The 360's new dashboard! Good or bad? I don't know. I'll be straight forward. I do not, at all, care for all the glitter and polish. I expect my 360 to let me play games, and that's about it. I expect the same from my Wii and future PS3. So lets see what they're adding, and I'll give my opinion as we go down the list.

#1: “With this new dashboard experience you will be able to install the entire game onto the hard drive, and by using the disc you can initiate the game start up, which allows to you to have even quicker load times, an even quieter box and even better experience.”

Yeah, I don't really care. I still use the standard 20 GB HDD that game with my 360, so it's not like a can install lots of games on my HDD anyway. Seriously though, are loading times really THAT bad? Is it so horrible to have to wait a few seconds? The PS3 went overboard on the subject, forcing gamers to sit through horrendously long install times. Just give me multiple disks, I'm not that lazy that I can't get up to change the disk. I don't care about disk changing. Just let me play my game right away. So yeah, I'm neutral. >_>

#2: “There is a 3D element to the visuals and experience and is part of the new wow factor, the avatars have depth, the whole Dashboard has a 3D look and feel.

As said, I couldn't care less about the shiny things they put on. How long do people spend looking at their dashboard, really? I see mine long enough to put in a disk, which is like a minute at most.

#3: “When you log in you get to the My Xbox Channel, you will see your gamer score, your avatars and game achievements, but it’s laid out in a way that all of the experiences are pushed out right in front of you — it is so user friendly.”

Do not EVER use the terms "pushed right in front of you" and "user friendly" in the same sentence. I'm expecting some chaotic mess of unnecessary gimmicks.

#4: “Customisation of avatars is off the charts, you can make them look as much like you, or not like you, as you want. You can add hats, clothing, if you’re a female you can add a purse, lipstick, there are endless amounts of customisation.”

First, I realized they spelled "customization" wrong in the article. Funny. Anyway, listen Microsoft. The Wii's Mii program was fun for like, the first half an hour. After that, it just got pointless. You say yours has accessories and crap. Yay, yours will be fun for like an hour.

#5: “In your online community, all your friends are right there represented by their avatars and above their head it will tell you what they’re doing, whether playing a game, watching a movie or sharing photos, so you can jump into that experience with your friends.

I'm pretty sure I could do most of that before. Only now I have to see their big head staring back at me. Are you trying to scare me Microsoft?

#6: “Imagine an open plan community with all these avatars interacting and from there I can get a group of my friends to create a party to enhance the community experience and we can all go from one experience to the next, from playing a game together, to sharing photos, sharing videos, having a chat, and doing all these different things.”

So it's like home, but without the crappy Second Life experience? You sold me Microsoft, bring the future. I can't wait to talk to my friends, look at pictures, and watch movies on my gaming console!

So yeah, in conclusion, this update is pointless. Gaming consoles should first and foremost be for gaming. This is clearly not.

At first login, after assigning with a name, location and a picture, the application looks like an ordinary Google Map with my name on it. From here, the first thing to be done, is to find my home, or any place I would like to call home, on the map and click on my own thumbnail image. A menu appears and one of the options is "Establish my Home here", which gives a starting point and a place to return to if one gets lost. This all might seem rather basic, but the fun starts, when other people start the same. When 'travelling' around the globe one finds many other homes of other participants and also their thumbnail avatar. When meeting another, you get the immediate chance to start chatting with each other and getting acquintant. A faster way to meet new people is hardly possible.

Let's start at the beginning.

Two years ago it all started with the idea, to make a virtual world, using the real globe and as such, using Google Maps as a grid. Internauting on the website of Twinverse, it becomes very clear that it was meant to be a globe-based virtual environment based on peer-to-peer technology, which uses the computers of the users who are connected to the application, in stead of one or more servers. This is the main difference between Twinverse and for example Second Life, which is almost all server based. Also it was meant to be in 3D, like most other virtual world are already.
Another feature that is very interesting, is under the tab "user content" and shows, in chronological order, all text, photo's and video's that have been added by users to the maps, by using "maptags". Readers who are more interested in the technical details will enjoy Joaquin Keller's blog "In the Computronium".

It was just bad luck perhaps, that nobody was interested to download the software and start using the application. According to Jamal B, who is one of the creators, it was because of this that they have changed their plans for a while and have started with this webbased application in 2D, like it is now.

But the dream is not over, it is just getting started. Although many features still have to get finished and a lot of wishes are still to be fullfilled, the strongest wish, as to build this application in a 3D version is still alive.

Give it a go, it is worth it!

My point in this post is that judging someone by what you perceive to be a truth is just wrong.  Unless you've spent months getting to know someone, you really don't know what is going on behind the keyboard.  We only know what our humans wish to share.  Then there is no way to know if what is being shared is true or wishful thinking.  You can't look in their eyes, you can't hear the tone in their voice.  So, do you go on blind faith and just trust or do you wait for someone to earn it?

Going beyond the obvious of gender swapping avatars there are all the other little details some of us leave out.  Married, gay/lesbian, age, race, culture, and all the other little details that define us and our lives.  I hear it often, *Is it cheating if your married in RL and partnered/having sex with a different av in SL?*  Well if your hiding it from your spouse in RL then yeah, your cheating.  Even if it's just pixels.  If your not using Xcite gear most likely your cybering and since that requires some thought and for you to type it out, to me, that's cheating.  If your RL spouse knows all about it and doesn't care, ok but to me, it's still cheating.  You'll note I said ME.  Your opinions are your own.

Age is a tough one.  Underage players shouldn't be on the adult grid.  Simple end of story.  I agree there are a lot that are mature enough to handle it but it's not just for their protection, it's for ours too.  Think of all the possibilities for lawsuits should it come out that a teen was hanging out with adults.  Think about some of the raunchy, innuendo filled conversations you've had.  Do you want a 16 or 17 or younger person hearing all that?  An overly flirtacious adult hitting on them?  The adult has no idea but can be labelled a pedophile all the same.  So regardless of the maturity of the kid, I say they should be kicked back to the teen grid.  As an aside, maybe the teen grid would be popular if these kids on the adult grid stayed on the teen grid.

Race/culture/sexual preference are all breeding grounds for discrimination in the real world.  I see the same in SL only on a smaller scale.  I'm not going to even try to comprehend the pressures these people go thru in RL.  That many come to SL to escape that I have no doubt.  While folks in SL are generally  more accepting, there are still issues.  The furries and Goreans are persecuted.  Adults in kid avs are banned from many places and some accused of age play.  While there are some bad eggs in the basket, you don't throw the whole thing out. 

The next time you meet someone new, take a few moments to get to know them a bit.  You really have no idea who is behind the avatar and things are not always as they appear.

Been a crappy week for my poor Avatar. First her owner's mac starts having power problems and now the windows that she uses to play inworld and to Dj is.... well... may it rest in piece. Yesterday, I did alot of bitching because now I am down to a  half- functioning mac that hates SL. I see my Virtual Life slipping away...

And even worst soon my mac will go and then I'm doom to No Internet at all until I can afford a new laptop *SCREAMS*

But as shitty fuckered difficult as things are at the moment, I shouldn't forget that in both worlds I am still lucky.

At the very least  I know I will not lose my mate if my SL world crumbs...

And for now even though I can't tp or send notecards, I can still log in for needed cuddles

It sucks not to  be able to DJ for awhile because I love sharing good songs...

So here is a good one that  had the perfect advice for my current situation...

On a wild party a few people discussed about strange avatars. Then we came to moving shops ... suddenly somebody uttered the thought that if youd had to carry all that stuff from one shop to the other, you'd look like a moving yardsale ... a big pile of rubbish.

The natural thought to follow while dancing was to try that and hang all kinds of queer stuff on every single attacmentpoint to get and keep on spinning in dancing.

Ta DAHHHH!:) Everyone kept laughing for half an hour and it was decided that the Outfit should be remembered and offered as an Avatar.

Ok, it's been much too long...and all I can say is it's been a really busy time. Feeble excuse, I know. Mea culpa! We had a great tiny Medieval Festival in September and are heading into Halloween, but we start off the month with a grand exposition of jewelry in Second Life. Miriel Enfield has done a great job organizing it and the rules were stringent, but hopefully will result in banishing the evils of lag which so plagued last year's expo. Under my store, The Oh! Factor, I have my place near one of the corners at booth 68. One of the rules was textures could be no larger than 256x256. I am presenting the pieces I have at the Expo so that you, and anyone who clicks on my web page loader at the show, can see the work with more clarity. Thumbnails will take you to the larger versions. Hope to see you at the show!

I also have other jewelry which I've placed at a show price of 100L$ (regularly 250L$). There is also a charity, which is actually one of my favorites in RL, for which many of us have created or donated pieces to help raise funds. Mine is a new jewelry set called Dove of Peace.

Film kartun Avatar: Legend of the Aang (di AS namanya Avatar: The Last Bender) merupakan salah satu film kartun yang paling banyak peminatnya, bukan saja di Indonesia namun juga di negara-negara lain. Dari anak-anak yang jika bicara saja masih susah, sampai bapak-bapak yang beberapa rambutnya sudah mulai memutih. Hanya saja, saya belum pernah mendengar ada kakek-kakek yang suka nonton Avatar.

Serial film kartun Avatar banyak mengadopsi seni budaya, adat istiadat, dan mitologi dari benua Asia dalam penciptaan fiksinya. Avatar juga mencampur filosofi, bahasa, agama, seni bela diri, pakaian, dan budaya dari negara-negara Asia seperti Cina, Jepang, Mongolia, Korea, India, dan Tibet. Hal ini bisa dimungkinkan sebab kru dari film seri Avatar sendiri mempekerjakan konsultan budaya, Edwin Zane, untuk memeriksa naskah cerita.

Secara etimologi, istilah Avatar berasal dari bahasa Sansekerta (Avatāra) yang secara harfiah berarti "turun", atau dalam pengertian luas berarti “Datangnya Ratu Adil”, seperti halnya Maranatha dalam paham Katolik. Dalam mitologi Hindu, para dewa memanifestasikan dirinya sebagai manusia super dengan turun menjelma ke dunia untuk mengembalikan keseimbangan di muka bumi, setelah mengalami zaman kejahatan yang teramat sangat. Penjelmaan dewa inilah, sang penyelamat terakhir, yang disebut sebagai Sang Avatar.

Belakangan, ada yang menyatakan serial Avatar memuat misi tersembunyi untuk kepentingan Sang Dajjal. Sangat mungkin, penilaian ini berangkat dari pengakuan Sai Baba, manusia nyentrik dari Khurasan yang dianggap sebagian orang sebagai penjelmaan Dajjal di abad ke-21, yang memang mengaku sebagai Avatar (Sang Penyelamat). Benar tidaknya Sai Baba seorang Dajjal, wallahu’alam bishawab.

Ada pun mengenai misi tersembunyi dari serial kartun Avatar, hal ini bisa benar dan bisa pula tidak. Namun mengingat Avatar termasuk dalam film kartun jaringan Holywood (Nickelodeon), agaknya memang perlu dikritisi lebih lanjut. Sebab, film-film produksi Hollywood memang tidak pernah bebas nilai, selalu saja mengandung isme-isme yang aneh.

Wes Penre, salah satu tokoh artis AS yang ‘membangunkan’ kelompok musik cadas di AS di era 1980-an, menyatakan jika serial-serial besutan Walt Disney yang di luaran sepertinya aman-aman saja dipirsa sebenarnya mengandung pengajaran kepada anak-anak kecil tentang dunia magis dan ilmu hitam yang membahayakan keimanan. Wes Penre sudah bertobat dan kini giat melakukan pencerahan kepada khalayak AS dan dunia tentang bahayanya produk-produk Hollywood.

Tentang bahaya atau tidaknya serial Avatar memang perlu penelusuran yang lebih serius. Namun yang pasti, sinetron-sinetron made in Indonesia yang konyol, jauh dari realitas kehidupan rakyat kita, mengajarkan banyak kekerasan, membiasakan pola hidup pacaran (bahkan bulan Ramadhan kemarin ada sinetron yang perempuannya pakai cadar tapi tetap saja pacaran! Naudzubillah!), dan memperlihatkan kekayaan yang luar biasa, ini jauh lebih berbahaya dipandang dari segi akidah. Seolah-olah kesuksesan hidup di dunia ini semata-mata diukur dari banyak sedikitnya kita berhasil mengumpulkan harta kekayaan, tidak perlu bertanya dari mana asalnya, tidak perduli jika hal itu memiskinkan orang lain.

Acara-acara di teve selain sinetron juga konyol, merusak akidah, dan melecehkan intelektual. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari acara-acara seperti Extravaganza, dangut mania, idol-idol, paranoia, dan sebagainya. Bisa jadi, karena muatan acara di teve sekarang mayoritas diisi dengan acara yang merusak dan sama sekali tidak bermanfaat, banyak keluarga modern kini membuang pesawat tevenya dan menggantinya dengan rak buku yang diisi dengan buku-buku yang bermanfaat dan jauh lebih berguna kelak. Voltando a falar em jogos, eu meio que me arrependi de comprar SPORE, além do jogo ter que jogar online pra ter acesso a todos os recursos, eu cheguei em uma fase super chata de civilização e acabei que desencantando do coemntado SPORE, não quero desanimar ninguem interessado mas só curte até a fase de tribos depois haja paciência com aquela chatisse!

Que sono, irei dormir amanhã sabadão e tenho que trabalhar, dia das criança está chegando na loja e o meu pesadelo também. Fiquem com Deus!
