The Dark Knight proves one size fits all. The box office bohemoth is both a cinematic masterpie

The Dark Knight proves one size fits all. The box office bohemoth is both a cinematic masterpiece and marketing marvel. Yeah, I put Marvel in there on purpose. Heh heh. With legions of poster designs, websites, t-shirts, collectible action figures, rallies and yes, even baked goods with cellphone filled centers, The Dark Knight has managed to creep its way into every nook and cranny of the American psyche.

I've seen The Dark Knight three times, have five posters from the film hanging on my walls, and the soundtrack is playing on my computer as I write this post. I know, I've caught the TDK bug and it's not going away any time soon.

Here are the five things I find most stellar about The Dark Knight.

1. Movie Poster Designs

As an artist, this one shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. ;o) The Dark Knight movie poster designs are some of the best I have ever seen. We can thank the following companies for some of the poster designs created for the film.

BLT & Associates

Crew Creative Advertising

Here are some Dark Knight posters I feel are especially strong.

I purchased a version of this one from MovieGoods. I was not able to locate a version of this poster anywhere else that was new and in the size I wanted. Their selection of posters is outstanding and they simply have the best customer service anywhere! Don't worry, I'm not part of any affiliate program, they're just really great and I want to share. The poster I received was actually a little dark, so I asked if I could get a replacement. They not only sent me another poster, but let me keep the first poster I received. I couldn't believe it. That's above and beyond the call of customer service! So check out MovieGoods for the best poster design selections and service.

2. Acting Performance/Script

Without a doubt Heath Ledger poured every ounce of himself into The Joker and left audience's around the world thirsting for more.

I didn't want to blink for fear I'd miss something spectacular. An absolutely mesmerizing performance that is most inspiring! I loved Gary Oldman, Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman as always, but it was Heath who truly stole the show. Mourned by millions and marveled by all, Heath Ledger was an amazing human being on and off the screen. His performance has also inspired numerous imitations and spoofs. Check out YouTube for this really great rendition of The Joker.

The script for The Dark Knight is a gem that is as delightful to read as it is to watch come alive on the screen.

With a great script to begin with, Heath Ledger was able to immortalize more lines than anyone could have imagined. Lines like, "Why so serious" and "It's all part of the plan" have already become a part of our subconscious. Make sure to download a copy of this amazing piece of writing over at joblo.com and sit back and enjoy the read!

3. Soundtrack

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="480" caption="The Dark Knight Soundtrack by James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer"][/caption]

James Newton Howard and Hans Zimmer join forces again to create the score for The Dark Knight and as The Joker would say, "And you didn't disappoint." It's a thrill ride from the get go with its pulsing synth chords and uplifting, powerful and unforgettable themes. It gets right under your skin and doesn't let go. I highly recommend this soundtrack. Buyers beware, it is addictive. ;o)

Did you know that Sir Richard Branson is in James Bond: Casino Royale?? Well, Brad Pitt makes a very short cameo in Dead Man's Chest - watch it, and see if you can spot him...

Having recently watched this film for the 3rd time recently, I think out of the trilogy, this film is by far the best, especially in terms of the over-all quality of the production; from the music of Hans Zimmer, to the superb special effects of Industrial Light & Magic, and of course the acting, which is actually very good - since I suppose we would expect such a swash buckler to have terrible acting, but really the acting complements the story and premise of the story. Moreover - there is actually a very impressive line of good actors in this movie, and great performances - Johnny Depp, who I think is perfect as Jack Sparrow; Stellan Skarsgård as Bootstrap Bill; Tom Hollander as Cutler Beckett; and Bill Nighy as Davey Jones is just brilliant, considering that whilst shooting, Nighy didn't have no mask to hide behind, and so the facial expressions that we see in the final version (tentacles and all) is based upon his original performance. The character of Captain Sao Feng is wholly convincing, (played by Chow Yun-Fat) equivalently - Geoffrey Rush portrayal of Hector Barbossa is done with such conviction and is a pleasure to watch.

The production budget was $225 million, and world wide gross revenues of $1,066,179,725 (http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=piratesofthecaribbean2.htm), whereas the Production Budget for The Curse Of The Back Pearl was: $140 million and 500% gross worldwide revenue, At World's End Production Budget being: $300 million with 200% gross worldwide revenue, is it plain to see that the investment made by at these increments reflect the confidence in the success of the trilogy, and also is reflected in the over-all quality, as I have said, of the production.

What I find particularly interesting in Dead Man's Chest are the themes that are explored through-out the duration of the movie. It seems that the writers (Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio) derive a great deal of their style from proverbs, and there are strong allegories to various aspects of human and personal development and exploration, and explores many of the themes of individual freedom, the destructive force of globalisation over tradition and folk culture - indeed, at times, the script can almost appear to consist of true and meaningful wisdom. Combined with the superb visual effects, and performances, the movie appeals on many levels.

If I was make perhaps one observation and dare I say criticism - then it would be with the performances of Orlando Bloom as Will Turner and Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Swann - OH! Incidentally, Jonathan Pryce as Governor Weatherby Swann is also brilliant, especially the scene near the end, upon the Black Pearl's return from the chest of Davey Jones, where Weatherby Swann sits within a small fishing boat, having died and presumably floating upon an endless sea waiting for Davey Jones to fulfill his obligation of delivering him to the other-side; is it very poignant. As I was saying, I feel that Bloom and Knightley's performances are somewhat overly self-conscious, since I feel that as actors, they are somewhat aware of their own reactions and expressions, and that they perhaps attempt to hold-back in their portrayal of emotion or reaction. But, having said that Knightley is good at acting angrily, and Bloom is good at acting sadness and sorrow. Personally though, I did not get lost in my suspended disbelief by their performances. Which I find slightly disappointing, since it is the actions of these two characters that ultimately drive the plot forward, and it is by these two characters that the film concludes. Personally, I would have been more pleased to see a more involved and intense performance, but then again, given the movie is essentially a comedy/adventure/action swash buckler, I also accept that their performance fitted well into the over-all nature of the story.

Finally, the creativity of the production and cast is evident in the final release, and the film consists of some brilliant cinematography and highly stylised and visual scenes. A testament to Gore Verbinski vision.

Blood+ is one of my favorite shows in Animax. This one’s an amazing anime because of the superb special effects and the theme songs – they go so well with the plot’s atmosphere and the whole ideology (sort of) of the anime. I sometimes watch the encore run in Animax (since the semester’s not yet over I missed episodes in between) but I already watched the whole series when it was first premiered on Animax here in the Philippines. In 2006, the anime is ranked no. 41 in TV Asahi’s Top 100 Favorite Anime Series. Cool eh?

The Blood+ anime is directed by Junichi Fujisaku, and was based on the 2000 anime film entitled Blood: The Last Vampire. I still haven’t watch that anime film yet, I could have compared it to the anime series – I only manage to take a glimpse of the female character and I prejudging-ly say that I prefer the anime. Laughs.

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="221" caption="Saya Otonashii "][/caption]

I’ve also read that there are three manga series inspired from the same anime, but I haven’t got the chance to read them. Well, if you know any site that scanlates manga or a site that provides you free reading of the manga online – please please let me know. I want to compare and contrast the two, and see them as a whole. There are also two Japanese light novel adaptation of the same anime.

The 50-episode anime series was produced by Production IG (like Fullmetal Alchemist) and Aniplex (like Girl From Hell) and the anime is widely distributed through Sony Pictures Television International (SPTI). Here in the Philippines(South East Asia), it was aired through Animax, Sony’s anime satellite channel.

[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="230" caption="Haji - Saya's chevalier"][/caption]

One of the best points of the anime series – the theme songs. For one thing, the entire musical score and few of the soundtracks of the anime were made by the celebrated music geniuses Hans Zimmer and Mark Mancina. These includes Haji Plays J.S. Bach, you know, that scene when Haji plays that cello piece, and the hair-raising Diva’s voice that intensifies the mood of the anime. The anime’s opening and ending themes are all produced by Sony Music, and very excellent too, because all the anime theme songs are totally fit for the episodes. The opening theme songs are Aozora no Namida by Hitomi Takahashi, Season’s Call by Hyde (totally hot!), Colors of the Heart by UVERworld, and Raion by Jinn while the ending theme songs are the following – Kataritsugu Koto by Chitose Hajime, Cry No More by Nika Nakashima, This Love by Angela Aki (my personal favorite!) and Brand New Map by K (I find this guy so appealing!). I managed to download all these theme songs (thank God!) and I posted most of the lyrics here in my blog (some of them with corresponding translations).

The story centers about Saya Otonashii, a high school girl with amnesia and an anemic one. She is just your typical and ordinary girl, but she holds a very terrible past that she forgot, and little by little it all comes back to her. It gets worse when she is attacked by a chiropteran (monsters that feeds on human blood) wherein the same horrible creatures kills her stepfather. She finds that her blood is the only thing that defeats them, and she is ultimately the only one who can all these nonsense murders. This is where Saya decides that she is going to embark in a journey with her sword and her faithful chevalier, Haji.

Along the way, she rediscovers her real identity, and she faces lots of challenges. The anime also incorporates artistic elements such as flashbacks, allusions of war, and the science-morality dichotomy.

[caption id="" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Saya with Kai and Riku (productionig.com)"][/caption]

Helping Saya in her quest to fight these bloodsucking creatures are her stepbrothers Kai and Riku. Kai is very cute, I like his character – you know- the typical guy-next-door but a totally compassionate guy. You can’t deny she’s in love with Saya, but because of the battle he has to postpone his feelings and just prefers to stick behind her to support her emotionally. Riku is the younger stepbrother of both Kai and Saya – very carefree and emphatic young boy. But he is killed by Diva in the middle of the anime series. All three of them are adopted by their stepfather George Miyagusuku, who dies in the earlier part of the anime series because a chiropteran attacks him. George Miyagusuku is also part of the organization, the Red Shield, and David is her personal protector of the same organization. Her chevalier, Haji, always goes with her no matter where she goes. Saya’s chevaliers are Haji and Riku.

[caption id="" align="alignright" width="185" caption="Diva"][/caption]

The main antagonist is Diva, along with her chevaliers, Amschel, Solomon, Karl, James and Nathan. Among these chevaliers I like Solomon most. Aside from the fact that he is so hoooot, he is soft-spoken and she falls in love with Saya. Their human allies is the Cinq Fleches Group, headed by Van Argiano (that guy who always eat sweets in a hair-raising sexy way). The Schiff also works alongside with them, but then later, this group breaks away and sides with Saya’s group.

In the whole anime series, my favorite characters are Kai Miyagusuku, Saya Otonashii and Diva’s chevalier Solomon. There are the must-see characters that makes you go ga-ga. They are the reasons why before, I go home every weekends. I just could get enough of them, you see.

And here we go again !:D
♥ … And then I kissed him - Hans Zimmer
♥ Tennessee - Hans Zimmer

And here we go again !:D

♥ ... And then I kissed him - Hans Zimmer

♥ Tennessee - Hans Zimmer

♥ Brothers - Hans Zimmer

Well, this trio is part of the OST from Pearl Harbour. Although, I have a particular dislike for what the film represents and the fact that it portrayed the Americans as martyrs and Japanese as barbarians, which was not exactly right, but the movie did follow a particularly romantic thread. That was perhaps the main attraction, considering all the actors involved with the project did a very good job in portraying their respective characters. These 3 pieces are quite representative for the movie, as they were played in the key points. But that's, again, hardly relevant when you listen to them. They are very peaceful and can be used as sleep inducers ... which I have been doing for the last 4 years or so. Something about the melow tone and piano, does the trick almost everytime...

♥ Come away with me - Norah Jones

♥ Rosies Lullaby - Norah Jones

♥ Painter Song - Norah Jones

♥ I'll be your baby tonight - Norah Jones

I consider Norah Jones to be the most talented female singer of our time. Alongside Alfred Brendel [ pianist ] and Epik High [ hip-hop group ], they are the people that can do or say no wrong. So, these are my 4 favorite songs from Norah Jones. Starting from the top . The reason why I only posted 4 from her and no songs from Epik High or piano concertos from Brendel is because I'd have to post hundreds of songs. So I chose Norah Jones because she's probably the one out of the 3 that will appeal to more people. So enjoy !

♥ 09. The promise

♥ Piano concerto no 5 in F minor - J.S. Bach

These are 2 beautiful piano pieces that I could never get enough of them. I am fully aware that there are others more complex, but these were the first that got me to associate the piano with extreme comfort and peace. Enjoy these and maybe you'll be also tempted to search for more :) !

♥ God only knows - Jonatha Brooke

This is the best rendition I have ever heard of this classic song ! She has such a smooth voice and it all fits so perfectly ! You can visit her site here. Personally, this is the only song I have ever heard from her and I did not plan on getting more of her stuff. But if you like folk and rock, you should try and listen to more of her songs and the voice is absolutely stunning !

♥ Unchained melody - The righteous brothers

I can't even remember when I first heard the song, but I know it's been a very, very long time since. Like a couple of other songs, it would be a true pity if you don't listen to this at least once in your lifetime, because it is the best rendition of a track established as a master piece. Listen to it, it's bound to stay in your playlist for quite some while.

♥ Sometimes you can't make it on your own - U2

I don't really know if I love U2 as much as I profoundly respect their music and humanitarian work, but this song definitely hit a home run. The lyrics had a huge impact over me, especially when I heard that they were about Bono's father. I have a weird relationship [ and I use this term loosely ] with my dad and a great part of this song's lyrics is part of what I wish I could have heard from my own father a long time ago. Unfortunately some people get to have that privilegde, some don't . Because in the day of today, the right to a fasmily is a mere priviledge, as the other sets of rights that we are GIVEN as human beings. But then again, we are here to discuss songs, not politics, although I would like to write something on this subject in the next week or so if time allows.

Either way, the lyrics are touching and deeply personal, so enjoy the song !

♥ Uma voz nu vento - Adrianna Mezzadri

I absolutely adoooooooore her . She's my favourite brazilian singer hands down ! Every song that she takes one... it's so obvious that she loves her job and puts so much effort in her tracks. I think she's really famous in her home country, and she became more known after contribuiting to a lot of drama soundtracks together with Marcus Viana, who is an established composer [ not to mention extremely creative ]. Please listen to her, fantastic voice . However, this is not her best song. I think the best ine is " Marcas de ayer", but I somehow like this one more. If you want to become a fan, listen to both !

Marcas de ayer [ fan made video ] :

♥ Hey my friend - Tommy Heavenly6

This song is part of my favourite japanese movie, " Kamikaze Girls ", and as the title of both the movie and the song would suggest, it's a track about friendship with infusions of pop/rock and a unique voice of Tommy. This is a song that might not seem spectacular on paper, but it definitely delievers the feeling to you when you listen to it. I think it resembles freedom a bit... the melody of the song takes you in that direction. It's a nice escape, when you feel you are trapped in a tight place.

♥ Peach - Ai Otsuka

I put this song up for the pure value of making me sing along. And or the fact that it compares love to an upside down peach!! How pop culture, Andy Warhol, harajuku tokyo is that ?? And the video is pure sweet, electric fun ! Loves it !

Today we're venturing into the world of original film soundtracks, with a track from the soundtrack of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. It was composed by Hans Zimmer, and the cool part is that there are actually no electric guitars featured in it, even though it sounds like there are. The orchestra was fed back through a guitar amp to get the sound you hear! Listen to The Kraken!

When you want to become a composer, you need to develop your own kind of style and expression. Well, if you ask me, and listen to my music, you will realize that I'm still far away from my "own" style.

But, besides the (bad) copies I of other composer's themes and styles (some of this can be found on the "My compositions" page), I feel that my music is more and more becoming "my own", the more I write and the less I look to others for inspiration. And I don't know, but I think after now 8 months of composing music you can see the difference between my first and my current compositions.

However, there are still other composers that inspired me and whose music I love and admire. If people think of film music, most of them will think of Hans Zimmer. And he is really a talented composer, though I think he could have done better on some of his scores. It was, in fact, his music that aroused my interest in film music. First, through the Score of The Lion King, then through the whole Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which is like the pop music of film scores. ;-)

But what impresses me most about him is how he got in the business without having a classic education. That makes him really sympathic to me, because I basicly taught myself the guitar and the little technique necessary to play the notes I need on the midi-keyboard.

Now it are other composers, too, besides Hans Zimmer, who I admire. For example the beautiful, unmistakable style of John Williams, the "master" in the business. Or the darker tunes of Danny Elfman. The intelligent, almost classical music of Gabriel Yared. The epic Lord of the Rings scores by Howard Shore (some of the best music I ever heard). And whose style I almost like the most is Harry Gregson-Williams. His Kingdom of Heaven score is one of my favorites.

So finally, I hope with all that major and minor influences, I will still be able do develop something one could consider an individual style, and I think there's still hope for me. ;-)

Today I want to present you one of my unfinished pieces. It is called "Panda" and was created before the german cinema start of the film Kung Fu Panda. What I wanted to do is write my own piece of music just based on what I read about the plot and then compare it to the score that Hans Zimmer and John Powell would come up with. Well, after I couldn't get the composition finished before Kung Fu Panda was in cinemas in Germany and after I bought the (by the way awesome!) Score from Hans Zimmer and John Powell, I gave it up. Of course, there was no comparison between Zimmer's and Powell's brilliant and dynamic work and my little piece, but for me it was a nice exercise and I had a lot of fun while trying to fake asian instruments with my very european software instruments.

So what I want to do now is to give you a closer look on how I developed this piece (as far as I got). I want to show you the development in the order I did it, so if you want to listen to the whole composition first, you find it at the end of this post. Otherwise, just follow the development from the start.

First, I came up with a theme. And because I wanted it to sound asian, I used the pentatonic scale as an orientation. It should also sound vivid and funny, so I decided to make the whole thing not too slow and let two instruments perform like a little question-answer game.

So I gave the flute a melody: [audio http://myownscores.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/panda-flote-kurz.mp3]

And then let the violins answer: [audio http://myownscores.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/panda-violine-kurz.mp3]

Notice that I let the violins play portamento here to make the whole thing sound more like asian erhus. Without portamento it would have sounded like this: [audio http://myownscores.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/panda-violins-legato.mp3] You hear quite a lot the difference.

So after this first theme I created a second theme which directly follows the first one. This theme gives up the "question-answer" pattern; the solo flute and the violins playing parallel make the whole thing sound more fluent than the first theme. The composition so far played with the solo flute and the violins now sounds like this: [audio http://myownscores.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/panda-violine-and-flute-sol.mp3]

Of course there are instruments backing the two. I wanted them to sound kind of asian too, so I used a harpsicord, a concert harp, a Ben Boldt sitar, and a software guitar to pretend some "asian" sound. This is what their part sounds like. [audio http://myownscores.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/panda-zupfer.mp3]

Notice that I tried to use the pentatonic scale only as well as tried to blur the border between major and minor harmonies that would appear with the instruments playing together.

So now, after the two lead instruments have played, the theme, they repeat it again, now additionaly accompanied by double basses, french horns, and a percussion section as well as a few other instruments not mentioned here. The double basses give the piece a listenable accentuation, as well as the french horns, which, once again, stay in the pentatonic scale. This is what the basses and the horns sound like: [audio http://myownscores.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/panda-bass-und-horner.mp3]

And the percussion: [audio http://myownscores.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/panda-percussion.mp3]

Finally, I added a brigde to move to the whole composition to a different theme. The bridge itself contains some interesting stuff, such as a little hommage to the song Kung Fu Fighting, played by the brass section. By the way, the song was the first thing I thought of when I got the idea to make something "chinese". Just listen to an excerpt of the original song: [audio http://myownscores.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/kung-fu-fighting.mp3]

In my bridge, the brass section plays something similar, but not with that straight chords, but with a series of chords that raises the composition to a different key. Hear what I mean: [audio http://myownscores.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/panda-kung-fu-fighting-bras.mp3]

However, the piece, as it is now, ends, after this bridge. To this day I didn't finish it. But I keep it in my archive, and one day, when I am in the right mood, I will think of the perfect theme to bring this to an end. ;-)

So at the end, when all the components come together, my unfinished "Panda" sounds like this:

Enjoy listening!

[audio http://myownscores.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/panda2.mp3]

This piece of music was created mainly with my VSL Instruments.

The Dark Knight (El Caballero Oscuro)

Karelia

**WARNING: HEREIN CONTAINS DARK KNIGHT SPOILERS- SO, IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN IT YET, I WOULD RECOMMEND NOT READING THIS, AND INSTEAD GET YOURSELF TO A FUCKING THEATER**

Ever since we heard the rumors about the next movies villians, it's got me thinking a lot about what direction Christopher Nolan is going to take in the next installment.

I had been very reluctant to think about it, though, because to me TDK was absolutely phenomenal, and with a few exceptions, a perfect film. And as much faith as I have in Nolan as a director, what in the world could they do to top this one?

So, I was thinking one way to make it work, and to really counteract the explosiveness of the last film, would be to take the next in a different direction- do something smaller, grittier, more - dare I say - intimate. Maybe even something which feels more like a stage play than a movie – I don’t know, something more like Memento ((and maybe even with David Julyan scoring rather than Zimmer, good as it is)). They’ve set it up well to go in that direction – Batman is on the run, his relationship with Lucius is strained ((if not severed entirely)) so that he won’t be able to just go to him with gadget requests anymore, Rachel has been killed, he and Gordon are the only to know that Harvey had truly been corrupted ((so what will that do to his own morale- knowing that the Joker had truly won)) and so on. Somehow he’ll have to repair what the events of TDK have broken, but that’s going to require operating on a smaller scale for awhile, I expect. Robin could work within this thematic framework, but it seems unlikely they’d go that way. And I'd really be dissapointed to see that.. I have always loathed Robin, and have always thought their relationship seemed forced and uncomfortable - definitely not natural - but that’s a whole different topic. Presumably in a third movie we’d be able to return to Wayne Manor, which itself could thematically represent some sort of shift back to the status quo.

As far as villians go.. Catwoman definitely could fit into this new direction, and seems like the most probable choice considering what circumstances we will be dealing with in the third movie. She would fit in Nolan's universe perfectly. Also, since Rachel is dead, they are going to need a new chick in the film. However, I doubt Warner Brothers wants to revisit that character any time soon.. and I'm also deathly afraid of who they would cast.

And here's an idea- what about some kind of Gotham Central TV Series set in the Nolanverse between TDK and film #3, ala The Dark Knight Returns? If Batman is in hiding to some extent, then he can just be a vague, undefined presence to some extent who doesn't have to directly appear.

One thing I am definitely looking forward to is the redemption of Batman. There must be one hell of a battle for him to overcome.. I don't think he will ever truly be accepted by Gotham, but I have a feeling he will at least be a little bit more appreciated at the end of the film than at the beginning. I'm just excited to see how that plays out, and a big part of that rests on what villian they choose.

Maybe the biggest clue is in the final scene. It’s clear that Nolan and co. regard the Batman/Gordon relationship as the moral foundation of the particular stories they’re telling. That may seem obvious, but I think it’s very much underscored in the last scene of TDK, which is a clear counterpoint to the last scene of Batman Begins. For example –- Gordon telling Batman “thank you” and him replying, “You don’t have to thank me” seems to be very much a reference to the last line of Batman Begins, and in general both scenes function to wrap up the moral point of the preceding story and establish what the guiding principle will be for the next one. Given that, as much as escalation was the driving force of TDK, can we surmise that Gotham learning to accept the hero they need will be the plot engine of the third film?

Also, maybe they will explore the idea of Batman being Gotham’s true villain- in the sense that it is he that is holding Gotham back from change and metamorphosis.

Oh crap, and now I'm all excited and they haven't even started making it yet.. this is going to be a long couple of years.

Diary of my virus

Enter; my ego-centric, narcissistic notion of myself as a chest-cold, boiling, at the time in-bedded (yeah) patient. Not that I have dragged my lazy ass to a doctor so that he/she can diagnose me, probably ending up with hernia, scurvy or something else, completely off my symptoms chart. (seriously, the amateur intern that took care of me last time couldn't diagnose a simple migraine!) I don't think I am at all that ill, I just tend to exaggerate my condition, and the reality being a slight fever, a dripping nose, and the feeling of a cheese-grinder being shoved down my throat appears to me as the SARS virus or pancreditis. Nevertheless, it inspires me. At the moment I am, in bed as mentioned, watching Armageddon. Jesus, that's the farest from fact movie I've seen in many moon. The most annoing's gotta be the sound in space problem. For James's sake, IT'S VACUUM! I usually frown upon such minor slips or whatever kind of message they're trying to send, but this one really bugs me. Another thing is that Hans Zimmer's showing very clear signs of uninspired recycling. The main theme is close to similar to the themes in Pirates of the Caribbean, the Rock, etc.
Ahanyway, I downloaded the HL mod, Minerva, Metatatatis something jibberish just now, but I can't seem to open it. It might be my intense n00bility when it comes to computural matters, but MY GREAT Goodness, I'm playing with words today.

Get down with the sickness.
Løw, out.

Doch warum all der Schrecken, warum all dieses Leid? "Some men just want to watch the world burn", manchmal gibt es eben keine Rationalität hinter solchen Taten - oder sie will sich uns zumindest nicht so richtig erschließen. Clash of Civilizations nannte es Huntington.

"Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not a hero. He's a silent guardian. A watchful protector. A dark knight."

So, if The dark knight is not a superhero movie... why should its soundtrack be?

Danny Elfman's shadow is long and, although his famous theme for Tim Burton's Batman is already nineteen years old, it's still the referent, not only for everything related to the cape crusader, but also for every music related to superheroes: a memorable theme, a full powered orchestra, majestic choirs and every single note oozing epic. So did Elfman, and also Elliot Goldenthal and Shirley Walker. And many thought that Hans Zimmer and James Newton-Howard would do the same. But they didn't. Christopher Nolan's films about Batman are not gothic tales or kitsch adventures, but action thrillers (specially The Dark Knight). And in this new scenario the Elfman, Goldenthal or Walker style, even admiting their cap
