Direção: Dennis Dugan

Roteiro: Barry Fanaro, Alexander Payne, Jim Taylor

Yesterday I posted a video featuring Dan Aykroyd, Philip (Phil) Power and Crystal Head Vodka. Crystal Head Vodka is unique in that it is bottled in a Bruni clear glass skull replicating any one of the thirteen crystal heads unearthed around the globe which are believed to offer spiritual power to any who possess them. The vodka is quadruple distilled, triple filtered through Herkimer diamonds and has a slight creamy sweetness about it rather than absolutely no taste at all according to Dan Aykroyd.

The “viral” video touched off speculation as to whether Crystal Head Vodka is real or a hoax. Message boards all across the internet theorized on the different reasons as to why it had to be a joke. Either way, hoax or no, the glass skull is dazzling especially this time of year. After posting the video, I heard from Phil Power through comment.

“Just thought that I would confirm the very real existence of Crystal Head Vodka.” – Phil

Well, I cannot leave well enough alone. The comment did not offer proof, just stated it existed. I emailed Phil. Phil by the way is the Quality Control Manager at Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation. He sent me a link to authenticate Crystal Head Vodka being real. The site is real. The skull is real. The person writing about it is authentic. There are comments on the write-up. There are two online beverage sites listed in the comments that sell Crystal Head Vodka. I tried them both. Neither allowed the purchase to be complete although both stated there were bottles in stock. Suspicious, but this still does not prove or disprove Crystal Head Vodka’s existence.

Dan Aykroyd however is very convincing. He dished about several of his favorite spirits on Delish which was also linked on the site Phil sent to me. Dan Aykroyd recently announced the launch of the Dan Aykroyd Discovery Series Wines within the U.S. beginning in December 2008. He is involved with Diamond Estates Wine & Spirits, Ltd. So it is not a stretch of the imagination that Dan would be involved with other realms of the spirit world. Each is fascinating. In his interview with Delish he paints a lovely picture of Newfoundland’s glacial pool water, peaches and cream corn mash and the way these combine to give the Crystal Head Vodka a bit of Georgia peach moonshine sweetness with a sharper edge than the slippery vodka most companies on the market strive for today. Read the interview on Delish. Dan is talented at captivating a reader. I could visualize his enthusiasm while reading through this interview.

Phil is equally as persuasive. He has a background in Food Science and has been with Newfoundland Labrador Liquor for 28 years. He is also the creator of Iceberg Vodka. Iceberg Vodka also begins with Newfoundland pure water and peaches and cream sweet corn. Sound familiar? The bottle is distinctly different than Crystal Head Vodka and was conceived in 1991. Iceberg Vodka has also been featured on Thirsty Traveler. There are also recipes on Iceberg Vodka’s website. Crystal Head Vodka cannot boast about recipes, but my guess is its video has been featured on a fair amount of sites. However, to learn more about how the icebergs are gathered, tested and then become Iceberg Vodka, watch the two videos posted under Iceberg Vodka in the videos section of my site.

Lastly as proof of Crystal Head Vodka’s existence, yet another kind soul emailed me back today with more information. Infinium Spirits is said to be the importer of Crystal Head Vodka, although in search Crystal Head Vodka does not appear. That is often the case for many liquor sites with new launch products. Crystal Head Vodka is currently available in California, Nevada, Texas, Louisiana and Florida. It launched approximately a month ago. It will gradually roll out into other markets in Canada and the U.S. in the coming months. What should be realized when a product launches is that it is not always readily available in great quantity. When a product is in such high demand due to the curiosity factor such as this one, it is often more difficult to find.

Since it has been confirmed by all the important parties that a "Ghostbusters 3" is indeed in the works, there has been some speculation as to what the movie will be about. So far, the word is that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson will be returning and they will have four new Ghostbusters as trainees. Then, they can make more movies with the new Ghostbusters. Unlike another "Bull Durham" or "Pirates" movie, this actually makes sense. It's already a better plot premise than the atrocious "Ghostbusters 2"

This blurb on IMDB mentions the four actors rumored to become the new Ghostbusters. They would be Steve Carell, Seth Rogen, Paul Rudd, and Chris Rock. My comedy pants just went absolutely insane and I actually already bought a ticket for this movie.

Cinematically Correct note: To sum up: Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, Hudson, Carell, Rogen, Rudd, Rock. Would there be any doubt this would be the greatest comedic cast ever assembled?

Ok, so I just realized something while wandering around Dan Aykroyd’s Crystal Skull Vodka shit

Ok, so I just realized something while wandering around Dan Aykroyd's Crystal Skull Vodka shite (typo, but it stays), there is not a link for buying said vodka anywhere. That along with the many rumors, and Bill Murray being quoted as interested leads me to a theory -- That this is a viral marketing scam for Ghostbusters 3.

Hmmmm...Dan Aykroyd, I am beginning to think you are crazy like a fox instead of just bat-shit crazy. At least I hope so. Ghostbusters 3 could be effin rad. Or a trainwreck. I am willing to risk it either way.

Nah, scratch that, it is way too early for it to be about Ghostbusters 3, and it is a bit off topic. What the hell is he up to? Does anyone have an opinion?

USA & Canada: Simultaneous Monumental History Making Events October 14,

USA & Canada: Simultaneous Monumental History Making Events October 14, 2008 WAR, INC.
Category: Movies, TV, Celebrities
Canadian Federal Election: Who's the Boss? & DVD/Blu-ray movie release: WAR, INC.

October 14th, Canada goes to the polls to select a possible new leader or more of the same but with Canadians ready to force our government to act on issues that are important to us.

USA Content...

WAR, INC. gives us a satirical perspective into the business of war, with regard to war profiteering.

Music video: Jedi Mind Tricks - when all light dies

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ko0CKv-jyWU

The movie looks and feels ridiculous in notion to some who have yet to be exposed to the issues surrounding this fact that has become part of regular business in the USA. Some fear the same situation could happen in Canada depending on how Canadian voters, vote on October 14th.

The movie was written by John Cusack, Mark Leyner, Jeremy Pisker to help reach even more people with regard to the unethical business of war profiteering, being disguised as corporate outsourcing of military actions/services.

Public/civil services such as policing and military (as well as jails and disaster relief) have been handed over to private for profit corporations that are not government regulated, yet are government funded with tax payer dollars. Some of the arguments against these private corporations are that they don't do the job they claim they can do. Along with allegations of human rights violations and war profiteering, the country in this case USA, has spent even more money funding these corporations than had they done the job with the military/policing structures that were originally in place. These are just a few of the complaints against the government's decision to release these vital civil services to unregulated corporations. Many informed Americans are looking for ways to have their governments reverse the situation before it becomes even more disastrous. It's said that the human rights violations at current out weigh any positive argument to have contracts with these companies.

Review written by Me.

Hilary Duff was perfect in her part, as were all the other actors including John Cusack, an amazing onscreen force as usual (everyone loved the fight scenes). My group of movie goers were ages 40, 35, 22, 21, 20, 18, 16, and 3- 15 year olds. There was some hushed discussion once they realized Yonika Babeyeah was Duff; The kids even let me talk some politics with them on the way home from the movie and afterwards. All liked the movie, the boys (3- 15year olds loved it!) One still quotes certain parts... it was a great way to start some conversations about the bigger issues going on in the world, that would have seemed too deep and confusing otherwise. Having War, Inc. to relate to made it easy to open up the discussions that not only covered what the movie was about but other idea's as well that will hopefully have a positive effect on how they see themselves and their responsibilities in the world.

Recalling certain parts of the movie during our conversations kept everyone interested and they even asked questions, some I couldn't answer but at least they were thinking about big world issues and how being their best could help make changes. It was the weekend and it had just begun, so the converstion ended but hopefully not for long. I'm looking forward to getting the DVD and finding the answers to those questions that were asked that I was unable to answer or give an opinion on.

Great stuff, thanks for this movie!

Now for a real review... cinemablend

Have a great week, LA/ME

I was eight when Ghostbusters came out. It was the summer of 1984, and we piled into my mom’s brown van with all my cousins to see it at the Lafayette Square Mall. I loved it fiercely along with the Ray Parker Jr. Soundtrack that we had on LP.

Yesterday, after attending an afternoon fundraising concert in Syracuse called Barack around the Block, underdressed and shivering in the wet grass, I decided to come home and watch a movie. I don’t have a TV, so I opened Hulu.com, a site with loads of free TV shows and movies. The movie selection is strange: Starship Troopers, Bring it On, Weird Science…and Ghostbusters I and II. I hadn’t seen it since the 80s.

The script, written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, doesn’t really make a lot of sense. Dr. Peter Veckman (Bill Murray), Dr. Raymond Stanz (Dan Akroyd) and Egon (Harold Ramis) are paranormal psychologists working for a university that looks a lot like Columbia. They’re all very thin and healthy looking. Bill wasn’t nearly so morose back then. There’s a lot of gratuitous smoking, and apparently they’re all geniuses that understand nuclear physics. But this crew of eggheads is more interested in chasing ghosts.

I remembered the opening scene vividly. A librarian at the NYC Public Library is down in the stacks, and, all of a sudden, the cards from the card catalog (remember those?) start flying in the air. The librarian sees something scary and screams, but the audience doesn’t see what it is. I don’t quite remember why the “doctors” are called out there (they hadn’t formed the Ghostbusters yet), but after investigating the scene, they see a scary ghost lady and run out screaming. Bill Murray convinces Dan Akroyd to take a second mortgage on his home in order to launch a ghostbusting business. Pretty risky. But these were the booming Reagan 80s. And the American dream was still rooted in the powerful American dollar.

Enter Sigourney Weaver. She looks absolutely stunning in this movie. Somehow despite being a gorgeous cellist for the New York Philharmonic, living in a co-op overlooking central park, she’s still single. She has to brush off her nerdy neighbor Louis Tully, played by the inimitable Rick Moranis. Rick Moranis! Where did he go? Did he and Dan Aykroyd run back to Canada?

But one day, when she’s unloading her groceries, the eggs start popping out of the carton and frying on her countertop. Her fridge starts to growl and lights up mysteriously. When Sigourney opens it she sees a neo-gothic temple floating in a purple sky. She hears the name Zuel and it’s all pretty trippy.

She decides to call on the Ghostbusters, who had been advertising on TV. Bill Murray falls for her immediately, but Sigourney thinks he’s kind of a sleaze. Together they inspect her kitchen, which is now bereft of ghosts much to her embarrassment.

Suddenly, phantom spirits overrun NYC. Remember Slimer? He’s a fat, green ghost that can somehow eat hotdogs—lots of them. And the Ghostbusters, who trap these unfortunate creatures in little boxes with nuclear powered guns, become famous. We get a nice montage of all the Busters on the cover of USA Today, Time, even the The Atlantic Monthly (a nice shout-out to the liberal elite).

Then, things get really weird. Sigourney is attacked by a devilish dog-creature in her living room, and she’s possessed by “Satan”, although the evil spirit isn’t actually called that. It’s called Zuel. Now she’s the Gatekeeper in a gauzy red dress, hair wild, eyes lined with kohl, hypersexual and heaving. Her dress is nearly always slipping off, but it doesn’t because it’s a PG movie (by the way, I counted only one instance of profanity during the entire movie. It was “shit”.). So the sexy, possessed Sigourney is looking for her Keymaster. Turns out it’s Rick Moranis (he was also attacked by a devil-dog in Central Park). Rick is great in this role. Nobody plays nerdy and awkward quite like Rick Moranis. There’s such warmth in Moranis. I think back to his performance as Seymour in Little Shop of Horrors. He was so touching. But I digress.

Okay this is where it gets really complicated. In the 1920s, apparently some sorcerer guy designed the building where Sigourney now lives. He built it to attract ghosts—or as I understand it—the devil named Zuel—to come and destroy the world. It’s hazy. But I think the sorcerer/architect is returning as Zuel. But this time he’s taking the form of another sparkly, half-naked woman, who has hair like Grace Jones and demonic, red eyes. She’s a mean bitch. And she’s also heaving and hypersexual. So, I guess, if we’re going to get into metaphors or semiotics—in the 80s, we were afraid of strong, sexy women because they had evil powers. They had to be wiped from the face of the earth.

Then, the four Ghostbusters (Ernie Davis joins the lineup at some point as the token black guy) destroy her with their big guns that shoot out long streams of white-hot heat, but she’s not really destroyed. Instead, she transforms into the Stay-Puft marshmallow man.

The Ghostbusters realize that the only way to “neutralize” Zuel is to cross their streams of white lightning (rendering them red)—a sort of a nuclear circle jerk that could potentially be very dangerous and blow up the entire city.

But, as we all know, the Ghostbusters pull it off in the end and are celebrated as heroes by the citizens of NYC, who are cheering and wearing Ghostbusters merchandise. Oh, Rick and Sigourney survive too. Sigourney is hot for Bill after he rescues her.

In the final scene, we see Slimer the glutton-ghost and we are poised for a sequel. Until next time...

And now, a word from Dan Aykroyd about Crystal Head Vodka.

I guess it's easier to make the bottles in the shape of a skull than that of a still-beating human heart or melting Nazi face. Still, it's very confusing to watch Danny A. give a long-winded sales pitch for a product associated with a film he had absolutely nothing to do with. It's like if Val Kilmer made a video for Dark Knight-themed breakfast cookies. Just a big, flashy WTF? spinning around right in front of your eyes.

On the other hand, at least Aykroyd's out there trying new things. When's the last time you saw Ernie Hudson shilling on the booze market? Nineteen-eighty-never? Exactly.

Dan Aykroyd Wines celebrate the spirit and flavour of the world’s top wine producing regions.

From his highly successful career in film and television to his co-founding the House of Blues, Dan Aykroyd has brought laughter, music and entertainment into the homes and hearts of millions of people around the globe.

Under Dan’s direction, his wines will be produced by Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits Ltd., a top independent Toronto-based wines and spirits agency which owns several Canadian award-winning wineries.

Dan Aykroyd has found a way to share his passion for great wine and his affinity for entertaining by creating a portfolio of new and exciting world-class tasting wines that people can proudly serve at their tables.

-----------------------------------------------------------

www.danaykroydwines.com - This is no joke, people. The wines are said to be very good!

Note: Aykroyd credits former Blues Brothers guitarist Steve Cropper (Booker T & MGs/STAX fame) with introducing him to the many wonders of the fermented grape. Who knew a Tennessee country boy like Cropper could have such a far reaching impact on the typically snobby wine industry? Good work!

Wait and see ^^

Dear Mr. Robin Williams,

We here at If I Blog It They WIll Come are currently immersed in the wonderful read that is Live From New York: An Uncensored History of Saturday Night Live. We haven't made it very far just yet, but yesterday we happened upon an interview bite from our favorite comedian/actor/best supporting actor Oscar-winner (we're referring to you of course) on page 112 in which you discuss your first experience at the fabled after-show Blues Bar and how Dan Aykroyd tempered your reluctance to enter by assuring you that there were "amazing people" and "wonderful music" if you would just "step inside".

Well, Mr. Williams, even though thirty years have passed it seems that once again you've found yourself in a similar situation. We here at If I Blog It They Will Come fancy our blog somewhat of the Saturday Night Live Blues Bar of the Internet. We're making wonderful music in the way that we think of each successive post as a beautiful blues melody, a blues melody that cries "Robin Williams ain't done been to our blog and we don't know where he's been. We wish we had a picture of him looking at our blog so we could put down this bottle of gin."

Now if only we could be as persuasive as the venerable Mr. Aykroyd was back in the 1970's so you might feel the need to "step inside" and acquaint yourself with the "amazing people" that put the hard work into this blog. Would it help if we told you that in the looks department we've been compared to John Belushi? In any case, if you should feel even the slightest inkling to join us by sending a photo of yourself looking at our blog to djayek@yahoo.com, know that we would be delighted to have you.

Much wackiness ensues. Art it ain't, but this likably lightweight film does deliver the laughs, with assured leading performances (for once, Kim Basinger's formica loveliness is utilized as an effective comedic asset), a surprisingly bawdy sense of humor, and a riotous supporting turn by a then dewy-fresh Jon Lovitz.

[caption id="" align="aligncenter" width="431" caption="1949 - 1982"][/caption]

The Blues Brothers: Briefcase Full of Blues.
