<title><![CDATA[Office work for the glory of science!]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Having an injury while in Hawai`i for a summer of outdoor research is definitely a drag. Even my meager plans to go snorkeling last weekend were derailed by rainstorms. My boss wouldn't let me go to the ocean entry tonight because I'm not medically cleared until this Friday. ((Sigh)) </p>
<p>To say that desk work is frustrating doesn't begin to convey today's small agonies. I'm attempting to <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Georeference">georeference</a> new and improved satellite photography for our mapping project. I am using a program called <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ArcGIS">ArcGIS</a>, and its offshoot known as ArcMap, to compare the old satellite imagery with the new. Unfortunately, the new images come to me as 1 kilometer squares with absolutely no reference points (aside from their <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topography">topographic</a> features). I have to place the new image over several older ones and then compare distinctive features to link the images up. Imagine trying to take two different tracings and line them up as closely as possible by stitching them together. It's a very time-intensive job, since you have to look for the smallest recognizable features to stitch in order to make an accurate map. </p>
<p>I spent 5 hours working on one quadrant (Mauna Loa's summit and the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOAA">NOAA Weather Observatory</a> on its flank). Guess what happened? Yes, the computer lost the data. 26 meticulously georeferenced points. 5 hours of beating the thing into submission, and all for naught. ARGH. I will conquer it tomorrow, I swear. </p>
<p>Here's a sample of the type of images I'm working with. The Big Island is 10,432 square kilometers. Each image I work with is one kilometer. You can see how this would take quite a while.</p>

<p>Since I haven't posted one of these before, this shows how much of the Big Island's surface area is covered by its various volcanoes. Mauna Loa is huge, and covers 51% of the island. Remember that Hualalai, Mauna Loa, and Kilauea are the only 3 active volcanoes. Hualalai has been dormant for some time, and doesn't have much eruptive capability left. Kilauea is always erupting (these days) and is the current star of the show. However, the amount of lava produced by Kilauea in one day was produced by Mauna Loa in 20 minutes in 1984. It's far and away the most potentially dangerous volcano in Hawai`i.</p>

<p>Thankfully, we're going on a field trip up Mauna Loa on Thursday. I am so excited to get out of the office it's almost silly. The week after this one I'll either be hacking through the low jungles of Mauna Loa's eastern flank doing a gravity survey, or up on Mauna Loa's summit doing more kinematic GPS. Down with office work!*</p>

<title><![CDATA[Tradecraft in the Long Tail]]></title>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Fact: Chris Anderson, WIRED editor in chief and author of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&#38;location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2FLong-Tail-Future-Business-Selling%2Fdp%2F1401302378%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Dbooks%26qid%3D1214482044%26sr%3D1-1&#38;tag=shespi-20&#38;linkCode=ur2&#38;camp=1789&#38;creative=9325">the Internet-era classic book "The Long Tail</a>," also runs a couple of Ning social networks focusing on what the intelligence community would call IMINT, or</strong> <strong>imagery intelligence - specifically </strong><a href="http://diydrones.com/" target="_blank"><strong>DIY Drones</strong></a><strong>, "a site for all things about</strong> <strong>amateur Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs): How-to's, videos, discussion and more," and <a href="http://pictearth.ning.com/" target="_blank">PictEarth</a>, "a Social Network used to collect, link and geotag RC, UAV/UAS or Kite derived Earth imagery for use in 3D Globe Programs including Google Earth, Virtual Earth, World Wind and ArcGIS Explorer."</strong></p>
<p><strong>Analysis:</strong>  With these sites, Chris Anderson is promoting what he calls "Crowdsourced Aerial Imagery."  In the mission statement for DIY Drones, he writes that "Reasons to make your own UAV range from a fun technical challenge, student contests, aerial photography and mapping (what we call "GeoCrawling"), and scientific sensing. <strong>We are primarily interested in civilian, not military, UAV uses here."</strong> (Emphasis is in the original.)</p>
<p>Let's presume that individual DoD or intelligence-agency personnel have an interest in such issues, and maybe even in spending their personal time by keeping current and following the crowd's interest in such topics, by participating in these new social networks.  One can then assume that others from foreign intelligence might have some interest in tracking those very IC personnel, by observing their activities within social networks (and not just Ning ones).  No spectacular logic needed for that.</p>
<p>The CIA has had some challenges in understanding their field presence within the Long Tail. </p>
<p><!--more--> <a href="http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/06/25/AR2008062502595.html?nav=rss_world" target="_blank">Today’s Washington Post has the following tidbits</a> from the long-running case in Italian courts accusing CIA personnel<em> in absentia</em> of snatching radical Islamic cleric Abu Omar in Milan in 2003.   Italian police “found a trove of clues on the home computer of the CIA's chief spy in Milan… street maps on the CIA officer's computer that had been downloaded from an Internet travel service, Expedia.com. The maps, he said, showed the quickest routes from the cleric's mosque and home in Milan to Aviano Air Base… Recovered computer files also showed that [a CIA officer] used Expedia to book a plane reservation to Cairo around the time Nasr was kidnapped…"</p>
<p>The Post story today also recounts that "The computer also contained a list of about 70 hotels around Milan that Italian investigators used to help identify CIA operatives who played a role in the kidnapping… Italian authorities have said they were astounded to find the evidence left unprotected on [the officer's] computer. But according to the testimony and court records, the CIA repeatedly failed to cover its tracks during the operation. While most of the CIA officers used false identities, they left a long paper and electronic trail that enabled Italian investigators to retrace their movements, court documents show."</p>
<p>The point I'm addressing is not about collaboration among intelligence analysts and officers, within secure networks -- the "Intellipedia revolution" advocated ably by people like <a href="http://www.fcw.com/print/13_43/management/151075-1.html" target="_blank">the IC's Chris Rasmussen</a>.  Rather, it's about the desire of intelligence professionals to operate in today's Internet-enabled world, without leaving overt traces which can directly point back to them and reveal patterns or identifiers they don't want to leave.  That desire could be expressed as planning to operate on the grid, but appearing to be off the grid - except when they perhaps find it in their interest to leave a constructed "false-flag" grid trail.</p>
<p>If you think about it, the ordinary Internet user probably has the same thought sometimes.  My wife complains about a certain competing search engine, not out of corporate loyalty to my employer, but because she's become annoyed by the overwhelming ubiquity of targeted ads, in search results, emails, RSS feeds, etc. </p>
<p>If you want to witness these motivations further, just check out the "Welcome to the Underground" blog, particularly <a href="http://versatile1.wordpress.com/2008/05/29/staying-off-the-grid-volume1/" target="_blank">last month's post "Staying Off the Grid, Vol. 1."</a>   That's only the tip of the iceberg.</p>
<p>I'd recommend that users, IT professionals, and policymakers <a href="http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/twc/default.mspx" target="_blank">all stay current on secure, private, and reliable computing practices</a>, as with Microsoft's Trustworthy Computing initiative.  Anyone who isn't careful in the Long Tail today about the information they're scattering for potential abuse in identity-theft or fraud, may find themselves with the same regrets as that Italian-based CIA officer, certainly wishing now that he'd understood more about cookies and web traces.</p>

<p style="text-align:justify;">Hoje começaremos as demonstrações de algumas funcionalidades de conversão de vetores, tanto nos procedimentos básicos do ArcGIS como com a extensão ET GeoWizards, que pode ser baixada no link <a href="http://www.etgrid.com/downloads/etgw/ETGeoWizards97_92.zip." target="_blank">ET GeoWizards.</a> Essa extensão traz muitas facilidades e tem como princípio a qualidade na produção dos dados e agilidade de processos, além de outras funcionalidades.<br />
Será apresentado nesse tutorial a seguinte conversão (Polígono para linha).

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Ada banyak kesulitan dalam menginstall ArcGIS pada platform Windows Vista. Hal ini bersumber dari <em>License Manager</em> yang tidak kompatibel dengan Windows Vista. Berbeda dengan program ArcGIS 9.2 sendiri yang sebenarnya sudah kompatibel dan secara prinsip dapat digunakan pada Windows Vista. Untungnya, hal ini sekarang telah dapat diatasi dengan memperbarui <em>"License Manager"</em> yang sebelumnya terinstall secara standar dari default installer ArcGIS. Berikut akan dipaparkan langkah-langkah memperbarui fungsi license manager pada platform Windows Vista.</p>
<ol>
<li>Sebagai langkah pertama, install License Manager ArcGIS 9.2 secara standar sebagaimana biasa dilakukan pada tahap awal instalasi ArcGIS</li>
<li><strong>Setelah reboot, ArcGIS License Manager tidak akan berfungsi</strong>. Untuk itu, <strong>hilangkan (remove) ArcGIS License Manager Service</strong> dengan menggunakan utiliti tertentu (misalnya menggunakan the srvinstw.exe GUI dari Microsoft, sc command-line dari Microsoft, atau WinSIM GUI dari Frameworkx). Ingat bahwa HANYA SERVICEnya saja yang dibuang</li>
<li>Uninstall driver untuk hardware key (dongle) yang terpasang. Dapatkan driver untuk hardware key terbaru dari h<a title="Update driver untuk hardware key" href="http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp" target="_blank">ttp://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinel.asp</a> , kemudian lepaskan hardware key (dongle) dari tempatnya</li>
<li>Dengan kondisi hardware key terlepas, install kembali driver yang telah didownload dengan memilih untuk menginstall driver usb/parallel saja. Setelah selesai dengan instalasi, hardware key dapat dipasang kembali</li>
<li>Browse ke C:\Program Files\ESRI\License\arcgis9x dan ubah nama 3 file yaitu: <strong>lmgrd.exe, lmutils.exe dan lmtools.exe</strong> menjadi nama lain atau <strong>ubah ekstensinya dengan .bak</strong></li>
<li>Download versi terakhir file-file FlexLM dari <a title="FlexLM Versi Terbaru untuk Vista" href="http://www.globes.com/support/generic/utilities/fnp_utilities_download.htm" target="_blank">http://www.globes.com/support/generic/utilities/fnp_utilities_download.htm</a></li>
<li><strong>Ubah nama</strong> file-file yang baru didownload tersebut menjadi lmgrd.exe, lmutils.exe dan lmtools.exe untuk menggantikan versi yang lama</li>
<li>Buat file kosong dengan ekstensi .log pada direktori C:\Program Files\ESRI\License\arcgis9x (mis. flexlm.log)</li>
<li>Selanjutnya <strong>atur <em>License Manager</em></strong> dengan men-dobel klik lmtools.exe (harus sebagai administrator). Masukkan kembali parameter-parameter yang diminta pada tab Config Services sesuai dengan kondisi sebelumnya (masing-masing lmgrd.exe, license.lic/.dat, dan flexlm.log dari direktori C:\Program Files\ESRI\License\arcgis9x)</li>
<li>Beri tanda cek pada pilihan Services and then Start Server at Power Up kemudian klik pada Save Services</li>
<li>Anda sudah selesai dan tinggal me-restart komputer</li>
<li>Bila sudah reboot, atur kembali lisensi ArcGIS anda melalui Desktop Administrator bila ArcGIS belum dapat menemukan License Manager/Servicesnya</li>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Spent part of today trying to get an event handler to work in ArcGIS.  What I wanted to do was show a form, allow the user to select a button which would hide the form and then allow the user to digitise a line on the map.  Double-clicking to end the line would show the form again.  The aim is to develop the code in VBA.</p>
<p>So, after a few tries, I came up with the map event handler - but this doesn't work as the events that you get relate to drawing on the map (see http://esri.com/news/arcuser/1005/files/eventdriven.pdf  - in particular for a list of the events that can be triggered from a map and http://www.esri.com/news/arcuser/0404/files/productivity.pdf for how to use the map event handler).</p>
<p>So the solution seems to be use the Editor event handler.  For some examples of how this works, see:</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="ES-MX">La evolución de los servicios Web, aplicaciones SIG y la necesidad de compartir información geoespacial han permitido que organizaciones como la <a href="http://www.opengeospatial.org/"><span style="text-decoration:none;">OGC</span></a> (Open Geospatial Consortium, antes OpenGIS) desarrollen estándares para el acceso vía Web de información para trabajo con datos espaciales. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="ES-MX">La OGC</span><span lang="ES-MX"> es una organización formada por más de 362 compañías, gubernamentales y universidades que participan en consenso en el desarrollo de interfaces que faciliten el acceso a datos geoespaciales. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="ES-MX">Las especificaciones más importantes surgidas del OGC son:</span></p>

<li class="MsoNormal"><span lang="ES-MX">GML      - Lenguaje de Marcado Geográfico. </span></li>

<li class="MsoNormal"><span lang="ES-MX">WMS      - Web Map Service o Servicio de mapas en la web que produce mapas en      formato imagen a la demanda para ser visualizados por un navegador web o      en un cliente simple.</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal"><span lang="ES-MX">WCS      - Web Coverage Service</span></li>
<li class="MsoNormal"><span lang="ES-MX">CSW      - Web Catalogue Service o Servicio de catálogos interfaz común para el      descubrimiento, búsqueda y consulta de metadatos relacionados a datos,      servicios y recursos de tipo geográfico.</span><span lang="ES-MX"> </span></li>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="ES-MX">Servicios como WMS pueden ser utilizadas con un navegador estándar realizando peticiones en forma de URLs, pero existen varios software para SIG que ya cuentan con este servicio con la ventaja de agregar información local y utilizar las herramientas del mismo. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;"><span lang="ES-MX">Vamos a pasar de la teoría (aburrido) a la práctica y en esta ocasión lo haremos con </span><span lang="ES-MX">ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 y con la dirección de servicios WMS de INEGI.</span></p>

<p>Did you ever install ArcGIS Server Java first and then go ahead and change the host name of the machine only to realize now the you will have to either re-install or run post install or contact support to fix ArcGIS Server.</p>
<p>Did you ever have an disk image with ArcGIS Server Java installed and configured, then you go ahead and ghost the image on many machines only to realize that all the hostnames are the same.</p>
<p>Don't worry, In this post you will find information on what files has got the entries of the host name and for what purpose. This will also give you a good understanding of how ArcGIS Server Manager and Web Services Handler uses these configuration files.</p>

<p><span style="color:#ff0000;">Note: These files are for version 9.2, I will update the post shortly after the 9.3 is released.</span></p>
<p>The five files of concern are:</p>

C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\java\manager\config\applications\build\build.properties</pre>
<p>1.  <strong><span style="color:#3366ff;">&#60;ArcGIS Install Dir&#62;\server\system\Server.dat</span></strong></p>
<p>This files stores the actual name of the machine where the SOM is running. Also here the URL's to the virtual directories such as the arcgisjobs, arcgisoutput and arcgiscache is set. If your ArcGIS Services are not previewing correctly in ArcCatalog or if the web service end point url's are shown incorrectly than you should check this file. You can edit this file in any text editor, but once you make any changes to this file be sure to restart the ArcGIS Server processes (both ArcGIS Server Manager and  ArcGIS Server Object Manager).</p>
<p>2.  <strong><span style="color:#3366ff;">&#60;ArcGIS Install Dir&#62;\java\manager\service\tomcat\managerserver\webapps\arcgismanager\WEB-INF\classes\manager_client.properties</span></strong></p>
<p>I am not sure on the importance/functionality of this file, but this file has one hostname attribute to startup the manager web application with the correct host name.</p>
<p>3. <strong><span style="color:#3366ff;">&#60;ArcGIS Install Dir&#62;\java\web_output\services\WEB-INF\classes\arcgis_wshandler.properties</span></strong></p>
<p>This is a pretty important configuration file. This file has all the details needed including the hostname of where the SOM is installed for the Web Services handler to initialize. So if you are unable to log into manager and also get an HTTP 503 error when you access the services wsdl (http://machinename:8399/arcgis/services?wsdl) then you need to make sure this file has the right entries. There is nice knowledge base article on this issue and here is the <a href="http://support.esri.com/index.cfm?fa=knowledgebase.techarticles.articleShow&#38;d=33019" target="_blank">link</a>.</p>
<p>4. <strong><span style="color:#3366ff;">&#60;ArcGIS Install Dir&#62;\java\manager\service\lib\manager_config.properties</span></strong></p>
<p>This file defines a host name parameter to indicate to the manager tomcat instance as to where to start the new tomcat instance to host all the webapps (port 8399)</p>
<p>5. <strong><span style="color:#3366ff;">&#60;ArcGIS Install Dir&#62;\java\manager\config\applications\build\build.properties</span></strong></p>
<p>This file both a URL and SERVER properties which has a hostname entry primarily used by the manager web application to deploy the web application.</p>
<h4>Few tips to make your life easier:</h4>
<ul>
<li>If you are creating an image to ghost then instead of using the <strong>machinename</strong> try using <strong>localhost</strong> both during the install and post-install of ArcGIS Server. This way the image is portable and no changes are needed</li>
<li>If you are using <strong>Windows XP</strong> then make sure you have turned the built in <strong>firewall</strong> off (this prevents the DCOM from making the necessary connections) and also make sure the <strong>Simple File Sharing</strong> is turned off. This is enabled by default and you will have to manually turn this off, its best done i nthe image so that you will not have to do this for every ghosted machine. <em>(How: My Computer -&#62; Tools -&#62; Folder Options -&#62; View -&#62; Advanced Settings -&#62; All the way to the bottom)</em></li>

<p align="justify">Hoje com o desenvolvimento de sensores de alta resolução os mapeamentos ficaram muito mais precisos, no entanto os produtos de alta resolução ainda são extremamente caros e não são acessíveis à maioria dos usuários de sensoriamento remoto ou SIG, uma “solução” para isso é fazer um dos processos mais usados para se obter imagens com resoluções melhores que as disponíveis no mercado, esse processo é a <strong>Fusão de Imagens.</strong> As técnicas de fusão permitem integrar a maior resolução espacial da banda pancromática à maior resolução espectral das demais bandas, produzindo imagem colorida que reúne ambas as características. Sendo assim, Hoje tentaremos dar uma demonstração do processo no ArcGIS 9.2.</p>

<p>Knp saya lebih memilih ArcGIS, Tadi na saya disuruh belajar menggunakan Autocad, tapi rekomendasi dari temen kerja, seorang anak geologi untuk menggunakan ArcGis..</p>
<p>Instalasi <span style="text-decoration:underline;">ArcGIS 9.2final :</span></p>
<p>1. klik folder LIsence yang tlah didownload..pilih LMsetup, lalu klik.</p>
<p>2. Setelah itu sprt biasa anda tinggal next2 aja pilihan na, pilih yang custom.</p>
<p>3. Setelah selasai, copy foldel crack yang ada didownload anda, kedalam folder ArcGIS tempat anda menarus instalan, Mis : di C:/Programfiles/Arcgis, paste aja, otomatis file crack yang ada di istalan akan ke replace..</p>
<p>4. setelah itu, klik di program- Arcgis - Lisense manager , disini kita akan mengaktifkan linsense manager na dari crack yang kita copy td, jida sudah dimasukkan maka akan keluar status succses,</p>
<p>5. Lalu liat di folder donlotan ArcGIS na pilih icon setup.exe, klik maka prosess instalan selesai.</p>
<p>Untuk menjalankan :</p>
<p>1. pilih program, --&#62; ArcGIS --&#62; ArcMap</p>
<p>2. Setelah itu klik new , mualilah kita membuat peta..</p>
<p>3. di ArcGis ini kita dapat menAdd data berupa database,  baik itu berbentuk shape atau Line..Beda sprt menggunakan autocad, kita mengambil file yang sudah ada, tinggal kita buat layer2 pengganungan gambar na. klu di ArcGis, jika data sudah siap maka dengan gampang kita kan mengambil souce na..</p>

Los SIG libres son software sin ningún costo y de código abierto, que nos ofrecen soluciones casi comparables con productos de paga y sin pagar un solo centavo con solo dar un clic podemos descargarlos de Internet, ¿perdón ya mencione que son gratis?</span></p>

<p>Danau, baik itu buatan ataupun hasil dari suatu bendung dapat dihitung volume air yang terdapat dengan menggunakan modul sederhana pada perangkat lunak ArcView. ArcView adalah pendahulu dari perangkat lunak ArcGIS yang saat ini populer digunakan oleh  pemain SIG di Indonesia.</p>
<p>Kembali ke pertanyaan: Bagaimana menghitung volume air danau? Ada dua pendekatan yang bisa dilakukan dan ini tergantung dari data dan atau proses terjadinya danau itu sendiri.</p>
<p>Kasus pertama adalah kelengkapan data kedalaman atau batimetri dari danau tersebut. Jika data ini ada maka persoalan akan menjadi lebih mudah.</p>

<p>Rekan Jimmy A Kadar, dengan menggunakan 3D Analyst dari perangkat lunak ArcView mencoba menghitung volume air danau Cirata yang terletak di Jawa Barat. (Lihat Danau Cirata di Google Maps, <a title="Danau Cirata" href="http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&#38;hl=en&#38;ie=UTF8&#38;ll=-6.748927,107.30148&#38;spn=0.158198,0.233459&#38;z=12" target="_blank">klik disini</a>)</p>
<p>Jimmy menggunakan data batimetri yang didapat dari Limnologi LIPI, sehingga perhitungan dapat segera dilakukan. Langkah-langkah pengerjaan dapat disimak pada slide berikut ini:</p>

<p>Pada kasus kedua, kita tidak mempunyai data batimetri dari danau yang ada. Kasus ini ditemui oleh rekan Ahmad Mauliddin saat akan menghitung volume danau Bili-Bili. Danau Bili-Bili terletak di Sulawesi Selatan dan merupakan danau yang terbuat dari hasil membendung sungai, serupa dengan danau Cirata. <p>Berhubung tidak ada data batimetri maka pendekatan yang digunakan Ahmad adalah menggunakan data sebelum danau ini terjadi. Artinya adalah dia mencari data topografi daerah Bili-Bili sebelum bendungan dibuat atau diaktifkan. Data topografi yang didapat kemudian didijitalkan ketinggiannya, barulah kemudian diproses dengan 3D Analyst ArcView. Batas danau dapat menggunakan batas saat ini (batas air).</p>

Você já deve ter passado algum tempo tentando ajustar os histogramas para que sua imagem fiquem pelo menos parecidas entre si no que diz respeito à contraste, brilho, saturação e outros, por isso, vamos mostrar como resolver esse problema sem muitos atropelos. Apresentaremos então, a técnica de Save Breakpoint ou copia de histograma.</p>

<li>Ecrire des données (vecteur et image) dans la Géodatabase d'ArcGIS. Ces données sont ainsi directement accessibles depuis l'environnement ArcGIS</li>
</ul>
<ul>
<li>Envoyer vers ArcMap des données ENVI pour finaliser sa chaîne de traitements (création de rapport, mise en page, génération de produits cartographiques, etc.)</li>
</ul>
<p>Enfin, côté ArcGIS, une extension ENVI pour le support du format NITF existe et permet aux analystes d'imagerie géospatiale d'accéder et de produire des données NITF dans les environnements ArcGIS Desktop et ArcGIS Server.</p>
<p>L'exemple ci-dessous illustre une chaîne de traitements complète réalisée à partir de quelques-unes de ces possibilités. Détection de changement réalisée à l'aide de l'assistant semi-automatique "SPEAR - Change Detection" d'ENVI sur deux images QuickBird (côte indonésienne avant et après le tsunami de 2004). <p align="justify">O programa do centro do desenvolvimento da ESRI (EDC) fornece o reconhecimento e o status especial aos departamentos das universidades que têm os programas bem fundamentados e focalizados em educar estudantes para projetar e desenvolver aplicações SIG usando a tecnologia ArcGIS desktop da ESRI.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%;">Estudantes matriculados nos programas EDC, terão acesso especial ao software ESRI e terão possibilidades de ser reconhecidos pelas suas realizações.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%;">Três Universidades foram aprovadas como locais de implantação de um EDC. Essa é uma oportunidade especial, que faz parte de uma nova concepção e desenvolvimento da tecnologia geoespacial.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%;">Os três primeiros locais do EDC foram a Universidade de Redlands e de Claremont Graduate University, na Califórnia, bem como University College, em Londres, no Reino Unido.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;line-height:150%;">Um EDC pode ser alojado em um departamento ou ser multidisciplinar, stand-alone GIS center. As grandes universidades podem precisar de mais de um EDC no campus, por isso, a ESRI está aceitando pedidos durante o período que vai até 15 de setembro de 2008, após este período, haverá matrículas duas vezes por ano, em janeiro e junho.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="text-align:justify;">Essa “ferramenta” permiti que o programador construa a plataforma shapefile em aplicações rápidas por causa da biblioteca API Visual Basic.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">O aplicativo (biblioteca) é reconhecido pela ESRI e já foi bastante testado, tendo assim, seus pequenos problemas sanados.</p>

Oferece tipagem dinâmica - tipos de variáveis não são definidos, é interpretada, ao invés de compilada, possui ótimas ferramentas padrão para listagens, oferece bom suporte a expressões regulares e outras. O JavaScript, apesar de ser usado há muito tempo quase que exclusivamente como linguagem de programação estruturada, também é uma linguagem de programação orientada a objetos poderosa.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p align="justify"><img class="alignright" style="float:right;" src="http://images.jupiterimages.com/common/detail/06/52/22195206.jpg" alt="" width="291" height="231" />A Digital Chart of the World está disponibilizando uma das maiores bases de informação cartográfica em pequena escala (1:1 000 000), o site lembra que a Base foi desenvolvida em 1991/1992 e os limites politico administrativos são referentes a essa época.</p>
<p align="justify">O documento foi gerado originalmente pela empresa estadunidense NIMA (National Imagery and Mapping Agency) e posteriormente a base foi adquirida pela poderosa ESRI.</p>
<p align="justify">Segundo algumas informações, existem várias versões dessa base e até uma paga, que tem atualizações constantes feitas pela ESRI. A versão gratuita pode ser encontrada no site (<a href="http://www.maproom.psu.edu/dcw/">http://www.maproom.psu.edu/dcw/</a>)</p>
<p align="justify">Os temas da base são: limites políticos / Estradas / Curvas de Nível / Cidades e Localidades / Rios e Aeroportos, que podem ser visualizados sem problemas no ArcInfo e exportados para ArcView 3.x</p>
