I love technology.  FYI, all those songs I searched for desperately in the 80s...currently playing on the iPod. :)

ZDNet reports that Norway's Consumer Ombudsman is taking Apple to the government's Market Council in an effort to force the company to open its iTunes store to all mp3 players...

Good luck - Europe has been trying to collectively force Apple's hand with this for two years now - however, Apple ha until early November to respond to the complaint and talk DRM shop with Norway Authorities. A binding legal decision from the Market Council won't be available to next year, however.

It will be interesting to see who blinks first today with a possible downloadable music track royalty rate increase. Apple has publicly stated it may close iTunes if the increase passes.

Not cool!  What will we do without iTunes!?

I have to say I'm well impressed with the Genius Playlist generator that's available with ITUNES 8.0 -  (Although it would be even better if you could copy that newly created playlist directly onto your ipod, but watcha gonna do?)

It's available for download here and you don't need to own an ipod to use it.

I stumbled across this add on called iTunes Friend and not only does it assign lyrics to your songs, it changes your MSN / Windows Live Messenger Display Picture to what you're listening to currently on iTunes (provided you have the correct artwork.)

Their official website is down for some reason but this app works fine for iTunes 8 for me.

It's the best add on EVER.  It does exactly what it says on the tin:

1. Automatic update selected / all song's lyrics from internet.
2. Automatic set the playing song's cover on MSN.
3. Export selected songs to folder.

Step 1. Beralihlah ke halaman situs berikut ini: iTunes Gift Card Code Generator untuk mendapatkan code iTunes gift card. Jangan lupa untuk meng-copy-kan kode tersebut, karena nanti akan kita gunakan kembali.

Step 2. Jalankan iTunes anda, dan beralihlah ke iTunes store. Lihatlah pada sisi kanan dari tampilan iTunes store tersebut, anda akan menemukan "Quick Links". Di sana anda akan menekan "Redeem".

Step 3. Masukkan kode yang telah anda buat sebelumnya ke kotak "Redeem Code", kemudian tekan "Redeem". Anda akan menemukan iTunes mengatakan kode anda isi telah kadarluarsa atau tidak dapat digunakan. Abaikan dan lanjutkan ke langkah berikutnya.

Step 4. Sekarang anda akan beralih ke logo rumah yang tertera di sebelah atas iTunes. Kemudian setelah kembali ke tampilan utama, tekan "Sign-in"

Step 5. Pilihlah untuk membuat akun baru.

Step 6. Kemudian isilah data yang dibutuhkan. Perhatikan di bagian bawah "Credit card", anda sekarang dapat memilih "none".

Step 7. Jika anda mengisi data pribadi anda dengan tepat, iTunes akan menampilkan "Congratulations". Anda sekarang sudah dapat mengambil album art maupun lagu-lagu gratisan iTunes tiap minggunya.

What really gets me with iTunes updates is the fact that iTunes these days is 56.4MB. For a program that is only supposed to catalogue your music library and let you transfer and synchronise that library with your iPod, it has just gotten way too big. Don't get me wrong, I love iTunes, I love that fact that once all your songs have the proper ID3 tags iTunes will be a breeze to use. What gets to me about iTunes is the size and the installation process. With such a large installation file, iTunes takes up to 10 minutes to install and also installs the latest version of the horrible and worthless QuickTime which also decides that it is important enough to start on my computers start up.

Then after wasting my time installing the latest iTunes and getting rid of the QuickTime start up I can easily run my iTunes again without seeing a single bit of difference between the new version and the old one. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Apple for making iTunes worse after every update. Really for a program that simply has to catalogue your music library 56.4MB is just way too big. Running right now on my computer playing a song iTunes is using 60MB, 60 god damn megabytes. Playing a high definition movie in Media Player Classic takes up around 42MB and that's decoding audio and video, iTunes is just playing a single MP3.

Well I guess that's Apple for you.

There is now an army of over 50 million iTunes Store customers, and iTunes has sold over four billion songs - with an incredible 20 million songs sold on Christmas Day 2007 alone. The ubiquitous service offers the world’s largest music catalogue of over six million songs from all of the major labels.

Last month Apple push ahead with its world domination plans by launching iTunes Movie Rentals, featuring movies from all of the major movie studios including 20th Century Fox, The Walt Disney Studios, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal Studios Home Entertainment, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), Lionsgate and New Line Cinema.

You can rent movies and watch them on your PC or Macs, most new iPods, iPhone and on an Apple TV. iTunes Movie Rentals will offer over 1000 titles by the end of this month, including over 100 titles in high definition video with 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound which you can rent directly from their widescreen TV using Apple TV.

Além da troca de arquivos de mídia entre computadores, o serviço doubleTwist permite aos usuários transferir arquivos de mídia existentes em seus computadores a aparelhos móveis, por meio de um sistema simples que envolve arrastar o arquivo para uma pasta que envia cópias dos arquivos pela Web aos aparelhos.

O software permite inicialmente a transferência de arquivos ao PSP, celulares série N da Nokia, às linhas Walkman e Cybershot de celulares da Sony Ericsson e para celulares inteligentes equipados com o sistema operacional Windows Mobile, como o Palm Treo e os modelos da HTC .

Os usuários poderão definir que arquivos de mídia desejam compartilhar com que amigos. O software da doubleTwist converte mídia armazenada em um dado formato a tipos de aquivos usados em outros aparelhos, o que torna possível criar listas de execução comuns que reproduziriam canções da iTunes em aparelhos que não sejam da Apple, de acordo com a empresa.

O truque utilizado pela doubleTwist para abrir os formatos protegidos contra cópia é executar uma canção em modo acelerado e capturar uma cópia da faixa de áudio, regravando-a. Trata-se essencialmente do mesmo processo usado na cópia de um CD para um computador.

"Os usuários só poderão executar a música que já tenham comprado e estejam autorizados a executar", disse Monique Farantzos, 34, co-fundadora e presidente-executiva da doubleTwist.

O sistema consegue converter cerca de 100 canções em meia hora. A doubleTwist estima que o truque resulte em cerca de cinco por cento de degradação na qualidade sonora, perda semelhante à registrada na duplicação de um CD. Amigos poderão ouvir as canções enviadas por usuários da doubleTwist mesmo que não tenham adquirido direitos de reprodução sobre elas, disse a empresa.

Representantes da doubleTwist afirmam que a empresa não está permitindo a troca desenfreada de aquivos. "O que nós estamos facilitando é amigos mandando coisas entre si", disse Farantzos.

A doubleTwist também revelou que recebeu investimento inicial da norueguesa NorthZone Ventures e da suíça Index Ventures, que foi uma apoiadora inicial de Skype, Last.fm e MySQL antes da venda dessas empresas a outras companhias maiores.

Aos 16 anos, na Noruega, Jon Johansen disparou controvérsia internacional quando publicou na Web o código para produção de softwares capazes de quebrar a proteção contra cópia de DVDs.

Agora com 24, Johansen, vice-presidente de tecnologia da doubleTwist, continua na linha de frente de tais controvérsias, entrando em brigas com Apple por causa de seus esforços para ajudar os consumidores a "libertarem" suas músicas do sistema de proteção contra cópias da iTunes.
