Orang pertama yang menjadi sasaran interogasi saya adalah editor kami. Setelah ditelusuri ternyata editor beralasan bahawa dia mengerjakan order sesuai permintaan klien. Menurutnya, beberapa hari yang lalu sudah sempat diusulkan ke team sales yang menghandle client tersebut agar redaksional iklan tersebut dirubah. Tapi hasilnya negatif. Editor gagal mendapatkan ijin dari client - dimana dalam kasus ini dimediasi oleh team sales - untuk merubah naskah iklan itu. Entah karena personil sales yang enggan bermasalah lebih lanjut dengan client karena sibuk atau takut kehilangan order. Bisa jadi karena kurangnya pemahaman adanya kesalahan yang bisa berakibatkan fatal jika iklan itu disiarkan terus menerus dan berulang-ulang di radio.

Interogasi saya lanjutkan ke personil sales yang memegang client tersebut. Akhirnya saya mendapat pengakuan bahwa ternyata, pada saat materi iklan itu diterima malam sebelumnya, isi dari naskah iklan tersebut tidak di cek terlebih dahulu oleh personil sales tersebut dan langsung diberikannya kepada bagian produksi. Dan saat mendapat koreksi dari editor, mungkin karena tidak mau repot, si sales menjawab "sudahlah, kerjakan saja karena itu maunya client"

Sikap menggampangkan, malas dan tidak mau repot dari sales person inilah yang justru menimbulkan masalah. Sebenarnya, apa yang perlu dilakukan oleh seorang sales person agar dia bisa bekerja lebih sempurna?

Memahami product knowledge client

Pemahaman atas produk client sangat berguna sebagai masukan untuk bagian produksi yang akan membuat materi promosi. Sales person harus menyadari dengan baik bahwa dirinyalah mediator antara radio kita dengan client. Untuk itu, sales person perlu untuk mencari tahu seluk beluk dari produk yang akan dipromosikan, baik melalui tanya jawab dengan client atau dari brosur hingga internet. Semakin lengkap data yang dikumpulkan, akan semakin membantu bagian produksi. Ibarat restoran, sales person bertugas untuk mengumpulkan bahan baku masakan, sedangkan bagian produksi adalah koki yang akan mengolah bahan baku jadi menu masakan yang istimewa.

Memahami target market dan keinginan client

Dengan mengetahui target market dan keinginan client, kita bisa memberikan ide atau saran seputar bentuk promosi, jam siar atau acara yang cocok untuk client tersebut. Jangan sampai terjadi, misalnya: iklan klien dengan target market middle low dipasang di acara dengan target audience middle up. Dalam diskusi dengan client, seorang sales person harus berani mengemukakan pendapat dan mengarahkan client dengan benar. Hal ini dilakukan demi keberhasilan promosi yang akan dilakukan oleh client kita. Bagaimanapun juga, sebagai orang radio, kita lebih memahami seluk beluk keradioan dibandingkan dengan client kita. Bagaimana jika client sudah memiliki materi promosinya sendiri? Seorang sales person harus mengetahui isi materi promosi yang dikirimkan oleh klien. Lakukan pengecekan dengan mendengarkan atau membaca materi promosi yang dikirimkan oleh client. Ingat, tugas sales person tidak berhenti hanya pada saat menerima order iklan, tapi dia juga harus ikut memperhatikan isi promosi hingga memastikan order iklan tersebut tereksekusi dengan benar demi kepuasan client.

Ciptakan komunikasi yang baik

Komunikasi yang baik sedianya terjadi tidak hanya antara client dan sales person, tapi juga antara sales person dengan bagian produksi. Jika diperlukan, tidak ada salahnya sales person mempertemukan bagian produksi dengan client. Sales person harus benar-benar memahami apa mau client dan menyampaikannya dengan benar ke bagian produksi. Sebaliknya jika ternyata ada problem dari bagian produksi, seperti contoh diatas, sales person harus bisa menyampaikan, menjelaskan dan memberi masukan yang baik kepada client. Team produksi bukan sparring partner team sales! Hilangkan paradigma yang salah itu karena kita adalah satu kesatuan team kerja yang utuh!

Seorang sales person bukanlah tukang pos yang bertugas menghantarkan order iklan ke bagian produksi atau siaran. Dengan menjalankan (minimal) 3 poin di atas, materi iklan dari client yang kurang tepat - dalam contoh kasus diatas bahkan tergolong rawan, dimana tanpa disadari ada point membandingkan agama dengan produk - bisa diperbaiki sejak dini melalui diskusi yang efektif antara team penjualan dengan client.

IXR XML-RPC Library adalah library yang 'tinggal pakai' untuk developer PHP. Mengapa saya pilih IXR? Karena blog kesayangan saya, Wordpress, pakai IXR. Sebenarnya masih ada beberapa pilihan lain, tetapi saya pikir IXR adalah yang paling sederhana. Hanya 1 file, sudah termasuk library untuk client maupun server.

1. Langkah pertama, saya download file IXR_Library.inc.php.txt.
2. Saya hilangkan ekstensi .txt, sehingga yang tersisa IXR_Library.inc.php
3. Saya siapkan database yang diperlukan
4. Saya tulis script XML-RPC server dengan nama index.php
5. Saya tulis script XML-RPC client dengan nama client.php
6. Kedua file tersebut saya taruh di direktori CherriServer di dalam htdocs apache
7. Saya test pakai firefox, berhasil!

I've decided to transition my blog from Recruitingblogs.Com (which is really intended for the sharing of best practices and social networking WITHIN the recruiting community) to this blog, which will be more directed to those I care most about communicating with:  My Clients and Candidates.

I will probably continue to blog some at that location when it's relevant to my peers (such as my 12 rules of recruiting success).

My expertise really focuses in one area with two applications:  I specialize in the employment process. 

From a candidate (or jobseeker) perspective, this means I am an expert on all the individual factors that go into getting the Holy Grail; the Job Offer.  And believe it or not there are a LOT of little steps that all require a "Win" for that to happen - from finding the right opportuity, to presenting your credentials correctly, to making the right impression and negotiating the right package - there are well over 80 minor events that have to combine successfully in the process to create a successful outcome.

From a client perspective, that means I am an expert at understanding and implementing the search process (not your job, industry or company), designing and implementing a campaign and one last thing that tends to make me stand out from my competition:  I understand retention.

Every recruiter I have ever trained comes away with an understanding of retention.  It is very uncommon in my industry (3rd party staff augmentation) to make any kind of effort to understanding retention, frankly, beacause it's viewed as being bad for business.  But how many times does a company really want to pay a fee for backfilling the same position?  Along with this, I provide free training for my client companies to help them "recruiter-proof" their organization - a great first step to increasing retention and reducing attrition.  This kind of value-added service is why my client's consider me a trusted partner rather than just another recruiter wasting their time, and this relationship helps both me and my candidates.

So, I hope readers of this blog find some value in my words - whether you are actively seeking a new position, being represented by me, one of my client companies (or considering becoming one) or even a potential employee wanting to learn the philosophy behind my madness, I will try to deliver value for your time investment.  The employment process doesn't have to be harrowing and frustrating (although harrowing and frustrating things, sadly, do happen sometimes) because we can minimize the possibility of those types of things happening by adhering to a simple but effective process.

Yes.. this will trigger whatever the spammers/hackers are using to verify receipt (such as downloading an invisible jpeg). Because of this, I always turn the Preview Pane off.
To do this in OE, click on the View menu and select Layout.
Then in the Preview Pane Properties, uncheck the "Show preview pane" checkbox.

BTW-- by exploring Properties/Options/Settings/Preferences (different names for the same thing), you can disable the preview pane in every e-mail viewer.. Hotmail, Thunderbird, etc.

Tip of the day: While many people find the preview window a convenient way to skim their incoming mail, using it automatically opens your machine up to security risks (especially if you are allowing HTML, and/or images, as the OE pictured above does) and tells anyone who's interested that yes, your.name@isp.com is a valid address.. suitable for spamming.
I advise disabling the feature, and doing without the 'speed enhancement' of previewing. Doing so will reduce the amount of spam you receive, and close the door on one of the methods hackers can use to infect your machine.

     First, we have to acknowledge that realtors get paid by commission. It is their job and they are entitled to it.  Money is used as a means to pay for goods and services rendered and your realtor has an implicit obligation to render you the best service possible.  A good realtor will look after your interests, and this means more than giving you a ballpark estimate on where your offer should come in based on the previous sales in the area you are looking to buy. It also means that he or she will make sure that there are no loose ends in your transaction.  Actually, this process is so fascinating in it's intricacies.

     Your Realtor® is a professional. He or she knows the market and can make recommendations to you, but keep in mind that one who looks after your interest will only recommend something that is in line with your expectations. Also, keep in mind that you always have the final decision.

     Because the realtors work very closely with each other, you will find that he or she may call you before a property is listed on the Multiple Listing Services. Since they are always in contact with each other, the listing agents often call their other associates on properties that will be listed within a day or so.  Consider this your preview of the coming attraction. You could be the first person to view the property once it is listed.

     If the property is for sale by owner, your realtor makes it easier for you to see the property by setting up the appointment for you and being with you when you visit it.  Selling, by anyone, is always an emotional process.  The presence of a realtor creates an impartial ground between you and the seller.

     Once you have decided to buy the property, your realtor is responsible for negotiating the price with the listing agent. Keep in mind that your realtor may suggest but you ultimately decide on whethery to buy or not. Once the contract is signed, your realtor makes sure that the process goes smoothly until the time of closing.

     One final point. A good realtor will not be mad at you if after all that she or he has done you decide you do not want to proceed to closing at all.  You are after all the client. He or she may not get the commission for that deal, but keeping you as a client who, in the future, with his or her help, can and will buy more properties is more important.  A long term relationship is better than one deal that did not go through.

     Your realtor is key to your success as an investor, but just like a doctor, you have to be very comfortable working with him or her. He or she is, after all, one of your partners in building your portfolio.

But does social networking actually offer a measurable return on marketing investment for business? Does it help build brand equity? Should CEOs invest in 'the long tail' of niche products or, after reading this excellent article in the 'schools out for summer' edition of the HBR, should they continue to focus on a blockbuster approach? • Client list with brands I've never heard of (because if you are good at what you do...)
• Acting like mass media is dead
