I typed that into Google this morning, hoping to find a clear-cut answer, knowing that I would not.

I typed that into Google this morning, hoping to find a clear-cut answer, knowing that I would not. How many times have I seen a link on digg.com with the promising title of "10 Life-Changing Books/Movies/Foods/Locations/Colors"? Each time I have fallen for their trap, hooked in by the title, drawn in by my own need for something "life-changing". And without a doubt, I find nothing every time. I mean, seriously, what do I expect from a website listing someone else's opinion?

I have my own opinions too about what "changed my life", but 99% of the time, those are just stories that touched me, that made me feel something. Now I'm not a rock or an icicle, but I like to spend my time reading meaningful books, watching meaningful movies/jdramas (more on that later heh), and being inspired by them. I do watch frivolous reality TV and read gossip blogs as much as the next person, but I feel empty and nothing afterward (except for Project Runway).

I'm constantly on the prowl for a good tearjerker, constantly in pursuit of something beautiful to add to my mundane life. I'm well aware that I could and should actively initiate things in my life to spice it up, but it's so much easier to just escape into some fantasy world spurred by a book that leaves me thinking.

I love things that keep my mind trapped in the fictional world, still creating stories after the last page. Sometimes I fall in love with the characters, imagining them in real life, extending their fictional lives by one more thought, one more dream. In those cases, I long for more of the author's prose, more of their words which transport me, which can stir up emotions inside of me - ones that I rarely feel towards humans in real life, but can feel towards their characters.

I'm pretty much a huge sap on the inside, but real life just doesn't expose that part of me. I don't feel like i'm allowed to be anything but sensible, rational, stoic and invulnerable. But! But I escape that with something "life-changing". Honestly, it doesn't change my life - I don't magically become a better person - but it does create an opportunity for me to be emotional. And my own creativity is stimulated by a good book, a beautiful design on Project Runway, or even just a satisfying jdrama. Yes, this is probably due to the fact that I don't physically go anywhere or see anything beautiful. I'm sure if I were to go see a castle ruin or a Monet painting, I'd feel inspired as well, but being stuck at work and the suburbs really doesn't facilitate that very easily. So I turn to these...er...secondary sources.

If only it were that easy to change a life, to find beauty and passion; those are just words without much meaning on their own.

Well I've been slowly adding to this post since earlier this morning at work. Not sure what the point is anymore really, besides "I want to find something in my life", as usual. Time is just going by so quickly, and at the end of it all, what do I have to show? Will anyone experience something I've created and feel inspired?

I don't understand my obsession with feeling - somehow I just exist with a sense of blankness inside. It's not emptiness, it's not inner peace; it's just absolutely nothing, most of the time. I do think I'm becoming more compassionate now, as I chip away at that impenetrable facade of contentment. And I'm constantly changing as I find myself and try to make myself a better person. I know I'm a good person inside - I just can't be afraid of, well, myself anymore.

Doesn't it look like somebody ran a muck with the Ghiradelli hot fudge?!

Here sits a work of art that looks good enough to eat. A smarter move, of course, would be to plug it in. Turn it on, then stand back. Gently fold your arms, tilt your head to one side, and just admire it.

Maybe it should be called a GLAM(P)!

(G)LAMP?

Did I just make up a new word?

Without a doubt this lamp belongs in the Glam category.

A little naughty. A little nice. Definitively premium.

Even lamp shades have taken the next step to "up grade" their jewelry! It's not just fringe anymore - Recently, lighting companies have introduced lamp shades studded with crystals or the shade itself is curvaceous - mimicking "the little black dress". Any way you look at it, the unmistakable beauty and the sparkle of GLAMPS is not to be denied.

I have been a make-up artist and esthetician for four years now, but my love and knowledge of make-u

I have been a make-up artist and esthetician for four years now, but my love and knowledge of make-up extends far beyond that. Here are five cosmetics that I just love! I may have to come out with another list again soon, though, because I am a product junkie and choosing just five is pretty difficult. However, here are the ones I do use almost everyday:

1.) Lorac “Hot Flash” blush/bronzer duo

I purchased this product at Sephora over a year ago, and it’s still kickin’! To warn you, it is going to look a bit scary at first. The bronzer is VERY bronze and the blush looks HOT pink. However, please look past that because this product, when used correctly, imparts the most beautiful glow on your face. This is how I use it:

With a big powder/bronzer brush, I actually tap it once so both colors get on the brush. I then turn the brush so that the pink is on my cheekbone and bronzer is on the bottom. Then I just lightly brush back and forth a couple times, blending into my temple and down my jaw in a circular motion. Repeat the same technique on the other side. When it is summertime, I will take a small blush brush, tap it in the blush and put a little extra on my cheekbone and under my eyes. It really brightens up my face! It is very pigmented and lasts all day…For reference, I have light/medium skin with olive undertones.

2.) Trish McEvoy Curling Mascara in Black

Let me tell you, I very, very rarely buy a mascara twice. There are just so many out there! And, I have gone back and forth to department store and CVS type mascaras. Some people will tell you that it doesn’t matter where you get it from, and it truly doesn’t. Pharmacy type mascaras are great, don’t get me wrong, but nothing compares (dept. store or pharmacy) to this mascara! It’s the only one that I have bought multiple times in a row. For one thing, I don’t need my eyelash curler when I use this, FOR REAL! Secondly, it coats each and every lash so that the definition is unbelievable. I have had friends ask me if I had on fake eyelashes. Thirdly, and probably most important for most people, it DOES NOT SMUDGE at all! Even when you wash it off (all you need is water), it comes off in lil’ tubes and doesn’t leave your under eye area smudged with residual mascaras at all! Fourthly, it leaves my eyelashes more supple and conditioned. It is a little pricey for a mascara, about 25 bucks, but so worth it! It will really last you a full 3 months that doesn’t normally happen with drugstore brands. This is the best mascara to use for you and your bridal party to wear for your wedding day too!

3.) Revlon Colorstay Foundation for combination skin

Now, I know what some of you are saying: “Finding a pharmacy store foundation is just too hard!” Well, it can be, but CVS has a great return policy, and if you truly know what your skin tone is, then it isn’t so hard. Try to avoid anything that has overly pink undertones. Most people have pink in there skin and you don’t want your face to look like a Red Hot. You can always add color to your face with blush or bronzer. Also, go a shade lighter than what you think you would need as these kinds of foundations may have a tendency to oxidize on your skin, thus turning a bit darker after applied. The reason I love this foundation is actually because of the color. I was using MAC Studio Fix Fluid, but it just felt like a mask. This one actually melts into your skin and looks really natural. It also stays on for a long period of time and consistently looks fresh. Just make sure to apply it in very thin layers starting at the center of your face and blending it outwards. I would also recommend doing a double cleanse at night to make sure you get it all off. Cleanse once to remove the make up, then again to cleanse your skin.

4.) MAC foundation brush

Well, this is what I put my foundation on with! It is a great investment. You can have all the most wonderful cosmetics sitting on your vanity, but without the right tools, it just won’t come out right. This brush applies my foundation evenly with an airbrushed finish. I have just recently started using a foundation brush, and am definitely impressed. Make sure to try to wash it out after each use. I have even seen an improvement in my breakouts due to not using my figures or a sponge which can spread bacteria.

5.) MAC Blot powder

Now, I will tell you that I haven’t really tried many pressed powders, so I can’t compare this to a lot of the ones out there, but what I do know is I don’t care because I love this so much! I put it on over my done face with a big powder brush and it just makes my face airbrushed and fresh looking. It also feels really silky and great! I don’t need to use it much throughout the day, but when I do, it doesn’t add any color or extra “weight.” It just does what it says, BLOTS! Try to either keep the puff washed regularly or buy extra ones as to not spread germs to your face.

The Devil’s Apprentice

I can see the devil’s apprentice, a man with buzz-cut gray hair and long thin sideburns. Tattoos snake up and down his arms like twisting wires and his fingertips grind against the steel chords of his midnight guitar. The slim spectacles glinting on his nose conceal nothing as he pours his soul into the strumming and plucking of strings.
On either side of the devil’s apprentice stand two with instruments of gold clutched in their gifted claws. A saxophone, a trumpet, they squeal and stamp their song into the crowd. They are red in the face, mouths bulging with fire and brimstone. Their fingers tap out the whirling crescendos that dazzle and blind before they lay their weapons to rest.
The devil’s apprentice grins now; a tongue of flame escapes from his maw.
The roiling undercurrent of sound that pulses beneath guitar licks and snares and shrieks can not only be heard but felt as a wild-haired demon kisses his thick strings with steady fingertips. He stoically stands, a sharp contrast to the devil’s apprentice, a solitary and silent companion to the intense threads of fire issuing from the midnight guitar and the golden ones. His bass guitar is obsidian and sharp angles rimmed with white gold.
Behind the four black and white imps lies a master of rhythm in steady repose. One two three four, he sets the tone and pulls puppet strings like he controls their every move with his shining beats. He flicks the drumsticks across his set of tightly drawn skin and hard bone, he relaxes. He can feel the power behind his staccato beats and thumping rhythm.
The devil’s apprentice still bares his teeth in a grotesque fashion, a maniacal smile.
He laughs.
He laughs and drops the guitar pick to the ground and unleashes a new wave of sound and pounds away at the crowd with dancing tapping springing fingertips.
The devil’s apprentice is slowing, swaying from side to side. He slows, he relaxes.
He stops.
And the crowd bows low as the Devil’s apprentice swings his arms high.

MILAN — With e-commerce sales set to exceed $300 billion by 2012 according to recent estimates, leading fashion companies from Giorgio Armani to Valentino have been setting up shop online.

Now, some of them are looking to invest in the next generation of e-tailers.

YOOX Group, the global Internet retailing partner for leading fashion and design brands, and MIP, the Business School of the Politecnico di Milano, have organized this innovative learning opportunity combining fashion and the Internet, the future of Made in Italy.

The master program takes advantage of a major change in the Italian fashion industry. Today, the most important luxury and fashion brands are moving quickly to develop new business through the Internet, but have a difficult time finding the resources needed to do so. The past few years have seen an increase of prominent fashion brands venturing online, such as Diesel, Dior, Emporio Armani, Gucci, Hermès, Louis Vuitton and Valentino. All of these companies started out with a corporate website to which they added an online store.

Some of Italy’s most prominent brands will be involved in the master program: Giorgio Armani, Diesel, Marni and Valentino. These companies immediately saw that this opportunity would encourage new E-Fashion talent, and are offering internship and employment opportunities to the master’s most outstanding students.

From the next academic year, when the program begins, Armani will offer one annual scholarship — covering the tuition fees of 15,500 euros, or $24,600 at current exchange...

We can expect that the fashion well of Italy will never dry up.

Note-this was originally written during my rather depressed time this past winter. I still feel this

Note-this was originally written during my rather depressed time this past winter. I still feel this way sometimes, but as I describe, it is only triggered by certain events or experiences.

Once the fire of the exotic settles in your soul, it is impossible to be rid of it. You can deny it, forget about it, store it away, but it will never be gone. It will come back to you in flashes of visions, in a smell, in a person on the street that you thought you’ve seen before. You’re at work, so you push the memory down, so it settles in your stomach like a burning ember. You are in church, so you steal a glance at your family to inject a fresh thought into your mind. You’re with your lover, so you look away to hide the fact that you’re thinking of something that you cannot ever share with them.

For me, it is the scent of a wood fire from the poor villages of Mexico. Eggs on a bolillo. The polished white tile floors, everything clean and white and pure. The heat of the morning. The eternal springtime. Bugambillia. Majestic mountains. The Aztec histories. Tortillas and lime. Jocoque. These are what I am tortured with, as I look around my gray office. As I look outside on the gray skies, the eternal greyness only broken by still-bare trees. This is torture, too much to bear. Because this was no mere vacation taken in Mexico. It was an introduction to beauty, a subject that will ever fester until I am instructed in it by the Master himself.
