Esta nueva edición vuelve a estar especialmente orientada a los netbooks, y se trata de una distribución basada en Ubuntu 8.04.1 y que hace uso de GNOME. Además incluye Wine 1.0, Mozilla Prism y los ya mencionados Google Gadgets. Otros elementos destacables son la inclusión de Avant Window Navigator, el famoso clon del Dock de Mac OS X que tan buen rendimiento está dando en distros Linux desde hace varios meses.

A few months ago Mark Shuttleworth, founder of Ubuntu Linux, called upon open source developers to surpass Apple and their wonderful MacOS-X based user experience. Well, gOS release 3 could be close to doing just that. They have taken the best of Mac OS-X and Linux to a level that the user experience of using it is, well, exceptional!

I decided to give my three year old HP Livestrong laptop an OS upgrade. It has been running the default Windows XP Home edition all these years (with an occasional dose of Fedora every now and then). But this time round, I have downloaded the latest version of gOS live CD and used it to install it on the laptop. The installation went smoothly and I was able to install the OS in less than an hour. But as usual (as experienced with earlier Linux installs on this machine), it failed to recognize the broadcom wifi drivers. No sweat. I just plugged it into a LAN network and then used Synaptic Package Manager to find B43xx drivers. Which once installed, the card began working perfectly.

The Mac users will notice the familiar dashboard at the bottom of the page. This critical and important feature replaces the navigation through cumbersome menus (found on Linux and windows) to find programs and applications and also takes care of the clutter of have multiple shortcuts (or launchers) on the desktop. The dashboard bar is completely customizable and I have already changed a few applications around to suite my needs using the Wbar configuration utility (that came pre-installed).

gOS runs on top of Ubuntu 8.04, which is great as Ubuntu is already the best desktop experience available on Linux platform. Ubuntu claims to offer over 18,000 applications ready to install through its various repositories. I therefore, decided to install all the apps that I usually use on my regular Toshiba Ubuntu laptop and see if there are any glitches. The last time I tried doing that with gOS 2 (that I tested earlier this year), I encountered weird errors and some apps did not function too well. But this time around, the gOS team seems to have put in extra effort into integrating this OS with Ubuntu. The results are just spectacular as I seem to have no issues installing or running any app.

My HP livestrong has an AMD 1.8 GHz Turion processor with 512 MB of RAM and 160GB of Hard disk (which I upgraded from 80GB recently for multimedia space). For Windows XP, the RAM is a bit of a drag and sometimes even the processor feels slow to run programs. But gOS takes less than 200MB of memory and usually never exceeds 300MB (when browser, openoffice, and other apps are simultaneously open). Thus the need to upgrade the laptop with more memory is not required. It has also taken about 3GB hard disk space for installing the OS which is quite efficient use of hard disk. My old machine has received a new life and I am utterly enjoying using it without any speed, or memory issues that I get from Windows XP. I do recommend that older machines should just switch to gOS rather than spending that money upgrading them.

It also comes with two more innovations which I am beginning to enjoy. The first is Google Gadgets. By default, it lets users install and play with over 100,000 such gadgets that were so far available only to Windows users. I randomly installed over a dozen such gadgets to see if there were any integration issues. But so far, everything is working smoothly. Google Gadgets make it possible to personalize gOS so that it no longer looks threatening (to a novice computer user) as a Linux machine.

The second innovation is the app called Prism. This application lets web applications run off the desktop. In fact, I am writing this blog using Prism on Google Docs from my desktop. This is a great experience. Prism lets us use all our favorite web apps off our desktop. Apps like Youtube, Blogger, Gmail, Google Docs among others.

Even though gOS has no affiliation with Google, yet it seems to be eerily aligning itself to Google. All the Google apps (Google Docs, Youtube, Google Gadgets, Gmail, Blogger, News, Picasa etc) are natively supported and seem to point towards a complete Google experience.

Over all, I give it a complete thumbs up and I recommend that everyone who is interested to use something other than Microsoft should give it a try. Especially those who cannot afford to buy licenced windows.

Efter konserten åt vi en god middag på Statt men gick och vilade på våra rum ganska tidigt.

Dagens fåneri - Micke hittade en stor tavla av Jesus och tillbringade en lång stund med att ta bilder på sig själv så det skulle se ut som han träffat Jesus. Ack den WB. Han har förresten fått ett nytt smeknamn baserat på att han haft sönder sin trådlösa öronsnäcka till mobilen och alltid svarar med många fula ord när det ringer eftersom, numera, sladden trasslar i fickan.

به عنوان اولین گزینه می رم سراغ Mepis، لینوکس SimplyMepis ، علت اینکه این نسخه رو خیلی بیشتر از بقیه نسخه دوست دارم اینه که نسبت به بقیه واقعا کار می کنه. مهم نیست چقدر از لینوکس اطلاعات دارید، به محض اینکه مپیس رو اجرا می کنید همه چیز آسون و در دسترسه. حالا لابد می پرسید چرا اسم مپیس با این همه مزیت تا بحال به گوشتون نخورده. اصلی ترین علت گمونم این باشه که یک توسعه دهنده داره، وارن وودفورد، او به تنهایی نسخه ها رو تولید می کنه و از اونها پشتیبانی به عمل می آره. پس ممکنه گاهی به خاطر مشغله اش نتونه به مپیس برسه که اون موقع همه فراموشش می کنن. اما اخیرا تو سایتش خبر از توسعه مپیس 7 داده که بر اساس دبین داره تولید می شه. حتما می ارزه که برای یک بار هم که شده مپیس رو امتحان کنید

نسخه دیگری که تو لیستم دارم، گود او اس یا همون Good OS  هستش. این نسخه اوایل که منشتر شد خیلی محبوب شد، چون یک چیزی شبیه سیستم عامل گوگلی بود. از اونجایی که از این سیستم دسترسی به انواع امکانات گوگل فراهم شده بود. نسخه دومش کمی ناجور شد ولی از نسخه سوم باز محشر شد. این نسخه برای لب تاپ یک گزینه بسیار ایده آل می تونه باشه.

حالا! یکی از اساسی ترین مشکلات سیستم عامل های اوپن سورس پشتیبانی اونها از انواع کدک ها یا همون codecها می باشه. مینت یا Mint که از فرزندان اوبونتو هست این مشکل رو ظاهرا برطرف کرده. این نسخه هم مبتنی بر دبین برنامه نویسی شده و ارزش امتحانش رو داره. همچنین برنامه نویس اصلی مینت خودش یکی از کهنه کارای لینوکس هست که این تجربه او باعث شده خیلی چیزا از قلم نیافتاده باشند.

نسخه دیگه ای که می تونه در لیست مورد علاقه های خیلی از شما ها هم قرار بگیره gNewSense  نام داره. این نسخه طبق تعریف، خودش رو یک سیستم عامل و دور از جنجال های سیاسی برای همه افراد در همه جای جهان معرفی کرده، دارای محیط کاربری یا همون اینترفیس زیبا و ساده است و امکانات مختلفی رو برای امور دفتری یا همون Office ، چت، مدیریت ایمیل و مرورگر وب در اختیار کاربر قرار داده، همچنین برای توسعه دهندگان هم یک محیط GNU  با انواع کامپایلر و لوازم مورد نیاز تدارک دیده.

و نهایتا Mandriva لینوکس دیگری است که من خیلی دوستش دارم. از لحاظ کاربردی خیلی شبیه Mepis هست ولی محیط کاربری جالبش و همچنین طرفداران زیادی که داره و تناسب بالاش با انواع PC  از عمده مزیت هاش بشمار می ره. این نسخه رو هم حتما براتون پیشنهاد می کنم.

چیزی از قلم افتاده؟ اگه آره حتما خبرم کنید. من این نسخه ها رو خیلی دوست داشتم. با اینکه ممکنه نیازها و تعاریف شما متفاوت باشه ولی من قول می دم برای زمانی که وقف این لینوکس ها می کنید هرگز پشیمون نخواهید شد.

I previously weighed in on my opinion on cloud computing and very little has emerged to change my mind so far. I recently tried gOS v3 codename Gadgets which is the lightweight Linux distribution formally its own flavour based on the Enlightenment DR13 window manager and I am not that impressed. I found the integration between Google services (presented via barely concealed HTML widgets) and the operating system felt very amateurish. This coupled with the fact that version 3 is based on the more feature rich Gnome window manager, any assertion of this being a 'stripped down', light weight operating system for 'netbooks' sounds rather strained.

I do not doubt that one day, a certain percentage of desktops and laptops will be light weight (or thin client) systems accessing storage, applications and processing power from a 'mothership' in much the way cloud computing is evolving now. However it seems to make much more sense for a family or household or even a group of people to buy a central 'home server'. This will however be very different to Windows Home Server and will resemble more the old style dumb terminals where multiple clients connect to one central machine.

Well that is my prediction, we will talk in ten years! For now, long live monster power rigs! :) As a final note, it will be interesting to see where Apple fit into this in the coming years. iSlim? iWeb? iJot?

Este gOS ofrece un enfoque nuevo, está basado en aplicaciones Web, viniendo con una gran cantidad de accesos directos a servicios google, también trae consigo un generoso paquete de aplicaciones por defecto. 

La actualización del sistema e instalación de software es muy fácil, (algo que se valora de verdad cuando te inicias en esto de Linux), está gestionada por una aplicación.

Os dejo el enlace por si queréis probarlo o instalarlo, ya que es un livedvd, hay dos versiones "Gadgets" y "Space". http://www.thinkgos.com/software.php Yo he probado la versión "Space", como os digo, en el poco tiempo que lo he podido trastear y como primera impresión, uno de los mejores sistemas operativos basados en Linux tanto para los no iniciados como para los que gustan tenerlo todo un poco más fácil.

Blir nog en spännande dag idag. Jag kommer troligen vara en zombie, men sånt händer.

Apropå funderingar så har jag saknat någon att gosa med på sistone. Jag tror jag behöver mycket närhet från en annan människa. Även om jag har svårt att släppa in folk nära (på alla sätt) och inte gärna kramas (tycker det känns påfluget om jag inte känner personen mycket väl), så är jag nog en person som behöver extremt mycket närhet. Bara att sova tillsammans och trassla in benen lite grann, en arm mot en arm eller vakna och ligga sked och lukta bakom örat på halsen. Det är det jag saknar som singel. Annars är det hur smidigt som helst att vara ego och göra precis som jag vill utan att ens tänka på någon annan.

Kanske inte så konstigt heller att jag saknar någon att sova med. Har i princip aldrig sovit själv under några längre perioder i mitt liv. När jag var liten sov jag hos min morsa, på tok för länge. Sedan har jag sovit med dem jag varit tillsammans med ganska mycket, redan från mellanstadiet. Jag är nog en flockmänniska på det sättet i alla fall. Har tillfälligt gett upp tvåsamhet, men flersamhet kanske vore nåt. Åtminstone så länge det inte är några allt för seriösa relationer, eller snarare så länge relationerna är kravlösa. De kan säkert vara seriösa ändå.

Nä, nu frukost. Det skulle vara ljust när jag skulle gå upp, men det verkar dröja ett tag till. Skit.

Al solicitar explicaciones el ingeniero de la sala explicó que esa decisión de bloqueo era una determinación del gobierno departamental.

Bye bye Microsoft
Chrome carries shades of an OS in a browser's clothing and Google's latest encroachment on Redmond's turf must have a few Microsoft execs sweating.

The way Chrome will allow users to run and manage applications without an OS' intervention could mean the beginning of the end for the days of Vista's bloatware.

David Mitchell, VP for IT research at analysts Ovum, said: "What you are seeing is the language of the browser coming very close to that of the operating system, with services provided at the browser level rather than the OS level.

"If some of the OS functionality is within the browser then there will be a demand for a more anorexic OS running underneath.

"It is a big step towards telling people like Microsoft that they are not so popular after all."

Sure, there's been speculation about this sort of thing for quite some time now, some people even going as far as to suggest a Google-based OS (technically it already exists over at the Googleplex, and the Ubuntu-based gOS may as well be an official Google OS, with all the Google software included by default) but now it's actually happening.

Official beta release is set for 2-9-08, ie it should be available by the time you read this.

UPDATE:

A download site recently appeared at http://www.google.com/chrome, but there have been varied reports about it's functionality; while I can't access the download yet, you may still want to give it a go. It should be up and working for everybody, worldwide, now.

Jag har också bytt wii spelet, det var consolen som var trasig. Den nya funkar mycket bättre! Nu är gubben glad för han kan spela Golf i vardagsrummet! :D

Jag har också varit nere på staden och köpt proteindrinksflaskor. På hälsokost hittade jag dem och de kostade 45 kronor styck. Men nere på stan passade jag på att förse mig med sloggi trosor (ta 3 betala för 2) och så köpte jag en Jabushe soft day creame också.. Den tycker jag är skön..

När jag kom hem fick jag mms av gubben som var ute och plockade svamp.. Är det här en stolt fjällskivling stod det. Men ack nej, det var det ej.. I svampboken fanns det ingen liknande svamp heller, så jag vet ju inte vad det är för svamp. Vit/grå fjällig sak med rak fot.. Om jag får för mig att koppla ihop telefonen med datorn kanske jag lägger upp bilden.. Och då kanske någon ser om den är oätlig... :)

Nu lagar gubben mat till mig. Stekt gös med kantarellstuvning och grönsaker.. Mums!

Till sist ska jag tillägga att dotra min har skaffat sig tillökning i familjen... Tror nog att Ni kan gå in till henne Sofin snart för att se vad familjen utökats med.. Jag vet.. Men skvallrar inte!! :D Hon brukar vara duktig på att göra nya inlägg. Så det dröjer nog inte länge förrän Ni också får veta..

ROME, JUNE 28, 2007 (Zenit.org).- Here is a translation of a commentary by the Pontifical Household preacher, Capuchin Father Raniero Cantalamessa, on the readings from this Sunday's liturgy.

"Let the Dead Bury the Dead"
13th Sunday in Ordinary Time
1 Kings 19:16b,19-21; Galatians 4:31-5:13-18; Luke 9:51-62

Benedict XVI's book "Jesus of Nazareth" appeared in April. I thought that I would take account of the Pope's reflections in my commentary on some of the next Sunday Gospels.

First of all, I'd like to remark on the content and purpose of the book. It treats of Jesus in the period from his baptism in the Jordan to the moment of his transfiguration, that is, from the beginning of his public ministry almost to its epilogue.

The Pope says that if God gives him sufficient strength and time to write it, a second volume will deal with the accounts of Jesus' death and resurrection along with the infancy narratives. These were not treated in the first volume.

The book presupposes historical-critical exegesis and uses its findings, but desires to go beyond this method, aiming at a properly theological interpretation, that is, one that is global, not narrow, and that takes seriously the witness of the Gospels and Scriptures as books inspired by God.

The purpose of the book is to show that the figure of Jesus that is arrived at in this way is "much more logical and, from the historical point of view, also more understandable than the reconstructions that we have seen in the last decades. I hold," the Pope adds, "that precisely this Jesus -- that of the Gospels -- is a historically sensible and convincing figure."

It is quite significant that the Pope's choice to attend to the Jesus of the Gospels finds a confirmation in the more recent and authoritative orientation of the same historical-critical approach, in, for example, the Scottish exegete James Dunn's monumental work "Christianity in the Making."

According to Dunn, "the synoptic Gospels bear testimony to a pattern and technique of oral transmission which has ensured a greater stability and continuity in the Jesus tradition that has thus far been generally appreciated."

But let us come to the Gospel reading for the 13th Sunday in Ordinary Time. It recounts three different meetings Jesus had on the same journey. We will focus on one of these meetings. "And to another Jesus said, 'Follow me.' But he replied, 'Lord, let me go first and bury my father.' But Jesus answered him, 'Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.'"

In his book, the Pope comments on the theme of family relations alluded to in the above Gospel passage in dialogue with the Jewish-American Rabbi Jacob Neusner. In his book "A Rabbi Talks with Jesus," Rabbi Neusner imagines himself as present in the crowds when Jesus speaks.

Rabbi Neusner explains why, despite his great admiration for the "Rabbi of Nazareth," he would not have been able to become his disciple. One of the reasons for this is Jesus' position on family relations. Rabbi Neusner says that on many occasions Jesus seems to invite transgression of the fourth commandment, which says that we must honor our father and mother. Jesus asks someone, as we just heard, to forget about burying his own father and elsewhere he says that whoever loves father and mother more than him is not worthy of him.

Often the response to these objections is to cite other words of Jesus that strongly affirm the permanent validity of family bonds: the indissolubility of marriage, the duty to help one's father and mother.

In his book, however, the Pope offers a more profound and illuminating answer to this objection, an objection that is not only Rabbi Neusner's, but also that of many Christian readers of the Gospel. He takes his point of departure from something else Jesus says. "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers? ... Whoever does the will of my Father who is in heaven is my brother, sister, and mother" (Matthew 12:48-50).

Jesus does not thereby abolish the natural family, but reveals a new family in which God is father, and men and women are all brothers and sisters thanks to a common faith in him, the Christ. Rabbi Neusner asks whether he has a right to do this. This spiritual family already existed: It was the people of Israel, united by observance of the Torah, that is, the Mosaic law.

A son was only permitted to leave his father's house to study the Torah. But Jesus does not say, "Whoever loves father or mother more than the Torah is not worthy of the Torah." He says, "Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me." He puts himself in the place of the Torah and this can only be done by someone who is greater than the Torah and greater than Moses, who promulgated it.

Benedict XVI thinks that the rabbi is right to conclude: "Only God can demand of me what Jesus asks." The Pope notes that the discussion about Jesus and family relations -- like that about Jesus and observance of the Sabbath -- thus brings us to the true heart of the matter, which is to know who Jesus is. If a Christian does not believe that Jesus acts with the authority itself of God and is himself God, then Rabbi Neusner, who refuses to follow Jesus, has a more coherent position than that particular Christian does. One cannot accept Jesus' teaching if one does not accept his person.

Let us take some practical instruction from this discussion. The "family of God," which is the Church, not only is not against the natural family, but is its guarantee and promoter. We see it today. It is a shame that some divergences of opinion in our society on questions linked to marriage and the family impede many from recognizing the providential work of the Church on behalf of the family. She is often without support in this decisive battle for the future of humanity.

Han filéade den fint så att jag kunde ugnsbaka dem på en bädd av grönsaker. Jag lade lite gul lök, paprika och klyftad tomat. Grönsakerna kryddade jag med salt och timjan. Fisken kryddade jag med citronpeppar, salt och lite vitlökspulver. Jag droppade även lite citronsaft över. Medan detta var i ugnen så passade jag på och gjorde potatismos (ej pulver) till. Mums va gott det va! Magert men otroligt gott!

Con las netbooks recien salidas del horno, Linux ha conseguido un 4% del mercado en Sistemas Operativos Personales, esas máquinitas ahora son la revolución del mundo de los PCs.

Los Portatilés de bajo coste se han hecho faciles de utilizar por la simplicidad de Linux, casi todas las distribuciones Linux son bastante fáciles de utilizar y muy versátiles.

Bueno, resumiendo las Netbooks o Portatiles de bajo coste han conseguido que los usuarios de Windows se rindan a la simplicidad de Linux.

Si quieres Windows tendrás que vivir viendo los populares pantallazos azules, que ha creado Microsoft para que nunca se te olvide el color Azul, antes de comprar un PC con Windows, recuerdalo.
