Ruth and Erik had a double date and went to see the show, after wards going to dinner across the street at Jitlada (a wonderful Thai restaurant across the street). The four of us chatted about rice, e-vites, muffins and Taylor's show. If you are a fan of edgy but accessible art, Taylor Mac is not to be missed. Right before my alarm went off this morning, I was having this crazy fucking dream.  I was an alcoholic, and I think my family put an intervention together for me.  I was one of the really bad ones, like drinking Listerine bad.  In my dream I was drinking bottles of bleach, though.  WTF sub-conscious?  So people were trying to talk to me, and I can't pay attention because I'm so smashed off of bleach, and Sue is trying to tell me something and I get all emotional.  Then they're trying to take the bottle out of my hands and I'm struggling to get the last little drops in my mouth.  Then finally I'm like, FINE BABE, I'LL GO IF THESE BASTARDS GET ME ANOTHER BOTTLE OF BLEACH!  Alarm goes off -- dream ruined. 

Maybe I will do a re-cap of all of my favorite episodes thus far.  Inhalant girl is number one fo sho.  Sue even votes her as number one.   

Our neighbors to the north discovered the word “Poon.”  This lesson came from the overweight Caucasian male mayor of a small Kansas city and his vaginally named back up dancers.

Arkansas City Mayor Mel Kuhn entered his city’s annual “Men in Tights” competition, a drag queen contest fundraiser for CASA, Court Appointed Special Advocates.  CASA helps foster children in the court system.

Mayor Kuhn won the beauty contest with his character “Smellishis Puhn,” a play on his name.  His backup dancers were the “Red Hot Puntangs.”

It could’ve been worse.  He could’ve used “Smelly Khunt and the Bearded Clams,” “Mel Khunninlingus and the Gurgling Honey Pots,” or “Percolating Mel and the Dripping Deltas.”

Kuhn wore a sequined dress, tights, a black curly wig and was painted in blackface.

And you thought our mayor made bad decisions.

I hope he knew to wear pumps.  They’re slimming to the thighs.

Ark City CASA executive director Linda Groth said she was unaware of what “Poon” meant until it was explained to her.  Someone will now have the awkward task of explaining the word “MILF” and why spinners aren’t acceptable fashion for middle-aged Caucasian women.

Groth is also the genius who believed Kuhn portrayed someone that was “really really” tan, and not black.  Kuhn added, “I can’t do a black accent,” which proves it's not possible for him to portray an African-American

Kuhn said the idea came from the movies “Norbit” and “Big Momma’s House.”

Good thing he didn’t watch “Striptease” and “Silence of the Lambs.”  It would be harder to explain why you’ve eaten audience members while swinging on a pole.

The best thing ever (for the week) was the Little Dutch Boy. The Little Dutch Boy is this old guy that's always at the clubhouse. He has this awful straw-weave thing going on. Paige and Erik posed near him.

Oh my goodness...and we made fun of Brit-Brit's weave...

Mall of America with Stella. The mannequins in Forever 21 were in extremely odd poses.

Then there was Chino Latino... which was Erik's idea. The coolest thing there was a drink (called the Orgasmo or something) which came in a pineapple!

After we were done with Pi and waiting outside for a cab, a guy came up to us and offered to share his cab to the 19 Bar. I politely told him "No, we are going to Saloon"...

Former National Theatre artistic director Richard Eyre will also return to the theatre to direct The Observer, a new play by Matt Charman (whose The Five Wives of Maurice Pinder was seen at the National in 2007).

Dame Helen Mirren, last seen on the London stage when she starred in Eugene O'Neill's Mourning Becomes Electra at the National's Lyttelton Theatre in 2003, will return to the same theatre in June 2009 to star in a new production of Racine's 1677 play Phaedra.

Phaedra will be directed National artistic director Nicholas Hytner, who revealed further plans for 2009 at a press conference to announce the publication of the theatre's 2007-2008 Annual Report, which reflects on the National's successes over the last financial year.

The 2007-08 Travelex £10 season achieved 90 percent capacity (while the three-theatre complex achieved 87 percent capacity overall, with 730,000 paid attendances for 26 productions staged across the year, 19 of them new). According to the Annual Report, the Travelex season (in which the majority of tickets are sold for £10) "has proved to be one of the National's long-term hits, a sustainable programming model that has proved not only popular with audiences – we expect to sell our millionth £10 ticket during 2009 – but hospitable to a large range of work."

Hytner revealed that the 2009 Travelex season will be launched with a new play, England People Very Nice, by Richard Bean that he will direct in the Olivier. The season will continue with Marianne Elliott's production of All's Well That Ends Well; the National directorial debut of Donmar Warehouse artistic director Michael Grandage with Danton's Death; and Brecht's Mother Courage, directed by Deborah Warner and starring Fiona Shaw in the title role.

Bean, who previously wrote The Mentalists that was seen as part of the Transformation season in the reconfigured Lyttelton Theatre in 2002, has also had plays produced at the Royal Court (including Harvest, Honeymoon Suite, Toast and Under the Whaleback), Bush (The God Botherers) and most recently the touring company Headlong (The English Game). According to Hytner, England People Very Nice is "set in Bethnal Green and is about four waves of immigration [to the area] — French Huguenots, Irish, Jewish and Bengali – and finds a pattern in them. It is written with a kind of boisterous bravura that is very much in the tradition of South Bank comedy – and is very funny."

Also on the schedule for the next year are productions of Wole Soyinka's Devil and the King's Horseman, directed by Rufus Norris; Dido Queen of Carthage, directed by James Macdonald; and JB Priestley's Time and the Conways, directed by Rupert Goold (the Patrick Stewart Macbeth that was a hit in the West End and on Broadway, Six Characters in Search of an Author that has just opened at the Gielgud, and the upcoming West End revival of Pinter's No Man’s Land). About Goold Hytner said, "He seems to me to be in a period of extraordinary imaginative fertility."

Ever since our favorite girl kissing straight chick hit the airwaves, we at "Gossip"have been a little nutty for news and information about her.  We love her quirky style and fresh attitude, and we definitely hope to see LOTS more of her! 

But until then, we figured we'd show you a few fun photos we found of her hanging out with a fabulous queen and her label mate Ferras, not to mention a cute one of her at the VMA's!  Enjoy!!

Interwiew

- You would tell a story about yourself, how you started it when on this shows, we induced, that make an appearance, than drag queen, how much this life of yours defines it?

: I started doing drag about 5 years ago. The first time I did it was for Halloween (like so many others). Halloween is the magical night when all the new drag queens are born! LOL Of course at the time I just did it for fun. I got dressed up as “Jessica Rabbit” from the movie “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.” I had never done drag before, and some friends of mine who did drag professionally helped me put it together that night. And I remember how much fun I had that night and how gorgeous I looked… and it just stuck with me! It’s very true when they say once you’re bitten by the “drag bug” – you’re stuck with it for good! After that I got into a drag on only a few occasions – again just for fun and to dress up. Then after going to enough drag shows – I decided I wanted to start performing. Of course, when I first started – I didn’t look anywhere near as good as I do now. I didn’t know how to do my own make-up – I had to have friends do it for me. And I got tired of that – I wanted to be able to do it myself. So I started learning. I can definitely say I’ve come a LONG way since then. I still would not say my make-up is perfect – I’m still always learning new tricks. But it definitely looks good enough to compete on stage. I started competing in a weekly drag contest for new drag queens at OW Bar in New York City. I was VERY nervous about performing in drag because this was something very new to me. I had performed on stage before but for musical theatre and dance shows. Performing in drag… in high heels.. was new territory for me, but I was pretty confident in myself. I made it to the finals. Unfortunately I didn’t win, but I did get 1st runner up. That gave me the confidence to keep trying at it and get better at it. And over time I have.

I would not say drag defines my life – because that would be a lie. I don’t “eat, sleep and breathe” drag. And I don’t think I ever would. I only do drag for shows and entertainment. It is fun… but I only do it for specific events. When the show is over, I take off the make-up and I go back to living my life as a boy. My drag persona is very much a part of me – but it is not ALL of me. I enjoy getting dressed up for shows and entertaining audiences. I do not have any wish to live my life, however, as a woman – or a tranny. It just does not interest me. I know who I truly am, and I’m very comfortable with that.

- According to you we the most important an drag queen, that let him be successful? What kind of hints you would give to a beginner?

: I think the most important factor for a drag queen that allows him to be successful... is to have HEART. When you’re in drag... you’re being a character. And you have to really believe in yourself in order to pull it off. If you want to have fans and you want people to take you seriously as a good performer – you have to be able to show them that you really love what you’re doing and that you can do it well! You need to be creative too. You can’t do what everybody else does because nobody will take you seriously. You have to come up with something fresh & unique. You need to develop your own style. And the other important thing you need to remember is you must always control the drag – never let it control YOU!

- From what kind of singers you perform your shows? An idol exists for you in this drag queen world?"

: When I perform I usually like to do a lot of what I call "old school drag." I like to do very campy numbers from classic singers like Doris Day, Shirley Bassey, and Eartha Kitt. I also like to do a lot of Spanish/Latin songs too (since I am Latina). :) Every so often I'll switch things up and do a current Top 40 song too. I don't really have an "idol" except for my friend Desiray – who is amazing drag performer also. He's taught me so much and inspired me to push myself to do better!

Just like any other underground drag queen in 1988, RuPaul's earthly belongings seem to basically amount to some disco records, nail polish, and a cat poster, which he enthusiastically strokes while clutching a PBR tallboy.

His passion for making the sale and confusing circular hippie love are so endearing that I am willing to look past the major disregard for hygiene in selling his used makeup.
