The spirit of an adolescent boy has been seen on more than one occasion wandering down Jennings Rd.,

The spirit of an adolescent boy has been seen on more than one occasion wandering down Jennings Rd., just before it intersects with Mt. Morris Rd. in Mt. Morris Township. I, myself encountered him on my way home from a friends house. He appeared to be roughly 15 years old and in a gray hoody and jeans. I sped by him at approximately 10:30 p.m. on a warm June night last summer. The one fact that made him stand out in my mind as I careened passed him is that he looked cold, and in a hoody, in June? When I glanced back in my rear view mirror he was gone. It gave me the chills for a moment, but I continued on, forgetting about it until just recently. I was just talking to my daughter, who lives in White Oaks Estates in that area. We were talking about this and that and during the conversation I mentioned that the block of Jennings by the park creeped me out. She asked me If I had heard of 'The Ghost Boy' as some of the residence refer to him.

Apparently, a boy Courtney attended school with in Mt. Morris had taken his own life by hanging himself in the woods by the 7-Up Plant. He has walked that stretch of Jennings home, quite a bit. Enough that several people in the area have spotted him, always in the evening. Walking back home.

Keep an eye out for him If you find yourself alone in your car on Jennings Rd.

It wasn't, however until February of 1854 that the first student was enrolled, and in the spring of 1854 the school had 12 students, 11 of whom were deaf. In 1867 the name was changed from 'Asylum,' to 'Institution.' In 1887 the name of Michigan School for the Deaf was given. 1937 marked the beginning of the State Board of Education assuming the property.

There were strange occurrences reported almost immediately. From the 40's until the present several night watchmen have quit their jobs there because they we're "not willing to," or "unable to," work alone at night in the building. Maintenance and security staff, as well as visitors have all reported seeing a young boy in the yard, dressed in out-of-date clothing, playing at night, and sometimes during bad storms.

I have heard stories about this building all of my life, and I know it is considered to be a local paranormal 'hot spot.'

"One Of Us, One Of Them"

Written by: Joe Pokaski

Heroes is on a roll. We're back to the Season 1 formula of every episode being better than the last. I find myself impressed by how many visual effects are used in each episode. Season 1, and even most of Season 2, used the visual effect sparingly in smaller episodes, so when they let loose and had a huge one with a lot of effects, it was so exciting. Of course that is done because of budget. Lots of other shows follow the same formula, including the other two I review on this site; Smallville and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Now I don't know if Hereos got a budget raise this season but they are not being shy with those visual effects. They're using them whenever they need them, and they always seem to propel the story forward, never feeling forced or excessive.

After the jump, read my SPOILER filled review. Trying to stick to more of a general review and not so much of a recap, but there are so many amazing moments that deserve mentioning. I'm so happy to be excited about this show again.

-SPOILER ALERT -

We again pick up where the last episode left off. Angela feeds a woman with a new ability to her Son, Sylar. Tracy is playing around with her new ability in one of those visual effect scenes you can't help but love. And Peter is stuck inside Jesse's body, in a car with the other escaped villains. They're on their way to a bank robbery, which is one of those super cool plot devices I never expected to see on Heroes. Flint's flame-thrower ability is used heavily in this episode. Seriously, these guys spared no expense. Knox is a pretty scary dude when he's powered up by all the scared people.

Agent Sylar Lee Jones

In a weird twist, Angela pairs up Noah with Sylar in order to round up the escaped psychos. In that scene, Noah asked for the Haitian but Angela informs him he's unavailable. Noah's next line made me wonder. He said "I can't do this alone. You know how it works. 'One of us, one of them.'" And even stranger, Angela replies, "I have the perfect 'one of them' in mind." Does Noah not know Angela has a special ability like the rest of "them?" I guess not or he would've said "one of us, one of you." Hmm. Interesting.

We see a different Sylar through most of this episode. He's actually giving this a shot. Finding out Angela's his mother and that he could actually have a purpose in life other than killing everyone he meets with an ability seems intriguing to him. He even speaks differently in the episode. He doesn't use his creepy, slow speaking Sylar voice he normally uses. It was almost as if Gabriel Gray was back for a short while. Noah agrees to taking Sylar on as a partner but only to keep an eye on him. But he's not Gabriel come back, is he? Even before the scene at the bank robbery, where he gives in to his hunger, he showed signs Sylar poking through. When we first see Sylar fixing his tie, and Angela tells him he's not a killer, its his ability that has made him this way; you start to hear the clocks ticking. That oh-so-familiar sound that means Sylar is about to strike. I think he wants Angela's ability. Lucky HRG came into the room. Oh, and Sylar in a suit = Weird.

The Sylar to the rescue scene was our assurance that Sylar is still here and not a full blown hero. Sylaris a villain. Always has been. Always will be. Even if we see different sides of him, there's always going to be that dark side that takes over. The Hunger will always win.

When Noah announces he's going to figure out Sylar's weakness and then kill him, the Internet fan community asked "Why not just walk in there with the Haitian, nullify his powers, and kill him?" My sister made an excellent point: He's not going to kill Sylar as an agent of the company. Sylar attacked Claire and got what he was after. Now its personal. And HRG is an honorable man. To kill Sylar when he's powerless in a locked room would be like shooting a man in the back, or killing someone who is unarmed and/or bound. HRG wants to do it right. He wants to prove to Sylar that he's better and in charge.

The Haitian

Hiro and Ando's scenes were incredibly funny. Hiro constantly referring to Daphne as his "nemesis" and doing funny superhero poses when in her presence cracked me up. He's definitely pushing Ando away though and that's going to have a direct effect on their future, as seen in last week's episode. They run into the Haitian (welcome back buddy!) and attempt to steal the other half of the formula, only to screw it up, have it stolen by Daphne, and now they're put in Level 5 by the Haitian. What's worse is that Daphne's employers now have both halves of the formula. I smell world destruction coming. One nitpick with this episode was Hiro and Ando's surprise at hearing there was another half to the formula. Come on Ando, you knew this already. And Daphne's facial expressions are all ridiculous and over the top. But that's more an acting nitpick than anything else.

Claire clearly wants to be out with her dad stopping the bad guys but her mom wants her to go to school. Claire's biological mother relates with her just enough to get involved. She takes Claire to get some "training" but really all she does is make Claire realize why she wants to be a hero in the first place. Its not for selfless reasons. Quite the opposite. She wants revenge. Lots of visual effects in that scene too. Gotta love it.

Every time I see Nathan on screen I can't help but scream in my head "FLY! ZIP UP INTO THE SKIES! SONIC BOOM! COME ON!!!" *sigh*... And Ali Larter is still stealing scenes, which is hard to do next to Adrian Pasdar. I'm not just saying that because we share the same first name. The man is an excellent actor. He's got a presence to him. Almost one of authority. I buy him as a politician. Someone in a position of power.

I'm not sure how I feel about Matt's storyline. On the one hand, I'm happy this new character is here. We finally have a replacement for Isaac Mendez, a source for new paintings, and a more regular provider of information about the future. Plus, he's a pretty cool character. But when he teaches Matt how to do it too, now we may be getting more precogs than we need. And I'm not sure how visions of the future relate to the ability to read and control minds. This is one of those wait and see things. I'm not against it just yet, I just have to see where its going. Still... Spirit walks are cool.

Tracy and Micah

Seeing Micah again was a nice treat. And seeing Niki's body in the casket was eery. It was confirmation that Tracy is DEFINITELY not Niki. But finding out Tracy was "created," and so was Niki, and presumably Jessica too. How many more could there be out there? Micah's hug was just heartwarming and I feel really bad for the little tyke. He's an orphan now and we're not going to see much of him this season. His one scene was pretty cool though.

My Favorite scene was definitely the climax of the bank heist. Peter using Jesse's ability was cool. And the visual effects when Futurelli stopped time mid-scream were gorgeous. Futurelli literally pushing Peter out of Jesse and then seeing Futurelli and Peter face to face was so exciting. Especially finding out that next week we'll probably be treated to an episode taking place in the future. Those are always good.

Hilarious moments include Sylar using the term "lookie-loo" and asking HRG, "You drink Decaff right Noah?" His impression of a Tommy Lee Jones from The Fugitivetype character was pretty funny. Hiro asking "What are you doing?" and Ando replying, "Being awesome!" Followed shortly by "Popcorn?" Knox complaining about "Super-Guantanamo." Awesome.

This episode is my new favorite... until next week, that is.

The A-Train's "One Of Us, One Of Them" Rating: 5 out of 5 Eclipses!

What a great idea for a chicken restaurant. Just the other night, I was craving chicken and considered going to Popeye's. Knowing I was kind of bad on my diet over the weekend, I didn't want to splurge on fried chicken. This afternoon, J asked me to run out to Horrocks to get some more of them delicious honey crisp apples. She went to work a little early, so I just waited to eat lunch until after she was gone. I made my stops at Wal-Mart and Horrocks then got thinking about lunch. When I was working this weekend, one of the guys I worked with had said something about YaYa's near Frandor. For some reason, I remembered there was one near the Lansing Mall, so that's where I went for lunch.

YaYa's is a chain of 17 restaurants with locations in Michigan and Florida. The first restaurant was opened in Seminole, FL in 1985, but the first franchise location was opened in Flint, MI in 1988. There are two locations here in Lansing and both are on Saginaw Highway. There's this one by the mall and the other is farther down Saginaw near US 127. This particular YaYa's is located in a shopping plaza in a very commercialized area of Saginaw Highway.

It was a little after two when I went looking for lunch. There were no cars parked in front and the inside was empty. The store is not very big. It's longer than it is wide and there are a handful of tables in the space to sit and eat. The counter is located at the far end of the space. The menu board is behind the counter above the grills where the whole chickens are butterflied and grilled.

I mentioned earlier this was a great idea for a chicken restaurant. I say that because the way the chicken is cooked. No grease. No batter. No oil. There are signs around the restaurant bragging about that point. "Fewer calories. Less Fat. Less Cholesterol." If you've never had grilled chicken, you're really missing out on something. When I cook chicken at home, I do that a lot. I'll fire up the grill and throw whole chicken or bone in pieces on and let it cook over an open flame. It actually tastes better than deep fried chicken and it's much better for you.

I didn't want a whole lot to eat or spend a ton of money. The menu consists of your typical chicken meals, sandwiches, salads, soups, and sides. There's an option for a couple value meals. I ordered the first value meal which is one wing, one leg, and one side. It really is a value at only $4.02. For the side, I got the garden salad.

The guy who took my order also prepared the to-go box for me. He pulled a whole chicken off the grill behind him and cut the two pieces off with a big meat cleaver. The pieces weren't very big, but you can't really expect much for $4. I grabbed the bag and headed back to my truck to get home and eat.

The smells were amazing. It was really hard not to reach in back and grab the chicken on the way home. I love the smell of grilled food and YaYa's had that smell. When I finally got home, I threw the groceries on the table and dug in. Like I said, the chicken pieces were pretty small, but they had a lot of meat.

The chicken was delicious. It was exactly what I was hoping for. I'm going to be really tempted to go back sometime and get a breast or some bigger pieces. YaYa's is such a great concept, I'm surprised it's not taking off. Everyone loves chicken, but there are so many problems with traditional fried chicken when it comes to dieting. I wasn't sure what I was expecting when I first saw the signs for YaYa's when we moved here, but all my expectations were shattered. They satisfy the chicken craving without the grease and breading.

"Gypsy Jack" Steffenson has moseyed down his last trail, or has he? According to some East Side residents he may still be roaming his Davison Road house. The house itself has been sold to a Canadian buyer and is slated for remodeling. Even before Roy's death in 2003 a battle ensued over his collection of old west memorabilia, some of which went up on eBay for auction. Now, the house stands empty, maybe.

According to some of Roy's neighbors there seems to be activity on the abandoned site. One witness reported seeing a light on the ground floor of the house at about 3:00am one morning last week. Two other East Siders say they saw someone standing in the upper window, when they looked again it was gone. Could it be that Gypsy Jack is upset over what has happened to his collection, or just not ready to saddle up yet? Whatever the case, I have a feeling that this is not the last roundup for Gypsy Jack.

You'll be stupefied by it!There is a ongoing debate on whether or not gun control works. If you've lived in the ghetto, you've probably seen your fair share of weaponry. With all the crime in places like Flint & Oakland, it's hard for me to argue against it. By the same token, I know what happens when most citizens are armed. It can prevent crime or it can create it. Let me tell you that being broke with artillery within reach is not an ideal situation for anyone. Even if you are not criminally inclined, it is tempting.

Living in the ghetto gets to be very dicey. Almost on a weekly basis, you're pulled into the drama that is the streets. Having a gun has led to many unintended shootings. When you're outnumbered by an angry mob of people, it's too easy to start popping off caps. Since America has the most heavily armed people in the world, we should have better control on who obtains them. If we cannot do that then we need to control the guns.

Michigan received the royal treatment Friday by King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden as he visited the state to promote green energy use.

The king participated in two events that day - the first being an energy summit in Dearborn, outside of Detroit. The second was for the main reason why the king came to Michigan: to break ground on a new biogas facility at Kettering University.

King Carl Gustaf was welcomed by Michigan governor Jennifer Granholm, and the two went to the Dearborn summit. There the monarch told an packed audience at the Ritz Carlton:

"We ought to know the impact of climate change is one of the greatest challenges the world has faced. Sweden has made progress toward a better environment, but maybe not fast enough."

Later on, the king was taken to Kettering University in Flint, a city known for its car industry. There, with Governor Granholm, Mayor Don Williamson, U.S. Ambassador to Sweden Michael Wood and the Swedish ambassador to the U.S. Jonas Hafstron, King Carl Gustaf broke ground for a biogas facility by using specially made shovels.

The biogas system converts human waste to biogas for use in the Flint bus system. The technology has been used in Sweden for 15 years. The project is the only one of its kind in the United States.

Governor Granholm hopes the facility will create 700 jobs for an area that is experiencing hard times.

"Our intention is we are going to lead this country in that production and learn from what we have seen in Sweden," said the Governor. "It's such a great day for Michigan to learn on how we can proceed to add those sectors to our economy and create jobs."

"Flint is on the move," Granholm added. "This is a very resilient community. We are on our way back."

During a news conference after the ceremony, Gustaf said he's aware of Flint's high unemployment, and he's glad to help.

"I know the history of the car industry in this area," said Gustaf, a car buff.

this is so ridiculous

When defence lawyer Carol Bickerstaff told Judge Paul Moyle in a recent case:

this is so ridiculous

When defence lawyer Carol Bickerstaff told Judge Paul Moyle in a recent case: “Your honour, we now have the fashion police,” she did not mean it metaphorically.

She was referring to the situation of her client, 17-year old Julius Hart, who had been arrested by police and put in the cells for a night for a fashion crime. He had contravened a local law in Riviera Breach, Florida which has criminalised the wearing of trousers that sag significantly below the wearer’s waist.

Police officers arrested Hart for the “saggy pants” violation when they spotted him riding his bicycle while his low trousers revealed “4 to 5 inches of blue and black boxer shorts”. Tired of seeing young people walking about town with their backsides hanging out, the older citizens of Riviera Beach passed the clothes law in March. For a first offence the fine is $150 or community service, the second time someone is caught with low trousers the fine is $300.

For the moment, Hart has escaped conviction by the skin of his low-slung pants. The judge ruled that the law prohibiting the trouser fashion is unconstitutional. The case, however, is due to be heard again more fully next month.

There are several places in America where similar local laws have been passed. In Delcambre, Louisiana, “sagging” as the revealing fashion is known, has been unlawful since last year and can attract a $500 fine and six-moth jail sentence. Historically, the sagging style emanates from prison culture where inmates are not permitted belts.

In Flint, Michigan, police have been issuing droopy-drawers tickets to locals since earlier this year. Police have even been supplied with a visual guide on enforcement: visible underwear warrants a warning, trousers falling below the bottom with underwear showing constitutes disorderly conduct, and a substantially exposed unclothed butt will attract an indecent exposure charge (what legal theoreticians might refer to as the bottom line offence).

well, there’s a number of things to say… first of all, sorry for not posting in a while.

well, there's a number of things to say... first of all, sorry for not posting in a while. i lacked subjects type/rant about and i've been busy with hw and other things as well. yesterday night's heroes was AWESOME!!!!

spoilers of 9/22/08 episodes, if you wish to not know, skip the next paragraphs:

anyways, last season, nathan was shot and we didn't know who. but in fact, it was his own brother, peter! peter from the future of course because the real peter was next to him when he was it. he came back from the future to undo what was done wrong in the future he came from. by altering events of the past, he completely screwed up what was supposed to be a future there. we discover angela petrelli's power, to dream of the future and also view into other people's futures. future peter locks peter of that time period into a level 5 cell in the company in the mind of a man named jesse, a seemingly very dangerous person. he sends matt parkman into a desert to wander after discovering that peter is future peter. nathan survives the gunshot from claire's last giving of her blood and regenerative properties. he goes dilusional wtih linderman in his head talking to him, and speaking that God saved him and gave him another chance.
hiro loses the half of the formula that is going to end the world to the fastest girl on earth, Daphne Millbrook but stop/slows down time to hold her 12th grade 100-meter dash gold medal hostage and offered a trade. ando became the middle man and became held as leverage between hiro and daphne with a knife to his neck. he peers into the future where he doesn't look for the paper his father left him, and finds that he and ando duel over that very paper, with ando killing him with a power that was a red fireball-like projection.
niki was believed to be dead, since the building where monika was held exploded. my theory is that a third personality imerged as tracy strauss. tracy, we find out has the ability of cryokinesis. i'm assuming she immerged during the fire, and saved the body of niki but tracy took over jessica (evil superstrength version of niki), and niki herself.
sylar, shows up at claire's house and proceed to take her power of spontaneous regeneration. he cuts open her head after a stupid game of cat and mouse then proceeds to pick at her brain for the power. the funny/comical part of this scene is dat claire goes "aren't you going to eat my brain?" sylar: "claire, dats disgusting." we now know that he only needs to tap into the brain to obtain the power. so he is now immortal, with the possible exception of a fatal attack to the head. later, meredith, claire's mom returns to protect her.
mohinder, using maya discovered the basis of the powers. in the adernal glands. powers only activate when tapped into the adrenal glands. "fight or flight" system of our bodies. take maya for example. her power only kicked in when she was mad or really sad. mohinder created a solution in which can give powers. he injected himself and gave himself superior strength and reflexes, but also gave him scaly skin like a lizard.
at the company, sylar breaks in and causes great chaos on level 5. he knocked out noah bennet, murders bob bishop and takes his power of alchemy, and proceeded to take elle's powers except when she threw an electrical fit which knocked out the power grid of the company. all the level 5 inmates escape but sylar is still unconcious. elle wakes up to angela petrelli, who is now head of the company.
the escaped inmates are benjiman "knox" washington, jesse murphy (who's mindset is currently peter), noah bennet, and flint who are proposed a deal by angela to work for her.

in a nutshell, that was last night's heroes hehe. dad's having a cold war with me -.-" sophomore hw is getting more and more annoying. and i should be doing hw right now XD. and SEEKERS TMRW! 3E19!, there will be FREE FOOD! in addition, i've hit over 1000 views! -points to blog stats-
