For those that are craving for additional displays, EVGA has announced its UV Plus+ lineup of USB display adapters. These two display adapters branded as UV12 and UV16 will use an USB to connect to PC in order to give support for additional displays.

Both UV12 and UV16 feature DVI and VGA support, and come with the so called GPU-less design. This design uses a virtual driver and high-performance DDR memory which gives it enough juice to run Windows Vista Aero and do high resolutions.

The UV12 will be able to produce up to 1440x900 resolution at 60Hz of refresh rate, while its bigger named brother UV16, will be able to give up to 1680x1050 at the same 60Hz. The design is stackable so you are basically limited by the number of USB ports.

These new USB display adapters should be available sometimes during this week at the suggested retail/e-tail price of €79. Both devices are based on DisplayLink chips and they will be definitely good for anyone that needs more than one additional display on the notebook.

You can check out additional info here.

EVGA has announced that they have begun shipping their new line of USB graphics adapters called "UV Plus+". (plus plus? Eh, they can call it whatever they want I suppose.)

The new UV Plus+ adapters plug into the USB port on your Windows Vista or XP computer (sorry, looks like no Mac support at this time) and then on the monitor end it supports both VGA and DVI connections.

While the UV Plus+ doesn't have an on-board GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) it does still support Windows Vista Aero.

Two models will be available in this line--the UV12 and UV16. Apart from physically different, it looks like the only other difference between the two models will be the resolutions they support.

For more info and to see which resolutions are supported, check out the product page here.

Could be a nice, easy way to add an additional monitor to your computer without having to pay for a new video card (assuming the card you have now supports just one display).

No pricing info yet but they are expected to be less $100 but since they are shipping we'll find out soon enough.

Anandtech (3-Way SLI)
PCPerspective

Well, I usually avoid shopping for anything on the day after Thanksgiving. Too many people and of course the bad behavior that goes along with it. This year, against my better judgment I headed out to Fry's with Very (37prime guy). I did pick up a new Samsung 20" LCD monitor for my Windows/Linux machine. Pretty good price too, only $250. I also picked up a new Video Card, a EVGA Geforce 8600GT with 512MB ram for $99. It did not have the dual DVI that I would have preferred, but for the price I can't complain.

PARTE 1

MOTHERBOARD NVIDIA nFORCE 680i SLI

Procesador: Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 2666MHz

Motherboard: EVGA 122-CK-NF68

Chipset: nVIDIA nForce 680i SLI

Tarjeta gráfica: NVIDIA EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 320 MB

Memoria RAM: 2 x Corsair Dominator CM2X1024-6400C4D SLI EPP DDR2 800MHz

Tiempos de Memoria: 4-4-4-12 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS)

Disco duro: Western Digital Caviar WD5000AAKS-22TMA (500 GB)

PSU: ULTRA 500 Watts modular

CPU Cooler: Zalman CNPS9500 LED

Windows Vista Business

Fig. 4 Systems Clocks

Paso 3.

FSB - Memory Clock Mode - Linked

FSB - Memory Ratio - Sync Mode

Fig 5. FSB & Memory Config.

Fig. 6 System Voltages.

A big part of my addiction to 3D is the gaming side, the ability to work with a team of people for long periods of time, striving for the same goals! its an awesome experience. Level Design is my specialty, I always loved building forts and sandcastles as a kid, and now helped build a tropical island in the china sea which wound up being a front for an alien invasion! Even though the Crysis days are over for me, I still love using my knowledge of the "Crytek Sandbox Dev" editor to MOD new places and scenarios for people to explore, destroy, and enjoy. like right know I'm working on three different MODs, one that triples all the AI in large scale areas to increase battle length and intensity, one that adds a large scale (250NPC+) jungle engagement between US and Koran Forces, and the newest being "Oasis Assault" which is a large sandbox style map that features several villages and secret locations the player can visit, also includes a run down shack the player and go to restock on ammo and maybe grab a new vehicle. So although I'm very happy I was not responsible for creating the world in 7 days with C4D, 3D studio Max, Maya, and the Sandbox Dev editor, I do love what I do and look forward to excelling in the fields of 3D and Game Design.

(3D programs and editors I'm currently working with: C4D, Realflow4, COH World-builder Dev, Sandbox Dev, and Ob Dev.)

All the above please. Unlike some blogs and online profilers who prefer to be an absolute mess, I would like to keep this apparently clean and to the point of interest. Reserving the right of "Whatever", I will tag the start of each new entry with a main subject title, for example (*3D would be on the subject of anything 3D). This might also be a really dumb idea, so maybe I won't do it at all.

So yeah for those of you that may have heard of me or know someone who knows me, than you know I'm "The 3D Guy". Well you see I have a funny disability that forces me to enjoy siting at my desk learning all kinds of 3d programs and editors. I sometimes ask my self why I do it, but before I can answer, a thought of a new cool idea for a game or animation pops into my head, which is not always a good thing because I'm ether working on a project that has a deadline and/or its 4 am in the morning and my wife is begging me to come to bed, because "global illumination" rendering makes the computer run a little hotter than normal, making my case fans turn up the RPM's.

(the following is a recommended product for all those crazy people that get "yellow and red eye" from working or playing in front of their computer screens for outrageously insane amounts of time/Murine Eye Drops, offering super relief to all your bloodshot problems! available at your local Walgreens and CVS stores)

You know when an entire day seems like it's been wasted. You feel so emotionally drained you begin to ooze around slowly like your shoes are stuck to the floor. That's pretty much what my day turned into. It started out optimistically, I waited for some critical replacement parts for one of my computers to come and waited and waited...

An hour after I should have stopped waiting I finally gave up and got some work done. That's the beauty of publishing on the internet. Location isn't a huge factor as long as you have internet access.

Late in the evening I finally tracked the UPS man down (who's actually quite nice). We shared a few laughs and he sent me on my way with an armfull of corrugated cardboard. I spent the rest of the night fixing my computer which has been down for the last week. It's times like this that you think about migrating to network storage.

Here's the hardware configuration after my recent "refresh":

Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale E8400 3.0GHz
Corsair XMS TWIN2X2048-8500C5
Gigabyte GA-EX38-DQ6 motherboard
EVGA 8800 GTS 512MB (G92)
Western Digital Raptor 74GB
2x Seagate Barracuda 250GB

That's enough tech-speak for the rest of the day.

So it’s finally happened. My computer of 4 years (yes 4 years!) has died. Actually, it died ab

So it's finally happened. My computer of 4 years (yes 4 years!) has died. Actually, it died about 2 years ago when the motherboard failed. I don't know exactly what happened. It seemed that something shorted out. I did want to upgrade at the time, but thought better of it and instead invested in a replacement of the same model. It was an Asus P4P800. RIP.

At the time I didn't think much of it, and thought it simply was its time, until even the replacement board failed 2 years later. I began to think that maybe the power supply is the one to blame. Everything worked good until my video card fan broke down and I had to buy one of those giant Arctic Cooling fans. I also replaced the CPU heatsink as well along the way, but something in there wasn't right. Perhaps the wattage on my power supply just wasn't cutting it anymore, it most likely is the case.

This time, instead of simply going through the effort and cost to get back to pretty much the same state as before, I shelled out for a new PC. It was time, really. The only thing I managed to keep actually, were my hard drives, and the case... I had originally wanted to just simply replace the motherboard with a newer model, but since motherboards nowadays all use PCI-Express, and all I have is an AGP video card, it also meant I would have to get a new video card with the motherboard. One thing lead to another... In addition, my power supply is only 360watts, which isn't enough to power current gen hardware (and also lacks the supplemental plug for the video card). My DVD drives are also IDE, and current motherboards only have one IDE port (which I'm currently using with my one IDE hard drive) which meant I had to get a new SATA DVD drive as well. My computer case is an Antec Sonata, and the power supply has a "quiet feature" which monitors the case fan as well. Unfortunately, my new power supply doesn't have that feature, so I had to replace my case fan as well. Also, my RAM was outdated. Though it might have been compatible with my new motherboard, it probably would have slowed the system down. Also, because I was getting a new motherboard, it also meant a new CPU as well.

In the end, my shopping list wound up to be fairly big:

Antec Earthwatts 500w power supply

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600

E VGA Nvidia 8800GT

OCZ RAM (2 gigs)

Asus P5K ATX motherboard

Pioneer DL DVD +/- SATA

Scythe Slipstream case fan

For the first time in my life, I took apart my own computer, and installed a new one in its place. I'm still praying that everything will remain fine and working...

I have to say though, that it was much easier than I thought. Only light cursing (and mostly in humor) was the highlight of the process. Every plug has pretty much been dummy-proofed so there's no real way you can plug it in wrong (except for the Firewire and USB plugs, that is). Overall, I'm quite happy with the performance, especially with the Scythe Slipstream. It's inaudible! Same with the power supply fan! Right now, the loudest fan I have is the Zalman CNPS7500-CU, which in its own right is probably one of the quietest CPU heatsink fans already!

So now, everything's all closed up, and my system is re-installed. It pretty much looks the same as before, but now it's improved significantly. It'll prolly last me for another 4 years before I need another replacement, but in terms of my needs, this will probably do for the rest of the computer's life.

GPU Overclocking Guide

Disclaimer: Game and Tech Reviews is NOT responsible for any damage to your components.

So, you've bought a really low budget Directx 10 card? Wanna squeeze every last ounce of performance out of it? You bet you do! You are gonna need ATITool to do the overclocking. You can find a download here: http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/ . Take a moment and get used to the program. nTune can also be used to overclock; and, can be easily accessed by right clicking on the desktop and selecting "NVIDIA Control Panel", choosing the "Performance" tab, and then by clicking on "View System Information." This also comes in handy because you can manually turn the stock fan to the desired speed. Check your card stats out with GPU-z available for download here: http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/896/mirrors.php .

So, what exactly are we doing here? Well, a graphic card works using the same basic parts as a CPU does, only it uses different architecture. It has a clock speed for the processor or the core. And a clock speed for the RAM or memory. For the 8600GT, the core comes at 540MHz and the memory comes at 700MHz. By using the sliders on ATITool, I was able to get mine to a very stable 710/750. A higher clock speed is better than a higher memory speed. But, as a general rule of thumb the memory should be equal to or greater than the core frequency. You can use the auto finders to get a general estimate of what your card will do. But, I really recommend you do it manually. Scan for artifacts to test stability, and I also recommend using a 3dMark program. My overclock boosted my score 1000 points. Expect crashes, snow, and a weird screen flashes. Just restart and try again. Don't be alarmed if it doesn't start right back up again. This IS normal. Just turn it off, wait a few seconds, and try again. I really recommend you have proper cooling and do NOT exceed temperatures of over 70C. I suggest you invest in some decent cooling if you wanna push it really high. Every card overclocks differently. And, you at some point will hit a wall because of voltage. There are other guides out there, but they require soldering a resistor on to your card and/or shading in parts with a pencil. I chose not a write a guide on this because its way to risky and plus it would void my lovely warranty. And, I can't afford to not be eligible for the "Step up" plan.
