make a call in a noisy airport, I was dismayed when the Right Long earloopI use snapped off as I was putting the device on, leaving the broken end lodged in my Jawbone with a jagged edge protruding from the insertion slot. I was surprised that this had happened, given the earloops are made of (or at least appear to me made of) metal and that this occurred during normal use.

It seems that the website notes the replacement units are out of stock, so I am at a loss of what to do, unable to make use of my headset without the earloop (it tends to fall out without the hook, regardless of earpiece) and unsure when replacements will be available.

Any information you can share on the best route to procure a replacement would be much appreciated.

Within 20 minutes, had the following response:

That, my friends in retail, is how it is done. No hassle, a simple explanation while noting that, in fact, these items are for sale on the site (presumably should I run into this problem again) and the right thing to do given that the item is listed as "out of stock" with no definite availability date. Kudos, Aliph, you'll have my business again, for sure.

Awesome. Not that I'm a big videogamer, but, without wanting to sound like my Grandmother, it's absolutely AMAZING what the kids are doing these days ;-)

I mean, doesn't this just seem like the ultimate form technology pertaining to the evergrowing lazyness of the human race? (Listen, it's not that I'm not impressed, holy hell, it's amazing, BUT one has to look at it another way too).

Imagine, you don't even need to move your fingers, just think it and it does it. Though the technology is not QUITE there yet, if you look up some vids on YouTube you'll see the people are actually making the movements, and the thing is not as reactive as it should be. But they're working on it, don't worry, in a few years time all you gaming junkies can just sit there looking at the screen and thinking about what you want done.

This probably opens a whole new topic about how the human mind has dumbed down...

Die erste Tour in beginnender Dämmerung, die zweite dann mit dem Headset in der Dunkelheit, einfach schön, still ruhig und friedlich. Ausnahmsweise mal keine Rentiere am Weg un der eine Kilometer mehr war fuer alle vier gar nicht weiter bemerkenswert. Aber das erste Paar Bremsklötze am MTB ist schon runter, muss morgen früh ausgewechselt werden. Und man wundert sich immer wieder wie schlagartig die Temperatur fällt sobald die Sonne ganz weg ist... . Der Winter kommt näher, ich freue mich drauf.

Remember that headset that Sony announced would be coming with SOCOM Confrontation. Of course you dont. Anyway, Sony has announced that said headest would be launching at $49.99, but for an extra $10 you can get the headset with a copy of SOCOM. Seems like a good deal. The majortiy of bluetooth headsets are supported by the PS3 but it seems many of them don't offer the best sound quality. A new Firmware update will apparently make the headset have the best sound quality available when playing games. The 'set will be using:

"advanced wireless technologies and the Headset's dual-microphone design to enable clear and wide-band wireless voice communication with the PS3 system."

It sounds good and Sony have come out and said that future titles will support this new high quality stuff, which is always a good sign. It has also been said that games could have voice support that would mimic your speech on screen, another very cool feature. A feature called 'Proximity chat' will also offer voice playback in surround sound too.

It seems like this headset has a lot of really cool features and that Sony will be supporting it quite well but I personally won't be shelling out £30 for a new headset that's for sure.

The new official headset for the Playstation 3 will be available starting October and will be offered in the retail version of SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation (will cost $59.99) and as a stand alone (will be available later this year for the price of $49.99).

The headset will work with any cell phone that supports Bluetooth.
It features a Mute button and a Charging Cradle.
The headset will feature “High-Quality (HQ) mode” with PS3. In this mode, the headset will take advantage of advanced voice technologies and noise cancellation techniques to provide clear and wideband voice input to the PS3.
The headset will support Voice commands and Voice Animation in HQ mode. Voice Command was originally used in SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs for PS2 to administer the AI-controlled teammates using the WHO, WHAT, and WHERE format (example: Bravo, Attack, Nav Point Zulu). Voice Animation refers to the in-game character mimicking you during voice chat. With HQ mode, these features can be enabled on a much larger vocabulary in select PS3 games.

Creo que la mayoria de los que jugamos COD4 tenemos un auricular, el cual es muy util en este y otros juegos con multiplayer, algunos tal vez no lo han podido comprar, ya sea por falta de dinero, por flojera o porque no les gustan los accesorios, que no son oficiales de nuestra amada PS3, esta noticia les hara ir a comprarse su headset.

Se ha dado a conocer el precio en Estados Unidos del headset oficial del PS3, el precio del aparatito solo, es de 50 dolares, pero si lo compran en un paquete junto con SOCOM:Comfrontation, tendrá un costo de solo 60 dolarito, la fecha de salida sera este otoño. En japón saldrá a la venta el 30 de octubre. A mi me parece un muy buen precio, yo compre el mio a 50 dolares y no es el oficial.

Así que ya saben quien no lo tiene a comprarlo y nos hablamos en COD4. Y se me olvidaba, se supone que la calidad sera mejor que los headset que salio en Warhawk.

Finally some official details on Sony's Playstation 3 headset have been released! The Playstation Bluetooth headset was first introduced as a bundled headset with Socom Confrontation and caught everyone's attention because of its infamous mute button. Because the headset was just such a great headset for gaming Sony decided to make it its official Playstation bluetooth headset. This headset has been claimed earlier to have high quality noise cancelation because of its double mic system. The headset pairs automatically just by plugging it into the Playstation 3 with the supplied USB cable. The headset will work seamlessly with the Playstation 3 with an on-screen indicator showing the headset connection, battery charge level, speaker volume, and microphone mute status all at a push of a button. This is a great feature because with other headsets you could never see any of these stats on screen and makes it much easier to use. The headset comes with a cradle to charge the headset for up to 8 hours of voice chat when fully charged. This is great for gaming because some people will play over 4 hours at a time on curtain games and traditional bluetooth headsets normally have an average of 4 hours talk time. The official release date will be October 30th in Japan. Everyone who orders the Socom Confrontation Bundle that includes this headset would receive the headset 15 days earlier on October 14th. Sono stati appena rivelati i dettagli relativi alla versione europea di Socom: Confrontation:
il gioco arriverà sia sugli scaffali in versione Bluray, sia come contenuto scaricabile tramite il Playstation Store, il 17 Ottobre: tre giorni dopo la release americana.
L' acquisto sullo Store ci verrà a costare 39,00 euro, mentre per la versione Bluray potremo scegliere quella standard (sempre a 39,00€) e quella comprensiva di headset (alla cifra di 59,00€)

Sony ha oggi divulgato dettagli riguardanti la nuova periferica che comincerà a distribuire in Giappone a partire dal 30 Ottobre: si tratta di un Headset Wireless Bluetooth che, al prezzo di 46$, offrirà un'anatomia di 8 ore in attività e di oltre 300 ore in stand-by. L'headset funzionerà fino ad una distanza massima di 10 metri e sarà inoltre dotato di una basetta per la ricarica rapida. Di seguito vi riportiamo l'immagine della nuova periferica.

Angenehm kühl und heute hatte ich auch die richtigen Handschuhe für um die Null Grad an, allerdings ist es echt fummelig bis nervig damit Videos zu drehen, habe es trotzdem geschafft. Da es gestern ja den ganzen Tag über sonnig war sind die Wege fast schon wieder trocken, bin froh drum. Angenehm kühl heute morgen bei Null Grad und prompt die falschen Handschuhe ohne Finger angezogen, das ist dann besonders nett wenn man ständig bremsen muss und die Griffe aus Metall sind. Die Jungs machen sich soweit prima, Nemo macht wie immer aus puren Übermut ein paar Faxen, aber nichts Ernstes.

Rookie und Taiga waren völlig aus dem Häuschen, es sind wieder massenhaft Rentiere unterwegs. Ansonsten reine Routine.

Durch die Straßenbauarbeiten und den Regen. den es gab den ganzen Tag über Schauer ist derzeit alles eine einzige Schlammschlacht, der Boden ist selbst auf den Waldwegen bis zu 5 cm tief. Heute bin ich sogar einige Male mit dem MTB im Schlamm stecken geblieben, und das mit 2 Siberian Huskys vor dem Rad. Aber na ja, das ist jeden Herbst mehr oder weniger dasselbe.

MacBook Pro - Trouble Connecting External Microphone

I have such an itch to get into Pwnage.TV commentating, but I have been having mic troubles with my MacBook Pro. All this time I have been using my built-in, and it has really been picking up the sound of my fans, so I decided that it was time to buy myself a headset!

I was really excited to get my new Plantronics 365 in the mail; the sound is so crisp, and I had previously been using an 8 year old pair of Sony headphones that only had sound in one ear with my built-in mic! I am really glad that Kilat recommended me this model. Imagine trying to figure out where someone's footsteps are coming from in CS when you can only hear through one ear... it was pretty lame!

Somehow, though, the recording quality didn't seem to change, and luckily Moeb, another mbp owner, was able to tell me what the problem was. My hardware knowledge isn't the strongest, but what I understand is that my mic doesn't have sufficient output to connect to the audio port.

The solution to fixing the problem is either buying 1) a usb headset 2) a flippin' expensive headset with good output or 3) an iMic. Since my Plantronics have been serving me well I decided to buy an iMic from NCIX, which is a usb audio adapter. It was a bit pricy, but I am hoping that it will do the trick, and that I will soon get to help out with the TF2 Casting. Wish me good luck :)

Die ersten richtigen Nachtfahrten, schön kühl und die Hunde waren total aus dem Häuschen. Da ich ja jetzt 2 Tage nicht hier sein werden, heute eine Doppeltour mit größtmöglichen zeitlichen Abstand.

Cheyenne hat erheblich Probleme mit dem Pelz, diese ekeligen Fliegen, immer dasselbe Spiel wenn es so ein feuchtwarmer Sommer ist, sieht übel aus, aber es scheint sich schon wieder zu bessern und ansonsten fühlt Sie sich anscheint richtig wohl seit Sie wieder läuft, was für alle gilt, Sie blühen richtig auf.

Gestern zum ersten Mal mit der nun schon recht früh einsetzenden Dämmerung losgefahren und die zweite Tour dann im Dunkeln gemacht. Das Hantieren mit dem neuen Headset war etwas gewöhnungsbedürftig , da durch die Akkus ein höheres Gewicht und eine grössere Leuchtstärke bedingt sind.

Die Jungs waren im ersten Moment auch etwas irritiert, aber das hat sich schnell gegeben. Unangenehmer war das etliche Rentiere im Lichtkegel wie angenagelt standen, was 6 oder 7 Stops nötig machte. Dieses Jahr sind wirklich extrem viele hier unterwegs, ich muss ernsthaft überlegen mir ein Signalhorn ect. zu besorgen, ich habe nicht die geringste Lust später im Jahr im Nebel hinter einer Kurve in eine Herde reinzudonnern.

"Leicht" verunglücktes Selbstporträt, ist nicht so ohne sich selbst zu fotografieren, ich wollte eigentlich nur die Jacke drauf haben, eine solche Warnjacke mit zusätzlichen Reflexstreifen ist hier im Herbst nämlich absolut lebensnotwendig, zum einem wegen der wie wahnsinnig rasenden Autofahrer, viel mehr aber wegen der mörderischen Jäger die hier derzeit und erst recht mit Beginn der Elchjagd am ersten Septembermontag, ausschwärmen wie ein Haufen Fliegen auf der Suche nach Scheiße und auf alles schießen was sich bewegt...
