Ma comrade, Phreaker, has been getting lots of messages about when the chapter will be out so I shall talk a bit about it today.

We found out that only half of it was translated (Damn those translators,grrr ), so we had to get the rest of it translated too. We could leave it like that but we figured that someone wanted the rest of it too. ;)

Like Phreaker said before he is quite busy and when not busy when he is lazy, oh it rhymes. When he is not both he is doing his best...yes english is a hard language to translate to for some people (even I fail at it sometimes :o shocking but true).

Anyways, even in his business and laziness we are trying to whip and get as much juice (pages) out of him as we can while the editor is drinking the juice (editing the pages) he gets. So relax it will be out soon...err...before this week is over..hmm.....wait lets make it the month. :P

If you want faster releases, send some translators to us who wants to do City Hunter. Let him be japanese, chinese, french or indonesien...we got raws for all those. If not then we can only work at the speed our only translator is working at and you all know what speed that is. kekekeke >:D

PS: The other projects? Well, after City Hunter ch 32 we shall get them. Yes my fault because I want them out after City Hunter...rawwrrr, sue me :P

Rupanya pagi tadi kejadian terulang, mulai dari ajakan teman untuk nonton bareng (sorry ya, Neng Yuni, kali ini gak bisa…ihik..ihik), datang ke akad nikah teman, hingga Ryan yang tiba-tiba nelp untuk ngajak makan di Camp Steak Tebet yang banyak dikunjungi dara belia kalo wiken. Ternyata nih bocah gak tahan juga diem di rumah. Atau gak tahan sama cerita saya tentang banyaknya anak-anak sekolah yang makan disana? Hehehe…

Tapi dari berbagai macam ‘tuntutan’ tersebut, yang paling saya seriusin adalah jalan ke mangga dua mal yang sebenarnya merupakan ‘sumpah’ saya di wiken-wiken sebelumnya untuk beli cartridge Gameboy Advance yang baru. ‘Sumpah’ ini terlontar karena saya mulai bosan setiap hari saya hanya ditemani oleh games Naruto : Ninja Council yang sudah saya kelarin game-nya dalam waktu satu hari hehehe…

Maka, jadilah saya tepat pukul 4 sore, setelah sholat Azhar meluncur dengan mio kesayangan menuju mal yang digandrungi para penggila teknologi dan para relasinya. Dengan kecepatan rata-rata 60 km per jam, tak perlu waktu lebih dari 30 menit bagi saya untuk sampai di mal ini dari rumah saya yang mungkin hanya berjarak sekitar 30 km.

Sesampai disana saya baru ingat *Aah, shit…bukannya gue hari ini mestinya beresin kamar?* saya menyalahi diri dalam hati. Tapi berhubung acara nego harga cartridge antara saya dengan si mbak-mbak yang cengangas-cengenges gak karuan berlangsung seru, jadi ingatan saya kembali lupa. Malah, setelah beli cartridge Peter Jackson’s Kingkong dan Mario Bros Advance 3, saya kembali memburu toko yang menjual kartu perdana Mobilqu untuk ngenet yang katanya murah. Karena masih ragu sama kecepatan browsing-nya, saya yang tadinya udah ngebet pengen beli yang pake unlimited internet sepuasan, jadi beli paket 35 jam ngenet aja dulu. Setelah itu saya langsung cabut pulang.

Sesampai di rumah, saya baru inget kalo saya melupakan ‘sumpah’ saya ketika melihat kondisi kamar yang amburadul. Tapi karena penasaran ingin mencoba games yang barusan saya beli, lagi-lagi saya lupa sama ‘sumpah’ itu. Saya malah bikin ‘sumpah’ baru bakal bersihin kamar besok aja. Jadi, selama saya mengetik kata-kata gak penting ini, kondisi kamar saya layaknya kamar yang lebih dari satu bulan gak terurus: kasur yang spreinya bercampur dengan baju kotor, kolong meja kecil yang dipenuhi berbagai macam kabel-kabel dan adaptor, hamparan berbagai press release yang belum sempat saya garap, hingga tumbukan celana dan alat sholat di atas kabinet.

Padahal, waktu pertama kali bokap nyokap pengen ngebangun kamar ini sekitar 6 bulan lalu, saya ‘bersumpah’ kepada mereka bakal menjaga kamar ini baik dari segi kebersihan maupun komitmen untuk gak simpan barang yang aneh-aneh, termasuk menyusupkan perempuan ke dalam. Kayaknya sih, cuma sumpah ke-2 dan ke-3 aja yang saya jalanin hehehe…

Oh ya, sejam tadi kepala sampe pusing setting koneksi internet Mobilequ pake HP LG KU-380 yang biasa dipake buat ngenet akses internet via indosat.3g. Padahal udah ikutan ketentuan yang ada di situsnya Quasar. Berhubung kepala mabok gak kepalang, saya akhirnya kembali menggunakan kartu mentari atau modem CDMA (super lemots) saya untuk posting blog ini. Urusan setting bakal saya lanjutkan besok saja (lagi-lagi ‘bersumpah’….).

Jadi, sekian dulu tentang saya hari ini yang kebanyakan menumpukin ‘sumpah’. Berhubung mata belum ngantuk, sepertinya saya bakal mengisi malam ini dengan nonton DVD City Hunter (complete season 2) kalo gak Goggle V, yang saya beli sejak 4 minggu lalu di Glodok tapi baru beberapa keping saja yang saya sempatkan menonton.

Dr. Slump

The series I labeled as my starting point in anime. But then compared to the four following titles. I grow fuzzy on remember which I started to watch first. I certainly watched the VHS tape for this series the most though. The manga is currently available from Shonen Jump and I just got the 15th volume, so I am collecting the entire English manga. I contemplate on purchasing the series in Japanese actually. Since my friend is this summer going to go to Japan. I am sending her on the almighty important task of finding and possibly collecting the series for me. I placed a video of the theme song with the look of Arale having purple hair and the Gatchans having green hair unlike the 90's version of brown and yellow hairs.

Kinnikuman

My sister loved this series more than I did. I loved the song, but thought the anime was rather strange. As an adult. I think I could find some humor in it. At that time and up to now, I didn't find humor in looking at a man with red briefs. Still I never realized how lucky we were back then.. nudity and cross dressing was shown prominently, with not that much censorship I believe.. hehe... FYI... I believe this is the story arc of the father of Ultimate Muscle.

Ninja Hattori-kun

I loved this series, well I am sorry to say, but I didn't grow up with Doremon, rather my earliest memory of Doremon was in the form of a cassette cover. I didn't know there was even cartoons until I was around ten or eleven. I was also very happy when recently I got to see the Shingo Katori's version of Ninja Hattori-kun. Still I am kinda surprised by the opening, well not use to the singer. I saw this opening in Chinese and I can still remember the melody of how that tune goes.

Umi no Triton

I am actually deliriously ecstatic for finding this series again. This is one anime that I grew up watching and tried to emulate. I thought it was so cool that Triton was able to ride the dolphin like that and breath underwater. Also cannot forget about the talking sea creatures.. (sighs). I never knew the Japanese name of this series, so when I was trying to find the Japanese name, i was thinking it was the Chinese name which is translated as.. Water Strong Youth. But then I thought some more and thought it has to be Umi Senshi.. which that didn't work, because of all the Sailor Neptune links I found via Google. Still I persisted and typed in "1980's," "umi no senshi" and found forums to names with Umi no... and 1972. I never realized that this series was that old. Still this is like the only anime my mom had identified as loving the story of.. so I am going to be in the market to locate this anime series of 27 episodes. ^_^
Voltron

I had action figures from this anime. Well I remember having the black main body, the blue and yellow lion/feet. The arms I remember not having. In my book this is the predecessor to Power Rangers. Animated of course.. everything else can just take a hike, well.. that's my opinion. I placed two videos because I remember the opening and the transformation sequence vividly. I am quite happy to see this. During the time I was growing up, I was very influenced by shonen genre anime as you can imagine. So it wans't until Sailor Moon and Magical Flying Pig Boorin that I actually realized that there were female targeted anime.

Kaze no Tani no Naushika

What can I say about this masterpiece. This is one of my first Miyazaki films and even up to this day. This remains one of my all time favorite anime. This is a scene from the ending of the movie, as I am well aware that many people have seen already. But the ending didn't have the song version I grew up with (in Chinese), so this will have to do. Simply pure masterpiece. I highly anticipate Ponyo on the Cliff that is coming out this year in Japan. I need to do a top favorite female, male, mascot entry one of these days.

City Hunter .357 Magnum

This was my first introduction to City Hunter. I listen to the opening and ending constantly on my iPod as well as admire Kaori with her mallet skills. This was anime to my first anime crush. Seems weird, but I love Umibozu and actually my ex reminded me of Umibozu's height. It was also the first anime my mom raised objections to, because there were scenes of being in underwear and going into the bathroom, where Ryo offers for the female pianist to rub her back, while they enjoy a lover's bath. Following the example of Kaori, I was at the age where I thought that all boys were germs and pipsqueaks. Perhaps five - six years of age was too young to see City Hunter. Unfortunately my mom fell into the trap of seeing anything that was cartoon as being suitable for kids.

Is this a bad list of animes to watch.. I don't believe so.. it shaped my habits. Still I am gratfteful for this memory walk.

One of my undergrad years favorite.. I love how every cast member had an image in the ending when normally for a lot of endings.. there's no image of the cast. The song is also really upbeat about lovers.

Sailor Stars ED

One of my teen year's favorite anime series.. I cried when I saw this ending song.. I love the picture of Usagi and wished there was an actual jigsaw puzzle of the image. I remember fighting tooth and nail for the collecting card of this picture. Still I have so many favorite songs from that anime, quite hard to choose.

Naruto - Parade

OMG.. I loved this song from the moment I heard it. I loved how the mixture of Japanese and Western instruments combined and so this song gets A++ from me.

One Piece - Memories

The ending that got me stated on this long exodus on loving this series. I keep on dreaming of a remake for this ending including with the shadows of new cast crew.. well Chopper, Robin, Franky and Brooks.

Bartender ED

I love how soothing/Jazzy this ending was. I wished there was more of a fan base for this series, or at least it appears that more people spoke about this anime. This was an adult anime, with each episode speaking about one different alcoholic drinks recommended by the Bartender for the customer. Every ending was different with the bartender making the episode's theme beverage.

Bleach - My Pace

This ending is so cute with the various plushies singing and I love the message of the song. Very friend connection.

City Hunter Magnum Movie ED

Sexy ending.. this I watched from when I was five years and it stayed with me for years as something I loved of the series. Very 80's-90's sound... indicates a little on how long I have been watching anime.

Dragon Ball GT- 2nd ED

Okay the GT series may have had a bad rep and is not as good as the rest of the series.. but what got me was the group unity in this song as well as the transition.. a fitting conclusion to a long anime. I was sadden when I realized that the female singer has passed away.

Gravitation - Glaring Dream

I loved how the anime images was layered with the highway and thought at the time that it was a pretty new anime concept.

Irresponsible Captain Tylor - Downtown Dance

I don't know why, but when I first watch this ending, Tylor was shown with his crew drinking at a pool party and toasting a naked pin up, but apparently the English release of the anime thought that was too racy, so changed it to this ending of him walking. Still when I heard this anime, my mind subconsciously wants to toast and drink something alcoholic.

Karin - ED

I always thought this was an upbeat ending.. with a sweet ending and message. Vampire anime had always had a place on my list of things to see, so I was really surprised by the premises of this anime.

Nodame Cantabile ED
Concert Version

I first watched this series in live action and then I watched as the anime came out. I can say that this is one of the few J-pop singer crossing over into anime of which I love. I thought that this song as well as with the ending always gave an optimistic and natural view of Nodame's love toward Chiaki-sempai. That there are trails, but true love will blaze the way. This is still one of my current favorite anime and live action.. what else can I say?

Yu Yu Hakusho 2nd ED

This was my favorite song during the climax of my obsessions with this series. This is the series alongside Sailor Moon that started it all for me..fandom, fanfiction, bl..

Shamanic Princess - Kaze no Matsuri

This song was the first anime I got into during High School.. after a stint of staying away from anime and so this marks a passage back into loving anime. I love the full version of the song.. with the beats and rhythm.

So concludes my list of favorite anime endings.. I wonder if I'll remember any more endings that I love? Perhaps..

It's an old one, but the last time I check, there are not many scanlation groups who has release all the volumes.

The story is about Ryo Saeba, a perverted guard. Well, officially he's a professional "sweeper" bodyguard. Together with Kaori, his partner, they solve many cases. Despite of his hobby, he--sometimes--is dependable. He's good at shooting and talking, especially to women. He's not bad looking anyway. n_n

The series end in volume 8.

I mean, what more can you expect? A private detective, got his way around with women, carefree person, good with guns, using a revolver type one, befriends with some "cross-dresser", living in an apartment, have an old smart, but a bit perverted, doctor as a friend, have a wide connection in underground world, etc.

Sebenernya kalo mau di-analogi-kan lagi, inget nggak kalo Ryo itu, in some ways, nggak bisa macem-macem ke Kaori? Same goes here, Shu (main character) nggak bisa "nyentuh" cewek yang dia tulung karena langsung menimbulkan luka bakar di tangannya. Hehehe.

Dan another "coincidence" adalah, the gang actually named the woman, SARA. Hahaha. Remember? The song in City Hunter?

Tapi ya, nggak apa-apa lah. Buat tontonan ini. Hehehe.

Bagi penggemar komik dewasa, City Hunter mungkin bukanlah bacaan yg langka. Sekitar akhir 90an komik ini sempat booming di kalangan pembaca komik. Meski banyak memuat gambar seksi dan ketelanjangan, tapi dari sisi cerita City Hunter merupakan bacaan yg menghibur dan jenaka. Saya ingat ketika itu masih duduk di bangku SMP, sempet bela-belain irit jajan cuma hanya membeli komik ini. Nah, dikarenakan saya memang kurang rajin menabung, akhirnya saya cuma bisa pinjam2 edisi terbarunya dari seorang teman yg sangat fanatik dgn Ryo Saeba, tokoh dalam komik ini yg jago nembak, bela diri, ganteng, tapi sayangnya berotak mesum.

Tapi siapa sangka di balik kemesumannya ini ternyata sosok Ryo sangat beradab sekali. Dia gak bakal mau menjual dirinya ke dalam kejahatan. Dia menjadi semacam detektif hanya untuk membantu orang, meskipun terkadang klien yg dia pilih harus cantik dan seksi. Sepak terjangnya dgn partnernya yg galak dan posesif, Kaori, cukup menggelitik. Apalagi dalam cara menangani kasus kejahatan sangat tidak biasa. Nah, meski komik ini bisa dibilang komik dewasa yg menawarkan cerita detektif, tapi jangan menyangka pembaca bakal dijejali cerita investigasi yg berat. Jika dibandingkan komik Detektif Conan, cerita City Hunter justru lebih "kekanak2an".

Gemerlap film Hongkong pun pernah mengangkatnya ke dalam sebuah film dengan pemeran utama Jacky Chan dan beberapa bintang besar lainnya. Meski secara fisik Jacky Chan jauh dari tokoh komiknya, tetap saja saya tidak bosan2nya menyaksikan film ini. Bahkan sekarang pun jika ditayangkan kembali oleh salah satu stasiun TV, saya menyempatkan diri utk menontonnya.
Sekalipun sekarang ini di rumah saya sudah tidak ada satu pun seri dari komik tersebut--hilang karena dipinjam, kena banjir, dsb--saya masih menyimpan beberapa ceritanya di dalam otak saya. Toh akhirnya sebuah nostalgia saya alami ketika minggu lalu mampir ke Pinangsia Plaza, Glodok utk membeli beberapa kebutuhan komputer. Di jejeran counter penjaja DVD bajakan, saya melihat "bundel" DVD City Hunter. Satu bundel berisi 6 CD dengan harga 30 ribu rupiah.

Dengan hati senang saya melenggang pulang dan langsung menyetel DVD itu. Tapi.......ternyata film kartun City Hunter tidak sesuai dengan ekspetasi saya. Tadinya saya berharap kartun ini lebih seksi dan hidup. Nyatanya, beberapa adegan yang sedikit ngeres dihilangkan di versi kartunnya ini. Begitupun dengan gambar yg masih kaku. Ini benar2 kealpaan saya, karena City Hunter merupakan kartun yg diproduk pada tahun 1987. Jadi sangat jelas dari kualitas animasi jauh dari ekpetasi saya. Meskipun begitu, untungnya dari sisi cerita versi kartunnya tidak jauh berbeda dengan komik. Saya pun bisa bernostalgia dengan klimaksnya....

This is part one of my "shounen cliche" series. I already have Action Shounen and Shounen Romance, and I'm thinking of writing about Shounen Sports too.

I usually say shounen crap here, shounen crap there, just for the sake of argument, though I read some myself. (yes, I don't watch) It's just that I really don't like those rabid fangirls that squeals here and squeal there saying <insert character here> is uber cool, not knowing why <this character> is cool and not even knowing what "uber" means.

Most of the anime/manga fans grew up with Dragonball or <insert action shounen series here> so, we all have "shounen action fan" blood with us.

But, most of current series are merely DBZ iterations or follows the DBZ formula or basic shounen anime rules. they just change the setting to ninjas, exorcists, basketball players, boxers etc.

I'm really not sure who set up the standards in action shounen, though in every angle it's pretty much DragonBall.

So it turns out that Naruto is Goku that became a ninja and instead of his hair turning blond, (hey, his hair's yellow in the first place) he grows tails instead, and BLEACH is just a fashionable DragonBall with swords, youkai instead of alien monkeys and random mexican terms.

Note that older action shounen series deviate from these rules btw. Most of them just follows a common enemy throughout the series, and instead of arcs, it is divided into generations. (sons, grandsons etc.) Jojo's Bizarre Adventure and Hokuto no Ken are examples. While others are in one goal per one or two episode format like City Hunter or Detective Conan. But old action shounen series can be classified as seinen this days due to their graphic nature. (Though some still mistake seinen series as shounen like Cowboy Bebop). So, how do we quickly differentiate Shonen and Seinen? Both has fanservice right? and of course boob shots in onsen or bath episodes.. check the boobs, if it has nipples it's seinen, if there's none it's shonen.

Extra note: older series tend to do the one story per 1~3 episode format and does one big arc (4~up episode) as season/series enders.

Here are the rules I compiled, not entirely complete, but I guess most of it catches the basics. I provided examples from modern shounen series so that you can visualize it.

Another note: I increased my Shounen knowledge during my break and read a lot of popular and uncommon titles as well.

Moar notes: you must hate me for having lotsa notes.. but it looks like my layout is screwed in Firefox and IE. (I use Opera lol) some words are hidden in the background. If a sentence doesn't make sense, there are usually words hiding on the far right though some are grammatical errors.

Characters

Main Character

There are actually two types of main character, the effin emo guy with a bad past, and the cheery guy that is actually a genius at being an idiot, or both.

Hmm let see... emo guy could be Bleach's Ichigo Kurosaki (haha) and cheery guy.. (there's a lot) maybe i'll pick Fairy Tail's Natsu Dragonil

Well, either ways... they all look like wusses, has gravity-defying hairstlye (most, but not all.. like D.GrayMan's Allen Walker), and their godlike powers are usually inborn. (inborn... DBZ's Goku duh)

Other Characters (Traits)

There are different types of characters in the main guy's party and it's usually made up of at least 4 members

1. Bestfriend/Rival

This guy is usually on par with the main character in terms of superpowers, and he is usually the opposite of the main guy. for example, if main guy is cheery, this guy has a bad past. if main guy is an idiot, this one is a genius. Notable examples, Nartuo's Sasuke and hmm... let's see... Shaman King's Ren Tao

2. Potential Girlfriend

The main guy's love interest, useful in battle... as bait. Well, not most of the time as some can fight too like MÄR's Snow or Bleach's Rukia.

3. an Idiot

When the main character is not the idiot someone has to take it's place. Good for cleaning up small fry and sometimes useful in big fights. An example is Yu Yu Hakusho's Kuwabara.

4. a trap

Since shounen action is aimed for boys, creators usually pit in some traps for girls to whore on. "Moneymaking technique" in short. notable examples are Yu Yu Hakusho's Kurama and Flame of Recca's Tokiya Mikagami.

5. Musclebound character

Can be combined with the idiot trait, and his role is usually the same with the idiot character

6. fanservice character

If there's another girl in the party she's usually the fanservice character, not good at fighting and not good at everything except having big boobs (well, not most of the time..) the only thing she's good at is getting captured like Bleach's Inoue Orihime.

Though there are fanservice characters that has a lot of contributions in the party and in the story, for instance, MÄR's Dorothy, Flame of Recca's Fūko Kirisawa and not to forget DBZ's Bulma (yeah, she's a fanservice character)

Villains

Big Boss (the series ender, not arc ender)

The big boss is, unfortunately the main guy's relative, (father, brother, mother, etc) or his Bestfriend/Rival turned evil. example? Nartuo, duh or MÄR

Smiling Guys

smiling guys, are smiling... haha either foe or friend... they're effin dangerous. mostly second in power rating of the arc boss... like Rurouni Kenshin's Soujiro Seta

Arc Bosses

Arc bosses, are pretty strong at his arc but when he becomes yer ally, the writers decides to nerf 'em.

Plot / Storyline

1. New Arc, New Enemy, New Power, New Transformation Lather, Rinse, Repeat

After the main character was beaten helplessly in the arcs transition phase, he usually trains for a few frames. Regarding New Transformations... remember Shaman King where their Power Spirits became weapons, then mechs, then smaller, stronger weapons? or how about Bleach's Bankai for newer fans.

2. Yesterday's enemies are tomorrow's allies

So, why not "TODAY"? Yesterday's enemies usually come back in another arc as allies. An example is Gaara's crew coming back in Sasuke's arc to help and of course, Piccolo and Vegeta from DBZ. In Jojo's Bizarre Adventure's "Diamond is Unbreakable" arc, Josuke made around 60% of the villains (from start to end) into his allies

3. You can usually find ladderized fights or tournaments

Every action shounen anime features a tournament arc. Notable examples are Dragonball's YuYu Hakusho's and Flame of Recca's. If a fighting tournament is not present, we can find ladderized fights, where the main character must go through different levels of people before reaching the big boss, such as BLEACH's Soul Society Arc.

This is where the main character usually find allies, therefore the previous rule applies.

There ARE special cases too, cooking tournament anyone? yes Cooking Master Boy falls under shounen category too, not to mention he gained a lot of allies throughout his cooking battles.

4. Sudden release of hidden power

Ok, we got a new arc and new power, and prolly some new transformations too. But, in the end we got beat up. So what do we do? NEW HIDDEN POWER

5. Flashback Arcs

Usually the mangaka's scapegoat when he/she runs out of materials. Flashback arcs are usually found before a big arc, or when the series is nearing its end.

Simple, a gay bishie emo trap character. Not necessarily the main hero, he can be the hero's rival or some underling or even the main antagonist.

Shounen Series usually spans up to forever

A Series usually dies if the creator doesn't get more money from rabid fanboys (and girls). there are old ones still running though, like Jojo's Bizarre Adventure that spanned for 7 Generations of Jojo (well, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure can be considered under the seinen genre these days).
