In general, I guess I would consider myself a skeptic, but I think there is an important distinction

In general, I guess I would consider myself a skeptic, but I think there is an important distinction. At the very least I shy away from labelling myself as one, because it makes it very easy for others to ignore my views if I'm just a 'close-minded skeptic'. Just as easy as it is for us skeptics to dismiss someone's view the minute they're labelled a conspiracy theorist, or a Christian scientist (although there is nothing wrong with this, as long as you don't try to prove Noah's Flood with the grand canyon or anything). Let us just say that up until now everything I have been made aware of that could be described as supernatural, extraterrestrial or spiritual has left me feeling unconvinced, but I'm very open to someone changing my mind.

Whilst I remain unconvinced, I have a great interest in U.F.O.s, ghosts, bigfoot and the like. I would love to see them proven, it would be very exciting. My favourite recently are Nephilim (although the photoes shown are from a photoshop contest site, I have seen them bandied about on various conspiracy sites too...well, who can blame them, they are awesome looking photoshops!).

Despite being proud of what I see as a healthy skepticism, this site has set my teeth on edge. Whilst I agree with almost every argument on here, and I think the writer of this comic is probably a very intelligent and sensible person, his comics seem close to a straw man argument. I can't quite claim that they are the textbook definition of straw man, because there are certainly people who believe everything stated, but it has always seemed unfair to me to portray debate in this way. The portrayal of religious and paranormal believers is as naive morons with absolutely no capacity to argue. It kind of feels like a comic I might write when I've just had an argument with a Fundamental Christian and am still feeling very angry.

It reminds me an awful lot of the way Chick Cartoons conduct their business - to open the debate by insulting the other party (although Chick Cartoons is in another league...I'm not going to write a blog about that because I'd probably have to do it all in caps...).

Also, the occasional comic seems to criticise agnostics, which seems a little bemusing to me.

Also, it's not very funny. Comics on a narrow subject such as this tend not to be.

edit: I take it back. Cectic is funny. This isn't funny.

Go down to Cectic and read away. All the comics are excellent. Also, EDTheFuture.com does exist, unlike evidence for Parentism... :)
