Having posted music on one or more websites as well as other marketing activity such as a blog, phot

Having posted music on one or more websites as well as other marketing activity such as a blog, photo's, social networking or whatever resources you are using, there are opportunities to market these.

One I recently found out about was Stumbleupon. It's a very interesting concept. The key concept is that you register and then download a toolbar and you use this to tell the Stumbleupon service what you are interested in. In effect, every site that you visit, you can give a thumbs up or thumbs down to.

The service starts to understand what you are interested in and you can troll your way around the web looking at web sites. The more you vote for or against, the better it becomes at helping you find sites that will be of interest to you. It will also combine your interests and sites that you like with those of other people so that your recommendations may then in future be recommended to other people.

Thinking about promoting your music or songwriting efforts, this means that you can 'stumbleupon' those sites and recommend them. Of course besides self promotion, this also does provide an ability to provide you with useful information that you may be genuinely interested in which you can explore by 'stumbling'.

The toolbar has a number of other features. You can use a button to send a URL to someone else who you think will be interested and you can do this by importing your contacts from your email application or by inputting an address. This is a nice feature which means you can do this without having to open your email client.

You can view 'Channels' of information such as images, video, viewing sites that your 'friends' like as well as links to sites that others have stumbled on from a selection of areas of interest that you opt in to.

So far this looks simple to use and unobtrusive. The only concern I had really was that it is one more toolbar on my browser as I now have the normal Firefox toolbar, a toolbar where I locate sites I visit frequently, a Googe Toolbar, that I don't really use, but probably should and should probably utilise better (says he as he adds a Gmail button to it), the new Stumbleupon toolbar and the bar that shows the tabs that I have open.

I don't know yet how much Stumbleupon will help me promote my songwriting and music, but will let you know how it goes.

Es: http://[somewebsite]/accountinfo.php?user=Jdoe&session=12345678

[caption id="attachment_245" align="aligncenter" width="482" caption="Error 404"][/caption]

Pensate in caso di transazioni bancarie e/o acquisti on line.

Yes, this simple question has often troubled the mind of most of the webmasters. Many of them have acquired quality content and added attractive graphics and other ingredients to make their websites different and popular. But their site is just not on the top of Google. This is because they do not know how to check page rank on Google and increase it.

The answer is simple. One has to know what lies in the heart of Google algorithm, which is based on Page Rank, named after Larry Page who invented it. Page Rank can be understood as a huge electronic voting system.

The way to get good Google ranking is to get a high quantity and quality of links to web pages from important and reliable sources. The page that gets the most votes gets awarded the highest Page Rank, on a scale of 0 to 10. To check Page Rank you need to download your Google toolbar from the link, toolbar.google.com.

However, Google also takes into account the pages that cast the vote. Votes given by the important pages are of more weightage than the votes cast by relatively unfamiliar pages. This is referred to as link source importance. It is important that your desired key phrases appear in your anchor text as many times as possible, as it results in greater link quality. This is termed as text matching.

Once a site becomes established, Google renders more amount of trust to it, referred to as Trust Rank. It helps the search engines in determining sources’ reliability, often using age of the website as a parameter. The older a website is the more the trust rank is.

Thus Page Rank, text matching and trust rank are the three inputs any webmaster should use to make that magic wand, which will take their websites to desired heights.

Saya melayan Chrome seperti seorang kanak - kanak baru mendapat alat permainan baru.

**Kemasikin :

Tiada langangan RSS pada browser ini, haish.

The recent Toolbar PageRank update once again has caused much debate in the community SEO. Webmaster

The recent Toolbar PageRank update once again has caused much debate in the community SEO. Webmasters report sites that do not take much more traffic, despite the increased visible PageRank. In many ways forums people question the credibility of the values of the toolbar. Without disclosing the following five myths that I hope to answer some of the uncertainties caused by this update.

1. PageRank values range from 0 to 10.

While some believe that PageRank is a whole number, or at least converge on a full after intensive recursive calculations, is actually a float. Google rounds up the real value to the nearest intact and puts it on the scale of 0-10 which appears in your browser toolbar.

2. PageRank value appears in the toolbar that is used to rank the results.

As you may have noticed, the toolbar value is updated every few months with irregular intervals. This time the Google calculates and continuously updates PageRank, so sometimes real PageRank toolbar and prices may vary. The toolbar value should not be considered to some extent, but as a current level of your page has reached the time of last toolbar update.

3. PageRank is the primary factor to rank search results.

Not exactly. PageRank was the backbone of the success of Google, as a search engine, because of integrity, the ability to use the unique democratic nature of the web and hyperlinks, and relatively high immunity to abuse. But as years passed the Google technology became more sophisticated. Now, Google uses a cloud of factors to rank search results. Some of them are specific query (keyword saturation page copy and backlinks'anchor text) and some of them are specific area (domain age, keywords in the domain name, and of course PageRank). Nobody outside the offices of Google knows the actual weight of each factor and it is quite possible that PageRank is no longer the primary.

4. The Google Toolbar shows an increase of PageRank on my pages. My movement is going to skyrocket!

Wrong. There will not be any sudden increase in traffic after the upgrading of the toolbar anymore. As I said earlier, the calculation and continuous updating of internal Google PageRank means that scores also gradually adjusted as your pages or lose return. By the same toolbar upgrade will not cause any changes in the search results.

5. Toolbar PageRank has nothing to use, is just for fun.

This apparently is an excerpt from one of the representatives of Google. This is partly true. The reason why Google does not show the actual PageRank now is that there have been repeated attempts by hackers access to an exploitation of such data. Since 2004 the toolbar values updates are no longer synchronized with the actual positions to change, and therefore should not be considered very seriously in terms of SEO. However toolbar classes remains the easiest and most obvious way to assess the quality of a page and millions of Internet users judge sites regularly depending on what shows the Google toolbar.

E’ arrivato Google Chrome.

After figuring this out, I promptly re-enabled my disabled extensions, and suddenly my gTalk Sidebar extension (nifty little thing, by the way, it lets you have gTalk open in the sidebar, great stuff) was giving me an error that it Adobe Flash Player needed to be installed in order for it to work. I was puzzled, because it had been working fine not five minutes before, but I tried reinstalling Adobe Flash Player, to no avail of course.

I tried disabling and re-enabling gTalk Sidebar, uninstalling and reinstalling it, restarting my computer, disabling NoScript (that could be blocking javascript), and now I'm going to go try disabling everything else again really quick, before I continue on. Hold on one sec.

Oh no. I figured out the problem and it's not good. Flashblock, one of the most awesome Firefox extensions that I use is what's breaking gTalk Sidebar. The reason Flashblock is awesome is that it intelligently blocks flash instances, while not disabling anything permanently.

So here's my thinking on the fly: Flashblock allows the user to add exceptions to it's blocking nature. If I add an exception for the URL that the gTalk gadget uses. And, voilà! It works perfectly!

The URL for the popout gTalk is http://talkgadget.google.com/talkgadget/popout, so when adding an exception to Flashblock, use "talkgadget.google.com," because "/" is an invalid character. It works great for me! And it means that I don't have to scrap Flock 2 quite yet. I'm still resistant to change, but unless I have a good excuse, I can usually deal with new and different things. By the way, 99% of extensions for Firefox 3 work with Flock 2.0 beta. I say 99% because obviously, Google toolbar does not. Have a good day!

Google released their new browser named Chrome today at 2:00 P.M. Easter time, I've already downloaded it and let me tell you guys, so far so good. With only a file size of 7 MB, it is pretty fast to download and install. Unfortunately for all the Apple - Mac enthusiasts out there, the new browser is only available for Windows XP and Vista for now.

I checked some of the new features and here are my comments about them: the tab navigation is pretty fun, you can drag a tab and it will transform into a new browser window, it's much easier to run web applications on Chrome, it have a friendly debugging feature, it's pretty secure, and have an instant bookmark function that will place the pages you visit more frequently in your homepage.

You also have the ability to import your favorite bookmarks from Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox in a snap. Another feature I will use a lot is the new incognito mode, which will allow you to browse the Internet with a 100% privacy.

Some feature that I'm looking for is how to enable Google Toolbar in Chrome, and other SEO plug-ins that I use with Firefox. So far I couldn't find the toolbar, not even as a download, but I hope Google will let us know soon either how to enable it on Chrome or how to download it from their site.

I will definitely recommend everybody to try the new Google Browser: Chrome, you will notice how fast and easy to use is, trust me you will not regret it. Have fun my friends, see you later.

Hey guys,

Hey guys,

Recently i ran into this problem, some users of my client's website complaint that in some web forms the name and email fields comes have a yellow background which hinders the readability of the field.

After getting into depth details of the problem I came to knew that it happens only in Internet Explorer having Google Toolbar installed. In Firefox, Opera, Netscape it works fine.

This is a feature of Google Toolbar that it automatically highlights the fields (e.g. name, email etc.) in the yellow background color which facilitate the user to autocomplete the specified field.

Using some server-side and client side tweaks you can restrict the field to become autocomplete but Google Toolbar will still show the yellow background. The Google Toolbar feature overrides nearly all the server-side as well as client-side tweaks for the Name and Email fields.

Workaround:

To avoid the field's autocomplete:

You can set the AutoCompleteType property in the Html tag of Textbox like:

<asp:TextBox ID="txtemail" runat="server" AutoCompleteType="Disabled" Width="219px"></asp:TextBox>

Some enumerations for the AutoCompleteType property are :

BusinessCity - City in the business category

BusinessCountryRegion - Country/region in the business category

BusinessFax - Fax number in the business category

BusinessPhone - Phone number in the business category

BusinessState - State in the business category

BusinessStreetAddress - Street address in the business category

BusinessUrl - Web site URL in the business category

BusinessZipCode - ZIP code in the business category

Cellular - Phone number in the mobile-phone category

Company - Business name in the business category

Department - Department in the business category

Disabled - AutoComplete feature is disabled

DisplayName - Name to display in the user category

Email - E-mail in the user category

FirstName - First name in the user category

Gender - Gender in the user category

HomeCity - Home city in the user category

HomeCountryRegion - Home country/region in the user category

HomeFax - Fax number in the user category

Homepage - Web site URL in the user category

HomePhone - Phone number in the user category

HomeState - Home state in the user category

HomeStreetAddress - Home street in the user category

HomeZipCode - ZIP code in the user category

JobTitle - Job title in the user category

LastName - Last name in the user category

MiddleName - Middle name in the user category

None - No category specified

Notes - Extra information in the form

Office - Office location in the business category

Pager - Phone number in the pager category

Search - Keywords in the search category

Please note the difference between None and Disabled enumerations.

But setting the AutoCompleteType property will only direct browser to not to give options for autocomplete, it doesn't removers yellow background.

Remove Yellow background

Any code used to set the background color of textbox will fail in following conditions (regardless of run time or design time):

a) Specifying BackColor

b) Specifying background-color in CSS or Style attribute.

The one and only perfect way to do is :

a) Specify a CSS class for the textbox, e.g.

.txtNameStyle

{

font-size:12px;

height:13px;

border-style:none;

background-color: #666666 !important;

color:#ffffff;

}

b) Now declare the text box control so that it looks like this :

<asp:TextBox ID="txtName" runat="server" CssClass="txtNameStyle" Width="219px"></asp:TextBox>

Note:

The if the background is !important in Css-Style, the input is not considered by Google Toolbar. That's all what we need.

Now the last step is to just test the page into Internet Explorer.

That's all for this post, hope you will like it.
Please leave a comment for any help.

My mom's old computer click-of-death'ed a few days ago. I ordered her a new Inspiron, which arrived yesterday, and today I drove up to A Coruña to set it up at her place. As usual, I was positively surprised at the quality of Dell's packaging and overall engineering of the out-of-the-box experience. I set up the 17-inch widescreen flat panel display, the 3-GB RAM, 200-GB HD mini-tower machine, hooked everything up, and in 15 minutes all was running smoothly. Not a bad deal for just 575 €, I thought.

The disappointment came once Vista configured itself and let us in. Ohmygod, what is that ugly thing on the desktop? You know, I have been using Vista for some time now, and I like it. Yes. I like it. I like its behaviour and I like its looks. What? No, I am not embarrassed of saying this in public. I know, some people are. Anyway, I digress. There was that really ugly thing on the desktop, like a huge horizontal toolbar across the top, holding a few large blackish icons. Also, something similar to Vista's SideBar could be seen, well, down the right edge of the screen, where the SideBar usually appears, only that this thing was not the SideBar but something horrible. It looked more or less like the SideBar, i.e. it was a container-like area where large applets where docked. But it was oh-so-ugly. Not ugly. It was the most unstylish, tacky and trashy Windows application I've seen since the days of Visual Basic 5.

To make things worse (or more interesting, depending on your views), I realised that some McAfee thingy was also running since a menacing "M" was winking at me from the notification area on the taskbar. I am a survivor of McAfee products. I used to be a proud user of them, until one day I admitted that my relationship to them was a vampiric one; they were sucking my blood, stealing my CPU cycles, bombarding me with adware for products I didn't want, and making tasks that should be as low-profile and lightweight as possible a cumbersome and exasperating chore. So I filed for divorce and McAfee left my life forever. I am happily married to Windows Live OneCare now.

So. Mom's computer. Uninstall time.

Okay. The McAfee thingy was the first to fall. I had to sign in blood and swear to several gods that I was sure I wanted to completely remove all McAfee products from the machine. I rebooted. Phew.

After a few minutes of research, I discovered that the ugly toolbar across the top of the screen was Dell's own dock bar (or something like that), which fell next. I love uninstalling crap like this. Then was the turn of Google Desktop, the culprit of that bizarre caricature of the SideBar that I described above. With it fell the Goolge toolbar for Internet Explorer, another piece of digital bad taste.

After all this uninstal fury, mom's computer and I felt happier. Sipping a chilled coke, I asked myself: why do computer manufacturers like Dell ship such big amounts of pre-installed digital glitz on low-cost machines? A 575 € computer is likely to be bought by non-technical grannies like my mom who want a simple-to-use computer for email and web browsing. They want simple stuff. They don't need the four extra apps that I uninstalled. Look at it from this point of view:

The McAfee anti-malware thing was just a 30-day demo that takes a lot of CPU cycles, uses a highly complex user interface with dozens of buttons that only a knowledgeable person would understand and continuously prompts the user to take actions. This is not the kind of tool that my mom (or a similar user) needs. Keeping a computer virus-free should be something that a tool does silently and with as little user intervention as possible. Windows Live OneCare has not ever prompted me regarding its anti-virus service since I set it up months ago.

The Dell dock thing is totally superfluous. Vista's desktop, SideBar and taskbar more than make it completely redundant. C'mon, Dell, can't you come up with something a bit more innovative?

The Google toolbar was okay before Internet Explorer 7 and for internet-savvy users. And it was ugly. With IE 7 it is redundant. And it's still ugly. Who would want it? And why?

And the Google Desktop must be a joke. I can't think of even a remotely meaningful reason why anybody would want to install Vista, disable a core component of its user interface such as the SideBar, and install a tasteless replacement.

Oh well. This reminds me of a similar case, a few months ago. A friend asked me to take a look at his high-end laptop, a newish Lenovo which, according to his feelings, was sluggish. I did a quick check and uh-oh, six or seven processes were running, and taking a decent amount of CPU time and memory resources, which had been pre-installed by the manufacturer. My friend, the laptop owner, had no idea what these apps were for.

So much crap these days.

Google’s main intention had been and still is to serve the most relevant content to the millions of search queries submitted daily. And the PageRank of a web site quite frankly sums up the quality of the site itself, evaluating it against the search query. So, in a nutshell, that’s how Google works.

Recently, sites that sell Text Links and Sponsored Reviews had been the targets of Google PageRank drops. I’m sure you might have heard countless stories on the blogosphere how blogs of PR6 went to PR4 and PR2 went to PR0. Just because a blog sells Text Links, doesn’t mean that the content becomes irrelevant to the extent that Google should rank it low now, does it? source

Hey hey!
Here’s one for all you web designers out there! Are you finding random yellow input b

Hey hey!

Here's one for all you web designers out there! Are you finding random yellow input boxes on your HTML forms? Here's why - the ever so helpful Google Toolbar parses your page and paint yellow all of the input boxes whose name contains the word email, or any input boxes after the text "email". So remember to say thanks to Google for the accusations you'll get from all of the clients you've ever made websites for...!

I wouldn't mind so much if the toolbar did it's job properly but it paints the wrong fields! For example if you have "Email Address:" then it's textbox, it paints the textbox yellow fine. But if you have the textbox then some text "Email Address" and another textbox for say, password, on the next line, the password box gets incorrectly coloured in! Well done Google.

I've worked out how to get around this so anyone who hasn't already worked it out, read on.

Firstly, change the name of any fields that contain the word "email" to another word, so "em_ad" works.

Secondly, to get rid of their assumption that any textbox that follows the word "email" or "email address" you can create a textbox with style="display:none;". the type here must be "textbox" and not "hidden" as Google ignores type="hidden" and jumps to the following textbox. It misses display:none so you can make it think that is a real field.

Voila! All fixed from what I've seen so future products can be all good. Hope this helps some people out there

Shout back if there are any other "helpful" plugins/toolbars that redesign your website for you. I know Skype does a similar thing with phone numbers but that actually looks like Skype and not just a bad web designer.

One final thing to add is that the reason Google Toolbar does this is it autocompletes these fields as an accessibility feature for imparaired users, therefore make up your own mind if you think this is a feature you want to retain in return for website aesthetics. I say Google should offer web developers some customisation possibilities and maybe this would be a more accepted feature

I've always been interested in television and the nielsen ratings. The website lets you comment, rate and read reviews on your favorite shows. That's been around for a while but few people are actually apart of the household ratings. However, I've always thought everyone's opinion matters and therefore the ratings aren't as accurate as they could be. The internet, on the other hand, is much easier to track. That's why Google and other search engines use Alexa. Anyone can download the add-on to a browser and it tracks which sites you visit. Thus, Google uses this data as part of its algorithm when determining natural search rankings.

Now think about it...who goes to your website more than you do? No one...

Download Alexa and you are bound to increase your page's ranking!

Another cool tool by Google is Page Rank. This works similarly to Alexa and tracks traffic to the site and the number of links. Therefore, pay attention to this number (>4 is AWESOME) when joining sites and directories. Remember: quality NOT quantity!

When looking at the sites you have joined, it is also important to see where your competitors are. Type "allinurl:www.example.com" into Google to see where competitors are linked. It's also a great way to keep track of yours!

Upon completion of these tasks, watch your page rank increase! Enjoy :)

Go Firefox
