Sam Worthington, who is currently starring alongside The Dark Knight’s Christian Bale in Terminato

Sam Worthington, who is currently starring alongside The Dark Knight’s Christian Bale in Terminator Salvation now shooting in the US, has told the producers he is keen to be considered for a major role in the Bruce Beresford directed film about the seminal conflict of the Vietnam War – the Battle of Long Tan. ”

[caption id="attachment_17" align="alignright" width="300" caption="Sam Worthington"][/caption]

“I believe Long Tan to be a very important story to tell. It's a true tale that touched me so much, especially when I had the privilege of meeting the soldiers two years ago,” said Worthington in a message to the Battle of Long Tan producers, Sydney-based Red Dune Films and Beverly Hills, California-based partner Brainstorm Media.

Worthington, who recently completed a starring role in James Cameron’s Avatar, narrated the award-winning documentary on Long Tan produced by Martin Walsh, of Red Dune Films, for the History Channel’s 40th anniversary of the battle in 2006.

Walsh has been developing a feature version of the story since 2004.

“On the 42nd Anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, Red Dune Films and Brainstorm Media are delighted that the long overdue acknowledgement of the gallantry shown by D Company 6RAR has coincided with receipt of an outstanding screenplay from writers Bruce Beresford and Justin Monjo, which will bring the remarkable story of the 108 men of D Company to the big screen,” said Walsh.

[caption id="attachment_18" align="alignleft" width="300" caption="Christian Bale and Sam Worthington in Terminator Salvation"][/caption]

“Bruce and Justin have captured all the drama of the battle and the extraordinary real life characters who fought in it, and have given us the tools we need to attract a dream ensemble cast and financing for our feature film.”

Producing the film with Walsh is Charles Hannah, a US-based Australian with 14 feature film credits, including the criticaly acclaimed and box office success, World’s Fastest Indian, which starred Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins. Hannah brokered the deal between Red Dune and Brainstorm Media. Brainstorm Media’s Meyer Shwarzstein is executive producing along with Peter Wetherell, President of Magus Entertainment.

The producers aim to commence production by mid 2009, with Queensland as the most likely location for the Australian base in Nui Dat and the nearby rubber plantation where the battle took place.

“The Commanders at the Battle of Long Tan, who are marking the 42nd anniversary today, are fully behind the film project,” said Walsh.

Guest writer: Andrea Sanmiguel, interim public relations associate
Houstonians driving by the Wortha

Guest writer: Andrea Sanmiguel, interim public relations associate

Houstonians driving by the Wortham Theater center last week might have noticed a limousine complete with police escort driving up to the box office entrance with great fanfare and wondered: what VIP must be coming in to town? Had they stayed to watch a bit longer, they would have noticed that the limo never drove farther than four yards and that it kept making that same trip numerous times. Then they might have realized that the cameras didn’t belong to paparazzi but to the film crew of the Bruce Beresford movie Mao’s Last Dancer.

After 14 weeks of non-stop filming throughout China and Australia, the story of Li Cunxin has once again made its way to Houston. For one week the movie’s crew enjoyed the humid air, burning sun and killer traffic of our fair city in order to get every last shot that was needed.

While being on a movie set was very exciting, it didn’t always involve all the action one might have expected. The crew was setting up and taking photographs in the eye of a very angry sun and then had to wait the rest of the afternoon for the sun to go down in order to actually film the scenes they needed, since most were set at night.

Filming took place in the evenings outside the Wortham Theater Center, in the afternoon at the Galleria, and in the early (I mean early!) morning hours of the weekend on the I-10 highway. Bruce Beresford himself showed me shots of Bruce Greenwood (who portrays Ben Stevenson) and Chi Cao (who portrays Li) inside a car against a green screen onto which the images of Houston’s highways will be displayed. I must say that both actors are good matches for the characters they portray.

[gallery]

Top row from left to right: actor Chi Cao, former Houston Ballet principal Li Cunxin, actor Bruce Greenwood; 2nd row: Houston Ballet artistic director emeritus Ben Stevenson

There are a lot of current and former dancers acting in this movie and many notables in the dance world are involved as well. Production teams from Australia, China, and the United States have also come together to make this project a reality. Houston Ballet is proud to be a part of the team that is bringing Li Cunxin’s amazing story to the big screen. We will all wait anxiously until 2010, when we can finally enjoy the finished movie in theaters.

-The second group will sit closer to the stage and will need to wear cocktail attire. Only the top half of your body will be visible in shots.

It is up to you which group you prefer to be in. A performance by the Houston Symphony will be going on during shooting.

A história do filme é contemporânea a Martin Luther King.

E o fiz. "Conduzindo Miss Daisy" é um belo filme. Voltando a ele...

Ele me levou a pensar em mim...

Ah!

The film beautifully tells a tale about the friendship between a driver and his employer, who is an old eccentric lady. The story moves with years of their sweet & sour relationship and ends when they are too old and just in their last years. The movie is full of affectionate moments which you will love to see. It shows how old age brings changes in the behavior and the outlook of some people, whereas some calmly accept the truth of their end. It would be a great loss if you miss it.
Directed By Bruce Beresford
Starring : Morgan Freeman, Jessica Tandy & Dan Aykroyd
